He/She keeps sending me text messages from the same number. I told that person to stop but he/she still insists in persisting.
I'm using AT&T, and AT&T gave me to choices: 1) Pay AT&T 15 dollars a month to block a number and 2) Change my phone number for FREE.
I have reasons not to change my phone number and I can not afford 15 dollars a month for phone calls.
Will any techniques work in stopping this harasser from harassing me?
Or does anyone know a good software (I'll freaking pay for it) that I can use to ****ing deny text messages from this person?
Sometimes I even get phone calls from that number. Also......sometimes he/she attempts to call me as "unknown".
Other than that... if he/she keeps harassing me. I have no choice but to publicize his/her number so I can ruin his/her life for trying to ruin mine.
Cant you complaint to police instead?
I have an idea; change your voicemail to YouMail instead of ATT, then setup a Ditch Caller greeting/action and ditch the call or have them hear the same message all the time.
Free and pretty simple. You just can't answer your calls blind and must have caller id working. If the caller gets wize and calls from a blocked number you can ditch or block those too.
SPB Phone Suite allows call filtering. It can direct numbers on your 'black list' straight to voicemail.
EDIT:
Someone on xda has made a freeware call firewall. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307178
I had this happening to me last year. The phone company (Orange at the time) were unhelpful so I responded to a text that if they did not stop I would contact the police. The offending text messages duly stopped.
The freeware call firewall sounds great. I´ve never had a problem like this but what can the police say or do?
My first thought was to spam him 10x back with some kind of automatic SMS sending service.

In the UK they can arrest the offender and caution them. If that fails then they are liable to prosecution.
A caution alone will flag up on a criminal records check - which is needed in the UK for some jobs - particularly working with children - which will will prevent you from being employed.
That's all assuming the police have the time or inclination to respond to your complaint.

What in the hell? AT&T actually forces you to pay $15 per month (in other words, as much as they charge for unlimited data) to block someone from harassing you? Aren't telecommunication companies supposed to help you or at least offer information to the police in cases of harassment and stalking?
Other people have offer good advice, but I'm going to have to agree with calling the police.

What do you think capitalism is?
Ok guys, I need to know how to extract the messages into text. I would like to upload the messages from my phone to show you what my problem is.
I used a great method, which did not involve sending the information to police, dealing with courts (which causes you to miss work), or paying extra fees for software or from protection from my wireless provider.
I simply recorded (or found on the internet) an audio clip of "*annoying sound bit*this number has been disconnected", I let it repeat twice like the phone companies do. I then placed that for my voicemail greeting.
There is plenty of free software available you can use to blacklist callers. So blacklist the callers phone number and use the disconnected greeting. It will work like a charm because it will go directly to your voicemail. Eventually the text and phone calls will stop.

What's with the snarky response? As I recall, 'capitalism' is a system in which the means of production is owned by individuals, and I don't think that inherently requires them to charge a high fee for absolutely everything. Of course, I also know that doesn't mean they won't do it if the consumer lets it.
You know, just forget it. I really don't care if AT&T charges $15 per month to block a number.
I offered a free, viable and immediate solution. So did others.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I've been thinking about filing a report the police station. And all the other advices are highly considered too. But of all else, there was nothing that was meant to be rude.
(Please don't be offended, as well. I am not for socialism)
For exporting your sms go to this link and download SMS Export, its a good free app http://www.smsexport.com/
if you export as text its readable.
And as for capitalism , huh, its just as bad as communism, socialism etc..., its just another lie for corporation control of the masses. So three cheers for who gives a f*ckism.

No, no, I wasn't upset about that. Whichever advice you chose is wholly your choice and I don't want to interfere. I just thought you might have been making a sarcastic critique about me believing AT&T wouldn't charge for such a thing.

