HTC Touch Pro ROM upgrade hangs - General Questions and Answers

Hello. I just got an HTC Touch Pro, and I want to upgrade the ROM, but when I try to upgrade to Hard SSP I lose the connection to my PC, and the device hangs and has to be reset. I tried copying SSPL-Manual.exe to my device and running it from there, but it also crashes the device. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks for any help.

did you follow these instructions exactly:
from hardspl thread by rapheal elite team:
1) download Hard-SPL package from attachment, extract to an empty folder. make sure it's launched from a local drive (not through network drive, etc.)
2) you must Have Phone Synced with PC in Windows Mobile!
3) run RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe,
4) follow steps in the RUU, check device for prompts after PC shows loading bar.
5) it should go to black screen now.
6) SPL flashes, device automatically reboots, job done.
7) to confirm you got it installed, go into bootloader mode (tricolour screen!) and verify the screen shows 1.90.OliNex.

Thanks for the help, but I followed the instructions exactly and it still hung and gave me "Error [260] connection". Windows Mobile Device Center closed and I had to reset my phone. I've also tried copying the SSPLManual.exe file to my phone and running it from there, and it also hung. I did a hard reset, but that didn't help. Any other suggestions?

Has anybody come up with a solution for this? I see on other forums that other people are having the same problem. I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!

after your screen goes to the boot launcher you have to go to unplug and uncheck allow usb connections in activesync (and then replug of course) The installation should then continue
I haven't read up on your particular device but that is pretty standard for hard spl (the unplug-replug)

Thanks, but my screen never gets to the boot launcher--it hangs at the Today screen with the little "please wait" wheel, which stops turning.

see if this helps:

Hey i had the same problem, the circle thing would spins and stop and hangs.

this file did it for me hope it works for you, gl and happy flashing.
if you have Sprint, Telus or Alltel or Bell, flash default package (Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.zip).

Thanks! I'll give it a try and report back.

stuck updating to wm6. activesync can nolonger see my device.

Hello all. I have followed the instructions to get wm6 and got stuck on step 9 of Karhoe's guide. Activesync will no longer see my device. so i cannot move forward. my phone is stuck on bootloader screen. After 'resetting device' in terapro. i saw the splash screen on my device then it went immediately to the bootloader color bars. everything else showed exactly what was on Karhoe pics. i just need activesync to see my device so i can proceed. any suggestions please. Thank you very much.
Activesyn will not see your device as it has been wiped clean of windows. Since you will need to be in booloader screen to install wm6, it doesn't matter if your activesyn sees your phone or not.
I ran into the same issue, i had to actually disable the 'allow usb...' option in activesyn so the romupdater utility can see the phone. So try it both ways.
enable it as suggested and just run the next step of installing the wm6gsmupdate...if you get some message saying connection error, then disable it and try again.
no activesync. Error [264]: Connection
thanks for the reply flashhsalf. it has not worked out for me tho. i tried both ways several times. enable/disable usb. i get same ERROR [264]: Connection.
im going to try it with a different laptop.thanks again.
Once I have this error too. Just reboot my PC and format BINFS one more time and all became fine. Don't know that is the reason, but this trick was helpfull
Have You re-enabled "Allow USB connection" @ connection options in Your Activesync??
got it to work...!!!
thanks all. i tried what was suggested all day...then when i went home i tried again with no success. to the point where my battery just died. i thought it was a paper weight at that point. but i decided to plug into the charger and the bootloader came up again. this time without the USB indication in the lower left corner. after a 2hr charge i took it to the same laptop which i rebooted. enabled usb then it worked! strange but glad i got it to work. Thanks again folks!
i updated to 6.1 but im experiencing issues with internet. ERROR
the remote party has ended this connection. this is the case with MMS as well. anyone experience this?

Xdabe if you actualise Radio ROM, before upgrading to WM6.1 you wouldn't notice that problem with an Internet.
Try upgrading Radio ROM for your device.
Gsmsikar once you are in bootloader, and have SuperCID, just start installing Radio ROM first, then OS.

It sounds like you did not carefully read this.
That is also where this should have been posted. A new thread should not be started for this type of issue. I understand you are panicing. However, in almost all situations the phone can be recovered.
That said, Hold volume down and hit the reset button. It will put you in the tricolor screen. In the white it says serial. Connect it to your usb cord. It should now say usb. Now flash the STOCK rom.
be sure that battery over 50% then follow arupphental's

go to bootloader (tricolor on screen)& flash a rom, your PPC 'll be fine. when you flash ROM, PC transfer data through USB to PPC therefor not need connect by activesync.
I had the same problem after a faulty ROM from Vodafone NL, what I had to do is before I wanted to flash my ROM do a hard reset on my device (please back-up your personal data before doing this). After the hard reset, I could get a stable connection with activesync and flash my ROM
While the circumstances are different, my advice is still the same: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481527

Stumbled upon this.. and yes the advise is good, when you run the flashing utility (i.e. CustomRUU.exe), it says you need an Active Sync connection, but you really dont, you can flash it anyway, it seems to find the device via USB regardless.
ufff!!!! to me yes found right, thank you thank you to first post. (flashing from SD)
Undetected
Well i had the problem where my phone wasnt getting detected at all.... i put the stock rom and radio but couldnt put stock spl on the phone with sdcard.... after trying different computers/usb wires/settings i returned it for a new one and this one works fine.

