Best Finger control rom - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Hey guys, I am looking for the best Rom for when it comes to using just your finger and not stylus. I hate having to take out the stylus every time I need to do something on my phone. What are your thoughts on the best Rom for this? Or maybe it would just be a stripped down rom, and you have a better program for it? Let me hear your thoughts!

You might as well get out a knife and sharpen your finger. No matter how cool the Manila 2D interface is, (or its predecessor, HTC Home), they all break down once you launch a Windows application.
To quote Pushing Daisies: "The facts are these:"
Windows CE was originally written for d-pad operation
In most Windows CE apps, you can still use a d-pad and/or softkeys in lieu of touching the screen
Core Windows apps will probably never live down the use of a stylus. My recommendation is to buy a decent quality dual-operation pen/stylus. I nearly always need a pen for something at work. As long as I don't let anyone else use it (read: steal it), it's always handy.

Currently I am using S.V.I's Hornet Manila Beta 3.8.
I am using my Wizard for internet browsing, viewing my e-mail, working on Word, Excel & Powerpoint documents, playing some games & ofcourse for speaking & messaging.
I am doing all the above with my finger & the D-pad. I use the stylus only for some games.-

iphone finger menu scrolling

Basically I wasn't overly impressed when I saw the iphone in terms of what it did, because it doesn't do anything my WM5 doesn't. the only thing I was impressed at was the interface, the total touch screen etc(altho it is missing a qwerty key board which I couldn't live with out). One part of the touch screen interface that I was the most impressed with was the finger dragging, scrolling! But this can be done on WM5 devices because I've already downloaded Sygic's .mobile which allows you to do it through your contacts.
So Basically I'm sure that one of the many clever programmers on here could write a little program that allows you to use finger scrolling where ever a scroll bar is needed? I.e. file emplorer, music menu(windows media player), text message list, photos, etc.
Or if someone knows where I could get such a program from?
Thanks
this would be sweet because we windows fans wouldn't have to convert to the darkside.
just like the early dayds of apple.....microsoft swoops in and reinvents the game. but only thing it aint microsoft doing this.
why buy a new phone when u can take the guts of it and dump it into your own
good job on the programers you guys rock.
Check this video out, the guy has done just that!
http://techdigest.tv/2007/02/watch_the_iphon.html
I've seen that video already, but thanks. it was that and the program .mobile that made me hope that someone on here would be able to do it for the rest of the windows mobile platform! if I was talented enough I'd do it myself but this is way beyond me. i just think it would be a great to be able to navigate menus and list and make life a lot easier.
Can we download it from somewhere?
Download What?
that GUI seen on that video.
the best program to make it look like that is wisbar desktop but it costs! has for the menu scrolling i haven't got a clue thats why i was hoping someone may be able to write a program on here for it

Agree, i used the wisbar advance, but the scrolling gui was amazing!
I am wondering how he did it?
it was, but i don't know how he did it! i know you can down load a program called .mobile and that allows you to scroll through your contact like that, so it clearly can be done! so someone must be able to do it for the rest of the phone?!??!
What is it that can or can't be done guys?
Picsel Browser uses momentum based full screen drag scrolling, amongst other apps. It's not a difficult thing to do. The implementation in the video is particularly nice (if not particularly useful IMHO), but it's not some kind of mystical voodoo. It's just programming.
V
vijay,
I don't think you would be capable of doing this, no way....
(ps: please, please rise to the challenge!)
On a serious note the Universal lacks a scroll wheel which I have always had on my previous PDAs. To be able to have a generic touchscreen based scrolling mechanism would be very useful (ie not just for tracks and contacts, but for everything).
Can anyone post a link to the download of this?
slider lock feature.....
Guys,
According to his website, before it was suspended...
He says he was using
PPL1.20. PPL which can be downloaded for free from http://arianesoft.ca
I downoaded this but have no idea on how to use it to get the same results?
Anyone interested in getting the slider lock portion of that video working?