Forgive me, it's the internet and it's hard to shape speech without true presence. Also, someone made a thread about the over-use of lol on the "Off-Topic" forum, which sort of caused me to refrain from adding a lol.
I am going to download the SMS export soon and show you guys the text (probably by October 1st).
Also, she has told me that she would stop once. She stopped for 1 week then suddenly spammed me again.
About 1-2 days ago she said she would stop again. But she claimed that she cried because of this. And she hasn't texted me so far.
One reason I don't want to file police report and take court action against this person is that if this is a real "teenager" girl as she claims to be, and that if she is from my perspective *insecure and need a friend* but also a real person, than I feel obligated not to hurt this person.
Also, if you guys are wondering, I think she got my number from a demo T-Mobile Touch Pro2 that I used to call my number. I forgot to purge the out-coming-call's list.

Here is a thread a friend recently posted, if you're familiar with spoofing or latest hackes and viruses to cell phones, your input would be appreciated.
It's Called "SPOOFING". And It's Driving Me Mad..
by ANONYMOUS on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 8:14am.
About four weeks ago, a call came through my cell phone--from a number I didn't recognize.
So, I let it go to voicemail. Once I got into my offices, I checked my VM, from my business phone.
The message was a very convincing voice automation. It sounded like a young, perky woman.
"HI! It's me! My number changed. Call me at XXXXXXX."
At that point, my Bureau ears went up.
I called the number. A middle aged male picked up.
I introduced myself and told him the situation. He responded, "Oh, no! It's happening again!"
It seems this man, who lived in Washington state, had been the victim of such calls in the past.
Now--his number was being used on these messages. I told him to kindly provide me with more information--
that way I could launch a formal investigation.
He hung up on me.
I don't blame him. He had every right to be cautious...
However, a few hours later--my old man calles me...PISSED.
"What in the HELL are you doing?!?"
In about an hour his phone was clogged with over 300 text messages.
From me. But I never touched my phone.
Then picture messages--FROM MY PHONE. OF MY KIDS!
Started rolling into his inbox. Still--my cell phone sat untouched upon my desk.
I alerted my Trade Practice Consultant. I contacted a totally bewildered--
and aggravating AT&T rep...from India. Whose only remedy was to not let
other people use my phone to send these phantom messages.
Really? <click>
That's me hanging up on your ass.
Later, my old man's mom started getting calls from "me".
Then texts.
So, I wiped my phone. Set it back to factory.
And mind you--this is a simple phone. And I HATE contracts.
It's just a pre-paid I picked up on sale at Best Buy.
Days pass. Nothing happens. I relax.
Then...my sister calls in a huff.
"How come you NEVER called me back! I was SO worried!"
Seems she was getting texts--from "me" at 2AM.
The texts said--This is Bev. You've got the wrong number. Text me at XXXXXX
Thinking something might be wrong--she texted the number. And waited.
And waited. Then tried to call. Nothing.
The really scary part? Bev is a family nickname.
It's how I was listed in HER phone.
The text used Bev. NOT Beverly.
Somehow--this virus or whatever can access your:
pictures, address book, text and call history.
I visited AT&T's location in Tyler. The manager was VERY helpful.
They gave me a free phone, airtime and set up a fresh account--with NO personal
info.
BUT. My info is still out there. My number is probably being used in messages
and texts. To what purpose? The FCC and FTC don't know.
Why do I warn you? Because, think how much info your smart phones can access.
Your email accounts. Your Facebook. Your banking information. Your LOCATION.
Recently Apple was called on its' iPhone tracking software--which they lamely denied saying,
"Apple has never done so and has no plans to ever do so."
However, the company iPhones DO keep "a database of Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers around your current locations... to help your iPhone rapidly and accurately calculate its location when requested."
Some of that location information is stored on each iPhone, and is backed up on iTunes, meaning that it would be possible for someone with access to a person's computer to retrieve information about their movements.
Your phone--with its' wireless access--means easy transmission of your personal
whereabouts and sensitive information.
And if these sophisticated scammers can crack multiple communications
platforms--they can make your phone a zombie.
Hungry for brains.
The tasty morsels and easy pickings of our interconnectedness.
How can you protect yourself?
So far, nobody has been able to tell me.
My phone didn't have internet access. Or email.
My problems started with a voicemail--that I didn't even call back from my cell phone.
They couldn't be running up my phone bill. It's pre-paid. Once the money is gone--the calls stop.
To have "cloned" my devise would have required tampering with my SIM card.
That didn't happen.
My old man's phone is pre-paid too, but on a different network.
My sister is in DC--again, different network.
Whatever this is--it moves with ease.
It has full access to your phone.
As I learn more--I will make updates.
If you know more--please share...

Anyone else get these?
I just got my first (and hopefully last one). It came up as T-Mobile on the phone caller ID, and really messed me up for what I was doing at the time.
This is the first call that has gone in or out of this phone since I got it, no one has my number and it really threw me off...wasn't expecting it. I was a little pissed that I had to start my memory test over again. Not cool.
I couldn't figure out wtf they wanted, i'm paid up on my next few expected bills already, so I called back on my other phone and that's when I found out it was just a "how do you like our service" call.
Well, I gave them a little bit of an earful explaining how I liked it a lot better before that call came in. That's when I found out I could register with T-Mobile to put T-Mobile on my "do not call" registry - lol, gave me a chuckle.
They said it would take up to 30 days for it to take effect, which is about how long i've had this phone. Anyone else get these calls? Think I could expect another one or more before they get blocked?
( Sorry guys, general is the closest thing to off-topic to ask this senseless question )
Honestly I appreciate that they called cause I got a cheaper rate for my wife and me. Obviously they didn't know you were performing a test on your phone, but I can see how frustrating that can be, especially if you hadn't even given the number out to anyone. And since you've registered on their own do not call list so you should be fine. I got a call about a month ago and they haven't kept calling or anything like that, I think they just went through a wave of calls to everyone. And now that the AT&T merger is less likely, they're probably not as worried about retention.
Okay - I've about had it with T-mobile.
I should be sleeping right now. I work pretty much around the clock, my job is to serve many different clients at all hours of the day and night.
The opportunities I do have to sleep are not many, and necessary. And yet they keep calling me for who knows what reasons.
I pay all my bills ahead of time. There are multiple "do not call this person" messages in my account when it gets pulled up on the computer.
And they still call. Who knows what for this time, but I'm pissed and woe to the T-mo store rep who is gonna get a piece of my mind when I'm awake enough to drive.
I am gonna go talk to sprint reps at the stores I see around in my travels. When I find one who can work with me on buying out my t-mo contract, they're history.
It's not like I haven't repeatedly told them to not call me, add me to do not call lists, and made it known that this is a problem to me. But, my needs are irrelevant to this company, apparently, and they don't care how much they inconvenience me, so why should I give them money?

I would say call and demand to speak with retentions, tell them your problem....and of the previous requests....and demand compensation for their auto dialer calls still
Yea, I was definitely cranky a little while ago.
I got myself together and went to the nearest T-Mo store. I dealt with a rep who helped me to the limit of his clearance/ability, which is all I can ask for from that point of contact.
I was obviously irate and aggravated, but made sure to be as polite as possible and explain my issue as completely as I could. The last time I went through all this I had them put in a notation on my account that I am documenting this harassment so that if it hits the point that I have to switch I will be contesting any attempt at charging an early termination fee, and is something I mention on every audio recorded conversation with them now.
I am really trying to make this work, and making every attempt at being as patient as possible, but the time between when I first posted about this and now there have been a bunch of calls from them I haven't mentioned here. My first posting about this was August 31st, and here I am in the beginning of February STILL having to call customer service and telling them not to call me.
I have incoming calls blocked on my phone number with them, the only people who can get through ARE T-Mobile. There should be multiple notations on my account about not calling me. My account has been in good standing since I started it - always paid in full and on time. Always for more then what's needed so i'm ahead of my bill. I've brought other people into T-Mobile who have switched based on what they've seen me do with this device - and this is documented too through refer a friend.
Given all that, that should make me an ideal customer that they want to keep happy. I can't figure out why they are trying their hardest to make me hate them, but it's working. I don't hesitate to speak good about companies that deserve it - be it through exceptional products, or service, or whatever... and i'm hesitant to speak ill on companies in general unless they do something really bad.
For me to have come back here and dug up this post earlier while I was all groggy and waking up from their intrusion, i'm hitting the point of writing T-Mo off as a loss, as posting all my little problems along the way was a triviality I didn't indulge in.
By the time I do hit retentions, I doubt there's gonna be anything they can do for me to keep me with their service. I'm not gonna ask to be bumped to retentions, they'll send me there if they push me to the point of switching. By that time I will have a very well documented list of grievances with the dates, times and names of all people i've talked to and everything that was supposed to be done.
After 6 months I expect to be able to sleep when I need it (which happens to be during 'normal' business hours) and not be bothered by my carrier, whom i've repeatedly explained to why they shouldn't be calling me at that time. If they're going to make it harder for me to earn the money to pay them for their service, i'll find someone who isn't going to place that burden on my life.
I dunno - sorry for the rant, just needed to vent a bit before calling customer service this time to sort it out again. I just got in from the store, i'm going to relax and take a wander around the woods where I took the pictures in the picture thread and see about doing some more work on that for a bit. It's about the same time of day I took them before. Then i'll come back and call customer service.
I took off for the night tonight, I rarely do so it's no problem, but by the time I got in to work tonight i'd be so wound up I wouldn't be productive. Instead i've got like 30 hours left in a forum project i've been working on for here, so i'll ignore the world and do that with my time instead. I'll feel a lot better channeling all my frustration into the energy to do something positive...see if I can drag something worthwhile out of this.
Edit:
And to be fair here, it's the phone calls that are the source of my aggravation. Signal is great, I get good reception all over the place and the network itself is awesome.
I also have no issues with billing or anything like that, it's just these random calls that are getting to me.
I actually just got a call from them a few minutes ago

