Recon Pocket PC 2003 -> Mobile 6 - General Questions and Answers

Could someone give me any idea how I could install Windows Mobile 6 for this handheld device: http://www.tdsway.com/products/recon ?
There is Pocket PC 2003 installed.

we only support HTC devices...
i suggest you contact the company and ask them if they have a rom for it

The manufacturer's website itself says "Sorry, No!"

It appears there were enough hardware changes to get it to run Mobile 5 that an upgrade is out. You can go from 5 to 6 but it is a chargable upgrade.
Seems your stuck with 2003.

Windows Vista and HTC Prophet Upgrading

I have been living with Windows Vista Beta 2 Build 5384 since June. This is an "evoluting version" that is upgraded/improved/corrected from time to time. All in all I should not have done that and stay with XP Pro but I was not sure how to unistall it. However, the Windows Mobile Sync function works well with my HTC prophet (Qtek S200) which is equipped with ROM 2.15.23.27 WME, 3/9/06, Radio version 02.19.21, Protocol version 4.1.13.09, ExtROM version 2.15.13.121. Last week, after a little research, I decide to upgrade with RUU_Prophet_2151327_22113102_022021_Dopod_PDAMobizEdition_v101 though I was not that sure that it was really an upgrade (I was looking for the Push-Email feature). In any event, the upgrade program did not work. I am stuck. It stopped regularly with a code error [202]: Th update utility (V2.5.2) could not connect to the PDA Phone. All comments are welcome
I can only speak for the Blue Angel on this - but I couldn't upgrade it using Vista because Activesync is used for the connection. However, in Vista, Activesync has been replaced and it cannot be installed on Vista. In the end, I got out a spare HDD, dropped it into my pc, installed XP FLP and upgraded using that instead.
RC1 of Vista (Build 5600) is now out to certain testers and I can confirm that Mobile Center is no longer present/doesn't work properly. This is also true of 5536 and 5552. The PDA will show up in Computer and you can browse it - but there was no utility to sync. Activesync can again, not be installed either.
Windows Mobile Device Center
With respect to the Sync function, I recall that the "Windows Mobile Device Center" that has replaced in Windows Vista the ActiveSync 4.1 of the past did not work until I triggered the firewall options. After it worked well though the Notes included in the Contacts (MC Outlook) are not synchronised correctly. Hence, my surprise for the impossibility to upgrade s explained above.

SSL and Windows Mobile.

Does anyone know if having Hard SSL will cause problems if I use the HTC ROM update to go back from Windows Mobile 6 to Mobile 5?

Windows Mobile 6 Second Edition coming soon but what phones will be upgradeable to it

The answer is:
* AT&T Tilt (and other HTC Kaiser phones obviously) !!!!!!
* AT&T Blackjack II
How do we know it? Because Microsoft hints at it HERE by saying:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/mobiledevicemanager/default.mspx
Find the phones
Currently, the following devices will receive a software update that allows them to work with System Center Mobile Device Manager:
* AT&T Tilt
* AT&T Blackjack II
And more devices to come
While having ability to support "System Center Mobile Device Manager" is not the same as "Windows Mobile upgrade in all areas", at Mobius 2007 event Microsoft has announced that next major upgrade (updated?) to Windows Mobile is coming Q1 2008 what is exactly the same (or similar) time that this one mentioned by Microsoft HERE as a release date of devices and upgrades with support for this device manager.
In other words: Microsoft together with new Windows Mobile 6 with support for device manager server product, will roll out new improvements and features also in area of user interface! The possible version name for this upgrade will be Windows Mobile 6.1 or Windows Mobile 6 Second Edition but for sure it is not yet Windows Mobile 7 (code name "Photon") because it looks like Photon has been postponed till 2009 as commercial release date (it may go to manufacturers by the end of 2008).

If Microsoft is using the Kaiser for their internal WM6 development, we can always hope that they have some constructive critisism to pass back to HTC regarding the current inefficient device drivers driving the MSM 7200 hardware.

Upgrading my O2 Xda Mini S from Windows Mobile 5

I have an O2 Xda Mini S, running Windows Mobile 5.
I would like to upgrade the O/S to 6.5, without disrupting my phone's ability to make calls and without deleting my address/phone# book.
As I understand it, it is technically impossible to upgrade from 5 to 6.5 directly, but it is possibly to do so incrementally, from 5 to 6.0, from 6.0 to 6.1, and finally from 6.1 to 6.5.
Could someone here guide me through how I do this? Indeed, from where do I get the upgrades? I've looked for guidance on the O2 website, and found absolutely nothing!
Alternatively, would it be possible/sensible to install a Linux-based O/S to replace Windows Mobile completely?
