Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can help.. I have a HTC Touch Pro and have email setup to come straight through to my phone... i can send and recieve emails fine but once i've recieved them and they're in my inbox... after a while they automatically delete themselves..
Does anyone know if there is a setting somewhere which allows you to have the option of keeping the mail in the inbox until you delete it yourself?

Does it actually delete from your email account or just not show up on the phone? I think it only looks at recent emails, that's why they disappear.
Nah it doesn't delete them from my email account it just doesnt show up on the phone.. but sometimes when im out and busy and get an email i leave it to reply for a while but it has gone from the phone...

Mine works fine with POP3 configuration. Do you use IMAP?
How many days did you select in the email settings? You can select 3, 7, and unlimited I believe...
The TP will only show the messages based on the above selection...
I'm actually using POP3 aswel..
and joeltje, in "Download Messages" I have "All Messages" selected.
The emails i send stay in the 'sent' folder until i delete them.. i would just like the recieved messages to stay in the inbox until i delete them..

How big is the total amount of messages? Maybe your memory ran out?
I know I can't get my whole inbox on this phone, it simply won't fit
do you only use your phone to get your emails?
if you use another program such as outlook or outlook express, then the emails will be removed from your server and placed in your local inbox on your PC (if you have this setting enabled). Then when your phone syncs with the server, since the emails have been removed, they are removed from your phone.
Re above: Certainly that was what was happening to me. I download emails separately into the phone whilst out and about but had the 'remove from server' option enabled in outlook. Therefore as soon as I opened outlook on the pc they all vanished from the phone - look in account settings and disable this option. You then keep both local copies. This option also exists in the Touch Pro email account settings, if enabled then any emails deleted from your phone will not appear in outlook later!

Are you guys using gmail by any chance? If so, you need to make sure that pop3 is enabled for all messages, otherwise they will be erased off your device if they've been read.

Mine dont....and Im set up as imap
I'd like to know a solution to this too. My Pro seems to retrieve the latest messages and delete older ones from my inbox.
Is there any setting misconfig here. I set mine to 7 days.
Now I have seen the setting but now that I read this thread I cand find it. It has to do with Active sync.
There is option to clean mail box on active sync or WDM I f I find it I will update it.
If anyone is having this problem with gmail, type in "recent:" before your gmail username in the settings and it will go away. The only side effect is that your sent messages go to your inbox too. Not the perfect solution, but better than not seeing any messages at all.
what is the email account? sounds like you're using pop.

No sorry i did not solve the problem..im playing around with it to see if its something in the settings but no having any luck as yet...
Its hard for me to find a solution because sometimes it works fine sometimes it doesnt..
Hey all.
I love myself so much that I would love to see my face near the "Me" mention within SMS threads.
However, while all my contacts have their own contact icon showing up near their names, I only get to have a grey square near the "Me" mention when I send SMSs (check screenshot above).
Anyone knows how to fix this ?

I'd like to know this too. I have my google profile set up with some info including a pic. The google calendar does seem to pick up my bday from there, but the Messaging app don't appear to be using my picture on my nexus s.
I've tried to do this too on my Hero to no avail.

Go in your Contacts and find the first contact card named Me. Then just insert your own photo by clicking the box and selecting it, you are done.

There is no "Me" entry in my contact list.

Do it manually then by going to your SMS thread and clicking "Me" and by adding yourself via New Contact. Then put whatever you want in data input and click on the User Avatar and pick your photo.
You need to ensure your mobile number is attached to the contact.

Do you have a contact created with YOUR mobile phone number attached to it?
You may also need to ensure that "My Phone Number" in about -> phone shows your number (search for a guide if you need it).

Yes, I do have a contact with my phone number attached to it.
However, I'm not able to change the "My phone number" setting in the "About" menu.

Guys - this is in other threads - you need to assign your phone number on your SIM. You CANNOT do this form the NS. So - find some old phone, plug your SIM in and write the phone number to it - then when you use it back in the NS you'll get your picture...

How do I do this ?
Just inserted my SIM card in an iPhone, and I cannot edit the "My number" entry.
As the chap above said this is discussed elsewhere. Sony erricson phones will let you do it.
OK I worked around the issue in this way:
From my gmail (on a computer), I created a contact for myself. I added my phone number, and my gmail account as the email. Then for the picture, the contact manager let me use "their picture". In this case, "their picture" is the picture I assigned to myself in my google account profile.
This really isn't a "solution", just a workaround. You also really shouldn't have to use 2 phones to sync your own google account profile to your own "pure google experience" phone. Android should automatically have a contact that syncs your google profile info, so you don't have to type it in twice. Right now only the profile pic is auto-sync'd.

