I used Audacity(at first) because I can trim any song in my existing library and still change the pitch and bitrate to make it louder. I hardly use custom ringtones now, but I tried the MP3 Trimmer .cab and that worked great.
ok i actually found a decent program to use but now my problem is that the volume that comes out of the phone is so low you can barely even hear it. any suggestions as to how to fix that?
Though I didn't make them from scratch, I "embraced and extended" some existing tones. Check the notifications section on my site which is in my sig.

Hi all,
I've been checking this forum for a week or so now and the only thing I cant seem to find info on is...
What benefits do you get if you upgrade your Magician to the latest rom?
Does it get rid of the camera speckles and snow? Or do I still need to download that camera fix?
Does it enable me to use MP3s as ringtones? Or do I again need to download another file?
What other features do I get from upgrading? If any?
Thanks for your time.
Mr. E you can use MP3 as ringtones on all ROMS even if you have the very oldest, 1.01. Just copy the Mp3 file to the /Windows/Rings folder.
I did that but it didnt do anything. Is there some sort of special way of selecting the file for a ringtone?
Easy way to set mp3 as ringtone:
By the way, if you have no issues with your existing rom and you're happy with all aspects of your phone and it's running stable, then don't bother upgrading.
Sweet that looks like what I need.
As for the camera... I guess just download the camera fix.
From what your saying Jimmy-bish the rom updates dont give you anything worthwhile then?
If you have 1.11 or earlier rom, U may encounter the famous "bluetooth not found" problem. Is it worthwhile enough?
Yeah, sometimes it comes down to the individual phone. Heaps of people complained about that bluetooth and GPRS issue with 1.11 rom. I had it once, so I kept the same rom as I had no problems with that and just upgraded the radio to 1.13. Problem solved.
If you notice bugs or errors on your phone, search the forums and if everyone says it's the rom version that's causing the problem then upgrade. If you aren't experiencing any problems and can't be bothered upgrading all the time, you aren't missing too much. Most of the time it's just bug fixes and slight improvements, which can often be found through the forum without having to upgrade (camera patches and improvements, extended rom applications etc).

Install the snowfix file and this will change all the relevant setting to do away with the speckles etc. Can't remember where I found this so can't give authors name.
Jim
I did download the new camera from here... not the snowfix. The camera didnt seem to change anything tho, so im guess I need this snowfix too?
Problem with me is that I always want to have the latest update... so more than likely I will install the new update onto my Magician anyways...
I put that MP3 ringtone fix on, thanks heaps for that. Is there anyway of using a MP3 when you get a SMS?
Snowfix is just a case of turning down sharpness and saturation etc, i think.
V
Question, anyone know how to make the MP3 ringtones louder? With my phone volume right up its still kinda quiet, if I play it through the Media Player it sounds at the same volume until I turn the media player volume up to 100%... thats about how loud I would like it.
Is it possible without having to up the volume on a PC based app?

That is exactly what it is, but its still better then the standard camera settings.
Does that phone alarm allow you to use MP3s as your SMS tone?
Mr E, yes it does!
Now I have seen somewhere, that someone had the same problem as I am having and that was the SD card is coming up as 128mg but its actually 256mg... someone had some sort of format program for the SD card... anyone have that? As my PC wants to format it as 128 when it clearly says on the card that its 256...
btw: you can use mp3 as rings without any other prog. just associate mp3-files with mediaplayer, copy desired file to windows/rings and choose it in the normal ringtone dialog. the built in volume slider (telephone one, not loudspeaker one) works for me, too.
I was wondering if anyone knew which song the ringtone "Bella" is from. Everyone with a Fuze/TP should have it. I use it as my ringtone, was just wondering if its from a song or something longer! thanks.
I haven't gotten my Fuze yet, so I don't exactly know what the tune of it is.
But I did find something on youtube that might be ringtone worthy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCpolTnNLAk&feature=related
lemme know if that's it (it's spanish)
hmmm. 100% sure it isnt that lol. thanks though. its a really nice riff would love to get more info on it. tried MusicID, that didnt work =[
just wanted to know how to make the phone play longer mp3 ringtones without really having to flash a new rom.....thanks
never mind....i am an idiot hahaha....i found a cab
Guys, I have a buddy of mine with an HTC HD7 and some version of windows on it. He asked me if I can find out WHERE to get FREE ringtones that he can download through the phone?
I have no idea and wasn't sure if I posted it in the right section.
THanks
George
atleast you can convert your mp3 to wma 48kb by using converter.thats what i do
??????????????
You cannot set custom ringtones if it's a Windows Phone 7. As for yet, that is. Recent Mango update promises to add this feature.
We are going back in time
Eventually, WP7 will be able to do most the things that WM6.x did.
Friggin' incredible. He says he can download them but has to subscribe to something. Doesn't that mean you CAN or you were talking about not doing it for free?
THanks
George
You need to Dev Unlock your device & you can use Chevron WP7 Custom Ringtone Manager to make custom ringtones.
Thanks. So bottom line is, right now, you CAN NOT get any ringtones other than what come with the phone?
If I get that manager, are there any places where he can download ringtones for FREE or do you have to actually MAKE your own?
Thanks again
George
Well I just updated on my HTC trophy and it is very good, only feature I cant figure out is custom ringtones. at the top of the list of the ringtones it says "windows phone". This wasn't there before, which makes me think they must have implemented the custom rings, but I cant figure out how to get them. Apparently you create them on zune on your PC?
Any ideas, thanks guys

Search, there's already 2 threads on this....
can someone help? i did a search and found nothing regarding adding custom ringtones to the Mango BETA version.
is it possible?
I understand that the official release, will require zune, to edit ringtones, and upload them.
Checking if you can do it on the Beta.
create a ringtone on your desktop with zune at the genre field you must choose ringtone than sync...
rules for the ringtones
<1MB
mp3,wma
29 sek length
u can find this many times in this forum u lazybone ....
text tone?

Custom Ringtones
1. Copy MP3 or WMA to Zune Collection. Choose Edit, and type in manually under Genre "Ringtone". The song must be less than 40 seconds and smaller than 1MB.
2. Go to Settings -> Ringtones + Sounds, tap Ringtone. Your custom ringtone will appear under a new tree called "Custom", above "Windows Phone"
Note that it is identified by the filename, rather than the track title.
Also, you can tap and HOLD a ringtone, and Delete will be offered (but only on the Custom ones; preloaded ones grey out delete).

Wow! I figured it out after a couple of hours but this sucks for the average user. Microsoft is making stuff harder for the normal folks, not good for sales.

this will likely change until release. for the average user ringtones is one of the highest priorities - just go to the ATT WP7 forums
does ChevronWP7 RingtoneInstaller works on mango?if yes, why dont use it?
wish to the chinese vision。。。。。。。。。
With Mango, a new dir "Ringtones" was created in "My Documents" and the ringtones (for example My_ringtone_custom.wma) synch with Zune are renamed as e6.wma in this dir !
Maybe HTC users can upload a ringtone in this dir with touchxplorer or Windows Phone Device Manager and it's work ? ...
MicroSoft have left custom ringtones mainly up to the developer with Mango. The API is there, but wont be directly implemented into the OS. But you will see a hammering of Ringtone related apps on the market.
