this might be the stupidest question ever but my storage card went hawywire and showed random files that didnt even have acgualy names. they showed as "∑∑∑∑∑∑.∑∑∑" and showed as 3.37 gigabytes each. so i got scared and deleted them. i also saw two "_cache" folders so i deleted them and next thing i knew i hdidnt have the most important folders anymore(my documents and program files) is there any possible way that i can get everything back? btw, i dont have a computer right now...
well, without a computer, there's nothing you can really do
unless you wanna take it somewhere else..
there's an app called ActiveRecovery7. i recommended it a while ago to someone to restore storage cards.
very very good piece of software

Check Disk
Hi
You could just try putting the storage card into a windows based computer and running a disk check for errors. I have used this method before to rescue some files but not all. You can do this by:
Start>My Computer>(XRemovable Disk>Right Click>Properties>Tools Tab>Error Checking
Where X is the letter of the card reader as it appears in windows.
Hope that helps

thanks ill try that since activerecovery is not free.
just need to get my memory card!
how could i forget it?
oh well.
honestly, active recovery is worth the price.
it recovers up to 3 layers on physical drives and 2 on digital...
i would buy it just to save something that could go wrong on my pc.

hi guys
I've suddenly found very low internal storage space on my rafael(day before I had definitely more than 250mb free).I looked into the memory and found some strage files and folders-size around 250mb and with generated name (akalkjbgnylkads)SD card is not affected.I've tried to install anti-virus program but it seem to be blocking registry. Also removing was unsuccesful("unable to remove" or "file has changed name.."
Is there a way to boot raphael somehow like normal PC to "emergency mode" (without loading drivers,apps...)?
Or any other ideas?
sorry for my english
Well, I know that SPB Pocket Plus has a safe mode, you could try that. I don't know if its available in the free version.
It sounds like your internal memory is corrupted. It happens rarely, but still, it does happen. You could try scanning the main memory with SK Tools (using storage card tool), but in all likelihood, you need to do a hard reset.
Yup, same thing happened to me a while ago, had files and folders like these in storage card. Sadly, I had to format the card in order to get rid of them, so a Hard Reset will definitely work. Try with SK Tools first, just in case.
apologies for the mistake and my ignorance .... once again I apologize
Looks like you edited and apologize. Thank you

I was using the internal 13gb storage to back up pics from my camera on a trip and all of a sudden it just shows gibberish file names and that u have 13.13gb free of 13.13gb. I tried restarting it, no difference although it did appear to show a few more files. Any ideas? I'd be pretty bummed if i just lost my pics.
seems to show more gibberish files now, but none have any more than 0 bytes... any advice on if it would be possible to recover the drive or anything?
Greetings.
I may have read you wrong but you did say "back up my pics from my camera" which sounds as if they are still on the camera? No sweat if that's so, copy them from the camera to your pc/mac or where ever else would appear to be a safer storage alternative. Then its a simple matter to get them burned to dvd/cd or printed at your local store.
If you meant you copied to the sdcard then deleted the originals from the camera you may still have a chance to resurrect them. If you can mount your cameras storage via USB then find yourself an "unerase" type of program and get them all back that way.
Just a word of advice: Since we are all modding the tablets, which in and of itself is a semi-risky, albeit fun, thing to be doing then do not count on anything being permanently on our tablet if it has any value to you. (we are all in a way beta testers)
I hope my ramblings help you.
Regards,
Fuzzy
Any and all ramblings are appreciated. I took some pics in vegas, filled the 2gb microsd card and dumped those onto the tablets internal storage, then took more pics in california and am now out of luck as far as recovering from the microsd card goes i think. Anyone beg to differ? I haven't really looked into recovery options there.
I'm hoping there is a way to get a direct image of the internal memory and then maybe I could run some utilities meant to recover files, though I am probably out of luck. It was handy wading through the pics on the tablet and uploading them straight to facebook after backing them up to it, though the quality isn't quite as nice of course as the original files. I've only had the thing about a month, so I figured I was safe as far as using it for backing up off my camera on my trip. Lesson learned I guess, grab some $10 sd cards instead of using microsd with an adapter and backing up to the tablet.
Hello,
Super noob here, so I'm in no way trying to offer advice. Just thought I'd share my experience.
Couple of weeks ago I had the gtab attached to my PC to copy some files. After I disconnected I opened the sdcard and basically found the same thing you are experiencing, nothing but a bunch of garbage files.
I think this happened because I pulled the plug too soon when disconnecting. You tap to 'deactivate usb transfer', then you get a series of messages about preparing SD card and such. I think you have to be careful to wait until it's done, which only takes a few seconds.
Unfortunately I can't offer any help about recovering the photos but I can tell you how I fixed my internal sdcard storage.
I simply re-ran the partitioning routine in clockwork mod and it took care of the corruption. The internal storage is fine now.
Sorry I can't offer help on recovering the files, hopefully something comes along.

