I like the simplicity of the stock security lock feature that comes with the touch pro... However the options for it are somewhat limited. I was wondering if there was a way to edit it to my liking.
For example, the option 0 Minutes will prompt the pin screen after 1 minute of inactivity OR when the device is in sleep mode... I would like to keep the feature of locking the phone when I put it into sleep mode, but I would like to increase the time of inactivity to say 3 minutes before it will do it automatically
Or maybe just an option to only security lock the device manually with the long press end key? That would work for me as well.
Doing a little more thinking about this, Id much rather have the security lock on manual, and long press end key locks the device... i dont like how itll pop up when im watching a video, is there any way to edit this without having to install a 3rd party program instead?

I'm looking for some software that will lock my 8525 on demand, hopefully through a today screen plugin. The app MUST require a password for unlocking. I have found some apps like Start Nice and Omega 1-Pass, but they are both explicitly incompatible with WM5. An app that merely triggers the built-in password protection would suffice.
Thanks in advance!
the default password function shld help. go to Settings - Lock. select "Prompt for device unused for" and then select 0 minute from the drop down, click ok to save. whenever u power off ur device and power it back on, the password screen shld prompt.
I do not want to have to enter a password every time I take the device off standby. I want to have a 1 hour usage timeout and a lock-on-demand button on the today screen as well.
I use mortscript, I wrote a script that I linked to an icon on my today tray launch.
You could do the same on your WM5 device. Some of the clever folk on here could help you with a script for your device.
Password lock on demand
Does someone know how to creake a desktop icon that will activate the password lock? The default password lock function allows activation after a specified period of time but it would be better if the password protect is active only when the phone has to be left alone, not while it is on person.
Found an old thread....but no solution
There was some debate on the topic in the past but no satisfactory solution was found!

is there any way to password lock the phone by pressing power button? maybe registry settings, application, or other way? if some1 can explain how, it'll be really great.
tray icon application will be fine too.
If you enable the password feature, and set the time-out to 0, it should ask for a password every time you turn it on.
no, its not suits me, i have 2 minutes phone turn off setting, and i dont want phone to be locked in 2 minutes. all i need is to lock it with power button and auto lock set to 15 minutes.

Try this:
Kai's Device PIN on/off 1.2

Example of use:
You were the hole day away on business and your device PIN is activated. When you get home and you do not want to enter always the device PIN . With this progam you can switch off the PIN easily and quick. On the next day, when you got to work, activate the PIN comfortably by a keystroke without reentering the PIN.
System requirements:
System: Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003, 2003 SE, WM 5, WM 6
Screen: 240x320 Pixel or higher

Its cheap, less than $5.
If it does not power the device off you could use mortscript to run this .exe & a power off .exe & map a script link to a button or an icon or voice command.
Hope this helps.

This program would meet your requirements by having a tray icon or launcher icon.
Mapping it to the power button may not be possible but it could be mapped to any other button if wanted.
This is the only password auto locking software using the standard device lock available.
Your only other option is to create a password on/off MortScript to run Settings/Password and auto input your 4 digit code, tick the required boxes & then run a device off.exe, done this on my old Magician a few years back., works well but its a bit crude compared to Kia's software.
i've download similar application(PSShut XP), but this app doing same as u describe, its runs settings\password lock, and then password promt appears, and u can simply click menue\cancel ). maybe this was working in windows 2003 or wm5, but im using wm6. only thing i've found for that case is vb function SHDeviceLockAndPrompt(), and i need to download SDK and compile an .exe, but im looking easier solution for that problem
clarification
I believe I am also looking for the same functionality:
-scenario: you power off the phone via hardware button and put it in your pocket. In your poocket, the button is pressed accidentally, and because the password lock has not yet auto-activated, the screen is active and you accidentally call your boss, or a total stranger
If this is your scenario, there is a 'screen saver' called MortSaver that can prevent this situation: it requires you to press a 2nd hardware button (user defined) to fully close the screensaver. unfortunately it will not instantly enable the password lock.
this does seem like nothing more than a simple api call, but i would be surprised if there isnt an .exe somewhere to do it aready. will have a look around.

I know S2U2, but it's "too big" for my artemis! I'm looking for a small tool. And I want the device locked securely. Slide is not enough.

