SMS with special (ie.åæø) only 70 chrs not 160 - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I hope its ok to ask.
When i write sms, i use æåø because i am from denmark, and i guess other people may have this problem also.
When typing. if i type one of the special characters the message "max" length, written in the top (like 10/160) becames (11/70).
This is a problem because sometimes my friends dont get messages that consist of more then one. So it would be better to just write aa instead of å and so on.
Is there a way to "fix" this? this is not a problem with "normal" phones.
Thank you for your time.

it's not a problem. when you don't write in english the char count is different. you won't be able to send more than 70 per sms.

Hmm
Ok, så i should have waited for a danish OS? or what can i do?

aaah sorry for this post. apperently the answar is to uncheck "use unicode" in sms options.

Afaik this means that other devices could have some problems with displaying the message.

with a small "test" it seems to work.. tried to send sms with all danish chars...

you should know that unicode chars are important so that all types of phones can read your messages...

Typing with ROM 1.72

Hi folks,
this question is for those who have i-mate with ROM 1.72 WWE and ExROM 1.72.810 with Arabization enabled from IMAGINT, but if this issue is known with other ROMs I 'll appreciate any feed back.
While using the stylus with keyboard as the input method, I found the I 'm missing 2 features:
1. The 1st letter is not cabitalized even tho it's enabled on the input settings.
2. Double clicking on a word doesn't highligh the word or the sentence.
This is quite annoying as I use SMS, e-mail and MS Word extensively on my device. Is it a known issue in this ROM or it's something on my device ?
Appreciating any feed back.
it's nice to see this post reviewed more than 57 times till now with no one care to even say "I don't have this issue on my ROM!"

Simple Right-to-left language solution?

Does one exist?
For example: my phone can see Hebrew letters. However, these letters are displayed backwards when read in Hebrew, it being a right-to-left language.
In english, it would be like getting a text message like this:
?gniod uoy era woH ,!olleH
Click to collapse
You can read it backwards, but it gets really annoying with long messages. And it makes it impossible to type long messages as each word has to be thought of backwards.
After installing a Hebrew font, it's no problem seeing the hebrew letters, but their Left-to-right (English) coordination is where it gets confusing.
Mind you, I don't need a Hebrew UI, or Hebrew menus, just the ability for the Hebrew text to display correctly (in the right-to-left direction) so I can send and receive text messages in the language.
Anyone got a clue as to what can solve this?
Thanks in advance.
you don't need to write backwards when writing an sms.
it will be ok when received on a hebrew supporting phone.
(thats the way i've been writing hebrew for monthes now.)
try it yourself and see..

You're right, but the reading part is still a big hassle
Try investigating the arabizer techniques, but change to a Hebrew font...
The OS doesn't natively support Right to Left AFAIK.

No more tmail.exe input !?! ( only numbers and .?& etc)

Hello everyone,
After a lot of "tricks& hicks" on my phone, I've lost the ability to type sms, mail and MMS...
I mean I can type the To: with letters, but when typing any letter in the sms area, nothing except a beep.
I've surfed the forum but nothing, I think I changed in the registry the type of input specificity of the tmail.exe when trying to install HTC keyboard, EZ input...
but can't find where.
Does anyone faced that before, and could give me another answer than Hard Rest ?
Best regards, ad long live XDA

Seems no one ever had this strange sms issue
Hey hey,
I've just seen the answer of skribzy in this topic this night, and it WORKS!!!
big big up to you
QUote:
I had this problems - First get 'HD Tweak'
Open HD Tweak and go down to section 20 (Keyboard)
Disable T9 mode - I think that did it!
Regards and Xda rocks!!!
+1
Cheers Jeant, you just fixed my Diamond from enterring numbers rather than letters in SMS with the keyboard set to phonepad. That'll learn me for changing EVERY setting at once in diamond tweak, if it ain't broke don't fix...

Does anyone know how to have these in WinMobile 6.5 ???
Come on guys !!!
I really need Block Recognizer/Letter Recognizer back to my PDA.

Click the arrow.
Choose "Other Input Methods"
Chosoe "Letter Recognizer or Block Recognizer"
Man.
Windows Mobile 6.5
In Windows Mobile 6.5 on the HTC Touch2, there is no "other input methods" on the menu. Has anyone been successful in finding the Block Recognizer?

