Access ROM (S3C2410X) - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
i've got a Maqma MQ-NV701 (PNA) and it has a S3C2410X prozessor (samsung)!
My question is, is it possible to access the ROM (files in it) via USB ?
Because i've got no access to the Win CE 5.0 desktop,
any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Marius

activesync does not allow you to view these files, but it is possible to see the regitry through third party programs......
So to answer, yes i'm sure it is possible but not through any software i am aware of.
(unless you do a dump of the rom of course)
Just download total commander on your ppc and you can "access" the files from that.

----------SOLVED------------
I got an image from a japanese company who still produce that device! Thanks anyway!

UK T-Mobile MDA Compact - ROM Upgrade

I've read through a few threads/posts and think I've figured out what I need to do. Would appreciate someone telling me I'm on the right track.
What I've got:
UK T-Mobile MDA Compact
ROM 1.01.00 WWE
Radio 1.00.10
Ext ROM 1.01.128 WWE
What I want to do:
Upgrade to latest, safest ROM without destroying GPRS and other connectivity (or anything really)
Not end up with a doorstop
Upgrade using USB
What I've downloaded:
WWE_11200_128_11210_ship (seems a nice safe ROM)
What I'm going to do:
- connect via USB
- connect power (or is the USB power ok by itself?)
- run the exe file
- watch it upgrade....
So - is that it? Or do I still have to do all the other things (overwriting bytes, extracting, etc, etc).
And will T-Mobile still talk to me....? Or more to the point - can I restore the existing ROM (I think there's a ROM backup utility on the FTP site)?
Thanks in advance (and try not to mutter 'dumb newbie' too often).
Cheers

Sadly it didn't
When I tried the using the browser I got this;

FTP Folder Error
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

You've got to give more info on your situation. What browser are you using? Dit you type "ftp://xda:[email protected]" instead of "ftp://xda-....." ? Do you use a firewall (from windows)? etc. etc.
It's not a problem of the server. It's up. I logged in using IExplorer just a minute ago.
If nothing works, just use a ftp-client.

I just clicked on the links shown in this thread. Haven't typed anything!
I have problems with the FTP also.

The server is a little bit slow sometimes (this is the best place for all the xda stuff  )
Connection problems can occur when u use a router for your internet connection. If so, make sure you open and forward the ports (21 and 20 ) for FTP to your PC in the router management. Make also sure that your firewall opens these ports.
Furthermore it's better to enter the settings manually in the FTP-client program.

This thread appears to have become a 'how to access the ftp site'.
I am also trying to put together in my head at least the best way to upgrade my rom, which is more or less the same as yours!
I did manage to down load the lastest rom and unpacked it, but which exe file are you talking about?
The method that seem to stick for me, is to copy the nb1 file on to a sd card, going to boot mode, etc, etc.
But I am worried about do something to my sd card in the process!
Hmm lads, lets all get back on track I have covered this in previous posts
I recently upgraded a colleagues MDA compact (an untouched TMobile 101 build) with the 112_172 build its actually the Orange MDA build from Holland. But very good.
Bear in mind keep your programs that you installed handy as you will need to re-install them .
- Extract the shipped ROM.exe files to a folder for instance MDA112, this will leave 6-8 files in the folder with radio.nb1 etc. This can be done by WinRAR or WinZip
- Connect to ftp site ftp://xda:[email protected]/Magician/
- Copy the MA_upgrade_NoID file from the ftp site (Tools folder) to the MDA folder on your PC/Laptop
- Plug in USB connector to MDA
- Backup your relevant contacts etc
- Disable ActiveSync USB connections
- Go to bootloader mode Camera-Power-SoftReset All 3 actions together, USB will be displayed , very faint, on the MDA screen
- VERY important: Run the MDA UpgradeNOID.exe file(this will ignore country code errors that you will receive normally) in the MDA folder you created and deposited the extracted files from the ROM image
- wait 20-30 minutes and
- hey presto you have a new ROM on the MDA.
- re-enable ActiveSync USB connections
You should be done
i am getting all kind of annoying messages about ruu dll not found...what is this and where do i find it?
solved but now i have the rom upgrade utility error 150...
anyone ?
I too am getting the "rom upgrade utility error 150" after carefully following the instructions for upgarding a T-mobile phone from the same ROM version.
I am wondering whether it is necessary to follow some kind of installation path? What I mean is, maybe it is not possible to jump from the shipped ROM (1.01) to the latest version.
Might need to stagger the upgade?
Did yourworldanywhere have any luck with his upgrade, cos that was the exact same install that I am trying.
Cheers

Pvplayer-for XDA mini?