I was able to recover lost pics from a corrupt external harddrive, using a free program called Recuva. I believe Piriform makes it. Just a thought

yes that sounds perfect, now if only i knew how to get a direct 1:1 dump of the internal memory...
dd would work I think. You'd need root and a big enough USB or uSD to hold the image

awesome man, finally something i can google
i've got a usb hard drive i can connect that is plenty big, not sure if there is a max size limit though...
the only info on dd command i can find is linux specific but i'm assuming it is the same. http://www.brighthub.com/computing/linux/articles/38387.aspx?p=2
"The command used to clone an entire drive would look like this:
dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb"
so sda is source and sdb is where to, so probably replace those with sdcard and sdcard2 or whatever the usb drive would be called.
This site says how to get command line access to my tablet, saying i need the sdk to get adb. http://gailly.net/android/android-tips.html
I can't really try it out til I get home, but my hopes are up. If anyone has tips or wants to say this post is completely wrong I'd much appreciate it.
From the little Droid tinkering I have done it'd be
dd if=/dev/block/mmc???
The input is the SD block device and partition not sure the exact thus the? ??
of=/path/to/mounted/drive
I just recently bought a Sandisk 32Gb class 10 microSD card. I got everything set up and I've been using it for a couple of days now.
Last night I just was using msn app on the phone then it just kinda kicked me off and I couldn't use the phone properly and it rebooted and said that the disk was either blank or it has files with different file allocation. ie fat 32 ntfs all that jazz.
I can not mount the card and i cannot format it again.
So scrounging around I found a SD card adapter for the computer and wacked that in the old port. It shows that it's there but it can not be opened.
I also can not view it's properties it just acts as if it's reading for ages.
Then it crashes explorer.
i tried opening it from command
it can't be opened but after opening the path for c becomes
c:\yujuju as if someone had typed it in.
i'm almost suspicious that it was a virus sent over the network through a program on my phone.
are there known viruses capable of making your micro sd cards unreadable?
if it's not a virus and it's just some kind of error on the micro sd card...
are there anyoptions for it? (has anyone made any recovery programs for SD cards you can download using forced mount methods or anything like that?)
I know i can send it back to the place of purchase but it means i have to pay for it to be sent to another state before they'll even look at it and if they don't think it's a manufacturer fault they'll charge me for it and the time spent trouble shooting. I'm a student and I can't really afford to do that
Just a quick note. I'm using cynogen 7.0.3 Desire
it is a HTC bravo. HBoot 6.93.1002
not sure if you'd need anymore detail than that..
please help :3
update// I just was looking around and I read about a website called recovery-filedotnet
and i downloaded the tool. When i try and scan the SD card the program crashes.
I used the demo version... I don't think this is going to end well. sigh.
Anyone with any knowledge that may help with out having to send it back to the company?
Hi,
Sorry, can't help you with recovering contents of your micro SD card. If you don't want to recover the SD card contents, have you tried formatting it on the PC (sorry, I couldn't tell from your posts whether you've tried that)?
There are also known to be many counterfeit micro SD cards out there. Basically, the counterfeit cards don't have the reported storage size, for example they may have 4GB instead of 32GB, so trying to write more than 4GB will result in data being overwritten (and probably trashing of file allocation tables).
I'm not saying yours is a counterfeit, but just something to be aware of.
You could check out h2testw which tests read/write performance, but also checks whether the SD card is the reported size (I think you'll need to format the SD card first, though).
Here's a link to a post I made using h2testsw on a micro SD card:

Have you attempted to delete the partitions in disk management?

You cannot open the card on a computer. If you try and open the drive explorer actually crashes and you have to open explorer again using run
If you try and open the drive using command prompt. The drive refuses to open.
You can't access properties of the device either.
I bought it from scorptec. An australian computer company.
wwwdotscorptecdotcomdotau
I opened the Microsoft Management Console and opened storage and when the card is connected to the PC it goes in an endles loop of searching for drives.
This is all very strange if you ask me.
To make it perfectly clear. I can not mount or format from the device, from clockwork mod using ROM manager. I can not mount or format from a PC using the GUI or the command prompt. Using Microsoft Management Console fails.
The other weird thing is my computer was stuffed this morning. I couldn't view the details of my computers properties. The wireless keyboard couldn't be used.
The CPU and stuff was listed as unkown.
I did a system restore to an earlier date logged in to safe mode
Even though it's restored successfully it doesn't recognise that my anti virus is running. I had to enable things in msconfig and my remote access was ENABLED!
I don't know if this was related.
But I'm feeling rather depressed after all this.
I've run spyware and anti virus and nothings picked up. So EH today sucks.
But lets just focus on the SD card for now hey? ^-^
Just to be absolutely certain it's the card, go get ubuntu live cd or gparted live cd, boot from it and try and see if the card works there. Imo it's fubar but last post questions it slightly. If you cannot get any life out of it in gparted send it back.

