Battery Problem Soulotion (no fat phone) - G1 Android Development

heres an idea ive thought of to help battery life and keep your phone nice and slim.
it really comes from this concept here ...
http://www.instructables.com/id/MintyBoost!---Small-battery-powered-USB-charger/
but my idea is to get another replacement g1 battery and put it in the g1 sock, so then the sock would become a source of power for the g1. this means while it sits in your pocket it would be getting extra juice from another battery and when you take it out its just your normal g1
the only thing is i couldnt firgure out the electronics to make it work so help would be needed to make this concept work
i've added a pic (very badly done) to give an idea of what i mean

okay. so i overclocked my wizzy to 312 right... for the past few days it was doing good.. but today.. i noticed that it wouldnt automatically turn off even though i had the timers set... then i noticed that the ilauncher battery indicator was blank.. then i noticed the battery status indicator said -1%... i soft reset, hard reset, uninstalled and everything i could... ok.. so now here i am.. no clue where my battery is at... my device is now stock.. meaning nothing installed but battery status... and im not overclocking. any ideas on how to get 'er back to normal?
try draining the battery completely, til your wizard dies, then recharge it. This will 'cycle' the battery. You may have to perform this procedure a few times.
I had a Wizard for a bit (it was the T-Mo US MDA G4 variant). I recall that whenever I tried overclocking beyond 240MHz it would be OK for quite a bit then always ended in a horrible freeze up! I darn near bricked the device... Actually, I really thought it was completely done for one time! I believe I managed to get out of that particular hole by putting it into bootloader mode (can't remember the key combo to do it but I am certain it is in the XDA-dev wiki) then reflashing the ROM. There are a couple of different special programmer modes that special key combos can put it in, and I remember somehow trying them and managing to jog it into life just enough to reflash with the stock ROM. Thankfully, that saved the device (but not my data) but it was a close one!
I can quite understand you wanting overclock to the max. Yep. there are many warnings not to overclock too high or one risks frying the Wizard... I ignored them too! The Wizard is a nice device but the 200MHz processor is a little bit of a weak point (makes for good battery life though, which I am sure was the intention) Best of luck. Hopefully you can get up and running again. Assuming you do (fingers crossed) I suggest trying to live with 240MHz and if that really doesn't cut it for you, maybe start saving those pennies for your next phone!
The battery drain-out suggestion posted sounds good too... whatever can get you up and running is good at this point!
Sorry to bump the thread, just thought of something else. I can't recall if the Wizard has a reserve power battery hidden away inside it, but for what it's worth... another time I had a device where the screen stopped resonding completely and hard resets did not help. Looked like it was warranty service time for sure. Then I tried taking the battery out and leaving it out overnight, then putting it back and doing a hard reset. Hey presto, screen worked, no service required.
The battery cycling suggestion is basically the same idea, I am just adding it may be worth leaving it completely drained and without power for a few hours before recharging so that any charge stored in the device can completely clear. Once again... good luck!
I had the same problem. Just to see if it's exacly the same check if there is info about radio when wizard is starting (gsm ....). If not just flash your wizard with radio (in my case only 1.31 worked).

nope.. i missed no warnings... i heard every single one.. but there were mixes of stories of some who had success at 312 and i felt i might be one of the chosen.... apparently not.. so i'm at work now. the battery died completely last night on me.. and none of my charging options at home worked (USB plugged into the computer).. i got the orange light for a minute or two... then it went out compltely.. haven't seen the boot screen since last night.. so now i'm at work with my charger going to work on the batter.. it's been about 20 mins and still no light.. if not.. i'll call cingular with a "warranty request". *smiles*

Reminds me of a "friend" (not me) of a "friend" (not me) who had a Wizard (not mine) and attempted to do an antenna boost thingy (not mine/I wouldn't) and totally botched it (I'd never even try that) then stuck it back together with some glue (despicable/I was shocked!) and returned it to the store.
I hope I made it clear this was a friend of my friend and absoutely was not me? Oh, and I tried to stop them! ...yeah, that's how it was....

