PROBLEM: Why don't custom Soft Input Method's (SIP) work? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a problem with custom Soft Input Methods don't be selectable. If I install e.g. PocketCM Keyboard, VITO's or Resco onscreen keyboard, they all show up in the SIP-Menu, but selecting them does not have any effekt. The default keyboard keeps enabled.
I am running Windows Mobile 6.1 5.2.20940 right now, but the problem occures with earlier builts, too.
I tried SIPChange and manually altered the registry to change the defaultSIP. Nothing helps. The custom SIP stays unselectable.
I was searching for security settings (policies) which might avoid the custom SIPs from running.
I'm not sure, whether this helps, but by default I do not cook Transcriber into the ROM. Installing it as a default application (not cooked into the rom) results in Transcriber being not selectable as all the other custom SIPs. Cooking it into the ROM makes it work. Unforunatelly this does not work for the custom SIPs.
Switching off security with the help of some cabs found here in the forum does not help, eighter.
I have absolutelly no more idea, what could cause the issue. As far as I understand, SIPs are "simple" COM-Objects. What could prevent them from being used by windows?
Please help me!!!
The Kitchen for my ROM can be found here, if it is needed for debugging or so. http://uploaded.to/?id=dajlrx
It is password protected with: www.eten-users.eu
Thanks!

I had the same issue... but reseting the device solved it... sometimes my device just got stuck on a sip and wouldn't let me change it. and as i need 2 languages it was kinda difficult.
I suggest you try installing a new sip.. not a new keybaord... you can find a few (such as opal's or diamond's).. and try to see if it works.
if not.. i'd HR

I once had such a problem on a Wizard, using some crappy branded ROM.
What helped me, was exporting the entire CLSID registry branch, then removing it and importing it back. The problem was probably caused by registry fragmentation, but that was WM5 and i don't know if internal registry structure didn't change since then so it might not help at all.
But i guess there's no harm in trying.

I don't think that'll help, since the problem happens on a freshly flashed ROM (at leas i understood it that way).

Can somebody please cook this in in a wm6 Rom!!! This is a great breakthrough At last, my waiting is over
It's already in many WM6 roms (like Xplore 1.1). If it isn't in yours you can install the cab from that thread.
Userfriendly sertup menu, possible?
Isn't there a way to make this option user friendly? It would be great if some of the genius wm6 cooks could manage to make a nice GUI for this function!!!
There has to be one of those gurus that are willing to implement this functionality "straight out of the box"!!!

The only thing you have to do is:
1.: take the _setup.xml
2.: put your sip settings into the filds (like _password_)
3. make a cab file with cabarc
4. install settings to xplore 1.1
5. Enable Internet telefone when available
-- and you did it!
could you just give to me this cab file i have some pb with cabarc

No I cannot - because this are all my settings with password, sipclient and so on.
Just tell me the problem.
For me: I had to try severel folders to put the _setup.xml -> so I tried in cabarc main, then in "include" and so on. suddenly I had the .cab. I think the xml has to be in the mainfolder. Then you got to promt and type "cabarc N settiings.cab _setup.xml" and it done.
I've looked all over and can't get a search to find what i'm looking for....
Is there some kind of reg edit that will turn off the "no phone signal" blip you get with motorola bt headsets? It's annoying when i'm using my Wizard for VOIP or another use. When I turn my phone off, it also seems to turn off my VOIP phone. I think the easiest thing would be to just turn off the no phone status audio notification i get with both my H300's & HT820's. Hopefully someone knows of a prior post or how to do it. Thanks

Removing the system tray WM5 & WM6!!

ah ha amen!
I've searched for months for an answer to removing the system tray on WM5 & WM6
Edit your registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software/ HTC/ Trayapplt
Export the Trayapplt string just to be safe you can merge it back if you change your mind.
Once exported delete the Trayapplt string completely and then soft reset your device.
System tray gone and the space is usable
Enjoy
You could have just removed the Init_Tray.lnk in the windows startup folder.
I afraid for most people that doesnt work as they dont even have that link file. I think the difficulty with the system tray is that different people have different circumstances. Some people can remove the int_tray link but If you search the web your'll see a lot of people desperate for a alternative method as they do not have this file on their devices.
It maybe the case that my method may not work for everybody but until someone produces a stable app to remove the system tray we'll keep searching for the best way individually to achieve this.
Sorry, didn't realize that that link didn't exist on all WM devices, but I haven't owned every device to know that. There are however programs that force the system tray such as DotFreds task manager and MyMobiler, etc, which even removing the Init_Tray.lnk doesn't fix because the icons will create their own system tray. Does your fix for it stop them from doing that? If it does, then I might just have to try your fix out for myself.
So far ive been running this setup for 2 days.
I use xcpuscaler which 110% uses a system tray icon whilst running. Ive also minimised many programs and the tray has never reappeared. Im not garenteeing this will work but I do know that its worked perfectly for me.
I hope this helps and if you export the reg as I sugested if the tray doesnt stay hidden for you for some reason then you can always merge it back
Hmm, my kaiser doesn't even have that key so I guess I'm out of luck there. I'm not sure if my wizard does or not, I'm working on cooking a new ROM for it and the ROM I have on it now is kind of messed up. I'll have to check it out when I get my new one cooked though.
fair enough, it seems to be very device related, im talking intensively to a strong programmer to try and sort out something permemantely.
Im running a XDA Orbit (Artemis).
Willl post any findings here
sorry it didnt work for you

No TrayApplt in my registry, unfortunately. Still can't figure out how to remove the tray bar on my Vario II (WM5) permanently. Whatever I tried, nothing worked to my satisfaction..
Edit: No Init_Tray.lnk either! Still looking for solutions, every solution is very welcome as long as it works...

My Tilt doesn't have that key either. I don't use the tray, have it disabled, but Task Manager always creates it again, until I exit Task Manager.
My Wizard doesn't have that key either.
Programs I have found so far that may cause the system tray to appear:
- Dotfred's Task Manager
- My Mobiler
- Pocket Informer
- SOTI's Pocket PC Controller (or similar: I don't recall its name)
- SPB Pocket Plus
All of these can be made to not create a system tray through their respective settings or otherwise, I believe. Currently I have MyMobiler, Dotfred's, Pocket Informer and Pocket Plus installed, and I have no system tray on my Kaiser. The above registry hack didn't work for me.

RealVGA on a 7510

Hi All,
I've just got my 7510 (1st time Advantage owner) and have loaded RealVGA on to the 16GB Flash Drive apparently with no problem. Similar to the issues faced by 7500 and 7501 users it screws up the Com Manager. I found the post from Tadeusz back in Aug '07 advising to install the Comm Mgr cooked for the Athena PK v.2 ROM. However, when I try to load the Comm Mgr Cab also on to the Flash Drive it reports that the program does not have sufficient permissions. I know that Tobias has not been around for quite a while. Can anyone else suggest a solution?
Thanks a bunch.
Real VGA on 7510
Well maybe I spoke too soon - I'm now getting a white screen straight after a reset. It seems that the only way to recover is a hard reset. Any thoughts on whether RealVGA will not work on the 7510 after all?

Are you sure it was caused by realVGA? Did you do any soft reset with a third party software such as Tweak2k2? I had that exactly same problem when using Tweak2k2, and the creator of the program explained that his soft reset logic is outdated for the newer OS and advised me to poke into the hole and not use the soft reset feature.
In other word, each time when you're asked to click OK to restart, don't click the ok, but poke into the hole.
May be this is not the problem, but since it is so similar to what I experienced before, I thought you may like to try.

You can ask someone who can copy the .exe file of comm manager who is using the VGA file and just copy & paste that to your ROM then soft reset.

Real VGA on a 7510
Hey Eaglesteve,
Good to hear from anothet Aussie on this - I'm from Melb & Bris before coming to LA six years ago. Actually I don't think it was the realVGA that caused the problem cause it happened again after I reste everything - have not worked out what it was yetbut being more circumspect in reloading the other apps this time.
RealVGA
Thanks for the suggestion cktlcmd. Can anyone respond to give me that .exe file for the tweaked Comm Mgr whilst running realVGA?
Also, would you advise loading realVGA into main memory rather than the flash drive or does it not matter?
Thanks
The rogue program??
At the moment I'm thinking that it was SRS_WOWHD_ARM.CAB that cause the white screen - I hope so cause I am not looking forward to reloading for the eighth time!

