If you can deal with Palm OS or Symbian.
If your phone runs well and does everything you need, why get locked in ? Wait 'til it dies or ceases to do what you need.
And spend the money on hookers and liquor , if the money is just burning a hole in your pocket

Wait till the end of February. If nothing new from HTC or MS WM6.5, then get the best device available: the HD! You can always upgrade from it later...

I second this
Perhaps we can see the HD touch pro!!!

The Nokia 97 looks fantastic, and its likely to come to Orange (with whom im with). Since its due April/May i may wait for it. But its so tempting to get the HD since my Touch is on its last legs now.

I'm still on an Exec (aka Universal)
I'm struglling with the decision to upgrade to a Serra, and try to but a better ROM on it, or to get a plain Touch Pro or HD from expansys on T-mobile.
Even thinking of staying with my exec!!!
There seems to be a lot of issues esp with the touch pro, and even worse with the O2 ROM
Had all this before with the Orbit 2 - the video issues put me off that one too
Any advice ?
Sam

im off to the far east in a couple of months
ill treat myself then....and drop my diamond
diamond has done what i needed.....time to move on

I doubt we will see anything until August. I wouldn't mind some type of leak at least to hold me over.
No offense, but this has to be your first PocketPC/Smartphone When companies promise something they never keep their promise
We have to wait and see how threads like this one emerge on the different forums. We've seen the ROM months ago but we don't get the real deal any day soon I'm afraid
My Palm distributor already have a test rom from PALM

it is a sd card update - as soon as I get it and test it I will post it
That's the first I've heard of a test ROM! Makes me even more impatient!!!
I hope the update comes soon at least a leak because i need the internet share and don't want to buy pda-net using bluetooth and wm6 just looks cool
Been using Internet Share on my HTC Wizard. Excellent application, so, so easy to use!
I know my dad has it on his 8525 but is there any way i can install internet sharing onto my 750 without rom update ?

I hope this person can actually extract it, I am not in the mood for someone to tease me and my Treo!
Since the 750 successor is already almost ready to go (late summer, early autumn release?), I wonder if Palm really is going to offer a WM6 Update.
A couple of weeks ago, I talked to somebody at Vodafone Germany at he told me that a WM6 is definetely planned and that this is actually the reason why an updated WM5 with enabled HSDPA has been delayed.
Yesterday I talked to another person at a special event and he actually told me that there won't be any more upgrades/updates for the 750v since the successor is already in the pipeline.
It may not be true but considering the past few months and the fact that nothing has happened so far, I start to believe that there won't be any more updates from Palm or Vodafone and that they're actually ready to sell the new Treo xxx whenever they decide to put it on the market. Sad but maybe true.
I could never believe that they would just drop this long project with the wm6 and so much test wm6 treos out there. For cingular no wm6 has been released yet as an update and far as I can remember is that the blackjack was supposted to be first to get it then I would think that's the treo 750 because they didnt waste time on the wm5 like the 8525. they also said that they won't release any other wm6 treos untill they get the update for the 750 which untill the time they bring out a new treo with wm6 for any provider I'm still going to believe its coming.

What successor are you talking about? I haven't heard anything except for that ugly gandolf device. And that's definitely not the successor to the 750.

There is going to be a Treo 800w/800p. The only thing is that it is going to be CDMA for Verizon and Sprint. They will be out in September or October.
The 800w will be 320x320, WM6, WiFi & more memory.
I don't know what this really has to do about AT&T not giving the 750 WM6 though. I really don't see how they will not give any more updates - I was told by Cingular that there will be a HSDPA update. You would think there would be a nice class action lawsuit if that didn't happen.
There is two new treos.
An Treo 500 which has been spotted as gandolf and also a Treo 800 which has yet to appear.
Treo 800 specs include WLAN and GPS.
Both have HSDPA
The guy he was probally talking to though or mistaken him with the treo 700 because there is no word on a 800 for cingular just the 500 which is a wm standard. And even if there was a 800 coming out it won't be till late 2009 to early 2010 probally. By the time it goes through sprint and verizon and then designed and tested for cingular.

Dreaming of the Dream

Ok, so anyone have any idea of release date, retail cost or carrier for HTC's Google/Android phone the Dream? I broke my MDA and so I think I'm going to get the new iPhone ($200.00) as a temporary patch til it comes out. Best I've heard so far is the fall this year.
well the dream seems to be just that at the moment.
We've seen neither spy shots nor official shots yet, have we?

Best Upgrade ??