take russ18uk's advice, if that doesn't work, you'll just have to giveup and reformat it.

are they linux operating systems? Are you asking me to try and access the
device using a different? OS?
If so I'll wait till I'm in my programming class tomorrow and just boot the linux OS and see if it works.
Maybe ask my I.T teachers for assistance. But I think I knew I wasn't going to find a solution for this. I just can't afford to pay for postage costs at the moment. I've requested a returned warranty and I'll see what they ahve to say.
Sigh what a god awful day. @shakes tiny little micro SD card and yells [email protected]
(ironically I bought a Sandisk one beause they write the standards for MicroSD cards I believe haha, shot my self in the foot I wish I bought a kingston one now.)
@side note.. is this a picture of things to come? people come to me with computer problems and as a tech when i can't work things out i'll say ever cuss word under the sun in anger? lol i hope there's no customers around when i'm working XD maybe i should go get some anger management classes
Thanks to all who posted replies. Looks like I'll be sending the card back to the company I bought it from. poop!
Desperate/long shot here. I have a miniSD card that was used in my MotoQ9m years ago. This card may have some photos of our daughter (now deceased) and I want to know if any devs know of a program that will open this card in Win 7.
Thanks in advance, Keith

You don't need any program, if it's a mini SD card as long as you have the slot to plug it into your computer Win 7 will be able to read it like a USB.

Normally you don't need any special program, only a usb card reader (if you don't have a card reader already in your computer).
If your reader is for normal SD only, you can buy an adapter for it. It's cheap.
If you already tried this without luck, it means your card is probably corrupted.
There are specialized companies for that, where they can get data form the card even when the hardware itself is bad. That's a most expensive solution though... I just mention it first, because other methods can make the situation worst, removing even this possibility...
In the 90% of the cases you have data corruption, but otherwise the card is fine. Then you can try some software yourself:
The first is GetDataBack. It saved me at least 4 times in the last 10 years. It will try to reconstruct the whole filesystem. It won't write the sdcard, but in case of success you can copy your files to your computer easily.
It's not free, but you can try the free version, which can show you if it can find the files, the paid version needed only for the actual copying.
And there is PhotoRec.
It won't try to reconstruct the whole filesystem, but tries to find the files in the raw data. It can recognize more than 440 file formats, so it should find your images if there are any...
Good luck.
tr3w, the card being corrupted is my feeling. I have tried card in a few card readers on different computers all with the same result. I will try your suggestions. Thanks, Keith
Hi... not sure if this is the correct area to post this, sorry if it isn't. Looking for some insight on some SD CARD issues.... been on Google all day with no luck. Here's my situation:
Recently bought an Asus HD Pad tablet. I read that the max card it'll hold is 32 GB but also read of people that have used 64 without a problem. Since that was something that I was able to do on my tab 2 I went ahead and bought a Kingston 64 GB SDXC. Before formatting to Fat32 I just placed it in and it was recognized just fine, with the full storage amount available and everything. Yesterday I started putting some movies on it but even though the files transfered fine once I went to the tablet they were there but the movies wouldn't run, like if the files were corrupted. From there I assumed I was not gonna dodge the format to Fat32 so I went ahead and did it...I transfered 3 out of 5 movies fine but when trying to add the other two I would gt the error saying that the properties of the file couldn't be transfered. I read up a bit and learned that FAT32 is a bit more limited as far as transferring certain properties from files than NTFS. So I formatted to NTFS. Put all 5 movies and they worked just fine. After this I decided to transfer about 8 gigs of music and some pictures.... they apparently transfered fine but when I go on the tablet and access the music and pictures folders it says NO FILES Are in them. I go to storage info and it does reflect that the 8+ gigs on music and pics are beige used but the file explorer show the folders empty... the movies are still there. If I try to delete the folders from the tablet I get an error that it can't be deleted or permission denied (depending on which file explorer I use). If I connect back to the PC and click the folders I get an error saying the folder is corrupted and can't delete them either. I'm getting the feeling that the SD card was not working flawlessly from the get go but would sure appreciate any input, suggestions, ideas, etc... also wondering if it might be because the SD card size is too big for the tablet.
Thank you and sorry about the long post!

This issue you're having is definitely because of the size of the SD card. Most devices are not made to accept such a large one, and I bet you anything that if you get a 32g SD card, it'll work perfectly.

Yeah that's what I thought so.... question.... you think there might be a way to "shrink" those 64 Gb down to 32, so that the tablet thinks it's a 32?? just to test if that takes care of the problem before buying another SD?
thanks

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, there is!
I don't remember exactly how to do it, but I know this much - first, you need to put the empty SD card into your device. Then, boot into ClockworkMod. Navigate to the Advanced submenu. This is where my memory gets a little fuzzy, but I think there is a "Repartition SD card" option or something like that inside that submenu that, when used properly, can be used to completely resize an SD card.
I did this a good while ago, so that's why I don't remember that well, but hopefully it will work for you.