Just my spare change.
This is why Airplane Mode is on your phones.
Delivered via candygram for Mr. Mongo.
The point is he can't turn it on that because he needs to b available for clients, as I read it?
Also he's on the no call list which is why he's upset.
Just my spare change.
No, don't do cellular calls at all. Do do a lot of push mail and data use.
...and now i'm getting text messages from them...at least two so far today. Asking how i like their service, and if i'd refer anyone to T-mobile.
Well, i used too and have - documented with them that i've used their refer a friend for customers in current good standing.
The answer is no, I will no longer be referring anyone to T-Mobile, to the text messages they are sending me. If they could've just left me alone, fine, but now it's my mission to talk people out of T-mobile service, they've irked me to no end.
I spend all this time investing in talking to their customer service and reps trying to get them to stop calling and bothering me, and now they're starting in on the text messaging.
"oh, but it's free" ... but the aggravation on top of my current gripe is not, and something like this just throws fuel on the fire of my frustration.
If I owed them money, or something, fine - but I don't, they have no reason to be pestering me like this, it's as if because I DON'T want them to they are doing it more.
I will be actively soliciting offers from other carriers now, I don't have to put up with this.
That is crazy. I've been with them since Voicestream and not once received a courtesy call lol. Seems to me someone is jerking your chain, not cool.

this app is good for call blocking.

That is true but only to a point. Wireless internet IE cable/broadband is always the same. Only if you change the modem does the ip address change. But if you are on a wireless network IE sprint verizon tmobile etc etc it is ever changing. However the gate ip address is always the same. Each state has its own gate ip address. The only way to change that is to move to another state.
sprint blackberry phones (and probably verizon too, since they are both cdma networks) have an option called enable static ip address, when enabled, it always shows your ip adress as 0000 etc etc. by now there are probably some android devices with this option. not to mention the fact that websites only record the ip adress you register with. all he had to do was register with a different ip address or a static ip address. hell, i have been banned from other forum sites and all i did was use a different email address. its not that hard to register with fake information.

True. But if people that have been banned attempt to use mobile device to by pass that xda can block remote access to sprint verizon tmobile etc etc there by rendering any registering from ip addresses belonging to said carriers not possible. Its very simple.
first, i doubt the mods can really block remote access to carriers ip addresses. second, even if they could, i doubt they would go to that much trouble just for this guy diabolic. they would also have to know it was him that was trying to do that, and unless they did it in the past, they have no record to go by. third, even if they did block him from using a static ip address, all he has to do then is go to the library. as i said before, they only record the ip address you register with. the library will obviously have a different ip address than his home computer. once he registers with a different ip address, he can log on through his home computer without being detected. it is really not that hard to get back into a website that you have been banned from. the mods arent going to go to a lot of trouble to keep him from coming back. whatever security measures this website has are most likely automated, as with most websites. its much more realistic to think that they will just ban him again if they catch him using this site.

