well one problem that we would face if you what the video he is touching the screen with more than one finger at a time and not sure about new gen but old only single touch

Looks like another killer app, but imagine it with a 250ms lag after each screen tap. We love to hate it.

thats a badass app i would love to have it

HAha..

too funny with no multitouch and minimal talent!

now thatd be cool to have it on our devices

So I saw my friend's iPhone's Google Maps program

It was so sweet looking. Smooth, pretty, updated frequently, and was really pretty.
Why does the Windows Mobile one look so much worse in comparison? Not at all utilizing the power of the Touch Pro?

Have you seen the lastest version 3.0.1.6?
I have never compared my Fuze to an iPhone side by side but it seems to look fine to me.

Umm, we're up to 3.2.0.
I haven't seen it on an iPhone either, but our's is updated quite a bit with lots of great features. I can't really imagine what looks better on it except maybe the fact that the iPhone has a larger screen.

Ummm, yeah, that's the version I meant.... Thanks.
Damn ap-to-date...
Not even worth comparing to a Fuze/Raphael, it just crushes it. I mean I find that it is just fine on Wm6.5 for me with the Fuze but really we need to compare it to the Touch Pro 2.
Why is it so much better? Google wrote an app for a firm set of hardware and maximized the performance while taking advantage of the best parts of the iphone.
iPhone is so perfect in so many ways just not for me
we're at 3.2.1!
whats better about the iphone's google maps? Just the visualization of the pin dropping?
iPhone Google maps doesn't support lattitude, windoes mobile's does.
iPhone Google maps doesn't support layers, windows mobile's does.

iPhone style music player (I saw this somewhere) reason is; the music player for hd2 lags
Also a iPhone style keyboard would be nice too (wide spread keys)
That's it for now
Also why do HD2s lag so much with a 1gb ram?
Not all HD2's have 1GB ram. The german ones have only 448 MB RAM.
But my HD2 musik player doesn't lag it runs good.
its a 1 gig processor... not ram.
I just dont understand why people go out and buy a 500 dollar HD2 phone and spend there time converting to an Iphone. Wouldnt it be easy to just buy an Iphone?
Not knocking the developers here.. I have seen some really nice Iphone themes here on the forums...

Well I like the phone 10x more than an iPhone I'm just asking for simple things to make my phone more comfortable. The iPhone keyboard has more spacing between the keys and is more simple yet easy to type with. The music player for iPhone is a lot like HD2s but I have a feelings it'll run smoother this piehole doesnt can't even search

I'm pretty sure it's not the iOS but an Android ROM that is similar in layout and design to it. I'm guessing this is the MUIU ROM but I'm not too sure.
I don't think so. I used Muui a couple of weeks. This lookes slightly different. It really lookes like iOs 4. Would be awsomes if u could access the whole appstore on Your magic or hd2. And the touchscreen interpretation of the iOs is still the best i think.
Woa! think of driver related real multitouch (more than 2 actions at the same time on 4.3 inch)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
It's a little different then the muiu Rom but what's funny is the apps that they go in to they could of gone in to apps that would show it is ios like music or better yet the app store but they don't.... even at the end he has his figure over the Player and then goes back finance
Is anyone else besides me impressed at that video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY-uRRCARJw&feature=player_embedded
It really looks like IOS 4. It really does. Unless that is one hell of a good/baddass skin/theme.
What really bothers me was that half of the video was him moving icons around and that was it! That was it? It was!
I am no iphone user, but can anyone verify if the way things move, windows open, text, etc in that video.... are they indicative of the real thing?
maybe he opened up that white phone and just put an iphone under the hood. iono.. what do you think?
Last question: where is the original source? I would like to know.
thats definately iOS
Asians are always ahead of other Android users...
Whatever it is, either iOS or damn good theme, it looks great!
No it's not iOS, it's a very well done fake, if I recall correctly they used a theme.
iOS is not *ever* going to be available on any device Apple does not intend to have it.
Technically, it's possible if someone rewrites the code from scratch or manages to get hold of the code somehow (and even then it won't be a breeze), but the chance of this happening is just so incredibly small that really there's no point in waiting or hoping. Just go ahead and enjoy Android, Gingerbread is about to be released and it's gonna kick some major ass!
FAKE! half the animations are missing and ios doesnt scroll the wallpaper like android (i have an ipod touch)

SPB Shell 3D - Worth the $15 to me!