Did you tried the "pull out the batttery before pluging in the charger and after a few seconds inserting the battey" thing ?

Yeah, that's the ticket!!! LMAO!!!
i feel so horribly guilty.. i'm so sorry. i promise.. after this time i'll never do it again.. we swears it.. on.. on.. The Precious!! yeah.. i got my replacement today.. problem is... STILL NOT WORKING.. i feel like a fool.. the whole time it was the battery and not the phone.. so now i'm faced with a delima.. now i can go and try to get my battery replaced which the local stores say they don't have.. so i'd have to take a long hike to the local exchange spot. i'm going to send the phone back though.. since it's the battery.. but a valuable lesson has been learned.. i'm going back to wm5 and relocking the phone.. having the new roms is great... but if something goes wrong.. i'd like to have my support.
Well, in a way that is good news it turned out to be the battery, apart the fact that getting your hands on another one sounds like at least a mild nuisance.
I am stating the obvious here, and I am sure your have already mulled this over. It sounds like the Wizard isn't really meeting your needs. I choose to have a large contacts database and other stuff on my phone. In combination with the 200MHz CPU, the Wizard wasn't really the right device for me. I am not criticizing the Wizard, just saying it wan't right for me.
An upgrade to the Hermes or somthing similar might be a good bet. But I know it's all more cash... and quite a bit of it too! Again, this is obvious stuff and I am sure you have considered this already.
For what it is worth I would do much the same in your situation. I'd consider this a close call and stick with the stock ROM for a bit, at least while I thought over my options and made sure everything is definitely OK with a new battery.
Best of luck

There are lots of threads on how to fix the "dead" battery issue...
--M
remedied... got my hands on another battery.. you guys are great. thanks for all the advice.. i'm actually considering the 8525.(it's been on my mind) but that extra cash... i don't know.. the wife and i are considering another little one.. soooo.. perhaps. Thanks again everyone!
Best of luck if you go for another little one. Kids are totally great and much more important that any phone! Now let me see what I would do with my hard earned cash, give even more money to Cingular or spend it on my family hmmmm.... I'd give it to Cingular. NOT!
The way I personally see it is your Wizard is a great phone and, hey, we all know that give it just a bit longer there is gonna be some another device out we all want instead of a Hermes/8525 or whatever takes our personal fancy! That is just how it is for us gadget freaks! Post-poning an upgrade for as long as one can stand it is often a win-win really!
Maybe you are right to keep you Wiz more to stock specs and get the support and make it last out for a bit. I know the overclock wasn't the problem after all, but I would imagine that cranking it high might at least shorten its life. Personally I think I would at least roll back on that one. 312 was pretty darn speedy! (Impressive, but gosh, that is seriously turbo!)
I spent bunch of cash on my Trinity and have just hopped to Cingy to get the 3G. But to be honest, I don't even pick up the 3G in lots of places yet. I really like the phone and everything. But was it really worth the money...?Truthfully? No. It was an absurd purchase. I just decided not to think about that and buy it anyway!
Anyhow, good luck with everything all round

Nice idea but this is nothing like the Pandoras battery, the battery doesn't fix the psp it puts it in service mode by flashing an incompatible serial number. This in turn allows the psp to re do the firmware from a memory card.
Sounds like you have an intermittent hardware fault. HTC phones come with a user accessible recovery mode unlike the psp that has to have it locked out for secuirty/flashing purposes...
shame on u for making ur father go to tmo just because ur logic didnt let u try the same battery change trick the 2nd time witch worked once ....
It might be more time. I bricked my prophet, couldn't get it into the boot loader or anything but only have the one battery.
Taking the battery out and putting it back in straight away didn't fix it but after I'd left it in a drawer for a few days whilst I was thinking about how to fix it I could then boot it into the firmware flash tri-colour screen.
Might be some capacitors that need to discharge or something, so leaving the battery off for a little while will do it, switching batteries may have the same effect but I think it's more to do with the time you left it and then switched batteries.

and the 2000 (cept for the last set of black ones)
Interesting theory either way
After kicking myself in the leg for bricking my phone I was willing to try anything. I made an attempt at this to no avail. It was worth a shot though.