Which part isn't working? The part you do on your computer (setting picture as "use theirs"), or the sync to your phone?
Hi,
When I'm flashing new ROMs I'm using the contacts import/export function.
The problem is - after import(after I'm done flashing) the default numbers are gone... i.e if I have a several numbers for my wife(cell,home etc) and I set the default to cell, when I'm using the swipe right on her name in the contact list it calls my house and not her cell phone(when before flashing it would all her cell).
I did a little research in the past and it seems the vcf file do holds what number you set as default(the research was - export the contact list,then change the default for one contact and export again and compare the vcf files - they were different,and the difference wasn't only the time-stamp )
anyone else have this problem??

I used to do the vcf files thing, although I never noticed that problem.
But nowi just use google backup.
Much easier and convenient, in my opinion.

I don't like this option because when I sync google contacts it brings all the contacts from gmail which basically every email address I ever sent a mail to - and then it ends up in more than 700 contacts...so every time I flash I immediately set sync off for contacts

Just set google to only display contacts with phone numbers. Contacts>display options>only contacts with phone numbers. Seriously a much easier way to go.

yeah I know I can do that...I prefer not to...I guess I'm a bit fanatical about my privacy so I prefer to keep my contacts with me and not on the web

thats not what I meant - I meant I don't want google to know(or maybe not to give them an easy way cause I suspect they probably know what they want anyhow ;-) ) about my personal contacts which I have on my phone.

Just got my Galaxy S6 yesterday and not sure if I am not just used to the changes in lollipop or if the changes are really that bad!
What happened to the organization of the old email app?
This may be the wrong thread and if so, please point me in the right direction.
I get a lot of spam at work, and sometimes it is easier to click on the date ticker, which selects all of the emails for that day and I can mark them as read or delete them.
Now it is just one huge stream of emails with no way to pick multiple emails at once to delete or mark as read.
Am I just missing something?
Is there anyway to select multiple emails or do I really have to go through each email individually?
And , if this functionality is not available, can anyone recommend a good email app where I can select multiple emails at once, particularly by date? Otherwise the app is pretty much useless to me.
I have an out of the box Sprint Samsung Galaxy s6 that is unrooted.

Been using the Gmail app for my Google and external accounts. No issues whatsoever. Stopped using the Galaxy email app built in since the S5 version started acting funky with read mails randomly becoming unread.

I use Kaiten.
I tried gmail briefly after I got my S6 but it's awful by comparison. I don't know how people use such a limited app for email.

It definitely does. You press and hold one mail and the colours kind of go grayish. Then go tapping on multiple mails to select them. From here you can perform various actions like mark as read, delete etc.

That is not the what I am looking for. With the KitKat stock email, you can pick the date...say Weds April 22. You click the box next to that date and every email on that date is selected. You are suggesting that I click each indvidual email which is exaclty what I don't want to do.
Any other suggestions?
Kaiten does not have that either.
That's an interesting filter/option. Not something I've needed before.

Yes...they all are the pretty much the same and don't do the things that the email app did before.

Mike, I use the email exactly as you do. I'd click on a day and the app would check all of the emails . I'd then uncheck the ones I wanted to keep our read and then hit delete. This was magic. I'm lookin at all email apps. Have you found anything yet?

You can activate the select/multi-select option by holding your fingertip on the date bar. The selection boxes will slide in on the left side of the screen.

What date bar? I've held my fingertip all over the screen. Nothing slides in from anywhere.
Hi. All. I need also for the stock Samsung Galaxy S6 the button to select/mark All mail at one time.
In HTC Sense i didn't get this problem.
I was wondering if anyone found a solution yet. I am in same situation...nice new phone but painful to go through emails. I used to select all from he date...same as OP ..then just uncheck the five or so I wanted to keep. Now I have to check 80 boxes. Any new info would be appreciated.
Use the official outlook app or cloudmagic. Problems solved.

Neither outlook nor CloudMagic solves the stated problem. Looking for a way to force the reinstall of the email version i had on my S4--any ideas?

I know this is not what you were looking for but it might help someone looking for this...
to delete all emails you can long press on one email, until it is highlighted grey (or tick the box (to enable this box you can press the 3 dots and go to settings of that email and it is in there to enable tick box))
once you have one email highlighted, the top bar will turn orange and show the number of emails selected and the trash can etc...
if you tap on the number of emails selected (one at this point) there will be a drop down to say 'select all'...
I know it is not what OP wanted but I ended up here looking for this info so maybe someone else will too...

You came home them because they aren't there. That was something that Gmail used to do by default since Gingerbread, I believe, and HTC adopted that behavior into their mail app, but never removed it.

Could you suggest me a good alternative?
I have office 365 and Hotmail accounts.
Would be nice also to have signature formatting capabilities.

Microsoft Outlook has a email client, or the regular Gmail app. As far as a formatted signature...not sure.
