connecting my omnia to my ps3 - General Questions and Answers

does anyone know why my ps3 wont see my omnia when its in use as a flash drive
its formatted to FAT32, and ive even got the clearly labelled folder everyones on about. but it still wont detect it any
any help ???

anybody Know??
ive now tried with the built in usb switcheroo and WM5torage

to my knowledge, WM5torage doesn't work on WM6.1. .at least not on my devices and roms
moreover, there's a difference between the drivers on the ps3 and your pc.

cheers nir
i did notice the device seemed to keep on connecting and disconnecting so my theory is that theres a file that identifies the omnias storage that doesnt display it on the ps3

maybe you can find drivers for USB Keys for your PS3..
the problem is that USBtoPC doesn't REALLY act as a flash drive.. it only simulates it.
your device is actually discovered as a PDA (just without all the fuss).. rather than a flash drive even when in USBtoPC mode..

a) WM5torage works on WM 6.1 - there is nothing specific in WM 6.1 to prevent it from working. If it does not work, it not because of "newer" WM, but because of usual issues with USB driver in particular ROM (as in WM5torage FAQ)
b) It seems that PS3 is very picky in regards of USB device comminication timings, so it works with hardware USB disks, but cuts communication with "emulated" USB drives short. I have Omnia myself and had no success with PS3 either.

apparently i'm not the only one who complained about WM5torage having problems with late roms..

Obviously, when new rom breaks usb driver compliance, all people with this ROM will have problems with WM5torage. Still it does not change the fact that this has nothing to do with Windows Mobile version.

Alright then.. might be just bad luck..

Working Tornado. No USB. Any options? SD or others?

Hi all
I have a clean working tornado, with VJ 3.3 WM6 ROM.
The phone's USB port is toast. Can use it only to charge the phone. No USB sync possible. PC (multiple PCs and multiple USB ports) doesnt recognise anything. Even tried cleaning phone usb port with air, brushes etc, nothing works.
Bootloader mode works fine. But I cant get the phone recognised when you connect it to the PC. RUU always says error 260. (This, after all the tricks..activesync enabled/disabled, WMStorage enabled/disabled etc etc etc).
Can I flash it to the latest 6.1 somehow?
Can I use an SD image to upgrade? Can anyone tell me how?
Or should my tornado remain as a faithful WM6 until its last breath?
Valuable suggestions please
Thanks and Regards
Steve
Try bluetooth connection with pc or change usb port from smartphone.
i have the same problem
I have the same problem.Try to connect it on a xp system with activesync.I did that and it worked for a day on my vista pc but now it does the same as before.
Maybe its a registry bug because there many people with the same problem but what do i know...confused

Well, atleast three others have IMed me with same problem. After all could it be that a registry or a software errror could be at fault here? I never did anything to the USB port for it to go poof, coming to think of it...
Yeah, and all the PCs and ports I tried where on multiple machines running XP and Vista. Not a pulse at all..
Cookers, experts, please please..

The funny thing is that when i had the original WM5 ROM activesync worked fine on every Vista or XP system that i pluged the phone!!!
Well i'll try to flash back to WM5 to see if it works just like when i bought the phone. If it's working then it must be someking of ROM problem. If it isnt then i'm going to put my hands up cause i'm not so expert!
Please we need some help here.I thing they are more people than us with the same issue.
Thanks in advance!

Use phone as external drive / memory stick

The computers at my work have allow connection via USB cables but no active sync. On my P3300 all that happens is the battery is charged.
Other peoples mobile phones have the facility to switch from Phone mode to "data mode". This then allows their phones memory card to be read like an external drive or memory stick. Files etc. can then be transferred.
I have seen mention of WM5Storage but believe there are issues with this program. Does WM5Storage work or do problems still exist?
Is there another way to do this on my P3300 or other HTC devices.
The recent problems were whith the newer devices like the Polaris... On the Artemis it should work fine...
I've had nothing but good luck with WM5torage. It's a savior if you've got a Mac.

O2 Exec - Remote adaptor problems.

Hi All,
I have installed Vista business, then I installed SP1, and that is where my problems started.
The driver cache became corrupted, I've managed to sort that out however in the meantime I can't get my O2XDA (aka htc universal) connected.
The behaviour is thus.
Plug in PDA, new hardware found, and Vista installs the pocket pc usb adaptor, (well, I think it dose.. but do not see it in USB devices..) then vista tries to install the MS remote mobile adaptor, it finds a driver, but then barfs that the required registry key dose not exists.
I do have WMDC installed etc, and the update.
I have googled etc, but can't seem to find anything with similar symptoms, and MS are not being that helpfull, asking me to just disable everything and try again, new profiles etc etc..
I can see where this is going, but I really don't want to re-install Vista just for the sake of one thing not working (I've fixed everything else that SP1 screwed up...)
Many Thanks

USB device not recognized problem solved :)