Well they do have the tools. My bud has tmobile and he attempted to create a xda username. Mid way thru the processor it blocked him saying "Tmobile Wireless Static IPs are not able to register with xda due to misuse". He was never an xda member to begin with. I lead him to root and roms but he had to use his wifi connection to register. Trust me. Xda does have the tools to block this stuff.
then why was i able to register on my phone without using wifi? you keep trying to argue this point. there are plenty of ways around being banned. this guy diabolic may not have been a genius, but i dont think he was an idiot. he is a developer, maybe not a good one, but im sure he knows something about computers. if he wants back on this site, i am sure he can find a way. you just keep acting like the mods are smart enough to catch him no matter what, and this site has the greatest security. ever heard of spoofing an ip address? several ways to do it and its not that hard. easier than spoofing a phone number. if you want to keep thinking this guy wont be able to come back no matter what, then keep thinking that. i choose to think realistically, so i know that if this guy wants to come back, he will find a way.
who cares if he comes back? its not going to be the end of the world.
thats my point exactly. this guy is acting like he is charles manson or something and everyone is on the lookout for him. smh.
He's back!

You know what I'm going to admit that I'm 100% wrong for the things that I have done.
Ever since I have learned more I have gotten way more ahead and cocky with myself and other people and I changed after the ban I received.
- xtrem88 is right, prior to dec I turned rude.
- AndroidBotx is 100% wrong if you don't know the story please don't post I was not home and uploaded it from elsewhere but I finished the credits on the thread I have never ever kanged anything.
- AFAinHD I always give credit just forgot one time
I have something I have been working on since I was banned and will upload a preview, I'm sorry guys.

How did you manage to get unbanned. That is pure bull **** on the mods part. Several great devs were banned for kanging work and here you are back. I am going to email the admin of xda. I do not know what is going on but someone somewhere screwed the pooch on letting you back. Absolutely speechless over the mods lack of ability to run this site.
It was a week ban for flaming, not for "kanging".
Email him he won't do anything..
I got banned for flaming a person because they flamed me and we both got banned.
If you look at all of my work it's never KANGED.
I always add my credits, the only thing that I was wrong for was not adding credit in one of my roms.
I even said sorry and your still acting like this, wow.

Ok so heres the odd thing
Older version of google voice app installed on my old Droidx phone, it would call any number through the same dialed out google voice number thereby allowing me to put that number into my friends and family list with verizon.
well, with the sgs3 and ICS it appears that old version of google voice is not compatible as it force closes when trying to use it.
So, I install the current version available from the market, BUT it still dials the SAME number from before, no matter what. It is always the same number. I have called a few hundred different people over the past 2 weeks and it has always been the same number (i keep checking to make sure)
to add to the confusion, I got another sgs3 for another line on the same verizon family plan (received the preorder 2 days later then mine) and perform the same installation of the old app and new app from the play store....... BUT that other line uses different numbers almost every time. I dont get it.
heres what I know:
-2 phones same version of the app act differently
-the google voice numbers themselves are sequential
-the emails for the google account are very similar ([email protected] and [email protected])
-the emails are both @gmail.com domain
-the people being called are the same
-the number google voice uses is different
-when calling, 10 digit number is being used on both phones
I thought maybe since I installed the old version of the app and then the new version that maybe something got left behind, nope, i have flashed about 6 different roms and factory reset a dozen times. I have even deleted the system and restored with different stock images.
Does anyone have any insight here? how this could be? how to change the varying number google voice account/app dials and make it the same number as the other one or even a different number but make it dial that number each time?
Im lost here, with no rhyme or reason. any help? anyone? ty

WOW 79 people viewed this and not one could reply?
Well I figured out how to get it dialing one number again.
all you do is...
you know maybe no one cares, never mind I will keep it to myself unless theres a demand for knowing how to do it.
I have the same problem as you. I've been looking for a fix but haven't gotten any help either