Emergency battery app, request

Hi, let me explain what i mean. Recently i had some bad luck (which i won't discuss). I needed to make a phone call but when i looked at my phone, the battery was drained out and there was no one around me in a couple of miles.
Would it be possible to make an app which would turn off the phone at let's say 7-10% of left over battery (making it act like it's down to 0%) so that the last couple of % could be used in emergencies. You would have found a shut down phone but you could still turn it on and you would have let's say 7% left over to help in your emergency.
I think this kind of app would be useful, it's a black scenario but wouldn't you hate to be in a really bad situation and your battery just went dead?
I have no knowledge on how to make such an app, so this is a request, if it's even possible...thanks
this is a great idea for an app... i'd like to see it give you the option of what % to shut down at as for almost anything i'd need to do 2% would be fine... I really hope someone picks this up
thanks for the support, i am also hoping...
good idea
but wat i suggest u is to turn off ur phone when it reaches 5 percent n use tht only in cases of emergency...
der is a application out in market which speaks out wen ur battery level reaches 5 percent
turn off then
that's not really a good option and complicates things, i'd have to always monitor the % and sometimes you just don't notice/hear the 5% battery warnings, sometimes you're not in the position to be able to mess with your phone, like work etc...
yea i understand...
hmmm hope some one comes up with tht application
Well using Tasker, you can make battery level one of the conditions for an action. I had a quick look through the actions but I couldn't find the shutdown command. Actually, there is a run script button. You could probably write a script to make the phone shut down.
That's a clever idea. I suppose to achieve a similar result you could use SetCPU as well as Tasker to work in tandem to reserve a bit of an "emergency charge". If I could code better I'd create an app like this. Perhaps now that the seasons are changing in North America I should start learning to code for Android.
Hoping that for the interim someone would develop an app like this though. I'd definitely use it! I hate when I'm in a pinch and my battery is dead... happens rarely, but seems to happen at the worst times!
it would seem so indeed

that's a good idea, a script (as far as i'm familiar with it) should only be a couple of lines at best, still hoping someone would come along who knows to code this stuff
my X10 usually turns off at 15% automatically and i cant figure out why! its so annoying though i would not recommend an app like this in my opinion, theres nothing worse than when your waiting for an important call or text and youve been working away at work (im a joiner so i dont have my phone out unless theres a valid reason) and you wonder why your call/text hasnt came through..ohh the phone died on 15% and you find the text came through 2 hours ago, very very annoying haha!
I always have a spare battery with me in a protected pouch on my belt. It's very slim so you cant notice it there and is not a problem.
For me that makes life a whole lot easier
you're right on that one, but lots of us don't have a spare battery

with this kind of app you could always turn the phone back on and use the remaining % of battery, or stop the shut down for that matter...i don't see it as a problem

Horrible battery life after washing cell phone

My gf washed my phone. It had like 7% or less when it went into wash. Full cycle.
I took battery out, put in rice for like 2 days, then I put it in warm place, on dash of car in sun for 20 minutes at a time in between delivering pizzas, ect....
I throw away the battery, and I use one of my back-up HD2 batteries. I use the external charger to charge it.
I boot it up, and it works! Touch screen, buttons, internet, speaker, camera! EVERYTHING. The screen after 2 days even looks perfect. No discoloration.
One issue.....
Battery drain. It loses like 1-2% battery per minute, even in airplane mode and screen is off. It won't last more than 40 minutes with moderate to low usage.
I plugged it into USB via my pc when it was at 15%. An hour passes, and now it's 3%. I confirm that it is plugged in, and the "charging" animation happens.
It's not the battery, because it's brand new.
What is the issue? Is it a short? Can I fix this? The phone is 100% working condition except for the horrible battery life.
I appreciate anyone's insight into this issue....
I had a similar issue on an older HTC Elf way back in the WM6.1 days(... lol 'way back').
I hope you have insurance and a friend who can sell it that it's not your fault to get you a new phone for free cause this is probably damaged some component inside the phone. Fixing it your self is pretty much impossible since it's not encouraged at all (there is very little support resources) and the manufacturer isn't just going to sell you parts to fix your phone.
If you don't have insurance I wish you the best of luck anyways.
(However I hope I'm wrong about all this, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. :\ )

