asus p550 / vodafone v1520 - problem with solution - General Topics

hey all,
just solved a very annoying problem with my vodafone v1520 - so I thought I'd share the sollution with you since more people may come across it
the phone was working well within vodafone, now it was supposed to work with era gsm network in poland. the phone kept braking up connection to the network (no service message) when in gsm mode, worked well in 3g. the problem turned out to be with the sim card - this model doesn't work well with new era simcards with small connector area. it works flawlessly with the large connector area on the sim card. technical support had no clue how to solve it - I just did a few tests with other people's sim cards - all of them having the large connector area.
picture below show two sim cards - the upper one being not properly recognized by the device, the lower one working very well without any glitches.
hope this helps someone with such a problem )

Radio / No signal Problem

Hi guys,
My polaris randomly decided to stop recieving a signal the other day,
it still recieves GPRS data, but no GSM signal, no matter which network etc I select. (No Service Icon.)
First I tried different simcards etc in the phone but this didnt work, I then swapped over the board of the phone, thinking this must solve the problem but it hasnt.. (different Rom, Radio aswell)
Same as before the phone recieves a GPRS signal but no gsm signal. Just the exclamation mark next to the signal meter...
I also tried updating both the ROM and radio on the phone, and the board that I swapped in was from another polaris I had with a cracked screen that was working fine before...
( I used, outer casings from the suspected broken radio phone and the board from the cracked screen phone which had no reception problems.)
What could be the problem guys? Which parts of the phone affect the signal???
( The phone is actually an orbit 2, I have had it running for over a year now on the Mamine rom, and unlocked with Olipro and never had a problem, it also doesnt work with an O2 sim incase anyone suggested it was simlocked or something.)
Cheers,
Dan.
bump- please help guys!
were you moving around? could always be a carrier problem....
if gprs is working ok it's doubtful to be radio rom/hardware
Yeah, it is the same everywhere, just the noservice notification.
Other phones work fine, so def a prob with the phone...
Could O2 have locked the phone for some reason?? It was purchased via ebay, could it have been stolen or something? Would it have had 2 have an O2 signal for O2 to block the phone??
Cheers...
I have a same problem. Firstly, when i turn on my HTC TOUCH CRUISE. It says, no network, than after 5mins, it says, no sim card inserted. Can anyone help me what's the problem?
This problem seems to be popping up a bit around the forum...
Is it with O2 Orbit 2's only?? Could O2 have sent something out blocking some of the handsets via the imei or something?
Is there a solution??
Cheers guys,

I also have strange problems. My Cruise dropped on the floor on a skiing trip last March, and since than it has strange network problems.
It mostly says 'No service', but sometimes (randamly) it says something like 'Searching...', 'Denied,Searching...'
I'm not sure if I translated this correctly, I have a Dutch version of the standard 6.1 ROM. I hard reset, re-flashed to original firmware RUU_Polaris_HTC_NLD_3.13.404.0_radio_sign_25.85.30.07_1.59.42.15_Ship.exe
Since this afternoon it is not connecting at all. No reception at all.
My provider is the Dutch one Vodafone (it shoud say '3G Vodafone NL'). Funny is that the those items are unchecked in the network selection (phone --> network --> select networks), but that seems to be the case with other users as well.
Does anyone has a clue?
Greetings,
Murwin.
Same Problem
My Polaris randomly goes offline and gives the ! mark next to the signal meter. I have tried changing Radio ROM and it makes not difference. I think the problem is with the SIM Card reader. I put some sponge tape over the top of the SIM Card reader so it puts even downward pressure on it and the problem is almost fixed. It still randomly goes offline, but only once a day now. If anyone has had any better luck, please post the solution here.
Thanks

No signal after dropperd phone; GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth OK

Hi everyone! Accidentaly I dropped my phone yesterday. I use EnergyRom June 1st CookieTab edition without major issues before that. Radio version is 1.11.25.01. I´m not 100% sure, but I realized that after that incident (from about 1/2 mt) I see only the "No signal" icon, and I can´t make or answer calls. My GPS, WIFI and Blutooth work without problems (all radio related). I flashed 2 radios and make hard reset with no success. I live in Chile (Touch Pro GSM buyed in New York 2 years ago), so the "support center" options is a dificult choice (no authorized HTC center that I know here). Is there anyone with a similar problem / solution??? Please help.
Best regards from Chile
Hopefully its something simple related to the sim holder & ribbon connectors.
You could have a look yourself if your a little technical (tech instruction manual in wiki) or take it to a good phone repair specialist for a basic inspection of sim card board & ribbon connectors.
Ok. I will try that. Do you think that I must see SIM card connections too? I was planning to see the "antenna" part
Yes antenna & also check sim board/connections.
My wife dropped her old Sony Ericsson and that was simply antenna plug dsconnected.
Good luck !
I sent my Touch Pro to an "authorized support center" here in Santiago. I will have an answer in 5 days. If they can fix my phone I will post what the fault was here. Thank you very much!

