Having problems installing applications and stuff on Diamond - General Questions and Answers

I bought HTC Diamond. It's sweet and everything, but I just can't figure out how to install anything on it. It's my first WM device...
When I plug it in the computer, I can choose between active sync and hard disk mode. I tried both. If I choose active sync, nothing happens. If I choose hard disk mode, it's recognized as a normal USB...
So I tried putting files on it, but I don't know what to do. I can't find the files I've put in it on the device.
I've downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center, but it always says that the phone is not connected. Doesn't matter if I choose active sync or hard disk mode.
Aaaa, what should I do?

Sync Problems

Ok, I admit I am a total noob I have only had this phone a day and I was able to get it to sync with my computer last night. However, today when trying to sync I plug it in and activesync makes a sound like its recognized the device but does nothing and continues to say the device is not connected.
I am using the standard rom and have enabled data communications in the connections screen. I have tried hard and soft resets.
Please help me...
Also on a weird note it is detecting the device as a file drive but it has a ton of photos and music that I did not load onto the phone in the device folder. Also the mobile device folder is empty.
Thank you in advance.
Go to Start-> Settings -> Connections-> USB to PC and uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality".
Connect your mobile to PC. It will be recognized (but not synch) by the ActiveSynch.
Then take it out and re-enable the "advanced network functionality".
Connect your mobile to PC agian and it will work again.
This works for me. It happened yesterday.
No go. Windows recognized it as an mobile device but activesync was still unable to connect to the device.
Also, when connecting the device as a disk drive I can see some apps i've installed in the program file, but it is still showing alot of items I didn't add. These files don't appear to be on the device. After deleting those extra files I tried to send new pictures to the device which would not transfer.
Any Ideas?

problem with usb

i need to hardspl, but my usb on htc touch pro doesn't work for some reason, htc recognises that it is pluged in the pc, but the pc says that the device has failed to start or something like that, i've tried to connect it on several computers but no result, is there any way of instaling custom rom without hardspl?
Make sure you have Mobile Device center installed, and maybe you should hard reset the phone, then try again. Should work.
Also check to see if you have some sort of Antivirus/Firewall protection active. Know this is an issue with several programs where ActiveSync (XP) won't allow the sync up. You have to allow the sync program to access the phone within the antivirus program.
active sync/mobile device center is instaled(tried on several computers with diferent os), firewall and antivirus are disabled, advanced usb... is disabled but windows say that the device malfunkcioned and that they dont recognise it, and i don't thin that anything is wrong with the device phisically, as it charges normaly and when i plug it in the computer it asks what kind of connection would i like to make, but no matter what i choose, windows give me the same message. i even tried to hard reset it, but nothing.
Try different cable, dont use a hub ...
Greetz&good luck
boris
isn't connected on hub, tried 3 diferent cables, fully updated windows7, fully updated windows xp pro, xp pro with only sp1... nothing. and all of these answers don't answer my question: is there any way of instaling custom rom without hardspl? and i mean realy any, it doesent have to be safe.

Usb wont connect

The first week I had my fuze i connected it to my cmputer multiple times. I connnected through active sync and through the memory card in my phone now when in plug it in on the same computer all it does is charge it doesnt show anything is connected or even attempting to connect. I reinstalled activesync, turned off firewall both didnt work. I prefer not to hard reset but if thats what it takes.... Any Ideas?
Partnership
I think I have had this problem before, you may want to try deleting the Activesync partnership from both the phone and the computer, then set it up again.
Good luck
if i delete activsync from the phone how do i reinstall it?
Noooooo
I didn't mean delete the actual Activesync application, just the partnership with the computer.
select manually from settings-connections-usb activesync and then connect wire, then disconnect and set it to storage and connect wire again. The point is to change the purpose of the usb manually between physical connections
i cant use my sd card

Syncing music via WMP

I have attempted to sync music for two days now with no success. It recognizes the phone in WMP and when I drag the music into the SYNC window it all shows correctly. Even says how much space will be left. After hitting sync it says "sync complete you can disconnect the device now" but nothing happens. Anybody else had the problem and found a solution. Or any ideas?
Did you ever get this to work? I right now am trying to sync my phone to WMP and WMP won't recognize it. I have Windows 7 32bit. The phone gets recognized easily when it put it in Mass Storage mode. When I put it in media mode the PC makes the sound that a USB device was detected, but nothing happens.
I haven't installed any USB drives, but what I see they are for XP and Vista.
Anyone know what I could be doing wrong?
Also I am using the Samsung launcher and not any other one when I am doing this, don't know if it matters.
If you are running a launcher other than TW it won't show up as a syncable device in WMP when you connect with media mode. There is a pop up message but its easy to miss.
You need to run launch switcher and make sure you are using TW Launcher and then plug in the USB cable and WMP should see your device.
Hope that helps.
Bob
If you are in mass storage mode, once you plug your Captivate into the PC, a notification will appear in the notification bar. Slide down the notifications and press it. This will mount your internal and external SD cards so your PC can see them. Syncing with WMP should work then.
Thanks! I got it working but not sure what I did to make it work, as you will see I did several things:
1) I uninstalled the MGtek Dopisp or whatever that program was that would allow iPods to sync to WMP
2) Then I installed the X86 drives for Samsung phones
3) It TRIED the MTP connection but Windows driver install failed again on the driver when I tried using my phone as a media player.
So I tried it again as a Mass Storage Device and it actually showed up in WMP and I was pleseantly suprised it let me since to either the internal memory or SD card.

Don't really know where to start.

I'll try and make this short. Phone charges fine on comp. or charger. Phone works some what fine. Bluetooth seems to be getting quieter and quieter, but thats not the main issue. WMDC isnt working. I uninstalled it and restarted, I downloaded a newer version, I even tried about 5 cables and still the computer isnt even seeing any device what so ever. I was going to task 29 and reflash but now I'm affraid if the phones not even being recognized. Is there some setting or something that happened to of gotten changed that block my phone other than the obvious -virus protection.
Using windows 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Try a different usb port. I have had issues where the port I normally use for charging/syncing refuses to recognize my phone. I just use a different port and everything works fine. Even the first port starts working again. Windows 7 does seem to reinstall drivers again when I use switch ports, so patience is required.
Tried many different ports. Can't do a hard reset because : 1- I have some info and text that needs to be sync'd and : 2 my end button doesn't work anymore. Actually it was sticking so I kinda disconnected it. I would try to do a reflash from a SD card but like I said, I have stuff that I need sync'd and I'm not really sure if the phone just isnt going bad or software. I guess either way it wouldn't matter. Would like to learn how to sync with wifi.
I believe there is a wifi-sync method/program, but am not aware of the specifics. You could save your information to your sd card and simply use a usb reader to transfer the information that way. Or you can use the blutooth explorer on the phone to transfer to another blutooth device. Or I believe Google has a sync service so you can sync you information to your computers anytime and anywhere.
You can remap the "end" function to another key.
Your phone's usb port could have a cracked connection as mine disconnects while synced if I move the phone too much.
WMDC does not recognize the Mobile Device "MSW Vista and Later OS"
Try this procedure(s);
Settings, All Settings, Connections, USB Connections, clear the "Fast File Transfer" check mark under the Active Sync option. Restart the device and before connecting to the PC Double check to see if the the fast file transfer is still clear. then go ahead and try to see if your PC sees your device. Good Luck.
