I have a jar of a game I installed and when I run it the game uses a quarter of the scren and the rest of the screen is white.
I beleive this game is in a lower resolution.
Is there a way I can make it use all the screen so it's actually playable?
You can try s60jarresize to resize jar files. I don't remember any links now but you can do a search on google.
hi
the game you have on there is for a smaller screen phone so try downlading java games for phones the round about same size sceen as your phone. i find that easier
I tried looking for a version that's the size of my phone, but I couldn't find one. Can s60jarresize increase it to 480x640?

It pixel doubles on my Universl. I know I could use ilaunch or pocketplus, but claunch works well, and has quite a low overhead compared to these, but I hate the pixelated icons on a VGA display
Can't find anything on doing this after hunting around a bit, but I assume this was covered with either a yes or no quite a while back considering the age of the app and how long VGA displays have been out.
Ah, I found this http://park6.wakwak.com/cgi-bin/sbo...B3%AB%A5%A2%A5%D7%A5%EA%2FcLaunch%B2%FE%C2%A4
Can't read a damn thing on there, but I did guess at copying the dll file into the Windows folder.
Works in high res now, but still doesn't render the icons very nicely.
32 pixels are about the normal size compared to PocketPlus icons, but doubling to 64 only increases the box size, not the icon size. Trying anything other than multiples gives you the horrible pixelated icons again.
Getting there though....
Try this:
Get resource hacker and add a resource to the DLL.
Resource type should be "CEUX".
Resource name "HI_RES_AWARE"
and content 01 00 (hex, not that it matters)
This will turn off pixel doubling for the app. Whether this will help or make things worth (display everything 1/4 size) I don't know.
Worth a shot, just make sure to keep a copy of the original file, just in case.
I'll give that a go tonight thanks
For now I am experimenting with Device State to display my memory, and battery, and using it's own task manager, but claunch with small icons under that for the launcher with some tabs.
I could probably get away with using it for a launcher AND task manager since there's only really 5 or 6 apps I would use a lot, the rest could live on the start menu, and then I could free up some more resources.
I think I need to sit down and play with a few things out there, because having used PocketPlus for a very long time now, I am bored with the interface, and new devices don't feel new, because I end up using the same old apps every time.
OK after 4 hard resets, I think it's safe to say Device Status stops my system soft reseting, and it just hangs on the splash screen.
I hard reset, and installed claunch and the vga patch, worked, installed Device Status, and it hung. Hard reset and just installed Device Status, and it's hung again.
Need something else nice to display my memory, battery, and a task manager.
I don't want to use vbar or magic button. I like HTC X button, but that doesn't display running apps.
The close button on PocketPlus is the one I like best, or something like Wisbar Advanced or Magic button that display icons on the start bar.
I was wondering what happens to the appearance and functionality of programs that were programed for QVGA screens when used on PDA Phones that have a different resolution. Does the device simply expand the program to fill the screen or display a small window with black bars around it or does the program simply fail to start? I'm looking at the Xperia later this year (if the price isn't too high) and I'm wondering if I will be able to use the programs I'm currently using. Thanks.
Hi,
I'm trying to make a game using OpenGL ES, but came across a problem.
When using textures on my 3d shapes in the emulator everything works fine. The scene displays the way it is suppose to display.
But when I run it using my G1 phone I get blank shapes without any texture. This also happens to all the official and professional example textured Cube Demos and stuff.
http://www.pragprog.com/titles/eband/source_code
When I downloaded that app in the zip from above I saw a 2d textured cube on the Android Emulator, but when I used my phone to test the app all I saw was a 3d spinning white cube without any texture.
If anyone can check their G1 phone to see if this is also happening to them it'd be great.
Does anyone else have this happen to them? I searched for hours but cannot find 1 question regarding this issue. I don't know if it's just my phone, a glitch or perhaps the phone can't handle texture mapping or something.
I really am confused here and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
TariqM
Confirmed
TariqM,
I just experienced the same thing on my phone. Textures may be something that the G-1 doesn't support, but this is just my initial hunch.
I can't quite remember the exact solution, but I found out that my textures were not size correctly.
Read the OpenGL ES specification at:
http://www.khronos.org/registry/gles/specs/1.1/es_full_spec.1.1.12.pdf
page 74
It has to be of a 2^n value for width and 2^m for height.
For example 64 by 64.
There might also be a minimum and maximum value that the width and height can be. Don't quite remember.
I changed my image and it worked .
This was a while ago for me, so I hope this was the solution.