[Q] Unusual sim card fault.....

So I wake up 1 morning and find my htc desire is all messed up, after 5 months of use. Rebooting on its own constantly, and weirdly, not being able to find any network (im on orange UK). The phone couldnt even detect there was a simcard in it.
Did the usual - panic - forum search - lots of stories about htc desires rebooting on their own. Lots of stories about desires not being able to detect the simcard due to a lose simcard holder.
Turns out it was none of those things for me - as i put in a vodafone simcard from my work phone - and it was absolutely fine. No rebooting, no problems connecting to a network.
conclusion - the orange simcard had somehow corrupted itself during my sleep, and was attacking my phone.
can anyone explain this?
The Sim gods hate you ? You may have to go to sim city and give offerings........
Seriously,
A Likely candidate for the sim problem would be a mechanical problem. In other words, the cards' gold micro coating is worn causing some resistance and then after enough time either heat or some other data transfer problem manifests and you get a reboot. Try replacing the Sim card. Other options is Vodaphone had a bad batch of cards and you got one..... lucky you. And, of course the company would never willingly disclose they had a bad batch of cards.
There is some guesses you can start with.......... I would just replace the card they are 8.00usd here so it is a cheap fix.

[Q] Note II clone - Problem weak signal (low)

Hi guys I have for almost a month buy a clone of Note II (GT N7100 ) MTK 6577.
It's identical to the original firmware 4.0 (in the info says 4.1 but it is not), but the problem is as follows:
I have problems with signal reception. The signal is very weak, and does not ever tried it on a phone identical (bought two) and the other does my card and conversely his card in my not work, so it's a reception problem with my phone.
My question is, is there a way to solve? Update firmware, change ROM, put the code in the PAD or tell me. I would like to work out why it is very important for me and I hope in you.
Thanks to all for your cooperation
I just reset the phone... other solution?
If i force network operator with the code in the pad phone?
Probably it's a manufacturing defect, my brother order a Note 2 clone(GT-T700) and the phone came with phone and wi-fi signal problems. Sometimes the signal come and go in both signals. My brother (using reference photos) opened the and saw that the phone signal cable was not properly placed.
Right now he is trying place properly the signal cable and he is trying to work on the wi-fi signal
damn ... to tell the truth even wifi and really poor ... do you think it is difficult to fix it?

[Q] Major connectivity issues!

Is anyone else having this problem?
I've got a dual SIM SGS6 from Expansys AU (based in HK). I've got a new nano SIM card in SIM1 slot, SIM2 is empty. I've transferred my service across to the new SIM and confirmed (using an adaptor) that I can get 4G service fine on my Nexus 5.
However on my SGS6 it only shows 3G, H or H+, never 4G. I also find that every few minutes the data connection goes completely. I happened to be in the dual SIM menu at the time and noticed it went from showing only SIM1 being present to both SIM1 and SIM2 being lit up - as you can see this corresponds with the phone showing 'no signal' in the notification tray. It also keeps on sometimes showing the message "When changing SIM Card, Data service slot also can be changed. When you want to change Network mode, please go Mobile network menu and change it." (poor grammar all Samsung's!)
Has anyone seen this before or is it going to be a case of having to ship it back to them?

Aren't the dial sim versions intended for the Chinese markets? If that's the case, you may not have the correct LTE radio bands for where you live.
Doesn't seem to be that - the bands fit according to the specs and at some points it does connect properly to 4G/4G+ - it just doesn't hold it
Maybe damaged SIM??
Don't think so - it's a brand new Nano SIM direct from the network and works stably in 4G on my Nexus 5 (with a nano to micro adaptor).
Managed to get 4G/4G+ working for a while yesterday and today, but has now stopped working again.
Get a message everytime the phone boots re. network manager (as posted in OP), which doesn't seem right to me. Also finding it still drops all network connections from time to time and even switched off totally at one point today. I've gone back to the retailer requesting a return either for full refund or exchange for replacement.
What was the outcome?

Thanks for your posts Alan I am having similar issues with 1 day old Galaxy S6 dual sim in Australia with Telstra.
- Phone loses connection to carrier (both) from time to time - especially if in the sim manager screen but also just randomly
- It looks like it is seeking a network - like polling through different bands
- if i watch it for a while i can often catch it doing this
- on 4 occasions in a day this has then reboot the phone
- it has not yet dropped out during a call - not sure if this is just luck
- I am asking for it to be declared DOA but not sure how that will go yet
I was wondering if you returned or swapped your phone or found a fix.
Thanks
Dodgyd-AU
Sadly that sounds pretty similar to my experience I ended up returning it (although am having ongoing issues with the retailer, Expansys, in getting a full refund!) and subsequently bought a single SIM model direct from Samsung.