I have my device from O2, so got no pvplayer on it.Download from 'pvplayer.com'-is not possible because is a copyrighted file that Orange devices include. So how to get it?I hope somone got an idea because i really need it.I think there is a version for Pc too!
I remember a thread a while ago that was discussing how to avoid installing these "first boot" progs, it mentioned that you reset the handset at a certain point through the setup, the handset then wont install the cabs and it will just leave them in the memory somewhere, I need to find someone who has / is prepared (M500 for example) to do this and copy the .cabs to a computer who could send me the right cab, and hey presto.
Thanks...

Installing programmes on WM2005

Upgraded XDA2 running 2003 to an XDA Mini S running 2005. Programmes that I previously had running on 2003 (Amirsys/Elsevier -Pocket Radiologist series). Despite many suggestions and help from Elseviers techies in St Louis they now think it's an incompatibility that cannot be overcome. Has anyone any experience of patches etc or are these programmes now completely useless.
Having said that, I find the functionality of 2005 good with calls made and taken whilst running TomTom 5.21 - which is a vast improvement!
I think the only way is to watch out for a new version which is WM 5 compatible.
But I don't understand how u can make an XDA 2 to an XDA mini s with an rom upgrade? I think u mean something different.
cu
No. I've changed my XDA2 to an XDA Mini S (wizard) which is why I'm now using WM5. Kind of wish I'd stuck with WM3.
Looked in profiles but no option for newer phones

Hello k.griffin (& anyone else who is trying to get the Amirsys soft running under WM5),
I have some "older" programs that won't run on my new Wizard as well (including your example of Amirsys Pocket Radiologist, and, e.g. a PPC dictation program). I think this is an issue for everyone trying to migrate software to WM5 devices, and it is primarily associated with the new flash architecture of WM5.
I posted some questions regarding the Pocket Radiologist software to Elsevier, too. They said a WM5 version is being prepared but nothing has happend for quite a while now.
Interestingly, I have read forum posts that claim that by chance some people had discovered this software (and several other programs that usually can't cope with the WM5 flash architecture) will run after installing the "Arabizer" suite. This is said to be associated with changes in flash memory handling when this peculiar package is installed.
So my question to everyone who is familiar with WM5 and its memory structure: how plausible is that (at the moment I am thinking of ~1% ) ? I am rather unwilling to check it out blindly, because I am not fond of getting into long hours of installing and uninstalling tools for arabic character sets [that I don't need..] in vain..
Can anybody provide some statements on that ?
there is a hack for pocketradiologist so it work with wm5,
let me search it in my harddisk and will post it,but its seem its illegal
Arabizer
I installed Arabizer, but it doesn't makes a difference !
Who has the magical hack or can fix it in the registry ?

AFAIK the file "MSDAERES.DLL" is part of M$ VB runtime for PPC.
I will try to install it on my PDA this afternoon and let you know.
cheers.
I was able to install pocket radiologist without any problem.
First I installed ADOCE.WM5.CAB, then READER APPLICATION.PPC_2577.CAB and CHEST 100.PPC_2577.CAB.
It's quite good except the radiographs are quite small on PDA screen.
What operating system is on your PDA?
cheers.

Hi ttangcho,
thanks for replying. My operating system is WM5. My pda is a qtek 9000 with Spanish Rom. I tried making a soft reset before installing it, and later I tried a hard reset getting the same message in both actions.
I first tried to install ADOCEforMIMSonPDA from WM5 file but i got that message. So couldn´t keep on going.
What would you recomend me?
Thanks in advance buddy

I'm using WM5 WWE and I installed it after hard reset.
Try to install Ms VB Runtime on your device first. This VB runtime includes "MSDAERES.DLL". I hope this work. By the way, I installed it successfully without VB runtime.