Currently using Artemis and have done for a while, Re-Flashed loads with new available software, can't fault it at all. Now, Here goes, Looked at xperia and the new O2 Serra, Like them both but was just wondering if there are more better or faultless handsets to upgrade to. With O2 at present and can upgrade any time, Cheers,D

The Blackstone AKA Touch HD is also a viable option.
A friend of mine bought his from Mobile.co.uk (There's a thead in the Blackstone forum on Mobile.co.uk) on O2, got to keep his number etc.
Ta
Dave
Cheers Dave, Is The Blackstone, AKA Touch HD got the slide out qwerty, Think that would suit me better after pulling out the stylus from my artemis all those times, that's the only drawback with the texting i think. Had a look at a few handsets and was goin to go with what all you guys that are qualified had to say about the best on the market at the moment.
Cheers,D
I´ll wait a little bit
A few days ago has been leaked the HTC roadmap 09 and very very nice devices are coming!
my suggestion is waiting for WM7 to come out.

Which phone to buy?

I've been looking for a pocket PC for a few weeks now and my attention has been drawn to the HTC models.
I would be needing it firstly for the internet and storing PDF files on that i need and can access at work and lastly as a phone.
As of yesterday i had narrowed it down to HTC HD and the diamond2 and was ready to order it but then seen that the HTC HD2/Leo/firestone (whatever it's called) is due to be released on October the 12th.
How likely do you think that release date will be?
If it is going to be December than i may as well go for the HD1 or the HTC diamond 2 but still haven't decided which one?
wait to see if the hd2/leo gets released when they say, and then decide what to go for because im sure there will be some cheap hd's around then.
Also being an owner of a touch hd I would say that the screen is excellent but i do miss having buttons so i would say go try out some models before you buy to make sure your happy with typing with no buttons
Wait for the LEO release in October. But, if you want a keyboard then look at the TP2.
reply
I agree with badasschris. It is a good idea to wait a few days to see whether HD2/LED is released on October 12th.
If not, you could have a look at HTC Diamond 2. I am using it and it is really great.
If you wanna choose one from Diamond 2 and HD1, I would say Diamond 2 cuz I myself is using this one and it's a nice device. HD is a little bit large for pocket. But you can have a look at Touch Pro 2. It's a great device. Or you can wait for LEO which will be announced soon.
One more for TP2!!
YEa if i was going for a current device tp2 would be top of the list because of the keyboard. but you would be silly to get anything before there is more news on the HD2 (leo)
TP2 or Xperia if you are in a hurry. X2 or Leo if you are willing to wait.

[Q] Play the waiting game?

Hey All,
I am finnaly upgrade ready and have already sold my previous andriod device in the hopes that being stuck using a moto razr would modivate me to do some research on my next purchase. Boy has it, I never knew how dependant I have become of a smart phone. But, anyways my question is this. With the news of dual core offerings on the horizon should I tough it out with the Razr and get the deep discount for a 2xcore or pick up a Captivate for around 60 USD shipped. Honestly I know if I wait for the newest and best I will always be waiting because there is always something better being built when the old project goes retail. But, if its a month or two away............. see my dilema? I have found no hard release dates and I'm sure I wont till after the US holiday season is over. Any thoughts on this?
And yes in the poll dual is spelled incorrectly... but I cannot edit.
The Captivate is a nice phone; I have one... but it has a few issues with say the GPS, or mysterious shut downs that some people get, and some people don't. I still like mine, and am just waiting hopefully for an update or rom that'll fix everything.
Not sure about the other phones you're referring to though.
If you want dual core, you should wait for the LG Optimus 2X.
Swyped from my HTC Desire running Oxygen 1.0.4 with Tapatalk.
I completely agree with you. I've been through 3 phones since last July (2009) and have no idea what to do next. I went from a Blackberry I purchased in July of 09, then by december I made the switch to the G1. That sold me on Android. I fell in love. Months later of having the phone, the MyTouch Slide was introduced and I figured the G1 was getting severely outdated and since I didn't pay too much I'd go try that. I also wanted another touch screen phone with a full keyboard. Well, release day June 2010, I picked up the MyTouch Slide. Little did I know it would be abandoned at the start.
People will try to convince you stating tha the phone isn't abandoned, but for me I think it is. The phone was released in June with 2.1 and getting 2.2 seems more like a dream day by day. Yes, I'm rooted, but the phone has quirks and Tmobile was quick to release better phones soon after (G2 etc.) Now we have 2.3 released and 3.0 is already in development. So, if you ask me the MyTouch Slide is out of the picture (plus the HD came out almost immediately after.)
So now the question for me is do I wait a bit until I have the money for a Nexus S or do I wait it out for the Dual Core phones? Nexus S is supposed to be quite powerful and I'm all for a stock OS without the BS Tmo loads on their phones. So, I feel you on it. I haven't the slightest idea what to do next. Will a dual core phone be released mid-year? Q3ish or early 2012?
