I am new to this so please excuse this quesations. I hope to upgrade on O2 to the Serra which I understand is this phone. My problem is that my car kit does not like the O2 software. Have I understood correctly that I can change my ROM from O2 to HTC by flashing? I will use the phone for Tom-Tom, phone calls and push e-mails. Aparts from the original HTC ROM are any ROMS better than others. If I only need to change a certian part of how the software works to make compatable with my car kit. HOw do I find out what to change?
Hopefully someone can explan all.
Cheers

Hi,
I am using the 1.11 Rom. Unfortunately, my mdac's audio quality suffers from a kind of distortion. You almost cannot hear it, when somebody speaks soft, but as soon as it gets a little louder it is not very pleasing to the ears.
I tried to have it repaired, but they could not find anything.
So, I had the lady at the T-Mobile shop in my town make a test call.
She immediately noticed the distorted sound. We also changed the SIM to a new one, but it did not help.
So, finally, they would swap the thing toworrow.
But, as I stated....
So, is it possible at the moment to downgrade to a German ROM (T-Mob Germany or even better T-Mob Austria?)
I also want to add that my brother owns the same device, but he still has the German Rom, only the radio update to 1.05 was made...
Thanks for your answers and help, Günter
well, sure you can downgrade... no problem in doing that!
it's the same steps when upgrading but instead of upgrading the new rom use the old one.....!
the only problem is that it seems almost impossible to get an original T-Mobile ROM. But if you have a brother...
@pietrucci:
You mean, I can make an image of my brother's mdac's rom?
And then put it back on my mdac?
Is that possible?

Yes it is! You need ntrw.exe (v 2.0) and a sd-card. With the ntrw tool you can write your brothers ROM onto your computer (if you have a sister with a MDA, you can use that one too! I mean her MDA, not your sister herself ofcourse). And with the same ntrw tool you can make a bootable sd-card with this ROM. And then put it on the other machine. Look in this forum, there are several threads. For example, look at today's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=19500
@pietrucci:
Thank you (concerning my sister, unfortunately I don't have one).
I decided to go with my mda til the T-Mob Update which hopefully should be out in April (they didn't say 2005.)
It got a little better with my new SIM, and the guy in the shop allowed me to use his device, same ****ty audio quality (of course, he had no Radio Update  )
So again, thank you very much

Q: What means CID(-unlock)?
A: Most providers add a Carrier ID to their devices. This CID is added to prevent a device being flashed with a ROM which is not from the provider.
To flash other ROM's, you have to unlock the CID. If you flash another ROM on a CID-locked device, the new ROM will not work properly.
As I have a non branded, non provider, just HTC phone how can it be impossible to update from one language to another without the 'hardspl' trick?
What is there to gain to make it so difficult to change language?
What is there to gain for HTC or Microsoft?
I can understand that a provider, like AT&T or Vodafone or whatever, lock their devices to keep their customers 'inhouse' but for all of us that have no provider/branded phone there is no issue to do this.
Anyone can explain this to me. (If anyone wants to explain )
Well, what if someone who bought the HTC branded device would flash the AT&T shipping ROM?
First of all, the AT&T Radio ROM does not work on HTC devices (except the latest). And... you'd need a HTC keyboard fix. But the most important reason is, that the CID prevents you from flashing a ROM, which is not designed for your device.
This would brick lots of phones in worst case and in best case HTC would need a several 100% more money and people for support just for telling the people, that they flashed a ROM which is not supported by HTC.
So this means that in my case, having a HTC branded device I can without any problems update this to an english version when I get my hands on a HTC owned version of the rom.
Yes, I do understand your point but still I see no harm in upgrading languages. And afaik this is just something HTC and MS agreed upon.
Thanks for your reply.
Well, unfortunately i cannot say you why HTC does not want that. I am sure, they have a more or less good reason, but which...???
Just keep is as it is ;-)

I was thinking the same thing. It would be different if it was like 1.72 or something... especially since it's so new. But 1.27 is WAY old (and not 6.1 compatible).

I think it was a misprint because three's TyTN is only on WM 6.0
They haven't released an upgrade.

Can we have an update in your first post in this thread as well then please. Unlike with a wiki where anyone can edit the page, you (or I guess a mod/admin person) are the only ones who can correct that. 3 UK users may be all excited seeing mention of WM 6.1, only to be disappointed when they find out it's still WM 6.0. FWIW I've found that as far as HTC TyTN II releases go, their WM 6.0 ROM/Radio combinations are superior so I can understand why 3UK don't have a WM 6.1 update (at least not here on xda-dev).
3 UK and Radio
Hi - I've upgrade to Win Mobile 6.1 (Shifu 13F) which works great, appart from not being able to hear or be heard in calls. Everything else works.
Radio is 1.27.15.32 (the original one I think) Is there not another radio that will work with this and other 6.1 roms? What is different about the 3 radio and others? Does this mean that those of us on 3 cannot use cooked roms?
Many thanks for the information already provided.....
Found a solution!!!!
I upgraded my radio to 1.70.18.02 and all works fine now, camera, sound and calls! Going to try it with a Win 6.5 rom soon as well!
People Its Not Hard

i have just gotten hold of a 3 sim and i'm trying to access planet 3 services but without the certs included in the official 3 rom i am getting nowhere fast! can anyone offer some advice? do i need to decompile the 3 stock rom and rip the certs from there? any help would be appreciated! I heard mention of a cab called SDKCerts which may be exactly what i need - all i really want is the skpe installer from 3 so the data used for skype calls is free rather than being taken from my usage allowance (3 customer services have confirmed this is what will happen if i use skpe's own installer of the skype app!!!)
respect, Pete
Mirror mirror...
Can someone with the 3 UK ROM host it on a different service please. Rapidshare is never up these days, and I would like to sort my MDA Vario III into one that Planet 3/Skype likes.
The Kaiser ROM page has the same Rapidshare link

Hi apokryphus,
I had the same problem with my Xda mini S - o2 usually stores the additional .CAB-files for the homezone indicator on the ROM, so before flashin to a new ROM you can (and should) just copy them and store them on a storage card. On Wizard, I needed two files, one was for the channel and one was the Homezone indicator tool. You can also call the o2 hotline for free and they will most probably send you the files per eMail. In fact, the German o2 hotline is (or was at least) one of the best hotlines I ever called. Just ask them.
Cheers,
Eriol
I'm not sure it's the best idea to call them and tell them that you have flashed a custom ROM on your device..

Would YOU do this? REALLY? Even if there is no need to do so??? One might think a while ... and figure out that it might also be possible that you own an unbranded HTC device without the Homezone software. This might work ;-)
Easiest way is to save the needed .CAB files from the original ROM and store them on a storage card.

Hello,
I just started using HTC Tytn II and when I was out of UK, I needed to unlock the phone from Orange to enable me using it. I then sent it to a shop via a friend. Then I just realised when it got back to me, the software is a bit different - on turning the phone on it reads "HTC touch dual".
I suspect the person from the shop put the touch software in my Tytn.
So that was fine. I do not really have problem with it, in fact i get used to the function already. but i have problem to have my gps working. i could get the map on the phone, but the receiver doesnt work.
I wonder if anybody could help me, in plain term (i am not good with gadgets, softwares etc) direct me towards solving this problem.
do i need to change it back to the original software, and if so, how?
or how can i make my gps working?
thank you very much in advance =)

This isn't rocket science you can do it.
I do not think that this is a Rom issue, but a Radio issue, if you can check what radio you are using and make sure it matches the Rom, the instructions are there in the link that Fifa provided..