So, decided to try this launcher...priced at $14.95 I was skeptical. Love what it adds to my Tab experience however. Yes, definitely overpriced...but totally changes your Tab to eye-candy goodness.
Loving the Message widget, totally dig the 3D carousel effect. The World Clock widget is fun, and the whole thing gives my Tab a quasi Honeycomb feel. (in that it's much more flashy to show off, and some of the widgets are great!)
It's a bit of a memory hog @ roughly 90mb usage...but I tend to keep things skinny usually anyways, so no ill effects.
EDIT: I can't help but notice how lag-free this launcher is. I truly expected something so flashy to come with bunches of lag...so not the case. Amazingly smooth.

LOL true...still I don't mind tossin $15 to something that makes my Tab turn a few heads & make things more enjoyable to use!

Hrmm, it looks ok, but definitely not worth $15, if it had more skins for each "page" maybe id think about it, can you make your own skins for it? If you can id be interested as i could make a honeycomb-ish one.
let us know what the battery life is like with all that home screen animation. Also, what ROM are you on? Did it install like a regular Home app like LauncherPro? Are you able to switch between this and other home apps?
Oh and would you mind taking a video of it on the tab? How does it look in landscape mode?
IMO everything ist too big. Icons, Widgets, etc fit better on smaller screen sizes.
I uninstalled it. Its very, very nice but i wait for a tablet-optimized release!
from the brief go I had with it , I couldnt get it in Landscape lol..
I gave this a quick try. And its pretty crap to be honest. I couldn't get any of the 3d Widgets to work, should be 2$

Right I used SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 on my Nokia N97, there were really lots of skins available.
I thought Samsung Galaxy Tab was not supported yet ?
They say its not supported for tablets because they're working on a tablet specific app.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
Just gave it a try. Not worth those 15 bucks. Even more if compare to LauncherPro (which is a LOT more configurable). It could have been a nice shot for a cheaper price, but beside those 3D effects it doesn't relly offer anything more than Launcher Pro or any other launcher in the market. I have LP running both on my Galaxy Tab and Desire HD and it is way better on both devices.
I've bought it, but have already installed. I agree that the graphics are to big for the G Tab. I had other problems too. Like when I click on the time it doesn't open the clock. Same thing with the alarm...
You can't customize the panels. Most of then are the way they idealized it, and you can't change. The carrousel is beautiful but not that useful. It doesn't compare to Launcher Pro or ADW in terms of customization.
Way too expensive!

Battery life seems unaffected, I haven't noticed a dip from normal. I'm running Overcome Rom, OC to 1.4GHZ. Yes it works like any other launcher, can switch back and forth as you'd like. Currently it's only designed to work in portrait mode. I imagine a Tablet version will be coming, that will make use of landscape mode.
I'll see about making a short video of usage on the Tab.
I think it makes the tab look like a cheap knockoff with the big clunky graphics lol

"Not supported" isn't the same as "doesn't work on it". It runs fine. Maybe it's not Gingerbread compatible.
All of SPB's apps are overpriced, I feel this should be only $10, it is quite good although it's not without its limitations, and its massive memory footprint.
Ill probably wait for the tablet version with a landscape mode before getting this. Wouldn't want to show it off to my iPad friends , only for them to turn it sideways and see it doesn't work that way.

So....no hardware acceleration even after Ice Cream.....?

YouTube - ‪Google I/O 2011: Accelerated Android Rendering‬‏
At the beginning of this video, they basically state that because "Dual core and quad core devices are coming out" that there will be no FULL hardware acceleration in Android...ever...
In a nutshell, they're saying the general public will buy a phone because "IT HAS 5 CORES!" or w/e and not know the difference between GPU and CPU usage. I find this amazing that Android phones, often associated with lag on even dual core phones, still find this a low priority when they are trying to compete with Apple (and potentially Windows Phone 7 someday).
I played with a Motorola Xoom yesterday in the Sprint store (to see what hardware acceleration would POSSIBLY be like in ICS and further beyond). The animations were smooth, but there was STILL some lag (I suppose this is because of larger screen and more pixels needing to drawn.....but why does the iPad and iPad 2 use hardware acceleration so much better with large screens....?) I know in 3.1 they say they're supposed to better support hardware acceleration, so maybe the demo unit I tested still had 3.0....
For the first time, I've actually been considering dropping Android and moving onto Windows Phone 7 in the future. I was really looking forward to the future of Android, but it looks like Google really is only a cash cow looking to cash in on consumers' lack of knowledge on this issue...
EDIT: I know that it has been said that Android will be hardware accelerated, but I guess I was posting to get an understanding on WHY Romain Guy said this....it's conflicting to what has been stated and confusing....
Why don't you consider this for one second. Open the app drawer in Android...thats the whole iOS basically. Does not take much power to run that smooth.
Then consider that the App Drawer is only one part of a huge OS with widgets running and multiple panels and its easy to understand why it takes a bit more power to run this OS.
As for lag, zero with my Nexus S everything is lightning fast. My captivate, x10, and Arc had lag yes, but not my Nexus S.