Hi guys,
So I was hunting around to figure out what the wallpaper size is for the Nexus One... most people seem to state it is 960x800, or 2 times wider than the standard 480 resolution.
I did a test to see how it would look on the device by creating a 960x800 image with red vertical lines every 192 pixels (which will divide it horizontally 5 times to match with the 5 home screens on the N1). Much to my dismay, it actually renders it differently (showing almost 3 of the 192px blocks on the center screen).
When swiping back and forth, it seems like there is some sort of parallax scrolling going on. You can see a full screen of apps/widgets (480px wide) scroll to the side, but you will see the background move some other amount of pixels. It's almost as though the background is scaled in some fashion horizontally. I was assuming it would somehow work like the home screens on the N900, where each screen has 1 block of 800x480 wallpaper space...
Anyone have some insight into what is going on here?

I'm not exactly sure what resolution the backgrounds are, but the "parallax scrolling" has been used in Android since the G1.
If you pick an off-sized background, the OS will tell you to crop it, and the height width ratio is almost square. Anyway, each panel of the home screen will share a bit of the background with the adjacent home screens.
Yup, each homscreens background overlaps with the ones on either side of it.
I believe the correct resolution for the N1 is 960x854
The resolution should be 960x800, because the Nexus is not the droid, it's 800 pixels not 854.
And for there to be 5 home screens on 960 wide, it's only going to scroll 1/5th of the image on each home screen. The parallax scrolling is a cool feature.
Of course it's going to show almost 3 of the 192px blocks on the center screen, because the center screen is 480px wide.
960x800 is correct. Additionally, you could've sorted this quickly by pulling the Launcher2.apk from /system/app, then extracting it and checking the size of the default wallpapers.
So here is another question. Does anyone think its possible to change the scrolling of the background (and size) such that it would be 1 480x800 size block PER home screen?

When I had my g1 the Photoshop app would set wallpapers without asking for cropping even 480x800 so I would use iPhone wallpapers cause we allow know most Mac useres are have some skill in graphics design. Anywho when I tried to use this work around on my nexus it did not work, I'm looking further into this!

Came across this. I want to disable scrolling on the background wallpaper too and have a static image. Any updates?
Wallpaper Set & Save is a basic free app from the market that works wonders with hi-res and off-sized images...
Me too
Also having issues with this
Only using one homescreen...and the settings either zooms or stretches the HOMEMADE wallpapers

Yes, you absolutely need this app if you want to change your wallpaper, the built-in gallery just doesn't work.
Wallpaper Set & Save
downloaded, tried...no luck
Yea, it didnt work for me either. I formated some images to 480x800, but it just zooms in on them. Cant believe something so damn simple is so tough.
Guys, I found a solution. It is called Wallpaper Plus. Yes it is $1.99, but it is worth it. Not only can you do 1 static image with no scrolling, it will also let you pick images and "sew them together such that each screen is a different image! So right now I have 5 pictures that I choose, that the program formatted for the size of my screen and stitched together. Now when I scroll through my screens, I see a different image on each one, rather than one large image. But like I said, it can do just one static image as well! I highly recommend. I know the cost sucks, but at some time we need to support these developers making the things we want for our phones if they are gonna stay on the platform and develop more things!
Hello! I've been reading around these forums for awhile, since i got my kindle for Christmas, and the information and support I've gotten from here has been astoundingly extensive, but now i need help with something specific.
I've gotten PSX4DROID working on my barebonesCM7 build but the virtual keypad displayed onscreen is too small for me to operate comfortably. Is there a way for me to change some settings in the programs code to, say, add another sizing option? One twice as large, but following the same emulation and placement parameters, and without breaking the program?
Actually all the buttons on my kindle are too small as I'm very big and tall, and have large fingers. I'd like to be able to do the equivalent of decreasing my screen resolution, or just increase the buttons real estate on screen in any way possible. but my main question is still whether or not i can do it to an apk at all, since i'll need that information in the future for other onscreen key generating programs.
Thanks in advance, guys! Seriously, this site is the best!
You could try reducing the screen DPI that might make them bigger.