As explained by Vijay this is just programming. If you dont have programming skills, just forget it. If you do then the technical part is not that difficult. The whole point is more about doinga nice design
Anyway let's hope he will make is work public (The scrolling bar is one thing, but the whole setup is actually nice...)
If anyone has this (doubt the guy gave it out before he got shut down) but in case he did... i would like to get my hands on this...
the point of me starting this thread was to see if anyone on here knew where I could get a program that would allow me to scroll all the menus and lists in my WM5 by dragging my finger across the screen, if there wasn't already a program out there then I wondered if someone could write a program for it? as my skills in this area are nowhere near good enough! I think a program like this with look great but more importantly be really useful, as I use my finger to navigate through most of my phone.
if this is just programing, please can someone with the skills do it????
Thanks
the m600-iphone clon demovideo is no longer available at youtube....
the apple tentacles are very lengths...
INTERESTINGLY.. this guy is a Malaysian (Chinese). . and I would have thought such geeky move ought to be from the States.
well i have a spare wizard to try this on if some one can direct me on what software to use. i have some spare time lol

TouchPad in Raphael as Mouse-Control?

Hi everyone.
I have my new Touch Pro and i saw it have a "full" TouchPad under the Screen.
My question is, might it be possible to display a Mouse-courser and control it with this TouchPad?
I dont know if this is usefull.
Badly i never coded for Windows Mobile, so is someone thinking this would be a nice application and want to code something like this?
Maybe if i get this damn Microsoft Visual Express Edition running, i will try something myself.
//Edit: just like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpKQOP9LJRU
It's a good idea, the touchpad is even multi-touch capable...
hate it on i900...
could be more interesting on touch pro/diamond, since the surface is larger
Hi everyone Im using remote touch for this. take a look at that freeware on this site here. as it is a beta there is no further guide on how to use this tool. anyway figure it out for yourself. it works for me, not always but it does most of the time.
have fun
hm.
maybe you did not understand me or i dont know if remote touch can control a mouse on your PocketPC and not on your Desktop PC.
best look at the movie in my first post to get a impression how i was thinking for a use of this touchPad.
Yes, like Samsung-i900 (Omnia). It's possible?
i think it is possible (but i am really new in WinCE developing).
I have finaly succesfully installed an IDE on my Work-PC.
And i think i also found somethink to move the "mouse".
Now i only need to install the IDE on my Home PC, loading DLLs into the program and i need to look into the SDK for the TouchPad. (Badly i have read that it has only one event that reads the rotations? this would be bad.)
Of course it would be faster if someone that is a lot more experienced in WinCE developing would try it.
Hello, I was the first one to come up with this idea. Check it out here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431522
Is it possible to make the area around the Dpad as touch buttons (touching the up button = pressing the up button, etc)? Since the Dpad is hard to press, it makes some games kinda unplayable...

HTC Touch Pro or HTC Touch HD?

