So is there anyway to get the G1 to work on PEAP networks?
My college campus uses this form of security and it doesnt appear that the G1 is equipped to work with it.
I've searched and found little to nothing on the subject
You're not searching hard enough.

i have been searching the internet for how to setup wifi on my new cingular 8525 and it was asking me about network key so please, HELP ME PEOPLE!!!
you have to supply your SSID (what your router is called or the router you want to connect to)
and then ´password if the connection is encrypted
Some questions to find out the answers to first.
1. What is the SSID of your router? Out-of-the-box routers are named things like "Linksys" and the like.
2. What kind of encryption is your router configured to use? This is why it is asking you for a key. Types that place nice with WM5:
WPA (good)
WEP128 (not so good)
WEP64 (not so good)
I have always had trouble getting WPA2 to work with all my pocket PCs. (WM3, WM5)
The nice thing about WPA is that you can use a regular pass-phrase for your password. With WEP, you are stuck using a 13 or 6(?) length string as your passphrase. Plus, WEP can be broken quite easily.
So, it sounds like you need to go back and configure your router, so you know what the SSID is, and what the passkey is.
Good luck.
Hi Guys!
Does anyone know of a way to get the Universal to log into a WPA II network with AES encryption?
Although many people claim that WM6 supports WPA II all I can chose in network settings is WPA (one) with TKIP.
Suggestions?
i hope someone can figure this out as all i use is wpa2 at work and around the house
Still searching myself
Ive had no luck yet all ive found is a commercial product from juniper that allows WPA2 connection but it has issues with wm6.1 worked with wm5 and wm6.
I havent given up thought still keep searching in hope
WPA2 is a hardware issue
i think WPA2 needs a special hardware encoder/decoder chip, so it will not work.
My VOX has stopped communicating to my router. This appears to have happened since I accidently deleted profile but that could be co-incidence..
It sees my network...
Settings VOX
Net type INTERNET
Auth WPA 2
AES
USE IEEE 802.1x YES
AEP type: Smart Card or certificate
Settings WAG200G nothing really relevent here except to say AES as above.
My phone seems to connect WITHOUT encryption but when I add encryption (with real simple password) this is where the phone can't connect for some reason... My laptop is still connected to the router without any problems there is no MAC filter or anything like that.
Anyone please help!
BTW tried hard reset not helped.
i have the exactly same problem. i tried other kinds of config on my router but nothing worked.without encripton or password it connects...
Not connecting to WIFI
Seems more people have this problem?
WPA2 does seem to be a problem. Personally I also use fixed IP, but never got my phone connected to my home network.
@work I use WEP and DHCP, no problem connecting.
@home I use, as mentioned, WPA2, AES, Fixed IP, router.
If anybody got a simple answer...?
btw, I got this problem after using other roms(for almost a year now). Basic HTC rom (WM 6.0 :-( ) seems to work fine.
Half connected in fact
Hi, I'm also getting a wifi problem after installing the RUU_Vox_HTC_FRA_1.34.406.1_4.1.13.54_03.10.90_Ship ROM (and thus resetting everything in the profile), but I wonder if it's really the same thing.
My phone connects to the wifi, gets an IP (both the phone and the router show the same IP attributed), but PIE and Outlook Pocket can not use the network. It's just like they couldn't see the network. But they don't use Edge either to connect, so they probably somehow try to send data to the network, but they fail.
Oh, and WEP encryption changes nothing. And I can't test with fully removing the encryption, as I use an internet box, not a standard router.
What I don't get is that I was browsing just fine on this ROM and the same config in my router I wish someone with more knowledge would spare a minute to help us out here or at least point us in the right direction
Solved
I upgraded the firmware on my router... :d thx
Okay folks got a bit of a strage development that I could use some help with.
As we all know, Android does not currently support Wifi proxy servers, at least it has no way to access the settings. I live on campus and the wifi is piped through a proxy server to the internet and I found the lack of wireless to be quite annoying (especially the hole it was burning in my pocket!)
Anyway, I had bought a wireless router to have internet all around my apartment. The network is hidden and my HTC Desire wasn't connecting to it. I eventually found out that this was because the network was braodcasting in mixed b/g/n mode. I changed it to b/g only and the phone connected.
I hadn't really expected it to connect to the internet because there was still no proxy set up but to my surprise it did! I checked my data counters and only the Wifi one was going up. The network my router is connected to uses the same proxy as the campus wireless so there is definately a proxy.
An even stranger development is the fact that since then, when I connect directly to the campus wireless network (not to my router) the internet still works. I keep checking the data counters and its not using up any 3G data. I checked my IP address online and it corresponds to the campus IP address. I also switched off the wifi and checked again and the IP changed to my cell provider.
I haven't tried connecting to a different wireless network since then and I didn't change any settings. I'm using an unrooted HTC Desire with stock ROMs. I had downloaded WifiAce but I since removed that and the proxy still works.
So what I'm wondering is, can anybody confirm this or give any thoughts on how this is working? Does anyone also know if the data counters available on the market acurately track data usage or do they simply assume that if the wifi is connected that the phone is downloading via wireless and not cell.
If anyone has any thoughts on this or could go out of their way to try and confirm it I'd be grateful.
(update) I found that it doesn't work on one of the networks, the oldest one on campus. Not sure why this is yet
You are correct. I found out this a long time ago. It also happens with some wireless MAC Laptops. You have to define the broadcasting channel.
Stupid Question, I'm Sure...

I wonder if you could explain what "defining the broadcasting channel" means...in case I occasion similar difficulties joining a public wifi network?
It's a dumb question, I'm sure...but I've never actually owned a router.
Between my dearly-departed, slightly hacked XV6800, followed by Tetherberry on my 9530...Wireless Tether on my CM7 Droid (only in a pinch) and the Clear Wireless dongle on my laptop (shared via Connectify), I think I'm missing several years of typical AP experience.
Hey guys, so here's another problem that has nothing to do with upgrading or using a custom rom, and it might be difficult for you to help me solve because it involves a French ISP but I might as well give it a shot as I'm desperate for a solution.
See, for some reason, even though when I'm at my uni accom I can connect to my router with a WPA key without any trouble whatsoever, when I'm at my mother's, the only thing that works is WEP, but it's only with my device. Thing is I don't wanna permanently switch her Internet box to WEP seeing as it's not very secure at all anymore. All the laptops and even my 3DS can connect without any problem. Any idea where this might come from?