It does matter. It should be loaded into main memory. When the OS starts it is building its interface in parallel with setting up devices so it can happen that your SD card is not active yet when the OS needs files for interface.
Thanks Tadeusz. I have it seemingly running successfully with it loaded on to the flash drive rather than the SD card. Does your comment regarding the delay in time for the SC card to wake up apply to flash memory also?
realvga problem
I have just installed the realvga and I have seen the permission problem.
The way to do it is like this. After you installed the realvga, the screen is still in 192dpi (i.e. normal mode). You then install the comm manager, you will not get any problem with permission. then you activate the 96dpi mode from the realvga software. The machine will reboot and you will be ok. At least this is how I did it.
hope this helps,
Sorry to say that I followd your suggestion and I still got 'The program cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions". To clarify I'm trying to load "PK 2.0 kaiser 10B Comm Man for VGA" which was the recommended file. I have tried one with (fixed) in the name as well as one without, and I've tried them both in main memory as well as on the flash drive. I've also tried them both with RealVGA both in main memory and on flash drive? I've even tried loading sdkcerts - no joy.
You have to tweak it from the registry:
Allow the unsigned application to be installed by:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies
Change value 0000101a from 0 to 1
Do a soft reset.
Can you post a screen picture of how this Comm Manager looks at 96dpi? and maybe the Cab file too?
Thanks cktlcmd - the registry change fixed the problem. THere are 3 files that I found - I'm using the PK 2[1].0 file. Actually I've tried all 3 and cannot really see any difference. I've loaded the file on to the on board Flash Drive.
I've attached screen shots - you'll see that it looks fine in 96 and 128, but not good in 192 although it still appears to work. I'm currently running my x7510 in 128.
The things that still do not come across running realVGA are:
1. the Domain Enroll icon under Connection Settings disapears
2. ActiveSysc icon at the foot of the ActiveSync window in Programs is not quite there (no real big issue).
3. All of the program icons disapear from the HTC Launcher selection dialog (where you go to select programs to appear on the launcher grid). Once selected the icons apper on the grid just fine.
The biggest issue I have is that when selected RealOne Player hops all over the screen from landscape to portrait until it finally loads. Looks as if I'm having some issues with Skype also.
Two steps forward ..... one back!?

Problem with installation...
Hi, got the following error message when I try to run the realVGA. Any advice on how to solve?
"Missing 128 DPI resources: ipsecvpnres.128.dll"
Tried 96 as well, same problem about missing DPI resources. Tried continue but soon get into continuous looping in resetting...
Thanks.

Thanks should be directed to him.
Just copy and paste the needed files to Windows Folder before activating the desired dpi.
Thanks cktlcmd for pointing to the VGA answer!
For my x7510 when i did the 128dpi setting on real VGA it did do everything smaller and a comfortable dpi. Its just all the icons in the "programs" menu are kinda not smoothish, as in they have jagged edges. Thats what i don't really like about RealVGA program is that the graphics kinda look bad.

This ROM problem is driving me mad!!!