Hi guys,
I'm trying to pick between the two. The main problem I'm having is whether I'll miss having a physical keyboard. As I wont be able to have a play with either of these phones before I make a purchase I want to be completely sure that I'm picking the phone I'm going to prefer.
So whats your opinion? Is the HD's keyboard suitable for you?
Do you miss playing silly small games on your HD? How are games on the Pro?
Also another important thing for me is the performance, I heard the Diamond can be quite laggy (With the Touchflow, which I plan on turning off anyway) but I would still like to know if the Pro is just as bad as the Diamond, and whether the HD is a significant improvement!
Cheers,
Luke
diamond rocks
There is a small lag , BUt it again depends on wether the ROM is a light one or a packed one . There are many out here , lighter ones ..for eg V7 , and there is one other fact about these phones , that if you do have a lot of calender enteries and contacts ...it lags a little ...
Calender entries aren't a big deal, don't tend to take full advantage of the calender. Though I do have 60+ contacts.
Have Diamond and I like it but wish I'd waited for the HD. I don't miss the keyboard from the hermes much as I expected.
Keyboard
I'm using a Herald. During some days I used the Diamond keyboard SIP, but after a hard-reset I did not install it again.
I'm using the physical keyboard when sitting or stopping in a comfortable place (office, train, restaurant) and I must work a lot (i.e. writing some project memories or preparing some lectures); on other cases, I usually try to use the stylus. When at building, I fear about missing the stylus (or maybe missing myself) in some concrete reservoir or some hole, so I liked to use the Diamond keyboard SIP, to write some small notes. So, my experience is I use keyboard about 30% of my time.
Looking the HD and the Pro specifications, I suppose they don't defer more than in design and small details.
If you need to work as "at home", I suggest you to get the device with built-in keyboard.
Thanks for the replys guys.
As I do a fair amount of blogging and web browsing I have been thinking that the Pro might be best suited for me, but on the other hand I do use remote desktop a lot (From work to my home PC) so being able to use remote desktop "On-the-go" would be rather handy especially on the large screen of the HD.
Another question I have is how often do you Pro and Diamond users make use of the D-pad? It doesn't seem like it would have very much use on a touch screen WM device.
D-Pad? Hardly ever.

WM weak spots

Heya
Like any OS< I'm pretty sure WM has some drawbacks.
For example the default file explorer.
Which aspects of WM are 'must-replace'?
(Note: I'm getting a HTC Touch 3G soon, so I'll already have TF2D/M2D)
Thanks in advance!
Thats a matter of personal taste
Which is what is great about this platform, we can make it what we want. Take the Today screen for instance. Almost everyone changes it, but each of us does something different with it. Some go for something like Pocket Informant, or SPB diary or some onther plug in that packs as much info and control functions on that screen as possible. Others (like myself) prefer a much more simple, finger friendly layout, with all of the info a click or two away. I'm using the wm 6.5 skin for SPBMS right now and loving it.
I will say that you will want additional internet browsers and media players for sure, but which ones are right for you is your call. What some consider a weak spot, others might consider a feature. My advice is to dive in and install a bunch of stuff, and see where it takes you. There is so much available, and most of it is free, that you can make your device look and feel right for you.

Worms World Party Works! :)

