Videos in HTC Album - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I've been going nuts trying to figure out why some videos just won't show up in HTC Album, but others encoded with the exact same settings (seemingly) will.
I usually use Handbrake to do my encodes. I start with the iphone preset, then change the quality setting to 600 kbps. If it's a widescreen video, I may use the cropping to crop the content to 4:3. I change the file type from m4v to mp4 because album never seem to want to see the m4vs at all (even though I could have sworn it's supposed to).
MOST videos show up just fine, but not all. For some of them, I'll see album try to recognize them the first time I navigate to that folder. It will create a space for the video for a moment, and try to get a preview thumbnail of the video to put in it. A moment later, it will fail, and remove that video from the list entirely.
Here's the really strange thing -- if I click on the space where the video is supposed to be, right when it first shows up (before it has a chance to scan it for a thumbnail and then remove it), it will open in the fullscreen player and play just fine. If I wait a moment longer, and hit it after it's tried to generate the preview but just before it's going to vanish, i get an error saying it can't play that sort of mp4 file.
I've been using newer roms that use the blackstone (or other) album and fullscreen player packages, but I tried installing the oem album and had the same thing happen.
These files play fine in mobile wmp, and they play fine in the fullscreen player if i can trick it into opening them -- so what's the problem?

Oh, one more detail -- I've seen the same thing with other encoders, including the one that's being developed in the blackstone forum (but now has vga as an option for us non-widescreen folks).

Is there a HTC Album that plays videos?

Hi guys I couldn't find a HTC Album working that plays videos. I've searched but no luck. Can somebody help me please? I'm on a tytn II
Thanks I appreciate it!
As far as I know, the HTC Albums just don't browse and play video files and I currently can't find any picture viewing programs that do so too. Maybe you can try posting in the Dev&Hack section requesting a picture viewer program that also browse video files, that may be interesting.
TCPMP can play picture files and Video files and audio files, can play internet radio, can browse pictures, aduio and video over home wifi network as well (if you have set it up). Give it a try. I have it set up as my default picture viewer. I also use S2V to view pictures (love it) but it does not show video's. TCPMP opens fast to view video's and pictures and displays really nicely with some viewing options as well.
htc album DOES play videos
look for htc album 2.0
its extracted from devices like opal, jade etc

Save in a different video format?

I absolutely hate that the phone saves video's in ".mp4" and have some weird sort of "amr" audio codec involved? I can view these video's just fine on the phone, but if I pull them over to my computer, they play without sound. I have tried VLC, Quicktime, WMP, etc.
Now, I can rename the file extension to ".3gp" and it plays without any problems in Quicktime. But if I try to play it in VLC with the pre-defined extension, it says it doesn't have "SAMR" support, and only plays the video. I Googled it, found out all the reasons why (proprietary), and why it wouldn't ever be supported in VLC.
But is there any way to change the format the phone saves it in? It would be nice to able to send these video's from your phone to a friend and know that they could view it just fine.
I looked in Settings under the Camera....and nada.
Thanks!

From the video camera screen, go to Menu/Advanced/Capture Format and change it to H.263.
You are correct about changing the .mp4 extension to .3gp to allow it to play in Quicktime. But you should be able to play H.263 files on your computer without any changes.
I left mine in .mp4 and just downloaded the Klite codec pack, which lets you play .mp4 videos in classic win media on your laptop/PC. Works well on my laptop. Just make sure you choose custom install and deselect all the video options except for mp4 format. Otherwise it will conflict with other existing codecs such as divx.

Absolutely agree with Klite. All the time I install Windows,I don't use anything else than Klite codec pack in combination with very old(but really rocking) player ViPlay on all PCs/Ntbs in my surround. I can play almost everything without any problem.

Thank you, that worked. I had to actually make sure I was in video mode FIRST, then go to settings and the option to change the format was there.
Thank you!
And to others, I'm not complaining about not being able to watch the video on my own soo much...but I'd like to know that I could send the video out to friends and have a higher success rate in them being able to play the video.

