Hi,
I've got both a Fuze and a Diamond on AT&T, and both have the same problem. If WiFi is enabled, I get a constant stream of annoying popups and audible alerts as I drive down the street, letting me know about every Wi-Fi AP on my route, as if I cared. This is very annoying and I've struggled to make it stop.
I have gone into Settings, Sounds and Notifications, and disabled Wireless Network Notification MANY times. That works...until I reset. And the setting changes back on me!!! I reset every couple of days to keep the OS working smoothly, and so this @#[email protected] notification setting gets activated every time.
Please let me know if anyone else is having this problem, OR if you are NOT having this problem even with Wi-Fi on and moving around an urban area.
Please, tell me if there is a solution or registry hack. But please don't tell me to turn off Wi-Fi. Disabling a huge feature of the device isn't a solution. That's like a doctor cutting off my leg because of a sprained ankle.
FYI, the Diamond is stock HTC with tweaks from DiamonTweak, Advanced Config, and Diamond TF3D Config. The Fuze is running NATFs ROM with the same tweak tools.
Thanks.

I've had a similar problem. Have you tried going to: Settings > Connections (tab) > WiFi > Click on Menu > Advanced > Untick "Turn on available network notification" > Save ??
I had the same problem where the setting wouldn't stick on reset. I just wrote a one line MortScript that disables the wifi notification registry setting that runs when phone boots.

I'm not familiar with MortScript, but have you got a file or a method you can share here?

I had not tried that. But the box was checked. I have now unchecked it and performed a reset, and as before, the wifi notifications returned. Good idea, but no fix.

Go to http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=page&entry=ms_overview&action=view&menu=29
Download and install MortScript 4.1.
Using notepad or similar text editor, create a file containing the following line:
RegWriteDWord( "HKCU", "ControlPanel\Notifications\{DDBD3B44-80B0-4b24-9DC4-839FEA6E559E}", "Options", 0);
Save the file with an extension of .mscr (e.x. "DisableWiFiNotification.mscr").
Copy the file to your phone.
Finally create a shortcut to the file into the \\Windows\StartUp folder of your phone.
thanks
Great, thanks for the help ICWinner.
Similar to the problem above, I keep bluetooth on all the time and for some reason, the phone constantly has a notification which just says "Bluetooth is on". Does anyone know what the registry key is to disable this one? Or if there is a setting somewhere I am missing?
This May Be A Fix
Hi, I'm the OP, and it looks like I found a fix in another thread.
Check out what Chetstriker has posted at:

I will try it sometime this week, but some users have already confirmed it worked for them, so this may be it.

I have Windows Live Mobile installed so after a soft reset, the program automatically attempts to make a data connection. However, the data connection tab in the comm manager is set to off by default, so a connection can't be established.
Is there any way on the AT&T Fuze to set the data connection on by default?
Thanks....and yes I searched "data connection default" but didn't see anything related to this problem.
Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3 or Diamond Tweak 0.5.3 have an option to have data always ON. However, this will kill your battery in no time
thanks for your help. i have those programs, but i'll look them over again.
EDIT: i looked at both and don't see an option to always have a data connection enabled. under data, you can obviously enable various connections and i already have those set. but i don't see the option to always have the connection on.

Funny how I'm trying to do the opposite. For some reason my data turns on by itself. I turn it off and a few minutes later it turns itself on again. It's really a battery drainer.
If anybody knows how to change it so it will default to off, please post. Thanx.

Certain apps/functions will need data access depending on their polling settings. Email and weather, for example. I disabled the auto updates for those and am hoping to see the data connection stay OFF when I set it.
Hope this does the trick.
I had to configure a bogus network so the device wouldn't get anywhere even if it tried... because it would seemingly reactivate at will.
This took me a while, but I finally figured it out through trial and error. I know there are a few options out there for tethering, but this has always been the preferred way to tether when I was using the Diamond. It's wireless, you can initiate the connection from the PC, and it gives you better battery life than WMWiFiRouter or HTC Wifi Sharing. Best of all, you DO NOT need to initiate a DATA connection on the phone before connecting to your PC! Just fire up the BT DUN connection on your PC, click Dial, then browse the web!
Here's how we do this:
Install DotFred's TaskManager
Click select Menu, Tab Options, Select Tab, Services. Find "CM Guardian", click and hold until menu pop up and select "Set Manual".
Make the following changes on your TP2 with a Registry editor:
1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll"
2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint"
3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\Wmodem]
Check Profile=0
Connected=0
Multi-NAI=0
WModemDUN=0
4. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\DUNServ er\ControlPanel]
Enabled=1
That's it! Re-pair your TP2 to your PC and BT DUN should be available as one of the services. Create a new DUN profile on your PC, leave username and password blank, and set dial number as #777. Click dial and you should be able to connect... just like old times.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been ripping my hair out over this. However, I am on Verizon and thus my HTC Touch Pro2 has somewhat different entries in the registry than Sprint does. Does anyone know how to get DUN working with the HTC Touch Pro2 on Verizon? I bought a laptop specifically with Bluetooth just to use my phone as the modem but cannot get it working for my life.
After I did all the registry edits I could that you mentioned (even though all of them were not available since I'm on a different provider) I noticed when I try to dial out for a SPLIT second I will see "Dial Up Networking" listed under Bluetooth services. Windows promptly gives me a dialing error and that service on my phone disappears.
Anyone can give any pointers?
I don't have a Service called "CM Guardian". I have a custom ROM, would that make a difference?

