Question on the radio - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hey guys and experts,
I was browsing through the forums and I came accross the radio thread. I'm extremely confused with it and I'd also like to improve the performance of my 3G and all that. I've been looking around the site but I haven't found anything like an instruction or guide on how to do all that stuff. So I'd like to get some help from you guys if you don't mind.
1) First of all, in regards to version numbers, higher number does not mean it's better right? My radio version is 1.02.25.32 and my 3g reception is spotty and so are my calls sometimes.
2)Another question is, due to the fuze being my first winmo phone ever, when you guys mean security unlock, do you mean the phone being able to use any sim card from any carrier or does it carry a deeper/different meaning. I did get my phone unlocked by calling ATT and asking them for the code in which I provide the IMEI and they gave me a code, the problem is, I'm not sure if it's the same "unlock" that you guys are talking about. (the radio thread said something about having the word security unlocked on the tricolor boot screen, but my phone has the stock ATT rom in it, so I suspect that it might now show)
3) I'm probably inept at searching through forums so I couldn't find any thread that has full instructions on how to change the radios and all that. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to such a thread on how to do that.
I do apologize for such a long post and also the possibility of this question/request being asked already. If you do read through to here, thank you for your time, I'd appreciate any help that is provided.

Higher doesn't necessarily mean better. The poll results give a pretty good indication of overall happiness with any given radio. Based on that, I ditched .32 for .28.
Security unlock is more than SIM unlock. In addition to being sim-free, a security unlocked device can load the radio ROM from another device family.
Check the flashing guides. Essentially, you must load hard-SPL first. That allows you to freely load radios and roms. Always do your research before loading a radio rom though! Radios are the hottest battleground of the spy vs. spy games played by Operators and XDA developers. Operators don't want you changing radios or ROMs and they are always coming up with software that won't allow itself to be changed. If you flash a radio on that has this issue you could be stuck with it. So far, I don't believe any of the radios in the radio thread have issues. You must security unlock before flashing any non Raphael radio however.

Gotcha. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I'm going to test out a different radio so that maybe I can get better reception. I spend most of my time on edge for some reason.
EDIT: I just noticed that installing HardSPL will clear my PDA of all data. I'm wondering if Sprite Back up is good enough as a backup program or do you suggest something else. I did a bunch of tweaking on my fuze like the PTT remap, camera tweak, network selection, etc etc.

Oh, I did forget to ask what's the favorite back up software for the XDA forum goers. I'm looking for a software that will back up all the tweaks and stuff that I did to the pda before I run HardSPL

*bump to page 1*

1 last bump.
Suggestion on back up softwares please?

I don't think HardSPL clears your phone of all programs and data. That said, I tried to search on that to be sure but couldn't find any confirmation.
Obviously, flashing a ROM will definitely clear all data.
Dunno about flashing a new radio.

There was a particular warning on backing up your data before flashing HardSPL, so I wanted to be on the safe side, the main thing now is that I'd like to find a back up software that will back everything up (registry changes, programs installed, various settings) pretty much everything I did.

Been a while....but I'm back ATT Tilt

So I haven't been here in a while but it seems that everyone and their Mom are making Rom's for HTC devices. Also it seems the tilt is known by a few names so I never am quite sure if I'm reading info for the right phone.
I looked at the wiki but a lot of that information is old. So I guess my 1st question is this:
My company is getting me a AT&T Tilt and the 1st thing I want to do is get rid of the bloatware from AT&T. There doesn't seem to be a catch all for all things related to the tilt.
So what ROM's are stable enough to install?
Are these phones unable to be sim unlocked (not like it matters)?
ISo you can flash the Radio ROM seperate from the Phone RIM (I'm so confused)?
And finally this phone can still be CID unlocked (Which will need to happen)in order to flash a unofficial "cooked ROM on to the handset)?
If there is one post that shows all this info that would be awesome. I've followed a few threads but the information seems disjointed and then others start talking about handsets similar to the tilt but I don't know if it applies.
Soft for all the newbie questions.
I had a TMo Dash and MDA and then a Cingular 8125. That was over 6 months ago. Started a new job and they made me go to a blackberry. Then we got bought by Qualcomm so now I have convinced my boss to get me this phone.
Thanks in advance
It's all here. Your Tilt is an HTC Kaiser and you're in the right forum! Some quick answers:
HardSPL gives CID unlock
No free SIM unlock yet
All ROMs are stable.
Independent radio flashing is limited b/c AT&T's latest ROM features a radio unique to it. Sound is lost if either of the two appear separately. Orange ties SIMLock to their radio so if you flash a different radio on an Orange phone, you will need to sim unlock with several of the free unlockers to get up and running again. However you can flash a different ROM on Orange w/o touching the radio and everything's golden still.
Look at the sticky threads in upgrading for more complete answers. Happy hunting!
Nice executive summary Sleuth, however I have difficulties to understand what you mean with this:

What exactly do you mean with several of the free unlockers?
oops damn, what a typo! I meant "several of the not-free" unlockers....
Try looking here as well:

No worries, actually a very interesting phenomenom.
Did any of the guys have to do a double unlock? (i.e. before and after they moved to orange radio). And were the codes different?
hope this helps
hardspl is necessary for ROM flashing (sleuth kinda glazed over it)
when you put on hardspl, it won't look like anything was done, but you can then flash ROMs as much as you'd like.
I stick with at&t ROMs to avoid radio issues.
You could always start by hard resetting and then soft resetting before the at&t customizations install. Either way it's a good idea to test out the stock ROM.

Question: How to completely wipe a Tilt?

No, not a ROM flash: I want to completely erase every last piece of data in my Tilt and install the SPL, OS, and radio from scratch.
As far as I can tell, FrankenKaiser will do that, but it (in theory) only works with the radio from hell... which I have, albeit the "_patched" version...
I am trying to work from a clean slate, rather than flash another ROM... trying to clear up a problem that I think can only be fixed by such a drastic move... and of all the posts I've seen, (unless I'm retarded - quite possible) none has addressed such a move. Is FrankenKaiser the solution? If so, do I need to put the radio from hell on first? If it's not the solution, what is? Or is there one at all?
Thank you

This is possible, but why?
After you wipe your phone you will be re-flashing the ROM / Radio and SPL anyway.
If you do do this, make sure you read and understand the process (and what the pre-requisites are first).

Install Sleuth's V_3.0 WM6.1. I have moddified a version with Jocky to work with that OEMSBL version.
I will PM you with a link for the moddified FrankenKaiser, hey that sounds familiar, ohh yeah, Jocky let me name it!
HOWEVER, I think I'd try a few other things first. Like check the Radio Protocol. On boot does the red protocol version end in H or W? W is not for US & can create issues with 3G. Also, you can try using MTTY with my G3SPL MFG_SPL to fomat a few thing & to flush out Nand blocks. Many things to try before venturing to FK. I know you PM'd me, but I've been a wee bit busy, I'll make a little time if I can help though. Try me on MSN/Live Messenger [email protected] (Even if it says "Offline" give it a try, I may just be lurking)
Protocol ends in H, currently using the Neon 1.58.25.17 radio, I have tried virtually every other 6.1 radio in existence, and about a dozen different ROMs, including the stock AT&T and letting the bloatware install just for poops and giggles. But not the one that you suggested GS, what the hell, one more ROM flash ain't gonna hurt...
I am reticent to think it's a hardware issue because the G and H icons do appear, I just can't get a connection, and it all happened while using the GPS (LiveSearch and HTC GPS Tool specifically). If it was hardware related I would imagine that I wouldn't get the icons, it would just show no service.
Also, the reason I wanted to do a complete whitewash is because, even when installing a new ROM, I have noticed that certain traces and settings remain from days gone by (certain registry settings, POP3 accounts, etc), which I find odd.
I would be interested in the MTTY approach, a link would be appreciated... running out the door now to go play bar manager...
Sorry GS, didn't wanna seem impatient, just trying to get a wider input as to a solution, so I can (a) fix mine and (b) maybe suggest to others (a bunch from what I've seen, here and elsewhere) with the same problem, rather than everyone sending them to AT&T / HTC for replacements.
Personally, I think that the 3G issue is some corruption somewhere in the phone's firmware that a ROM/radio/SPL change doesn't affect, and - as much as I hate to invoke such people - the guys at AT&T that looked at it believed the same, didn't think it was an antenna issue (although the widespread belief is that it IS, and furthermore that anyone working at AT&T is a dolt - which IS usually the case). Far be it from me to be naive, but one would think that if this was as widespread a problem as it is and was hardware related that there would be a recall, which there hasn't been.
Again, thanks to everyone for their assistance.
So, I guess the next question is... how do I use MTTY to, as GSLEON suggested, flush out the bad blocks?
Again, thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
go ahead and read up on this post. It will explain everything for you...

You could try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutron_bomb
No seriously, which way do you flash a rom ?
Just flash and basta? Flash and HR after that ? Have tryed with a different computer /os ? From SD card ? I had some reminiscent traces of previous roms if I didn't hard resetted after the flash.

Thought about it, but motherf*%$# Al-Qaida has made getting my hands on one so difficult.
I flash from a WinXP PC, have not tried another one because this is the only one I can get my grubby little hands on, flash / HR. Have not tried from SD card. I have had traces of old ROMs as well - I tired using PDAUltimate v6 and still had the splash screen from Garmin 4.4c... odd... that and other incidents of remnants of ROMs gone by.
You may want to check here and see if there is anything that may apply. (This is coming from someone that had a 3G failure.)

Well, that IS the usual behavior when the radio hardware goes poof, many people including myself experienced it. In the end GPS failed too on mine, as well as the GSM radio, and the phone was always running hot and draining batteries extremely quickly.
See the link posted by John.
The quick and dirty of it is....
1. The Icon lighting up means the radio and protocol is correct to talk on the correct 3G bands in your area
2. From what I have been able to gleen on how the 3G signaling works (not an expert here) it is basically GSM signaling for the UMTS/HSDPA Voice/data path buildup.
3. It is most interesting to go to an area that has non PCS band 3g, use field test to verify this if you want, you can lock your phone on edge and use voice and data 850, but will not be able to build up a UMTS/HSDPA connection on 3G. You need to go to a non PCS area as I have seen for the most part in Seattle they run the edge net on 850 and 3G on PCS frequencies.

Questions about HTC Touch Diamond

I've got a few questions about the HTC Touch Diamond. I just bought one with a clean ESN that is currently flashed for Sprint. I'm planning on moving it over to Metro PCS (I know that their service can suck, but there is good coverage in my area).
So I'm wondering what I need to do to get it completely functional. I was planning on taking it to one of the stores and getting them to flash it on their network, but I've heard some stories about that process. First of all, it isn't officially supported on their list of phones that they will flash. I've also read reports of many people getting them to flash it anyway.
So I need some advice. Do I need to do anything to the phone before I take it to them to flash? Or do I need to somehow flash it first and then get them to put it on their network. I'm very new to modifying cell phones and I'm not sure what I need to do to make this process happen. If anything needs to be done to the phone, then I'm sure that I can do it. I'm very very computer savy and I modify gaming consoles and stuff like that all the time. I'm just not sure what my process needs to be in this case. Also, I've read that their flashing process will only activate voice and text messaging (not internet and picture messaging). I'd also like to activate the internal GPS, but I'll worry about that after I get the phone online.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
I suggest you go over to the Diamond section and read some of the sticky threads to understand how to unlock, flash.. and so forth

If your phone has a SIM Card Slot then its a GSM Model. If it has no SIM Card then its CDMA.
Ohhhh I see Thank you ever so much.
Would this be the right ROM to use - just making sure, before I start to read all the instructions ..............

You didnt say what phone you have - so we cant tell!
If you have a GSM phone (sim card) then you want to start reading here If however you have a CDMA phone (no sim card) then here would be a good place to look

Steveyg, Touch Pro's are CDMA too. No one wants to help you if you're going to brick your device. Are you GSM or CDMA? We will assist as much as possible, but help us by answering that simple question.
Ohhh I understand now
Mine is a phone with a SIM, thus GSM is that correct?

