Gmail Java .jad - General Questions and Answers

I went to gmail.com to get their gmail.jad file to put on my phone. It runs with Java, but the text is too large. I have a Verizon xv6800. I went to "Smallest Text" in the options but it seems too large. I wonder if gmail only offers that jad for certain phones.
Is there a better gmail app for PPCs?

Importing pop3/mail settings for the habitual flasher

I have searched low and high for the answer to this but cannot seem to find it anywhere.
Is there anything similar to the Cabs for WiFi or even a registry template for quickly importing mail setting after a flash/hardreset? Using Sashimi for instance?
Sorry if this is not directly ROM related, but I suppose it is when you want to quickly get all your emails set up having done a flash/hardreset.
Thanks in advance to any who can help?
You can do this with User Customization in a provisions.xml.
I havent even been able to get my phone to download my mail directly to the phone. I have to use IE to go to hotmail. Which programs are out there so I can enter my name and password and the email is delivered directly to the phone without active sync?!!?
The standard "messages" utility built into the phone seems to do it for me. You set up an account as a pop3 or imap and its just like setting one up in outlook express...

hello, i used tiermanns Personal OEMizer find it here http://tiermann.net/index.php?optio...d=3:personal-oemizer&catid=1:Desktop&Itemid=3 i used it to create my provisioning XML.
i then used the task manager provided with sashimi and bam, it worked, or you can use uc.

Right, but when i go to add an account after I enter my user name and password it says "select link below to access windows live hotmail account" and has a link that uses IE to get mail. I had it before where i entered my info and it downloaded it for me automatically.

Perhaps that's because hotmail doesn't support POP3. Maybe you should use an email account that actually supports the protocol that you are using. It isn't the program's fault....it's hotmail's.

Previously hotmail did work on the phone with just a regular POP account.

Hmm...perhaps I am mistaken then. I know a long time ago they allowed POP3 access through Outlook Express only, then eventually dropped that support. I specifically starting using Gmail because it allowed POP3 (and now IMAP) support and was under the impression that hotmail and yahoo didn't with out their pay services.....but I guess that could've changed in the last several years, so I'm sorry if my previous comment was misleading....that was just the way I understood it to be.

I will be releasing a new app this weekend with the latest SASHIMI release called Makisu.
It runs on your device and will create provisioning XMLs for e-mail and wireless settings. You can then import these directly from the app, or during your SASHIMI setups.
Keep your eyes open for it.
Another option is to take a look at spb backup 2. It costs a few bucks but it restores all of the settings for all mail accounts. It even puts all the mail back in your mailboxes. I sync with two exchange servers and two pop3 accounts so its vital for me to get my mail back up anf running as quickly as possible.
With the new rom upgrade mode it works flawlessly between different rom versions.
I have alson found it handy in custom mode to bakup themes and ringtones for easy flawless swaps.
Then I use bengalihs version of tiermans tierautoinstall for my cabs.
Just my 2 cents
@iceman4357
If you use vista, you might be able to setup hotmail on you computer to download to a windows live mail account and then use emoze desktop version to sync it to you phone. I am fairly sure since the release of windows live mail on vista, hotmail will no longer work with a regular pop3. They did this to get people to use live mail. I know a few people that still have hotmail accounts. I will do some diggin and see if there is a better solution.

rjcb23,
Yeah, you should definitely check this out! I actually just used SASHIMI last night (even without Makisu) and it perfectly provisioned my email account. I used the following link for documentation - in post 3 under "EMAIL2 CSPs" he shows the layout and links to Microsoft documentation as well as a GUID generator.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
Bengalih's SASHIMI is now my third favorite sashimi (it's really hard to beat hamachi and toro). If you are a habitual flasher you owe it to yourself to give SASHIMI a serious look.

Yeah, actually Makisu is basically going to create the XMLs that SASHIMI imports (or really Makisu can do it stand-alone). It creates the XML files with user inputted information, and even generates the GUID.
I think there are some similar things out there, but this is the only one I know of that will run on the device itself, and do the whole thing.

How to create start menu item for Java program? (i.e. Gmail client?)