Yes, some Rom chefs may have eliminated this service. I know MightyMike left it in his Rom, but I have not tested others on the TP2.

Would this service be in WM6.5? If I download MightyMike's ROM would it be in there or is it only in WM6.1?
Thanks for this.

MightyMike's Rom does indeed have CMGaurdian. I cannot speak for other TP2 Roms, but his does.
KD8FRE
Can anyone give any pointers on getting this to work on the Verizon version of the phone? Been searching high and low!
There is no "CMGaurdian" on my phone. I did a full search for it and it's nowhere to be found. I have the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 rom. But it looks like without being able to set that as manual, I have to change the registry everytime I end up having to restart my phone. But even when I do that, it still goes back to phone as modem after a few minutes instead of staying on Sprint.
Awesome!
Thanks for the info. The connection sharing wasn't working for me anyway.
Just an FYI, you can optionally edit the registery to set the CMGuardian to Manual.
Open a reg editor and navigate to [HKLM\Services\CMGuardian]
Locate the Index key and change the value from 2 (default) to 1.
So anyone on Sprint TP2 with 6.5 stock rom actually got Wmodem to work? I've spent about 24 hr trying just about everything with no luck so far.
I made all the above reg changes, have WModem v02 installed on my TP2. Activate the wmodem prog, connect to computer with usb cable. When i try to connect on my computer, it stucked on verifying user name and pass. There is some sort of data connection going on on the phone itself, but the computer connected to the phone couldn't seem to go pass that "verifying user name and pass"
Much appreciated any help or comment. Thanks
Just wanted to add that I found this thread useful, got the registry entries and made a cab for it. This is for Sprint only! Download, install, and go, no need for registry editing!
Problem tethering via Bluetooth DUN to pspgo
Ok, I am pulling MY hair out on my ATT tilt 2. I am trying to use my fone as a bluetooth modem for my pspgo.
It seems that my Tilt 2 receives the data from the pspgo, but its not sending any data to the pspgo, when I test the connection the tilt2 receives about 9-16 bytes, but it says sent: 0 bytes.
I have energyROM july 16 2010 WWE winmo 6.5
Manilla 2.5.20161332.0
Build: 23563.5.5.0
I have seen vids of people doing this on the Raphael (FUZE) and other phones
I keep getting this connection error on my psp: (8030000B) I have tried so many dial #'s, changing settings, PDAnet,
I think the problem has something to do with:
it being WinMo 6.5 or
The custom ROM has disabled something in the Bluetooth or
Since the ROM is custom, the psp wont recognize this for some reason because just like the WIFI router; the carrier doesn't know I'm tethering. or
I have the wrong Dial-up # or
Authentication settings or Initialization command is wrong or
I need to use a Proxy network
Some other reason ( The ROMS BT stack) whatever that is lol
Does anyone have this or similar problem? Or know whats happening here?
Any help would be awesome!
Thank you
Worked Perfectly
After making the changes you suggested, this worked perfectly on my TP2. It's so funny, after I initially got my TP2 and tried it, I instantly gave up. Now that I'm a month away from going to a new carrier, and most likely a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, I got really interested in getting this working. It was a breeze using the Resco Explorer Demo with included Registry Editor.
TP2 Stock WM6.5
Doesnt work for me. I dont have CMGuardian.
I went ahead and edited the registry anyway and still didnt work even after rebooting.
I'm hoping someone can help figure this out... Trying to tether with my new Xoom!
Thanks a lot defcon6, I was looking for this some time ago, but no look, but know, looking for some other thing i found it, thanks again
Same here, stock 6.5 rom and no CMGuardian. Did you ever figure this out?
Never mind, I did run the cab from pengc99 and it worked fine. After soft reset of the phone, it never got out of the "modem negotiating" state but running the cab again fixed it. Now if I just could find the equivalent to CMGuradian I would be all set but this is at least working.
Bluetooth setting to ALWAYS ON?
Thanks to this thread and the pengc99 file, I successfully (quite some time ago) paired my TP2 via the bluetooth to a Nexus 7 tablet as well as an android phone, but each time I turn on the phone, I have to go through the following steps:
1. Select Communication Manager
2. Turn ON the Data Connection
2. Click on Bluetooth
3. Select one of my paired devices, such as the Nexus 7 by clicking the large "+" icon
4. Select Bluetooth Networking
5. Select the "Share Internet Connection" option
6. Click Continue on the bottom
I tried various registry edit searches here and on google, but cant' find any way to lessen these steps or preferably have the Bluetooth sharing set to ON at all times. If anyone knows how to simplify this process, please post the stops or file that will help us all.
