ok so if the limit according to the mms pic sending app says 600k, and i take a 364k pic and send it, it resizes it to 14k or so. but if i send a 200 something k pic, it leaves it alone. how do you know what the cutoff is in pic size? or some setting avail to make it stop resizing them? sure didn't do this on my wizard, it would just tell you the pic was too big.

I of all people should know this, but I believe AT&T has i capped at 300k, beware if you go over I am pretty sure you can be charged.
300k? geez, what a waste of the 3mp
well thanks for the info, problem solved!
You won't get charged. You'll just get a "Forbidden" message. I was not aware of the cap until yesterday when I tried to send a picture to a relative and it wouldn't go. Just kept getting the error message.
Actually, PDA devices can send/receive 600kb but if you send more than 300kb to a non-PDA device they won't be able to receive it.
BTW in MMS Options, I have "Photo resolution" set to "Original" and have never been asked to resize a pic under 600kb.

Sent my first one yesterday to my girlfriend's Razr. (No, not that kind of pic... lol) She got the picture fine, but not any text from the subject line or text block.

Ok, I'm looking for a site or software to create funny picture messages. Now I'm sure you are all laughing, yes yes...
I have a HTC Excalibur that allows you to sort of create one. I could never get the music to play if I added a short clip. So, basically I'm an idiot who doesn't send MMS's but would like too. Any have any recommendations. Where do you find your MMS messages?
screen 320x240 if that matters
P.S. you can stop laughing now
so.. i've tried to set the size on handcent.. and check on the stock messaging app..but all my pics i send are <20kb yet i get pics that are 128+ anyone know how to change the size it sends out? or if yours is different.
Not exactly sure what you are asking. Doesn't the SMS apps compress the picture so it will be small enough to send?
right it does compress it. however. on my other phones.. it didn't compress it that much. i was able to send a picture that was 300kb.. this is compressing it to less than 20. that just seems really small to me.
Everytime I try to attach a damn video (even very short) it won't let me attach it. I keep getting the error that the "message size limit is reached". Is there any way around this?
I've been Googling etc, but seems the only resolution is using chompsms or handscent. Which I'm not a fan of either. Any tips/suggestions would be awesome.
Thanks!

go sms pro free in the market, also do u have alot of text messages maybe try erasing them all? i know u want to upload a video but maybe that will help with message limits i know go sms pro lets u change the size of your messages to the most 5mb and that is text messages so give it a shot
Don't know why anyone still uses MMS anymore. I personally hate it since it always ruins the resolution on my pictures when it compresses the file. Just email it, or get a dropbox account from the link in my signature and you can send the link for the other person to download.
Also are you trying to send a HD video? Might be that the file size is to big for MMS.
Ahh yeah. I'm sure it is set by default at HD resolution. That is probably it. Still should be able to send it tho. Hmm.

MMS is no way to send large or HD files. Carriers have a file size limit for MMS. I think with T-Mobile picture messages are capped at 300kb. Not only that but they may compress the image further once its sent. Use email.
So I can send mms no problemo however I cannot receive from particular people. Those particular people tend to be iphone 4 users. People with the older iphone seem to be fine. It's really only like 4 people but it's annoying.
My carrier is Wind Mobile.
android 2.3.4
kernel 2.635.7
all up to date and what not.

Personally, not getting messages from iPhone users would be a feature and not a problem...
However, I would call into tech support as this seems to be a carrier issue and not a phone issue.

LOL
Can they receive mms from you? Maybe their phone is sending it in a format your phone doesn't understand? Maybe iPhones can only talk to other iPhones because they think they're better than everyone else.

it's the opposite for me. I can receive pictures from my friend with an iphone, but they can't receive pictures from me. it says that the pictures are in a format that doesn't work or something
I forgot the details but reading your reply made me remember something. I remember in sending a text with a picture attachment, sometimes my phone would want to send it in a format that android phones understands as a slide show. I forgot how to get it, if possible, to send it as a regular picture. Don't send multiple pictures in one text, that will most definitely send it as a slide show. I forget if it's opening up the messaging program and select through menu to get an attachment or to use something like root explorer or quickpic and hold down on the file and select send then choose messaging. All pictures seem to be compressed heavily when sending with a text. If there was a picture that I didn't want compressed, I would just send it as an email to the other person if possible. I forgot what file types are allowed to be sent with a mms text. Try different combinations and methods of sending it, you might stumble across the way that sends it as a jpg or jpeg or whatever and not a slideshow pic. I think my htc evo and evo shift were notorious for that. I would try to send a pic to someone with a samsung android and they didn't know what to do with it or it was unknown file type or what. I think I figured out a way around that but forgot what I did.
I have the same issue with my wife's iPhone. If there is text and an image in one message I just get the text, as a caption, with a blank image. If she does not include text, I can see the image fine. So when she sends me a pictures I have to ask her to not put any text as a "caption."
I think it's possibly this is because iPhone assumes everyone only uses iPhones too. Typical of Apple philosophy to implement their own standards instead of universal standards.
If that's true then it's good to know for future reference.
I'm trying to attach a picture to MMS but I get 2 messages. First it ask me to resize, I tap Resize. Then I get the following :
Message Size Limit Reached. Sorry, you cannot add this picture to your message.
I know it's not the picture since I even tried taking a picture I had received through MMS and sending it I get the same error. What could I possibly to do fix this? Any idea/tip is appreciated
I tried clearing the messaging app's data but it's not working.
Get gosms pro. Profit.

I've often seen MMS text and media files sent separately. In ChompSMS, it allows different size limits for resizing files. Mine topped out at 1mb. I expect GoSMS would be similar.