I think I've searched the forum pretty well, but i still can't find out how to add a start menu item to my HTC Fuze (Touch pro) gmail client (which is a java app). I've seen in other threads how to set up gmail with the native email client on the phone, but i'd like ot use the actual java gmail client without having to navigate from start menu -> java -> gmail. how do i do this?
also, how do i set the client so it's signed? it always asks me for permission to access the internet when i want to refresh or send a message. how can i sign gmail so it doesnt ask this?
thanks!
first of you ned to uninstall gmail from your midlet manager and then goto its directory and then into the appdb subdir and note the LAST "suite" file (they have a number after them) and then reinstall gmail and then go back to the appdb folder and note the NEW suite file made and then make a duplicate of any lnk in the start menu and then go into its properties and change the location to this
"Storage Card\Program Files\JBed3dMod\Jbed.exe" -run s69_"
of course adjust the above path to MATCH your midlet managers location AND THE SUITE NUMBER
any problems pm me as i will probably forget i posted here
Where can I find the midlet mannager?I installed some java apps and I don't know how to access them again!

Well, most would likely has the word Java in the Start->Program. If you use cooked rom, it might be moved to other folder in Start->Program.
Great thanks! Just FYI to other readers: since gmail was the first midlet i installed (and i'm running ROMEOS latest which starts out with no midlets installed) then in the \windows\appdb folder there was only one suite file set to choose from (a bunch of files all starting with s1_). Thus, I created a link in the "\windows\start menu" folder with following line in the properties (including the quotation marks)
"\Windows\jbed.exe" -run appdb\s1_"
It worked! now when i click this item in the start menu, it brings up gmail. If only i could change the icon...
What about the signing problem? Whenever I refresh Gmail's inbox or try to send an email, it asks me if i'm okay with it being "untrusted". I've found other posts that explained how to use the native email client with Gmail, but I'd like to get the java gmail client to work without the repetitive questioning. How can we tell the phone to let the Gmail midlet do what it wants? (i know i know...i'll go read the wiki

Here's how to deal with the 'trust' issue with Gmail in Java from an article on pdaphonehome.com regarding the Opera Mini midlet. This works the same for the Gmail app.
Skipping the Connection Permission Prompt (Only applies to JBed)
One of the only negatives of using Jbed, over Jeodek, used to be that any time an application wanted to access to the Internet, Jbed would ask twice if you want to allow the action. It will also forget this permission next time you ran the application, so you would have to give permission every time you ran a Midlet that tried to access the Internet. Thanks to forum user g-funkster, a work around for this annoyance has been found!
1.) Copy the file \windows\appdb\selector.utf to your PC (make sure backup this file first in case something goes wrong!)
2.) Remove read-only attribute
3.) Open the file with a hex editor, and find the line
Code:
domain=untrusted, \
Replace the text untrusted with the text tckmax. Add space characters between the x (in tckmax) and the comma (otherwise connection warnings or a nullpointerexception error may occur). The above line may appear multiple times in the "selector.utf" file, each corresponds to a different Java Midlet you have installed in JBed.
Code:
domain=tckmax , \
If hex editing is too blackhat for you, g-funkster has created a desktop application that can do this for you automatically! You can find it here.

I used Notepad++ to edit the file and it worked perfectly.

I need a few fuze fixes

I have tried to look through but there are alot of posts and don't know how exactly to look this up but I need to know how to fix something with my internet. I have yahoo mail and don't use the xpressmail with at&t. I try to go to my normal mail.yahoo.com and it goes to the mobile version. I hate mobile versions of the websites. The yahoo version won't let you do anything other than text. No attachments or anything.
I need to just view full webpages. How do I change the settings to view them only? (saw something on at&t website but don't understand it and some people said it didn't work)
Second, I need to know how to allow for just the swirl zoom and not the tap zoom. When I open and it goes to landscape it gets rid of the swirl zoom on the internet and will only use the tap way to zoom. I don't like that way. I prefer the zoom by the d pad.
Third, If I am looking at playing alot of video and going to start getting some games on my fuze and wanted to know if I should change my display settings to something else that will make it look better. I remember on my last one(yes I had to replace one) somehow I got to display settings and they had options to change to xvga, vga, etc. Isn't Vga the best or is it set at the best as the default. Granted it looks good the way it is but I want the best for when I start doing video. And how do I get to it? I was looking around for it and can't find it anywhere now.
Also I was looking on what gps program to get. I was looking at the tomtom and was wondering what people thought of it. And what version would I need to get? Would you recommend a different one like garmin?
Sorry if these are double posts.
70 views and no answers and already to the 3rd page. Can anyone help me on this? No one on the at&t have replied and no one has here either.
Please help me, I'm having issues and need them fixed right away.