Videoplayer for leo?

Windows media didnt work to play a few basic movie files so I was wondering if there is any FREE way to watch videos? I see people recommending coreplayer but it costs money which suck.
Only other player am aware of is TCPMP, it does the job. Although i hate the user interface, its same as it was when i used on my iPAQ.
try this for converting your videos on your computer, no need to fiddle about with settings. just add your file you want converting, put in your desired output directory and convert. i found it on here the other day tried it and it worked flawlessly, nice picture too, obviously if your more advanced than me you could maybe fiddle about to increase picture quality and stuff but if your looking for a quick fix to watch video on your phone this is the one for you. enjoy.

Videos don´t show up in in "Coverflow" anymore!?!

Hey guys, I hope someone of you can help me,
all of a sudden the videos I have on my storage card of the HD2 don´t show up in the album "photos & videos" anymore. It just shows the photos, the videos have "vanished"....but they still are on the storage card and they play just fine, but I have to manually go to the storage card folder they are in to play them, but i want them to be displayed in the "photos & videos" tab of htc hd2 sense.
Can anyone help me, this is really frustrating
switching on and off the hd2 doesn´t help either....
what have you installed or changed lately?
I converted a movie file with the videora htc hd2 converter http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/htc-hd2/ (note that I converted it to match the htc touch hd, because the htc hd2 is not listed as "mobile phone profile")
I once tried to sync it with windows media player, and already didn´t show up in the "photos & videos" tab. Second time I just drag & dropped the movie file onto the storage card into "storagecard/dcmi/100media/..." Both times I could play the movie out of the windows explorer on the hd2 but never showed up in the "photos & videos" tab....
I started to sort the files in the "100media" folder on the storage card by name, date etc because I thought that could have been the problem. Then I selected "show all files" in that "100media" folder.....nothing, so I reversed everything to its initial status like it was before I changed.
Now even the videos shot with the HD2 camera won´t show up, but they are there......
Oh sorry I forgot, I installed lately a custom taskbar, maybe that is the problem? but I deleted it now...
Some video files won't show up, but it largely depends on the format and encoding options. So just use the settings suggested in the HD2 video encoding thread and you're good to go!
yes ok thanks for the help, but it even doesn´t show its "own" videos, I mean the videos shot with the camera of the hd2....I don´t think that it has to do with video formats?.... I think that would be too simple....

Gonna try it myself, but none of my videos have ever been shown in coverflow(isn't this the music player btw?). I think what you're referring to is called "Album".
Edit: My own recorded videos do show up in the album so you've either got your storage location set to something other than the default folder or something is messed up in your manila files.

Xvid playback using built-in player

I did some searching, but all the posts appear to be older, and are discussing downloaded players. At work, we all have Droid Xs. My boss, recently reset his, and was working on downloading some video players. We download a lot of xvid files, and he wanted to be able to play them. Well, it appears one of his downloads has updated the built-in player to play xvid. The reason I think this is because after he dumped about 20 videos on there for transport, most...about 16 of them, had thumbnails in the gallery. I tried playing one, and loads directly up, and even has the little HDMI icon in the top corner. I went through the players he downloaded, and none of those appear to have the HDMI option. I've been trying to figure this out so that I can replicate it.
Has anyone else done this? I don't have the phone in front of me, but I know he got arcmedia and youplayer. I'm not sure what else, but I figure you guys may have some ideas.
I guess I've stumped the minds here. Thanks for looking.
UPDATE:
I just checked my phone, and now I'm able to playback one of the files. The strange part is that after seeing it happen on his phone, I copied the same file to mine, and couldn't play it. Gave the usual unsupported error. But today, I look at my phone, and there's a thumbnail of the video in the gallery. I click on it, and it starts playing, with the little HDMI option in the corner. WTF is going on here? I still have one file that won't play that I put on there. Does the built-in player support Xvid with certain options enabled/disabled?