Thanks in advance
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have an Acer S200 but figured that perhaps this could relate to any windows mobile 6.5 device. Basically due to restrictions at work, we need to disable internet access from our work mobile devices!
I have read various posts that state that this can be achieved by disabling wifi access by altering the registry keys, however none of the methods that i have come accross seem to apply to my Acer S200 mobile 6.5.
Sorry to be a pain, but does anyone know how i can do this?
Thanks in advance everyone.
alan
Like it has to be unable to turn on, or off? Does the default winmo comm manager not work? If not, just try a third party one, theres plenty out there
Hi cmstackar
thanks for the reply. Yes thats right, there should not be an ability to toggle it on or off - just for the wifi to be disabled for the user. I understand that changing registry keys is only a temporary solution since hard resetting would put things back to normal, but even that's okay for the time being.
Any ideas anyone?
What third party software did you particularly have in mind?
What about your internet access from the phone network? Surely that would be the issue, not wifi which you can't use to connect to the internet unless you're near a internet accessible wireless network which you have the network key to access...
hi xaccers,
the phone doesn't have a data connection plan with it, so it would be too expensive to use for internet access i imagine.
but, likewise then, is there a way to disable both of these (wifi, data connection)?
I know this is such a strange request, but appreciate any pointers from forum members.
Thanks
If would be easy if you could cook your own ROM, but if the user is willing to do a hard reset, there is nothing you could do to a factory ROM to prevent it from coming back after a hard reset.
hi trueg
that is true. However, I am a complete newby to cooking ROMS etc, and also if the user did hard reset the device, it would need to be taken back to technical department to have software reinstalled, etc. So the temporary changes could be reintroduced again.
So, given the above, do you you know how to temporary disable wifi/data connection? I have read others state that this can be achieved by altering registry keys - but the ones that are referred to are not present on my acer.
any expert willing to depart a little advice my way?
So your Acer phone has a wifi thats always on? I never encountered such a device but nonetheless if your wifi network at work is secured then your phone won't be able to connect to the wifi router hence won't get any internet connection.
hiya,
The users can use the devices in public wifi areas. But also, now that i've been trying to do this for ages, i really would just like to know how to fiddle with the registry keys. its kind of bugging me that I haven't managed to figure this out...
will I really need to learn how to cook my own ROM? (I'm not sure I want to take the risk :S)
I'm sure there is a really easy way to disable wifi/data connection (even if temporarily upon hard resetting) that the more experience members can help with... Please
thanks for all the input so far guys.
alan
OK, so you want to prevent users from accessing the Wireless Manager, or do you want WiFi to not work?
How smart are the users that you are dealing with?
You can easily hide the Wireless Manager from the Control Panel and you could possibly overwrite wrlsmgr.exe with a dummy file, but preventing access to the Wireless Manager would mean they couldn't put the phone in aeroplane mode.
There should be several ways to change the registry to prevent WiFi from working at all.
I like to use FdcSoft Task Manager v3.1 to edit my registry.
Hi Alan, You can try cooking a ROM..it's not so difficult unlock your device go to XDA WIki find your phone then check step by step the procedure, connect Acer to the PC download the ROM you think is better for you, copy it to desktop, then to your device. That's it
Thanks trueg,
you say there should be several ways of changing the registry to prevent wifi from working at all. Would you be kind enough to let me know how? sorry - complete newbie here.
francomur99: thanks for pointing that out buddie. I'll look into that too...
OK, well do you have the following key in your device?
HKLM\System\State\Hardware
WiFi = dword:00000001
Changing this to 0 removes the WiFi option from the default Windows Wireless Manager.
Does your device use the default Wireless Manager or do you have a 3rd party Manager?
Update: Hmm, that only works until you soft reset and if you have a separate WiFi manager, it can still turn it on. Well I can make you an application that will set this back to 0 after every soft reset and you can hide any WiFi managers from the control panel, but they will still exist in the \Windows directory.
The best way may be to create invalid entires for the WiFi driver. Do you have this entry in your registry?
HKLM\Software\Drivers\WLAN
AdapterName = ....