1) i don't think you'll be able to view it. It's the same with gmail, that's why they provide mobile version of gmail as well.
2) it shouldn't do that. what rom are you using?
3) the default setting should be optimal. i'm not sure why you'd want to play with the video setting. (i could be totally wrong on this one)
4) do a search on the forum, i'm sure garmin vs tomtom has been discussed in other threads. if you can find the # of people who have viewed this post, i'm sure you know your way around searching on the internet. good luck

1. Go to the Opera configuration page (replace "http://<whatever>" with "opera:config" -- without the quotes). Scroll down to "Proxy" and open that section by clicking on it. Make sure that the entries for "HTTP Server" and "HTTPS server" are empty and hit "Save" at the bottom of the section. Then scroll down to "User Agent," open that, set "Spoof UserAgent ID" to 3, and hit "Save." Finally, scroll down to "User Prefs," open it, set "Custom User-Agent" to "Mozilla/4.0(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0; en)" (again, without the quotes), and save it. That may be overkill; someone posted, for instance, that you get the same results by simply deleting the Custom User-Agent string instead of setting it to the value above. I haven't tried that. All I can say is that this combination of settings shows me the full web pages for all the sites I normally visit. YMMV.
2. No clue.
3. The display on the Fuze is 640x480 pixels, otherwise known as VGA resolution. A video encoded for VGA resolution will have the maximum sharpness of which the Fuze is capable. It may not be the best viewing experience, though, depending on what you are using on the Fuze to play the video and how it was encoded (the codec used, frame rate, etc.) -- you may experience performance problems such as "tearing," dropped frames, stuttering, etc. There's a lot of discussion currently about what's the best encoding for the Fuze, better drivers, the best player and settings therefor, etc. It's not a settled question nor an exact science. (I don't know what you mean by "How do I get to it?")
4. I use a free over-the-air turn-by-turn navigation service from amazegps.com. I think it does an excellent job for my needs. If you want to buy one, though, you should definitely consider OnCourse Navigator 8 (OCN8). I haven't used it, but the reviews I've seen are very enthusiastic.

I don't use Yahoo mail, but I see the normal HTML view of Gmail -- not the mobile version -- in Opera, using the settings I gave in the preceding message.
Try accessing your email from The Skyfire browser until someone outlines a full fox for you..
You can try using messaging/pocket outlook
You can also add Yahoo! Mail to messaging/pocket outlook, I have 4 accounts set up in pocket outlook/messaging GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail and my works exchange mail. I would suggest setting these up with imap settings over pop3 settings.
GMail has instructions for this pretty much step my step. Yahoo! doesn't officially support imap on wm devices but i am using an imap server settings. Its a little tricky to get set up because WM likes to grab settings for pop3 first. You can by pass this by putting in a different domain [email protected], [email protected] and then proceed to manually set up the accounts. If you have OCD then you can fix the email address after you have finished setting it up in pocket outlook/messaging.
GMail
incoming mail server (imap)
imap.gmail.com
user name is your full email address.
outgoing mail server
smtp.gmail.com
check box outgoing server requires authentication
check box use same user name and password
Advanced settings(link on page where you put in outgoing mail server info)
check box require ssl for incoming
check box require ssl for outgoing
Yahoo!
incoming mail server (imap)
imap.next.mail.yahoo.com (it works!)
user name is your yahoo login name (ex abc)
outgoing mail server
smtp.mail.yahoo.com
check box outgoing server requires authentication
check box use same user name and password
Advanced settings(link on page where you put in outgoing mail server info)
check box require ssl for incoming
check box require ssl for outgoing
For Hotmail to work you have to install a cab (for stock Fuze rom)otherwise it will direct you to a web based version.
Setting the accounts up in messaging will also allow you to preview messages in the TF3d email tab.