Ohkay guys,
My Atom Exec which i purchased a few days back started showing this wierd message with my PC which runs Windows XP(Its an Athlon D/c with usual stuff). It was running mighty fine in the initial days.I have a USB mouse and USB TV tuner card plugged on to my pc.
After breaking my head with usual stuff like trying different ports,i decided to search the web with this problem "USB device not recognized",i was surprised to find many people suffering this same problem with their devices which varied from pen drives to scanners and what have you.
The solutions also varied, none of which worked consistently. They varied from running registry hacks to,powering down pc,formatting windows etc.
After spending a few days in agony and a few more trial and errors,I could figure out that the problem was related to power supplied through the usb root hub.Thats right, its related to your PC/Laptop bios,it has nothing to do with Windows or anything else.Your bios after a few days of use with usb devices cant drive enough power through the wires. So you have to directly connect the device.
Here comes the solution
do not use the mini usb/usb connector wire supplied with your device(any device) if you face this problem, instead get something like this http://www.mp4project.com/images/Connector__USB_A_M_Mini_5P_.jpg
It will work like a charm.
Hope this helps a lot of battered souls out there.
USB Device
It's really work? how can u sync ur pda to pc then? it too short.

PC's don't see my Fuze no more?

I haven't plugged my fuze into any PC's for a couple of months - last time I did it was with a Windows 7 machine and it worked fine....
Well - now I'm trying to get the thing to sync with an XP machine. When I plug it into the usb, I see the fuze is charging - but activesync never comes up and nothing on the pc indicates that is saw me do this.
I've tried with 3 different XP machines here today - and none of them realize I've plugged anything in when I connect my fuze?
Soo...must be something with my fuze? Anyone have any ideas?
Only thing I saw was in settings/connections/usb to pc
there is an option for "enable advanced network functionality" - which I have disabled.
FYI I'm running WM 6.5 on it....
All previous reports of this issue ended with bad USB port on Fuze but you may want to search and read a couple of the threads first.
Interesting.
I can't seem to find any of these treads - can you point me to any?
Seems rather odd that if the port was bad that the phone would still charge though....
Let me ask you this, you say that you changed your PC to USB settings to Enable Advanced network functionality, I thought this setting was in Active Sync. USB to PC setting should be to "enable faster data transmission". Have you played with both settings?
Here is one recent thread and I know I saw another that mentioned the device would charge but not sync.
Here are many more threads regarding AS issues.

I'm using WM 6.5 - and there I see:
settings/connections/USBtoPC
..that brings up a window which has settings on the behavior of the device when you connect it to a pc via USB. The options are to a) ActiveSync or b) DiskDrive
If you select a) ActiveSync you can "enable advanced network functionality"
There is also an option at the bottom that will cause it to ask which connection type to use when you connect.
I've tried all possible combinations - my pc does nothing when I connect, but I *do* see the fuze charging...freakn strange!
Have you tried to connect through an emulator like MyMobiler?
Its most likely a driver issue on your phone.
Hate to say it but.....
If all else fails, Hard Reset, flash back to stock ROM (if you've flashed a cooked ROM) and this should restore the corrupt driver.

MyMobiler uses activesync to connect so that won't really be of any help at this point...
I was considering doing a hard-reset - but MAN I have about 140 apps installed and configured so I really hate doing that. What would be nice is if I could just find the driver and try that.
So that I suppose is my next question - anyone got the driver? hahaha
I use Pocket Controller which can use an IP address instead, I assumed MyMoblier was similar.
Copy the enclosed .dll to your windows directory using something like total commander because it is a cooked in system file. It still may not allow it though.
You should also look into Sashimi restoral program, as it is not uncommon to have to hard reset occassionally.
Good luck!
Is a firewall blocking it?
Each time I want to sync my Fuze, I have to disable my firewall. For some reason, even when I open the correct ports, my Fuze will not sync to Windows Mobile Device Center on my Vista Ultimate (32-bit) laptop.
Once it connects, I can turn the firewall back on and everything works fine. New and changed items will continue to sync until the Fuze is disconnected from laptop.
You may have already checked this and/or things may be different with XP and AS, but since I didn't specifically see it in the post, I thought I would throw it out there.
Bad cable???
I decided to try a different mini-usb cable and it worked.
Here is what is strange though - the bad cable:
1. Still charges the phone when connected to a PC
2. Works fine with my external 500gig USB hard drive (which also is powered via the cable)
3. ...but no computers see the phone with this cable - or see it as a storage device.
Because of #1 and #2 above - I assumed the cable must be good. I had another cable so I figured I'd give it a shot - and sure enough with this cable it works with all the computers.
I guess there must be one bad pin or something with the cable - or something??? Guess it must use different ones than the external hard-drive apparently.
Oh well - at least it works and rather it be a $2 cable than my $200 phone...hahaha
Thanks everyone for the suggestions....
For what it's worth if anyone stumbles across this post in the future, I had a similar issue happen where it would bring up the usb menu on my fuze when you plug it in, but the computer wouldn't see it.
I had recently swapped the display/touchscreen, and it was one of the strips of metal ground/shielding tape inside the thing being mispositioned that did it.
Put it back together with everything in the right place and boom! works.
If you've taken the phone apart, those pieces of shielding tape are very important to get back exactly like they were, I've also seen lcd issues from it.