Okay. I have exhausted all possibilities that I can think of for this problem. The last few ROM's I've ported have been fine, except for one thing. After flashing (or hard reset) the ROM displays the splash screen and then goes to the welcome screen (displays welcomehead.96). However, when the LogoMsg.bmp popups up (the text that says, "The device is clearing the storage. Please wait.) it only displays for a few seconds then leaves. A few seconds later the tone that accompanies the "Tap screen to begin setting up your device" sounds. The words, "Tap screen..." do not show. However, a second or two later the tone sounds again, this time followed by the text, "Tap screen to begin...". From here everything in the ROM works fine. I just cannot figure that part out.
The LogoMsg.bmp is located in OEMDrivers, so I thought I might have accidentally removed something from the OEM folder. However, I have not found anything seemingly related. Also, I thought it might have been related to welcome.exe. Though, I've tried replacing it with an older version; still no luck. Unfortunately, I have tried so many things that I cannot remember exactly what all I have tried. I've re-ported XIP's (using Ervius' kitchen and by hand) and SYS's, as well as taking a fresh copy of my base OEM.
Essentially, I am asking if anyone has come across anything like this in your cooking, and if you have any tips. I would be more than happy to upload a copy of my ROM for you to test or upload my kitchen folders. I appreciate any help that anyone can provide.
EDIT: I'll try and upload a video later to show exactly what is happening.
Hi KMFM$
I use an official rom iolite ita for porting the xip e Sys to my kaiser. After cooking i have the same problem that you describe.
After 2 mounth there is some solution... i'm crazy for this problem
Bye
Daniele
i have the same issue when flashing any of the wm 6.5 ROM's. not sure what kitchen the chefs use but it doesnt seem to effect anything.
Well, I have yet to find a "solution" to this. However, I have just simply learn to deal with it. It does not effect the ROM in any noticeable way, and from what I've heard from other chef's, this is common in all new ROMs. Not sure what is going on in the ROM during that time frame, but again, it does not effect the standard operation of the ROM.
well dont sweat it then. yeah, i think its normal for 6.5
yep been a normal thing for all my 6.5's
hi KMFM$
the ROM is 6.1 or 6.5?
When it comes to porting it depends on build ver. ect ect. Its a big try and fail operation for moust of us when thing doesnt work as planned. But to get a true port you have to use m'relloc and manual change values in the modules, there is alot of guides on how to.
On dump of nbh in kitchen it unpacks diffrently (provider to provider or if its a "pure" HTC nbh), anyway the cue is that some of the chef`s use xip files in the ROM folder while other make mxipkernel + mxipkernelLTK in SYS and oemxipkernel in OEM then os.nb+ a folder named XIP in ROM and THAT contains boot.rgu I use the last method which for some reason works best for me.

Both, actually. WM6.1 builds from about CE OS 5.2.20757+, I believe, have all given the "extra" notifier. Again, I'm over it. I've just accepted the extra tone and moved on. No big deal.

Task Manager doesn't show ActiveSync

On my Hermes I used to be able to kill activesync with the task manager. With the new Topaz, task manager never displays activesync.
How can I get it to show activesync so I can kill the process without a soft-reset?
For what it's worth, the reason I need to kill activesync is because of a bug in the way it handles DNS. If I plug my phone into my desktop then it switches to the USB connection for activesync and correctly detects that the IP address for my exchange server is different (ie it's an internal IP). Unfortunately, when I disconnect from my desktop it never seems to realise this and continues to try and use that internal IP (or atleast that's what I think is happening). Killing both Messaging and Activesync solves the problem and I've been using this for nearly a year with the Hermes but I can't do it with the Topaz.
My Hermes was running a cooked wm6.1 ROM while my Topaz is currently running the stock HTC wm6.1 rom.
Cheers,
James
All stock ROMS have this behavour. If you know how to HARD-SPL and then flash another ROM I would suggest using the Topaz Essential ROM (it is the most stockish, stable and fast ROM I used) and after that using the fake server method for activesync.
Good luck and tell us what it worked for you!
no need to flash rom there is simple solution:
in HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
written all proccesses that task manager don't show, delete what you want to be shown and soft reset.
activesync proccess is replog.exe

Thanks Shumilica,
I wondered if it was a stock ROM related issue, but I figured that if the cooked ROM's could work around it then there must be a registry key or something that would allow me to do the same. I'm sure I'll end up installing a cooked ROM, as I have on my last 2 HTC phones, but since the phone is literally brand new I'm getting used to the stock ROM before I start messing with it.
I'll let you know how I go. BTW, I assume the fake server option is no use to me since I USE an Exchange Server and have it regularly syncing?
Cheers,
James

title definitely did the trick as I just found this easily
In my case on the touch pro, the stock ROM i had was showing activesync in the HTC task manager, but after flashing Energy 6.5 ROM on there ActiveSync was not being shown. I like to use the TaskManager to switch to it so i can see the synchronise progress etc and was easily able to find this thread and make the registry tweak
I use CleanRam, and you can clean (stop) hidden programs using the Custom process function.