I will pm you.
questions first ......are the calls going through to your person you are trying to call?

yes. the call completes fine, its just that the number it dials out on (not my gv number, but the dialing number that initiates the call) think of it similar to a calling card. where you dial a number to get access to the call.
Anyways, I dial a number, say Brian, I hit call and it dials a gv number then connects me to Brians number. That gv number changes and is random seemingly, so one cant put the numbers into say their A-list or Verizon's friends and family as they use to be able to before....
well, i guess, until now.
ah yea, i know exactly what you are talking about. google changed that a good while back in their app. I noticed this also because i woul use the google number that it called in my 10 free friends number alot (may be one reason they had to change it, verizon got jelly of a number not using any minutes). you can actually google about it ( i did when it happened ) and i actually found the app that was lower version that did not use different numbers (access numbers).
also, one thing i remember reading did state that they most likely changed this setup because of the need to add more access numbers due to increased popularity.
i actually have used my GV number for 2+ years i believe as a alternate primary line to my business (was great idea when i had the number as a free friend number.
hopes this helps ?
well the old version of the app worked........ until i got on the sgs3 with ics, it force closes now (on old version)....
But do not fear, for I have figured out how to get it to work like it use to!!! I have it dialing the same number again and again. it was exciting since I have multiple gv numbers that we use as our main number (different people in the family) ty what you posted does help... Im not the only one needing this. ty

how did you get it to work or were you not going to say?
Im gauging demand.
It doesnt/didnt seem like anyone cared or knew about the app and its functionality. If thats the case, then I will keep how I have it working to myself, but if others find they could use it... ty
You realize you wasted four or five posts saying you were not going to reveal the way how, unless you had the peoples interests. when you could have only used up one post. Kinda seems wasteful of your time and mine when you are in a question and answer thread category, instead not a beg and ye shall receive one.
If you wish to be asked for this by a group of followers than good luck as I for one will not give any more of my time nor knowing waste a servers space. Space is not free if you are unaware.
I do not wish any hard feelings toward you nor your opinions and morals but I assume you want only honest replies when you ask a question here and I am replying as expected.
Sorry for the length.

you are right, I have posted a few times. but when only 2 other people are talking about the thread that is a month old, and only explaining their interest surely you can see just how frustrating it was that no one offered any insight until I said I figured it out. I mean if the thread wasnt worth the time when there wasnt a way, it sure shouldnt mean any more now that I figured it out .... right? btw, you did post "questions first" I appreciate your interest now though.
I dont mind sharing it one off with people as I have already shared it with others here. Frankly though, maybe your right... I will just shut my mouth and not share it and refrain from continuing to post to see if there is more interest here for it. sorry I wasted your time.
p.s. I wouldnt worry about server resources here, surely youve seen some of the other threads go on and on for hundreds of posts not saying anything. But I have reported thread to be deleted.
ty
Well due to such a great demand for people wanting to know how to do this, I have asked the thread be unlocked. I didnt want to argue in any other posters thread so I simply linked it to this one that really is the original one.
There should be some caution explained that Verizon probably doesnt like this because it sort of abuses the Friends and Family list. Afterall, this really is only useful to the people on a tiered MINUTE plan (unlike newer plans that have unlimited voice but tiered data). Google obviously folded to pressure from the Cellular providers back when versions after 0.3.0 where released. I know personally I save nearly 500 minutes a month on outgoing calls alone. Configured correctly, a user could effectively eliminate all minutes on the line using Google Voice.
As we should all be cautious about posting this method publicly because there is a reason this is so 'difficult' to do, please just pm me so that we hopefully dont give this to verizon so easily. I am asking that all that is posted here is:
Thanks
"Yep, it works...." (or similar)
Please dont post any details about this publicly, even in this thread. If you are having a hard time getting it to work after a pm with me, just message me again, I will happily help. If you dont like this or think I shouldnt do it this way, you can pm me.
I dont want to argue with anyone about this. Thanks for understanding.
Thanks tillithz... worked like a charm!