I tried this and it still comes up on opera as the mobile version. So Wish I knew how to fix this. Now media net isn't my homepage. And media net won't even show up. Still need a fix then. I may have to just use xpressmail if I can't find a fix.
Can anyone tell me what the default settings are so I can go back to the way it was. Until there is a fix that works.

Sorry; it's been a couple of weeks since I did this so I had forgotten that it disabled MEdia net. (Personally I couldn't care less about MEdia net, so it was no loss at all for me to exchange that for seeing full web sites; that's why I forgot about it.) I don't know why your web site still comes up as the mobile version; as I said, this does the trick for all the sites I use.
well, Is there any way to get the settings back, cause it didn't fix the issue and want to go back then. I want to keep medianet. i may have to do express mail after all, since no one knows how to fix it for atleast yahoo mail.
I've just spent a few minutes searching through the forum and can't find the post that I remember where someone gave the original settings for those configuration items; maybe it was on some other board. In any event, the best I can suggest is that if no one tells you what the original settings were, you can make a backup using Sprite backup; hard reset the device; go to opera:config and write down the original settings; restore the backup; and then change the settings to what you wrote down from the fresh boot.
I found the post I was thinking of over on the AT&T forum. That only addresses the proxy server names, but I think that may be all you need to get back to MEdia Net. HTH.
Than fixed it but wish I could figure out what is the problem with yahoo mail and how to fix the whole mobile website thing.
I had the same issue with the zoom wheel. Not sure if this is what fixed it but, in Opera goto Settings - Dispaly. Check Auto Full Screen, Show Images & Block Pop-ups. Uncheck Mobile view.
Has been working correctly since.

This is in the "Settings" choice on the menu you get when you hit the button at the lower right of the screen and then hit the "menu" icon (the one furthest to the right at the bottom of the screen).
I just tried that too.The menu-display. the mobile view isn't checked and I still get the mobile view of the darn yahoo mail. Still don't know how to fix it and I believe paypal is the same.
Yeah, the "mobile display" option controls how Opera sizes and formats pages; it doesn't affect which page (mobile or regular) is being accessed. I don't know how Yahoo mail, etc., are detecting the Fuze as a mobile device; the user agent and proxy fixes take care of many/most pages, but there's obviously something else.

Is this dns legit (imap.next.mail.yahoo.com). it seems like a phishing url.

[Q] When I open email attachments they always get saved.

I was just playing around with ES File Explorer, trying to learn what it does, and I discovered that all the email attachments that I've opened during the past few days (.doc,.pdf,.pps) were actually saved to my G tab.
I'd rather than didn't happen.....is that a feature that I can turn off somewhere?
(I couldn't find anything under the different menus for mail or browser.)
You could try a third part e-mail client, such as Enhanced Email which seems to have a good rating in the market.
I use the Yahoo Mail app.
Does anyone know if I can view attachments to my email, without having to download them to my G tab?