hello guys, i was very sad that worms world party is not working on my Topaz device. that's why i 've decided to make simple application - keyboard - to emulate hardware keyboard my keyboard is very simple and it shows in the bottom of the screen (worms are 640*480 so there is free space on the bottom). it was made in 2 hours or something so take it as very alpha build but it works fine for me and i want to share my app with all worms fans
Install notes:
1. put keypad.exe to your topaz.
2. run keypad.exe
3. run worms world party from jamdat.. google for it
4. go to options and assign buttons to fire, jump and flip (X button is used to exit keypad at the moment).
5. play and enjoy!!
there is some flickering window title when pressing buttons. i will fix it later.
awaiting your feedback guys.
2009/08/19 EDIT: changed keypad skin and some bugs fixed.
ok, the pad with the arrow keys and stuff works fine for blackstone. However, it seems that worms does not work with wm6.5. And correct my if i'm wrong, what your app does is to 'simulate' a dpad with buttons right? so could you make one which can be configured to run alongside other games? That way we'll get more vga games running on our wvga devices.
now it's sending fake keyboard messages to worms application. but it's not a problem to make it for any other application. also i'm working on better skin and bigger buttons to make it more finger friendly. if you know a game which needs virtual keypad, tell me and i can make it. and back to worms - i'm using WM6.1 so dunno if it runs on WM6.5
i've got one, erm.. skyforce.
it works for me too - thx
what program language did u use for this? and plz make a bigger screen this is hard to use
Virtual d-pad is really good idea for games. have a nice develop.
hello again. i have updated keypad a little. new design and little bugs fixed. link is in first post.
TeDeV: i'm using c++.. it's all about winapi..
info5i2002: i've tried skyforce and it's not working good. game recieves only some of messages that keypad is sending. i need to investigate why... maybe it will be better to just let user enter name of the window to keypad application and it will send messages to that window. to play any game. i'm busy these days so be patient play worms in the meantime
Hey. If it isn't too much trouble (it isn't), can you compile a Windows CE 5.0 version? You have no idea how much this would help owners of other non-Pocket PC WinCE devices like the Mio C520 or other hacked portable nav units which lack the hardware buttons for games.
As you can see in the screenshot, the exe you posted doesn't currently run on plain Windows CE 5.0 devices. I've found that this is due to a bug/"feature" of the kernel related to buffer underrun protection and some sort of incompatablity with the compiler defaults in the WM5 SDK. It's an easy fix on your end. Just set /GS- in your projects compile settings.
see here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8dbf701c(VS.80).aspx for more information.
Also, I had to manually lower the Windows CE os version to even get it far enough for this screenshot. Can you please set /subsystem:windowsce,4.20 in the linker command line options for future builds? Hell, make it 3.0. This sort of app will probably still run on Pocket PC 2002 (CE 3.0) or at least CE 4.2. More info here: http://windowsmobilepro.blogspot.com/2006/04/trap-of-copying-project-settings-in.html
It's simple to do and it has the added benefit of exposing your app to many more devices. I'm sure the owners of "other" buttonless 800x480 devices like the Ipaq 310 will thank you.
Also, can you look into supporting other, lower resolutions like 320x240, 400x240, 640x480 or 480x272(most WinCE nav units) or just alow it to scale to anything? It seems offscreen on a VGA PPC. How about landscape/side buttons and the ability to remap buttons? Thanks.
TFGBD: Hello. i agree with everything you wrote. sure, there is no problem to compile for CE and i also have C520. but application is not so smart at the moment to run in those resolutions. i'm afraid it works only for games that are not fullscreen and there is blank space on the screen for keypad. like worms on 480x800. but on device with 480*640 resolution i will have to overlap game window and that is the problem. when i was was writing this app it was only for worms because i love that game and it wasn't playable on TD2. i wasn't thinking about other games not even other devices and resolutions. but it is a good idea. i think i will have some time during weekend so maybe i will take a deeper look into the topic and find out something "portable". anyway, thank you for feedback if you know some mio C520 game that needs keyboard, tell me please. it may help
Heh, I didn't count on you already owning a WinCE PNA. Funny, that. Well, there's always Worms World Party... Granted, I never actually tried it on the Cx20 but I imagine its QVGA version has plenty of extra space on a 480x272 screen. That and like half of the other popular Pocket PC titles. Really, it sucks that so many of these games were hardcoded for 240x320(or upscaled VGA). It really makes them look crappy on higher resolution devices. But I guess it at least lets them leave space at the bottom of the screen for your d-pad. And yeah, you are probably right that it wouldn't be too useful on the more standard resolutions like QVGA/VGA. There are probably more widescreen devices without buttons than standard res ones anyway. Well, unless maybe you want to play 176x220 Smartphone games on a QVGA Pocket PC...
hehe, well, i'm working in mobile navigation software development company and i have around 30 different devices around i've just testet worms on GoClever 4390T device similar to C520 (480x272 @ winCE) and it runs great and there is really plenty of space left on side. ideal for my keypad.. and there is much more space than on my TD2 better for finger use. i'll give it a try on sathurday.

Your device is VGA? This only works on WVGA screens, because there is empty space while running WWP (that is originally QVGA)
Not sure..
Btw, I dowload key config 1.0 from another thread and used that to save WWPSave.dat... Now I can Fire and Jump (i.e. use two buttons, volume up and down... no other is working)
Cute keypad but doesn t work with me... I don t know why i can see it in the game but it doesn t want to work ... but anyway nice to know that there are so much worms addicts

do you have touch diamond 2? if yes, what version of worms do you use? keypad is looking for window with "Light" in its title. it's because my worms creates window with this title. if your worms window has different title, tell me, and i will add support for your worms window.