There's no option to do that. I already tried !
I'm asking for some .cab, some program that can put it back !
I need it too
please, help
I found this using the search feature of this board : http://www.giesecke.tk/xda/index.php?dir=Old_ROM%2FWM+6.1%2FEssential%2F You'll see it's called 'block recog.cab'
Took me all of 15 seconds
you are very quick and thank you
but that cab is for wm6.1 and I already had it :=)
we need some help for wm6.5, where the block recogniser is realy hardly disabled
I need it too.
The onscreen keyboard is drinving me crazy.
If i would have known that there is no letter recogition i would have kept my old phone.
Letter Recognizer or something near.
After a good bit of searching and a number of trials I think that I have found something that you might find useable.
Take a look at MobileWrite for Windows Mobile by InkMark Software. Not free but reasonably priced.
My first PDA was a Palm III and since then i have become quite good at the type o letter recognition that Palm had. I have had it in every PDA and phone everv since. When i got my HTC Touch2 it was mighty disappointing that they had removed it. Seems kind of stupid to do that or did they forget ?
searching block recognizer as well.... thanks - now I at least know what it's called on english ROMs
I would have searched 'graffiti'
running 6.5.1 German ROM from Bulltrip
Hi,
I have been searching high and low for a solution to this problem too ...... it is driving my nuts !!!
Anybody got any updates/solutions?
Cheers
I'm still waiting as well
I have a Dimond2 with a stock 6.5 Telstra ROM. I see that there isnt the option of choosing Block/Letter recognizer...but....when I installed PhoneAlarm, it has the option in advanced settings to choose which input type you want as default upon startup. I had Letter Recognizer in there from a backup that I had from another phone...and when I restarted, the Letter Recognizer SIP appeared. Its still not in the list you can choose from, but it proves its in the ROM somewhere. Just need a hack to enable it to be chosen from the list.
I have asked in another forum and got this reply ....

Did not solve my problem but maybe it will help some of you gyus.
Good news for fellow sufferers !!!!!
After snooping around, trial and error and many heart stopping moments ..... I have found the solution to the problem.
Have managed to get the Letter Recognizer working well on my device. Still got 2 problems though:
1) Sometimes it can be a bit slow, and sometimes, not very accurate. But I think overall, it is still acceptable.
2) It is not able to switch between this SIP and the default Touch Input SIP. This is not an issue for those who use Letter Recognizer exclusively though.
Will post the steps soon.
Cheers

I'm going to sit here and hit F5 until your update comes through, and then I'm going to try it, and if it works I'm going to pour a six-pack of beer into this laptop for you.

problem special characters in HTC Desire S - Sense 3.5

I have a problem, I'm Portuguese, so you write sms with catacteres 'ã' 'ê' 'ç' 'á' among others. Right now I'm using the ROM of Endymion, I've come to use the ROM and Runnymede had the same problem of special characters. When you send sms to other mobile phones with special characters, shows with other characters. If I change to the language to English (Portugal), it sends correctly, but if you switch back to Portuguese (Portugal) turn to be the problem.
I think that is the coding for sending sms. Someone can help me?
I've come to talk with lowveld, but he still could not see the problem...
i'm not sure if it would fix the problem, but have you tried downloading a different keyboard? Something like swype?
the problem is not on the keyboard, but the coding for sending sms.
have already installed some keyboards, and continues with the same problem. I can only post with special characters if I change the ROM language to English (Portugal).
Also installed morelacale2 to change to the Portuguese language and continue with the same problem.
So the encoding of sms that is defined in the ROM language to English (Portugal) is not defined in Portuguese (Portugal)
if I knew how be programmed the ROM, maybe I could find the settings to English.
that's why I'm asking for help.
I'm also Portuguese and also suffering from the same problem. My phone is completely stock with HTC updates, it has android 2.3.5 and sense 3.0 and I use the last version of Swype. I agree with you and think that the problem is not the keyboard but something else.
greetings
aBIp
I have the same problem too. I tried to change keyboard but steel with problems.
If someone could help, that'll be nice.
I had a similar problem when typing Greek characters, the sms were sent ok but instead of sending 160 characters per SMS, it would send only 70 per SMS.
This would mean that I was sending 2-3 SMS in order to send 160 characters message.
I solved it by installing Handcent SMS client from the Market.
I don't know if it would help you but you can always give it a try.
Hi everyone,
Im currently on TBD v3.1 Rom, and have the exact same problem, and really only happening when sending sms, it looks fine on my htc HD2, but the receiver instead of "~" gets a "?".
Email is working fine, facebook, everything except sms.
So far no one knows whats wrong or how to solve it =/
(my best friend, Google, cant also tell me how to solve this)