Good to hear that you were able to install the program. VB runtime is way too big to put in the main memory. If you want to install VB runtime on the RAMdisk or SD card, do the followings.
1. Create "\RAMdisk\Windows" directory
2. Open your reg edit program and add \RAMdisk\Windows\ in the SystemPath
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=\RAMdisk\Windows\ \Windows\..............
(Note. this is Multi_SZ)
or you can cut and paste the following and add to your registry.
----------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=hex(7):5c,5c,52,41,4d,64,69,73,6b,5c,5c,57,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,\
5c,00,5c,5c,77,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,5c,6f,65,6d,5c,5c,00,5c,5c,52,65,6c,65,\
61,73,65,5c,5c,00,00,00,00
----------------------------------------------------
3. Soft Reset using SOFTWARE or power off and on couple of times and soft reset using your stylus.
4. Install VB run time on your RAMdisk.
This is how I did in order to install VB Runtime (3MB) and M$ .NET Compact platform 2.0 SP1(2.2MB) on the RAMdisk.
Cheers!

thanks you all buddies, it worked, at the end, but worked!!!

Hi, the link is not working any more,.

Make rom file from PND?

Dear,
I am new on this forum therefore I do apologyze if I am posting at the wrong place
I have a nearly no name GPS (Magnum PND 2735) with Navigon on it.
It has Windows CE 5.0 on it (some references if it can help/ 00039-267-519-955 and X11-1532).
On the internet I found a program called MioPocket (MP, I can't post a link here, google will find it easyly for you). It allows you to get acces to the OS of your GPS and also allows to use other GPS programs (with a handy user interface).
Now I first used an older version of it with no problem. Then I installed the latest version and I had some troubles with some softwares so I decided to remove it again an reinstall it. Unfortunately it must have gone wrong; Now the GPs does not start, I have the startup screen working and then nothing starts. I suppose some drivers must have been deleted.
Now I have acces to my GPS with a USB cable to my computer. I have acces to the root of the GPS (Windows) but a lot of files are secured.
I have a friend with exactly the same GPS. He copied a maximum of files (able to copie) for me but it didn't work.
As a lot of files a locked I looked out for a rom file but did not find one. After a lot of research I found this friendly forum. I know my problem has not to do with HTC phones but the solution might be the same.
I would like to know if it would be possible (and how) to make a rom file from the OS on my friend's GPS and then how to install it to my GPS.
Is there specific software requested? Is there a procedure on how to make a rom file from a mobile device? Is it possible to make a rom file from any mobile device?
I do hope anyone can help me, I was so happy with my GPS.
First of all I thank everyone on this forum, you are all friendly and helpful.

[Q] Is there a way to execute .reg file on lumia710

It's too much to add them one by one.
This reg file is size 30Kb.
My phone is fully unlock
what exactly are you trying to do that requires you to apply a 30Kb registry change to your phone?
A possible sollution would be to cook your own custom rom with these changes already applied but that's not a trivial task.
For HTC phones the network setup app used to be exploitable in the past to apply registry changes via a provxml file. I am not sure if nokias own network setup is exploitable in a similar manner.

I trying to add native keyboard by myself.
If you've got a full unlock you could try to run WM Device Connector and use any CE Remote Tool for the job. They can usually do this.

Can we use these tools to edit registry on Developer-Unlocked devices? And please provide links and little details for these tools.
No. As I wrote, you need a full unlock, a developer unlock is too limited For links to then, use the search function.
Point is, unless you run a custom rom, you can't use them. If you've got such - which I assumed OP has if he asks such a question, that might be the best way.

These tools are not working. It's too old and can't running on Windows7 cause Activesync not available for Windows7.
I should find another way
It maybe cooking rom or running provxml or something.

Hm, no. You need to install this (64-bit) or this (32-bit). WMDC works fine on Windows 7 and even 8.
For registry editing, try this software then. It's a bit old and spits some errors for me (Windows 8 here) if I run it as-is, but with compatibility mode enabled it works very well.
That's very kind of you. :good:
