Can anyone explain what are the uses of unlocking our phone? I am facing strange problem on vodafone India, if a flash a custom rom I face call drops n network fluctuation, but if I flash with stock Asian rom like DDJP2,4,6 I wont face any call drop problem. That means vodafone is only compatible with the stock rom's of that country .. so I want to know whether by unlocking the phones this problem can be solved and any custom rom can be used..

as u allready flashed the rom the warranty list isnt working, just unlock the phone and check if the problem is solved, if not solved try another custom rom for your phone [Kyrilos maybe]
I have tried flashing all the custom rom's and faced the same problem... now as u said about unlocking the phone I will try doing it n see.. thanks

pavan, many of us including me face a similar problem. please read the thread i started and tell me if you face a similar issue. and i don't think it's just vodafone. turns out quite a few people on other service providers face a similar issue.
Where is ur thread?
Are u facing the same problem, which rom do u use?
I will try to unlock my phone and see whether it works..

if i'm not wrong, i think our phone is already unlocked. i think unlocking means getting rid of fixed service provider that the phone comes with. i don't think there are phone contracts in india, barring a few. correct me if i'm wrong.
have you unlocked your phone or u still cant do it ?

Heh... tried this and it says:
SRS Protection error
Error, Wireshark detected, please close then try again
Installed windows xp in virtual box so i could work around that and it says:
SRS Protection error
Virtual environment detected, this program will not run in virtual machines..
I don't know for sure, but it doesn't look like this method works any more.. hooo well
<edit>
My bad, I assumed fiddler was using winpcap to do its sorcery, instead, i had winpcap installed for some other thing, and that was confuddling it. Used a different computer, worked fine yay!!

I was wondering if you had any luck getting this on a gsm network..I know cricket is CDMA but I have read a few different websites listing the specs for this phone and some say it is GSM capable while others say it is not. Currently I am messing with it to see if I can get it on AT&T. Is this even possible. Thanks in advance.

I tried awhile ago and it didn't work for me because my UTMS menu has been disabled and has no way to access it, I'm on stock KK NC1. However, I saw those who seems to be able to unlock with this method are mostly on older rom.

There's already an older unlock thread with this method and it's confirmed to only work on older firmware or after flashing the old modem.

I've never had any issues talking to AT&T's international support, saying I'm planning on traveling overseas and requesting an unlock code. No charge.

I am long time AT&T customer and never been successful with AT&T's international support. I ended up buying codes on the net.
When I received my S4 a year ago it clearly stated in their website that S4 would not be received the sim-unlock code from AT&T.
I received the S4 with 4.4.2 rom and MDL baseband/modem. I rooted the phone and then flashed the custom rom (Clear Rom 1.5). After that I tried the hidden features that posted on the net to unlock the sim. It did not work. The phone has to be on stock rom that I read later.
I end up buying the code on the net and it worked for me. When I bought the code they gave me several codes to test it. Sim was unlocked in the first code that I entered.