Hi Trueg,
Thanks for the tip. Yes, you're advice has removed the WLAN display from the comm manager. However, I do not have the HKLM\Software\Drivers|WLAN entry.
Infact, under HKLM\Software, there is no Driver folder. There is a HKLM\Driver folder however this doesn't contain a WLAN subdirectory.
Any ideas?
Schaps Advanced Config allows you to edit the com manager. You could easily remove the wifi toggle from there, but it would still be fairly easy to work around if you wanted to turn the wifi on. Maybe someone else could tell you how to remove it from the settings menu.
Sorry alan303487, what is your status with this?
hi trueg
I haven't been able to move forward with this since the post on 16th April 2010 11:01.
i.e. the wifi connectino from the comm manager isn't showing, but I can still connect via windows menus.
would still appreciate any advice - so far, it seems that cooking my own ROM is the only other method thats been suggested.
still would appreciate your help trueg. Any ideas?
thanks mate.
OK, well how would you like to proceed? Would you like to try and hide all of the options that will allow WiFi to be turned back on, or disable WiFi permanently?
Also, what do you have listed under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\?
Example: the WiFi driver on my HTC Touch Pro is
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETW1251]
hi trueg,

well, either of the options would do - depends on the complexity of the method involved.

Thanks to this forum, my less-than-2months-old Verizon TP2 (Rhod500) phone has internet sharing working and some great apps, although I'm still on the stock 6.1 rom (my phone didn't come with 6.5 and the forums seem to show that Verizon's rom is not the greatest). I'm not brave enough to flash.
However, I've a couple of 'general' questions that I can't seem to solve.
1. When syncing (ActiveSync 4.5), I now have an error showing 2 unresolved files. As far as I can tell, I haven't lost any files. Is there somewhere that I can look to find the list of what is/isn't being synced? When I click on the error message, it just tries to resync and repeats the error. My old IPAQ used to allow me to see what files were unresolved but that doesn't seem to be happening here.
2. Since enabling internet sharing (Tom_Codon), my backlight dims but never completely goes dark. My Settings > All Settings > Power > Advanced has Battery - Turn off backlight if not used for 1 min selected but no sleep mode selected. I think that sleep mode was selected before the internet sharing was enabled, but I'm not sure. Is this so that the internet doesn't cut out? Should this change?
Any advice will be greatfully appreciated. (My Verizon service center people know NOTHING about the TP2 - ask them about mediaphones and they're great. And it seems like nobody has asked these questions before, or my forum search just isn't working well.)
Moving this to the CDMA sub forum.

Do the ROM upgrade! I too was afraid but so glad that I did. It fixed a lot of glitches that I had with 6.1. Then head over to the forum "Software worth installing on the TP2" and knock yourself out! Especially Cookie's Home Tabs! It's a must have. (You'll also need CHTE...Cookie's Home Tabes Editor) Look for Touch X Manila Tweaks too. (if your device uses Sense 2.5 after the ROM upgrade) It will tweak the device to speed up the Sense 2.5 user interface and cut down on the memory used too, I think.
Q1. Not that I'm aware of. But, maybe you changed a a couple of files in both the device and the sync folder located in your PC's "My Documents"?
Q2. Tom Codon's WiFi should run if you enable sleep mode. If not...well, I guess you'll have to disable it. I just know that my Sprint TP2 runs this program even after it shuts off.
I'm still a bit of a nube too but I hope I helped.
So my wifi scans and then autoconnects to any unprotected open wifi network. I live in a city so this means every museum, coffee shop, hotspot, etc., that I pass, the phone auto connects temporarily to that network only to tell me after that it 'smart disconnected' because the signal strength dropped (as I, for example, keep walking down the street).
Some solutions online suggest turning off wifi when I leave my house (not an option), forgetting each network it does this to (not practical), and pulling up an advanced menu that doesn't appear to exist in our touchwiz version of marshmallow.
Anyone have any ideas? I only want to connect to a network automatically if I previously entered a password for it. This is how every other android phone I ever owned did it.
If you go to settings > wifi > more > advanced. You can turn off "network notification" and "hotspot 2.0" that should fix it.

Darn. That's all I know so far. I'm still exploring this thing while trying to figure out my wfii-play store mystery.
Hopefully this isn't one of those 'features' that turns out to be a bug like getting rid of silent mode in lollipop.
Hope someone else comes up with something.