Synchronize call log with Outlook Journal

Hi all,
I have searched for this application for a long time and tried whole bunch of them, but I am still looking for SOLID, SIMPLE, and STRAIGHTFORWARD application to save Call log entries into Outlook Journal.
My setup:
Windows 7 32-bit
Outlook 2007 SP2
HD2 with latest T-Mo ROM and Cookie Home Tab installed.
Applications I tried:
Maniac's SmartJournal - so far the best solution and worked flawlessly on the XP. Since I switched to Windows 7 it shows that the SmartJournal reads from the device, the notification disappears and nothing happens. Maniac's website is down, so I cannot find out what is going on.
Pocket Informant Outlook Extension - since it is now free as Informant stopped supporting Windows Mobile, I tried it, it seems that it works and does some synchronizing according to the log, but no entry shows up the Journal.
Jeyo Outlook Extension - they used to support Outlook Journal in their version for Symbian, but in their Windows Mobile they only synchronize SMS.
MobiTNT - I tried that software as well, but I am not able to enable the software on the computer.
I know that there is also some app for syncing call log into calendar but it seems way too akward.
I know that there are many threads about this all over the Xda, but they seem to be old for one and do not end up with comprehensive solution afterall.
I would like to this post to become comprehensive and one stop solution for somebody who is looking for the solution like me.
Any ideas are welcome.
Nobody? Really? Really?
I Feel your pain
I used to use Calls to Journal from Chapura with my windows handheld. Strangely it is now discontinued.
It was slick, and perfect. Dumped all calls to Outlook journal and tagged the outlook contacts (so that they showed up in activites). Was perfect in my business when someone denied that you called them.
I can't find anything that compares. Not even close. The other ones like "missing sync" try to do too much and do not include this very simple functionality.
Have you had any luck?
Well, I finally managed to make the Maniac's Smartjournal work and it works great. It transfers the calls into Journal and tags for the known Contacts so it shows in Activities.
If you would like to try it, I have the .exe files since the website is no longer active. The files are really small and the program is no memory hog by any means. I tried Jeyo and it just crashes Outlook.
Let me know.
Another one
I wish i could be more helpful but there is one applicatoin which i have used in the past but have since forgotten the name whichvery simply adds an appointment into outlook which lasts for the duration of the call, with the title of whoever the conversation was with.
this might be the one i was thinking of. I'm gonna check it now.

post the files please & details you have on them & any special instructions on getting it working.
One of the biggest mistakes MS made was not having WM & its PC software linking together with complete harmony & user control.
Really are a clueless bunch at redmond HQ ...
I am attaching the rar file. There are two files. One is SmartJournal.exe and the other is SmartJournal Beta.exe Try first the SmartJournal.exe run as admin and compatibility with XP SP2. Sometimes it shows the error that the CallLog.csv cannot be dumped. If that is the case, uninstall the SmartJournal and install the Beta (again as administrator and compatibility mode XP SP2). Maniac had a great forum unfortunatelly that website is no longer active.
Let me know if you have any trouble.
Take 2
I just realised my previous post was totally useless since I never included the link. I've been using Call Calendar for the past few days which works really well, recording the time, duration, who the call was with and who called who silently into outlook, which will then obviously sync over activesync or exchange. you can get it here:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-call-calendar.html
then again while searching for that link i found this program, Phonelog- it's newer and seems to have additional features like recording incoming SMS. I think you can customise what is recorded too, it might be worth a shot:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-phonelog.html
I've never used Outlook journal, so I don't know how much functionality you lose as a result of these being purely appointments. Hope it oculd be useful though.
Thanks for the post and link. I prefere not to use the calendar for syncing, because than the entries eat up the screen when I view my calendar appointments. Also, I always felt siunce the Journal has a Phone log category it is more obvious to use it rather than calendar. Also, I make LOT of calls on given days and then my calendar looks like mess between the actual appointments and the phone call. Also, I checked the review section on freeware.com and lot of people complain about the SMS not working (which would be the only feature why I would consider this software). But great addition to the post and thanks for the links.

You can try MobileArchiver (mobilearchiving.com) - for me works perfectly and puts all call history in journal every sync.

If the call history is full, I mean 300 items, there is a great chance that the PC app tries to read the calllogdump.csv on the pda while it is already accessed by the pda (it is written) and therefore paralell reading fails.
Solution: backup call log, and after that, delete some 50-100 entries manually. Sync works then nicely...

Another possible solution is to run Smartjournal.exe on pc, it copies the dump exe to Device\Temp, and runs, and this creates the csv. Navigate to this folder (My Device\Temp) and make the csv read only.
Running the pc side returns an error on the PDA, but the log will be read and data transferred.
Now remove read only from csv, move to pc, leave only the last entry, delete all the rest, save, move back to PDA.
Run pc side, all should be good now. You will have a lastsync.txt created in the PC folder of Smartsync. Sync finished.
Update:
--------------------------------------
Mobitnt PocketExport does the job for some days, no errors, I think I keep using this app
