Treo 750 Battery problems/questions - Palm Treo 750

Hi all:
I have a Treo 750, Cingular branded and unlocked by using methods on this site.
Recenty I got a car charger for it, plugged it in, and something went wrong. The charger smelled burned, so I unplugged it.
Since then, I cannot charge the battery using the Treo 750 AC wall charger. The charge light does not come on and, even if left over a day, the battery does not charge. I have 3 chargers, and the same thing happens with all of them.
I tried putting the 750 battery into my Treo 650, to see if it would charge there. It does charge, but the 650 charge light does not come on.
I tried putting the 650 battery in the 750, and it works, but it shows 0% for battery life. It does not charge in the 750 either.
I've been getting by with charging the 750 battery in the 650, and using the 650 battery while the other one charges. That has worked OK, but the 750 does not know the 650 battery state, so it will shut down with no notice!
So, does anyone have any ideas?
Should the 650 battery work and charge in the 750?
Should the 750 battery work and charge in the 650?
Does anyone have the pinouts for the 750 and/or 650 battery?
Is my 750 doomed to never charge again?
And, I'm sure I'm hoping for the impossible, but is there a fuse in the 750 charging circuit?
Thanks!

Atom not charging with car charger (lighter to USB)!

My new Atom won't charge with the lighter plug to USB that I have in my car (it came with my Hollux GPS unit). Has anybody else had that problem? I think it gets some power, but not enough. I put it in with about 25-30 % capacity and started navigating with TomTom. TomTom warns if there is no power, and the unit behaved like it was on power, but the orange charging LED wasn't working. An hour or so later the message came up that the unit was shutting down because it didn't have enough power to go on, and I could then see that it had to be around the last 5-10 % of the batter. WTF? Then, when the Atom had shut down, the orange charging light came on, and half an hour later the battery was charged up to around 30 % when I turned it on. It lost the charging LED again when I turned it on to check, but by then I was home. Has anybody else seen this problem?
Edit: This may be the Hollux stuff that's giving me problems. It won't charge with the 220 Volt charger that came with it either, so the voltage is probably too low. Weird, since I can charge both from any PC with an USB port, and the charger that came with the Atom has the same rating, 5 W 1 amp, as the one that came with the GPS.

It is charging thru USB! Or is it?

Hi there
Even before I bought my Treo, I knew it wouldn't charge through USB. Since I didn't want to fiddle with the power cable at the same time as I was syncing, I only connected via USB for as long as it takes to sync and then disconnected again.
But today, I forgot to disconnect for quite a while. When I noticed, I expected the battery to be down, but it was back at 100%!! I will test this a bit more, but has anybody else noticed this? Or is the battery meter confused?
Cheers

I read in another thread somewhere that the USB sync cable has a bit of trickle charge to maintain the battery level but not fully charge it. It would obviously be great if it does charge the phone, then I don't have to go out and buy a USB sync/charge cable. (Don't like lugging around the charger).

Thanks for your feedback!
My observations today are that it really is charging - slowly but surely! I might get the 650 cable mentioned in Jason's blog. Thanks for link!

I got a combined sync & charging cable from gpsforless - works a treat
Well after reading this post i tried and test my 750v for a whole day. My observation is that yes it does charge but very slow. When i connected my Palm battery was at 82% and even after playing and hacking my palm whole day battery was still at 82%, which mean it does work.

use USB for rechage?

i don't have charger .can i use USB for it?thank you
With WM6, yes, it works.
With WM5, no...

Some guy in a different forum said that his 750 charged even with WM5. He said that you didnt hear the charging soud nor did you see the charging battery icon but that his charge gradualy went up. I havent noticed this myself though....
I can confirm that my WM5 750v does charge using the USB sync cable. No noise, no charging light, but it does charge.
Works on my WM6 ROM.
it doesn't ,because i put it on charger all night, battery 30%!
mat gues is that USB cable give it enough power not to discharge while conected but not to charge so if ur treo is inactive while on usb cable it will charge slowly
but if e-mail get deliwered over GPRS/EDGE etc, Alarms going off incoming text meseges coming and other things that force device to activate it will not charge.
maybe turning off Phone bit of treo (holding red button) will help charging through USB !!
P.S am not shure about these its just my idea !!!!
Yes, have to admit it is slow.
On WM5 I have seen my Treo charge on USB when connected to some computers but not others. On WM6 it works on all of my computers.
Don't some USB hosts have an optional higher voltage line, but not all do? Maybe WM5 requires the higher voltage, but WM6 works on either?
I don't really know what I'm talking about (yet) but I know I did see my Treo750 charge on USB on WM5 in some cases.
Tried this for myself. WM5 ATT Treo 750. Plugged it in to USB with a 75% charge. Phone off and active sync turned off. 100% charged in the morning although there were no indicators that it was charging.
Windows XP (SP2) desktop computer. USB 2.0
If it's like every other HTC device made in the last 10 years, there's no reason it shouldn't charge via USB, albeit slowly

Charging current

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to charge my Tornado (Qtek 8310) with a 450 mA charger? Will the battery be charged or will nothing happen?
Thanks in advance!

Read this and decide. My guess is that depending on the current charge on the battery, the charger may drain it completely instead of charging it. As before, my advise remains to not screw around with chargers that are not designed for the phone. Brand new chargers are five bucks plus shipping on eBay.
Well, I have my original charger (or it is the charger of my PDA, i'm not sure anymore ), but when I travel, I can't charge my phone or PDA. Then I will charge my phone with a battery operated charger, but the cheap one I can get loads 450 mA and I'm wondering if that will be enougt to charge the batt.
I don't think I will brick the battery, since I bought a solar charger and used a lot of different USB chargers.
I just looked at my original charger: 5V @ 1A, so I dont know if the batt will charge with 0,45 A, but I'm sure it will keep intact.
I've charged with a Motorola charger (5V 550mA) and it does work, just as you can charge via USB. However, it won't work if you run your battery completely flat (won't even turn on). In that state, you need to use the original charger to get it going.

How to charge a brick Treo??

I have a treo 750 that hangs up on the windows mobile screen after i tried to Hard SPL my phone. now im trying to flash wm6 back on but my battery is dead and cant get it to charge on from the AC or computer..is there a way to get it to charge??
Interesting problem. Wasn't aware that bricking the phone would disable charging circuitry.
That being the case, have you thought about buying an external charger for the battery? Something like this is pretty cheap and would do the job I would think.