Radio is comparable to something like your WiFi card in your laptop. Depending on your location, etc, some radios are better than others. They control your signal, GPS, WiFi, etc. The most used one that I've seen is 1.14.25.35
UC Capable is something you need when you start cooking. If you're new to the Raph, you probably don't need this info yet.
SPL is the most important. Since you bought your device pre-flashed with 6.5, is should be hardSPL. This helps prevent your device from becoming an expensive paperweight. Now, it helps, but doesn't guarantee. If you put your device into bootloader (hold vol-, hold power, and reset with stylus) your device at the top of your screen should say something like SPL-1.90.Olinex. This means it's hardSPL and you are able to flash custom ROMS, like the NRGZ28 ROM you linked to. As long as they are GSM you should be able to flash any ROM for the GSM Touch Pro.
These are the basics so just keep reading the wiki. I will answer any questions I can, so just shoot me a PM if needed
Hey, if you want to flash your Raphael, I'd recommend you read this
I did my first, regardint this thread, and actually worked, really simple if you ask me!
Some suggestions: Leave the radio, for first, just do a simple ROM flash, and after that if you find it nessescery you can do it later.
The only ROM I tried for my Raphael is TAEL's ROM, it's amazing compared to the stock ROMs!!! If you're intrested click on it in my signature!
I have the following ROM;-
r:- 1.11.25.01
g:-52.58.25.30u
d 5. phoenix
Do I have to revert to a OEM ROM? If so, where do I find those please?
Good news, I've been sucessfull Phoned imaged to TAEL Roms - very good.
Could of questions;-
1. Don't have the sat nav the other image had. Can't remember the name of it. but I used to use that quite alot. Does anyone know where I can download it from?
2. Used to have an application called FLASHLIGHT - great little app. Its a TOURCH application that used the FLASH Light. Really handy. Where can I download it please.
Many thanks.

1) are you talking about the garmin or tomtom gps software? or the one where you use the GPS to lock down a location (kinda like "dude where's my car?" app for the iphone)
search on the forums under software development subforum. it's called Torch.. that or NueLight.
Thanks I managed to find the torch light thing, but still can't find the sat nav. Not sure what the name was. It was really good though. Wasn't the tom tom navigator. Wish I made a note of it, as it was fully working version :-(
are you talking about the GPS navigation software? if so then it's either garmin (mobile XT) or tomtom
Hi,
Looking on my storage card Managed to find the name - AUTO MAPA. Tried to load it from the storage card, and it works. So I have copied the exe to the start menu, multimedia folder and it works great
Whats this GARMIN Mobile XT like then?
Since updating to TAEL Rom, my signal is very low and keeps disconnecting from the network.
Do I need to upgrade my RADIO then?
My version is;-
1.11.25.01
I found this one, would this work ?
http://www.4shared.com/file/133094257/1e1ce983/BlackStone_Radio_1172509.html
try testing other radio. I changed my radio to the new ATT official rom (not so new anymore but it was the latest updated ATT rom). Test it out for a few days each and map out what you think works best and keep to that.
One thing I noticed is that some radios will crash your phone after a call.. they may give you better signals, but it will crash your phone, so be aware of that.
Hi,
Thanks for the message. Does it matter that I am on TMOBILE and not ATT ?

OS Stability issues after installing SIM unlock application

Hi everyone. Sorry in advance if I annoy any users with my lack of ROM troubleshooting experience.
So I purchased and applied the SIM unlock tool. I flashed the SPL, the Radio, and performed the security unlock and everything worked all peachy and happy-like. I do have to report a very nasty side-effect I've been experiencing since I applied the tools: My WM 6.1 OS gets very unstable at random times. It will run absolutely fast and fine for a bit, then it become absolutely unstable to the point where it does not power itself off via power button and I have to yank the battery. I just wanted to ask what may be causing this stability issue. I tried searching for a similar problem on this and other forums, but not much has come of it.
I have already hard-reset my OS back to all defaults and it still will act out this way. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do? I have tried looking around for the stock radio and SPL to see if restoring it back would fix the problem, but I am not 100% sure which one I should use. Any help would be really great.
Thanks everyone.
Hmm, thanks for the report.
I was thinking of trying the Sim unlocker but want to see what develops of this.
Did you try asking in the Sim unlock thread as well? I'm still busy catching up on the thread...
I fixed the problem. I followed the advice from the video on pocketnow.
I can't post link. I'm still listed as a "new user".
He ran the program, and then AFTERWARDS he downloaded the 2.23.00WU radio from the forum post here on xda.
I re-security locked the phone and changed the radio from the 2.23.00WU to 1.96.00WF. I looked around on google and found it - I'll post link if anyone needs me to find again. I'm not sure, but I believe that the 1.96.00 is the stock version.
Anyways, the stability issues went away completely. I am not sure if that version has the US GSM frequencies on it and I have not tried security unlocking the phone again (I'm just happy to have a working device at the moment). Just wanted to post about what happened.
EDIT: Still not sure if 1.96.00WF is stock but it is not unlocked. I will try the 1.96.10WU sprint version and see if that works ok.
best bet