This is a ridiculous statement. Use iOS for a couple of days and then say that. It's a lot smoother doing everything, especially scrolling.

I've actually been playing with my Nexus S a little more and try to push it to see if there is lag, and I agree wholeheartedly....if the speed only improves from here then I'm a happy camper I guess. I think this is due to the fact that there are some parts of hardware acceleration present in Gingerbread currently. If they enable "more hardware acceleration" then I guess it will be much smoother (which there already is virtually zero lag to this phone). I played with other phones in Sprint yesterday, and even comparing the Nexus to the Xoom, the Nexus was faster (albeit, smaller screen means faster drawing and smoother....). I used to have the Epic and that lagged also quite a bit as well (thanks Touchwiz).
You do make an interesting point that I never thought about when comparing iOS to Android with the app drawer example (thanks for that). I hate iOS, and Apple (although the iPhone 4 device itself is dead sexy). Lol...I'm actually kind of disappointed in myself for comparing the smoothness I guess and falling for the Apple "trap".
If you listen a little further, they start talking about tablets and how in Android 3.0 all the basic drawing is now hardware accelerated, and needs to be because they are trying to push so many more pixels through the same pipeline.
They then talk about GPUI - GPU-accelerated UI. That's the core of what they're moving forward with.
Long story short, Honeycomb has HW acceleration in the basic UI. ICS will have that too.

THIS.....At the event, they said that apps can be hardware accelerated. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but this will bring the true "iOS" like experience to opening apps, and once the app is open it will be smooth like iOS from there (if the line of code is added by the developer(s)).
The scrolling IS smooth on Android, but not iOS smooth. For example (using a static wallpaper) scroll and notice it is smooth. However, add a YouTube widget to the screen and then click the search icon.....on my Nexus it will lag for a second or two (like it's thinking about it) and then present me with the window transition to the search bar screen. THAT, to me, suggests CPU "thinking" and NOT GPU "thinking". I guess I just notice a lot of elements that can sometimes tax (an extremely light tax thanks to EXT4, but a tax) on the CPU sometimes when it comes to animations and window transitions.

No its not and though I didn't start with the original iphone or iphone 3g, I have a iphone 3GS, iphone 4, and an ipad. Statement holds bud.
I like to switch around, I also have a black berry, but Android is superior in every way...though I do not own a windows phone 7 device as of yet.
I love how you say my entire statement is ridiculous and bring up scrolling...did I mention scrolling? NO...did that have anything to do with what I posted? NO...
Common sense, level it up.

Thanks. I noticed this, and this was what led to my confusion. They say they're moving forward HW acceleration, but why then are there so many contradictory statements such as "there are these limitations to it....etc...." or other statements that basically say "yea...it's coming....but it's not gonna be what you expect it to be.....".
I'm at work, so I can really watch it again to come up with specific quotes, but if you listen there are some in there IMO...
Does a little bit of lag really bother people this much? I've used an iPhone 4 and still prefer android any day of the week. My Nexus S is the best phone I've ever used.

It bothers me, yeah. I find it very frustrating.
I think the lag has been slowly bugging me more and more....i seem to still get scrolling lag and some lag opening the app drawer in cm7 regardless of what I do.... That kind of lag is the first thing people notice... It should be one of the highest priorities for the future

Android 3.0 hardware acceleration, see here:
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2011/03/android-30-hardware-acceleration.html
ICS is the next evolution (revolution?) from 3.0, so expect the same there.
If ICS will be used in the phone, it would have the same hardware acceleration as well.
So, be happy and wait for the Nexus Prime !

You come into this topic, posting that iOS is anything more than a giant menu (which by the way it is just an app menu and nothing more) and now your *****ing because you get frustrated by the nonexistant lag in the Nexus S...if that frustrates you I'd hate to see how you cope with a real issue.

Booooo to you sir, for being a flamer. He posted a reasonable question about a legitimate issue.
There IS lag in Android UI. I see it all the time. The main time I notice is the application opening/closing transition animations. Sometimes they literally render at about 2 to 4 frames per second.
Also there is major lag in Honeycomb on Tegra 2 tablets, but it is because of Tegra 2 bug in portrait mode. It is smooth in landscape but very laggy in portrait.

No GPU support! It's perfectly 100% smooth as it is!
iOS is smoother because it's just an app drawer! iOS is incapable of the incredible things we do on Android.
I mean, iOS isn't smoother, AND it's just an app drawer! Wait, what am I saying?