S2U2 has a PIN lock, but yes it is a tad on the big side.
When I had the Romeos 1.40.1 ROM I had setup my phone (Using advanced config and perhaps a registry tweak, I can't remember) to lock itself when I press the power button.
Now with the proven ROM 1.0.4 my phone doesn't lock at all. The power button just turns the screen off, and when I press it again it just shows my password lock, not the actual device keylock which I want. Also, sometimes after I unlock the password lock, the backlight is still dimmed until I lock and unlock the phone again.
Perhaps it's because the ROM has advanced config and Diamond Tweak.
My question is, how can I get it working so when I press the power button, the device is keylocked, and after a timer of say, 30 seconds, the device is auto keylocked. I know I did this without some special software such as S2U2 or PocketShield. I want it setup how I had it before without that.
Regards
Apply the tweak again?
Keylocking is really problematic with TP. I've tried Sensorlock, Pocketshield but software keylockers get slow sometimes, especially when I am recieving a call. This makes no sense because using a PocketPC as a phone is preferable option . So I'd also prefer original keylocker but it locks always during a call so I dont get instant access to calendar which is my main goal of using a smart phone btw...
Hello,
The exchange password policy was pushed to my phone after setting up my work e-mail. This is fine and does not bother me. I am having trouble figuring out how to enable the lock feature before the timeout period so that I can lock my phone whenever I want vs. waiting for the timeout period.
I have gone to settings and lock and it does lock the keys but does not require my password to unlock the phone. Is this how it is supposed to behave? Any idea on how I can lock the phone on demand to password protect my device?
Thank you all.
not sure what version you have but the Verizon Wireless TP2 when lock is enabled under Settings Tab/All Settings/Personal Tab/Lock, it has Lock as the right softkey on the main screen.
I have the sprint version and when i go to Settings Tab/All Settings/Personal Tab/Lock the phone goes into lock mode and has the keypad displayed for me to enter the password. The issue is though that I don't need to enter my password to unlock the phone. As long as I hit the unlock soft key on the bottom left hand side the phone unlocks itself. I believe it should require me to input my password and then hit unlock.
Just an fyi I do have a password setup on my phone and it does work as I expect it to when the phone times out after 15 minutes and locks itself automatically. I just want to be able to do this without waiting.
if u go to all setting, personal, buttons, then end key, you can choose to display a quick list by holding the end key where you can select to lock the phone or just lock the phone by holding the end key.
Thank you! That worked and it is prompting me for the password to unlock the phone just as I needed.
glad 2 help
Hello,
I'm using a stock HTC Desire with Android 2.2 and would like to lock the screen with password, but only when I say so.
I don't want the screen to be locked with password after timeout. I want to be able to lock the screen with password, but only when I want it to be password protected.
Is this possible?
In devices lower than 2.2, you can use a toggle to turn password protection on/off. I'm pretty sure you can't with 2.2 (for security reasons). The toggles will take you to the settings page, where you could do it manually. I don't know of an actual way to do it, although it may be possible with Tasker. Probably not though, due to the limitation in the OS.
hmm..that would have been a cool feature, hopefully might be able to figure this out sometime, if it is even possible :/
Or just to be able to set the timeout for like 1 hour and then to be able to lock it when I want to (when I know I won't be near it and don't wont for somebody else to read my messages).
BlackBerry, for instance, has the lock icon which locks both the screen and password protects it. Nokia has the lock option when you hit the power switch. Android, which has an enormous amount of cool features, doesn't have this?! :/
I will take a look at this later, it might be possible to just call the lock screen from a widget, without permanently enabling it.
interesting idea, toggling the password every time im surrounded with people, and untoggle it when im alone )
The only other alternative to this is to have it set to be locked immediately & then use No Lock to entirely disable the lockscreen when you don't need it to be password protected. The only problem with this is you won't have a lockscreen at all & your phone will wake up with the volume buttons.
What I do, which isn't nearly as protected as password protection, but does the job for most situations, is use Widgetlocker. You can use a transparent slider so you know where to drag & unlock but no one else does. Or you can go with no sliders & just use the back button to unlock and set the back press duration to a couple seconds. No one will know unless they know Android & Widgetlocker well. Just don't put any shortcuts on the screen as once you're in an app you can press the home button. Or you could use a transparent slider to toggle interactions. When you want to be able to launch your shortcuts, toggle interactions on & then toggle them off when you want it locked.
If you need more help with this, feel free to pm me.
Also note that Widgetlocker is a paid app... $2-$3, I can't remember how much exactly. But it's totally worth the money.