Yeah....no insurance unfortunately...
I know the phone is going for $295 shipped NEW on ebay at the moment, but still...
I don't know if I want a new HD2 or if I should just wait a month or two until the Samsung Hercules comes out.....
You are lucky that your phone is working....it seems there is some short on the board...which is difficult to repair as most of these have 7 layers PCBs....sell it off and get a new one..
nice that it still works.. sounds like a short though if your battery is getting drained.. tough stuff is even if you dry it completely the water leaves residue on the circuitry. even if you get rid of the battery draining, the circuitry is more vulnerable to further damaging all on its own

[Q] Nexus 4 LG model battery replacement london service

Dear friends,
my nexus 4 is 1 1/2 years old now. while its a great phone the battery now dies too fast. its hardly few hours. always remembering charging is an issue. also the extra portable power has to be used so much frequently.
Its now out of warranty. as one year has passed. i cannot for sure change battery myself. Pls let me know is there any service repair center in your experience where i can get this battery replaced for nexus 4.
I am based out of london and if its in london the better.
kindly advice thank you
I have seen that you can replace the battery yourself if you are careful enough, there are tutorials with step-by-step pictures.. As for the battery, an Optimus G battery will also work, but you must make sure the battery is authentic; I have read that there are lots of counterfeit ones offered online.

hello
I replaced my n4 battery last week with a battery claiming to be genuine from ebay uk.
it was quite easy the tricky part is the adhesive holding the battery down its pretty strong stuff.
When I bought the battery I didn't know if it actually was genuine or not, but after fitting it it appears to work as I remember my n4 working when I first had it.
I would recommend you do it yourself one other thing if the phone has never been opened, the clips for the rear half of the case are difficult to undo, so take care when prying open the back.

Hi,
I live in Holland and I want to buy the original battery.
How is it holding up?
Are you getting more SOT than before?
Thanks in advance!
Hey guys, I ran into some issues after replacing my battery. I bought this one, it look identical to the original I think.
After replacing it, my phone gets the red LED light if I try to hold Power to turn it on. The only way to turn it on is by entering fastboot mode (Power + Vol Down).
The phone would not reboot itself on software commands (ie. rebooting from recovery menu or "fastboot reboot"), the only way is to enter fastboot mode when the phone is off. Secondly, the battery icon does have the lightning charging sign, however the status said it's "Not charging". There is no green charging light. Right now the battery percentage is decreasing as I use the phone.
I am able to transfer files to the phone if I connect it to the computer, I have to assume it is charging even though the phone doesn't update the battery info. I am running fully factory stock firmware, Android 5.0.1.
I wonder if this is an issue with the battery, or if I need to completely drain it or some extra step I need to perform? Thanks.
Nevermind, it was a faulty battery and I'm getting an exchange. I guess they stored it for a so long.

I don't think it's the official one..
you can buy the original one here: http://www.spareslg.com/bateria-lg-e960-nexus-4-lg-optimus-g-e975-eac61898601.html
My N4's battery was starting to expand. I noticed it when the Qi orb charger stopped working and the glass was lifting up on the front left side. I did the replacement myself and it was not too hard. I would suggest watching the YouTube videos a few times over. As for tools, I borrowed the screwdrivers from my office, guitar pics and a hair dryer from my wife. As for how long it took, it was about an hour. You will need a lot of patience with opening the phone and prying out the old one. As for the battery, I figured I would get what I paid for, so I avoided the $10 ones on Amazon and Ebay as there were too many bad reviews there. I was able to buy a brand new (non OEM) one from Radio Shack online and ship it too the store down the street.

I can now get 24hrs up time with light use (stock 5.0.1).
My N4 works great, and he has 2 years old LOL.
Battery works great also :3