HardSPL problems

I finally got connect between my HTC Touch Pro and OSX (parallels + Activesync)
I am trying to run RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3 and everything goes well, but when it trys to connect to the device to start the mod, i get Error [202] Connection. I have tried enabling/disabling Advaned Network Funtionality in Connection settings, but that did not help. I have tried manually going into bootloader (when the transfer is about to start, I hold VolDown, and reset, and wait for Bootloader to go into USB mode). That didn't work for me.
My question(s) are, how can I get the HardSPL running, or how can I get my deviced flashed in general (SD method didn't work)
AND: My version in HARDSPL is stated to be 1.95.502.5. Is it OK if I downgrade to 1.90.1.3 in order to allow custom ROMs?
Thanks in advance.
Parallels doesn't play nice with the USB bridge.
Try boot-camp (works for me).
I crashed my first Kaiser, flashing with Parallels. Couldn't recover it after the usb connection cut out mid flash. I sent it in for warranty exchange, telling them it crashed while doing an " official " rom update. luckily no one looked too close and they sent me a replacement.
Now I only use Bootcamp and xp. And after more flashes than I can count, I have never had a problem.

Assistance required - Phone won't connect after USPL

Dear all:
Been an avid XDA reader, I decided it was time for me to test one of these wonderful ROMs. I finally settled with the ROSE.
Then I started looking for the instructions on how to do this. I am following THESE, and then THESE instructions.
Instructions are pretty clear, but I run into a bit of an issue when following them.
Let me describe what I do:
1. Hard resetted the phone (I undestarnd is better to perform this with factory settings), verified I have 100% battery.
2. With the AS enabled, ran SDA_ApplicationUnLock.exe - Got confirmation
3. Ran uspl_116_jockyw.bat - Everything goes as expected (follow the on screen steps, got the Tux on the screen, screen goes off with backlight on, no leds, and the phone gets disconnected from the PC)
At this point, I am supossed to be able to run the FLASH.EXE app, but my phone does something strange: I can hear a USB device being connected to my PC (from the Windows sound), but AS does not connect to the device (it stays gray and says "Not Connected"), therefore, I am unable to follow the flash procedure.
If I unplug my phone and restart it (by removing the battery), the phone boots properly.
I have been searching this behaviour on the forum without success. Maybe someone has seen this and is able to provide any assistance.
Please leave comments or questions. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks! That did the trick. Unfortunately, I am getting the known Error at 3%. I see at the bottom of the instructions that you might get it, and that "Instructions are below". I have been trying to find some info on the forums, but I got a little confused. Do I need a software to flash the SPL?
Thanks hhs6789 and deuse for taking the time to answer!

[Q] Connection Error

dear all,
first at all: I´m completely new here, so hello.
I finished reading the Wiki twice, also the guide from 'mskip' (Flashing your First GSM Raphael Rom (For Noobs)). very good and sounds very easy.
now I downloaded this file: RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3
when I´m trying to flash, it results in a "error 202: connection". could the windows mobile device manager be a reason, because here is just an explanation with activesync. as I use win7 64bit, activesync will not run.
I also checked lots of posts here, but did not get a right answer which could lead to a solution.
btw I have the "MDA Vario IV"-version.
greetings, tris
EDIT:
Update: Now I downloaded "TAEL ROM v6.28244 RC2".
Connected mobile to PC, waited until it is connected via 'windows mobile device manager'.
Proceeded with the update (my image is 1.69.111.6) until the screen turned black and a progress bar is shown (0%). now error 262 appeared. have to unplug USB cable, reinstall battery and restart. old system is still working. what am I doing wrong? btw, same error on my laptop with win7 32bit with fresh installed 'windows mobile device manager'.
EDIT2: okay, and same on my other laptop with winXP and activesync.
You need to flash hard spl before doing anything else. Try putting the phone into bootloader (hold volume down, then soft reset), then connect it to your PC once it's in the tricolor screen and run the hard spl exe.
After that, just flash roms off your sd card. Make sure it's FAT 32 format, rename the ruu_signed.nbh to RAPHIMG.nbh, put it on the sd card root, and then go into bootloader and follow the instructions.
volume down and reset done. phone switched to tricolor screen. then I started 'RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3', phone switched to gey screen with progress bar. 30 seconds later after 0% progress: error 262 appeared
EDIT: also when trying to update via bootloader, my image (1.69.111.6) will be left blank, I can´t see the version number which is currently installed.
I just hope you have a GSM TP/RAPH...
RAPH300 -> "T-Mobile MDA Vario IV"
but why do you ask? do I have the wrong software?
Just hear of those bad incidents with CDMA phones and GSM ROMs is all...
What does it display on the bottom of the screen when you boot into the tricolor screen/bootloader before you connect it to your PC and then after?
first serial, later USB
oh my god! *facepalm* okay for all the noobs out there: look at your phone. if you use HardSPL for the first time, you have a short timeframe to confirm "unsigned access to bootloader" via touchscreen. if you don´t do so, you will result in connection error 202 / 262.
thank you all, it works
