Sliding Panel Plugin - Task App - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

Hello,
This is a program that uses polling to check if tasks have been changed and then posts the changes to the homescreen. Written in managed C# code. We will start the most recent version as v0.0.1 because i have done several changes since the beginning of the project and none of them were documented we will consider this as the base version and will build from there.
---(VERSION 0.0.1.5)---
fixed problem from 0.0.1.4 were it would try to delete a registry key subtree that would not be there because it was the first time running the program.
---(REQUIREMENTS)---
Windows Mobile 6.1 Enabled Smartphone
---(INSTALLATION)---
The One Step Installation
(since im new and don't know how to create a .cab its just an executable)
-unzip the .exe into a directory and execute.(Technically this could be 2 steps but im going to consolidate them into one because they are quite simple.)
---(CURRENTLY KNOWN PROBLEMS)---
Known problems that I am trying to work on.
-There have been accounts of the homescreen locking up with users using NRG Mini Weather.(Not sure if there could be a solution to this so if you have this program there may be possible problems. If you don't experience problems please leave comments.)
-When the selected task is selected and the middle button is pressed it takes the user to the tasks screen and not to the selected task.(Currently it is just executing the tasks.exe programn, but im still working on a way to change this).

(and yes that plump bust is mine)

Could you please post a screen shot?!

Hey unknown man
about my previous post. I've got one real task, but there are three pages. one real task, and two that say 'create new task' this is on 0.0.0.9
I'll update and see what happens.

I know the update fixed my problems but please respond as to if they had fixed yours please.

on Ricky's 1.6 remake of NRG's rom, the 1.5 really freezes everything. I put it on my phone, rebooted, opened file explorer, 1. the icon/Chomeplugin flickers like crazy, 2. the loading pie never disappears 3. when i click home, i can go back to the home screen, and the panel works great, my bug with the # of tasks shown is resolved. When I click edit task, it goes to tasks, 4. but as soon as i do anything (clicking on the tasks themselves, clicking menu button) Tasks freezes. 4. Celetask, file explorer, and Tasks are all frozen.
I'm gonna say that this app or vice versa the ROM are not ready for each other. What Rom you running unknownman? I may go back to Ricky Rom v24, I'm just unhappy with how many problems are in my current one.
[edit] a second reboot yields better results, it doesnt freeze anymore.

the rom im using is the one that was stock with my Pantech Duo. So im not using any cooked roms.

Unknownman, thanks so much for your hard work on this application! I will be installing this tomorrow hopefully and I will hopefully find some bugs for you to squash.
Also, very noobish question, but when you come out with a new version, do you just run the exe again, or have to uninstall the previous?

As it currently stands when you need to get a new version either reboot your phone or shut down the app by creating a task with the subject line of "shutdown" without the quotes. Ill add that to the instructions when i release a new version.

Things are going great on 0.0.1.5 (?). Quick question though; I use Agenda One to handle tasks and such. Is there a way to allow the tasks panels to link to Agenda One's task creator/manager instead of the default WM task creator/manager?
Another quick question: Does anyone know how to set WM to look beyond "tomorrow" for appointments? It would be nice if we can set how many days in advance to see the upcoming appointments. I used Facade previously, but it doesn't work with the Sliding Panels. Any ideas?

Just a quick note. I have created tasks but once they have been completed, they do not disappear from the panels. Is this still a problem?

Ummm... i dont believe this was ever a problem. If you could please check to see if the ChomePlugin.exe is still running in the processes on your task manager in you phone. Could you also please explain if you are using a third party app for task support or if you have any other 3rd party apps running like NRG. Thanks.

Ahh, yes, that was the problem. The Chome plugin wasn't running. However, when I go to launch ChomePlugin.exe through Resco Explorer, the wheel just spins and doesn't go away. The program still launches because it is working, but I'm not sure if this is supposed to stay like that or not. I don't have NRG loaded. I do use Agenda One for calendar/contacts/tasks, etc.
Another quick thing. When I go into Chome Configurator, it get an invalid operation exception message. Any ideas? Thanks!

Justa quick note. I am getting an error coming up saying "ChomePlugin.exe experienced an error. Plase restart the program." The details are "IndexOutOfRangeException at CHomePlugin.TempTask.CreateTempTask(Page p) at CHomePlugin.Program.run()" Trying to restart it gets the same message.

I will take a look at that... first of all could you tell me the tasks that you currently have shown on your task panel plugin because thats where the error is. And did you use ChomeConfigurator to edit any of the listed panels?

Here is what I had in the tasks section: One that ended today. One that had been completed a week ago. And one that is due 3 days from today. Clearing the one that ended today and the one completed a week ago allowed the program to run now. No program error anymore.
I used Chome Configurator to change the order of the panels but no new ones or changes to the details.

I tried this before when you introduced it in the Excalibur forum. Just tried it again to see how the update works, but it blanks out my homescreen. Wasnt there a companion app that refreshed the home screen?

I am currently going to hault updates on this application untill the new year because im going to learn mobile application development in C++. Shouldn't take me south of a month or two. Then i will be able to update the homescreen like NRG does without refreshing the whole homescreen. Ill keep everyone posted on any updates.
Thanks again for the support.(Even though I didn't collect my money from the people who said they would give $10...j/k)

It'd be great if we could work on this some more once you have some more time. Don't feel rushed, please... We know you are doing this on your own time.

Any more developments coming for this great app?

BACK IN BLACK
Hello everyone,
Today is my B-Day.
I am posting Version 1 of my rom (finally)
I have reworked quite a few things. I wish there was more I could do, but time is hard to come by.Screenshot Here: (why can"t I get it to show animated gif"s !?!?!?!)
So here is the Live Free version of my rom; and it includes the following:
>Splash Screen 1 and 2 and bootscreen. (only the welcomehead is "branded" as I know that some of you may want to switch roms eventualy)
>10 Button Comm Manager (by me)
newExplorer
With extended functions: tap and hold to activate context menu and options. It will always start up default mode until you start you the context menu
>SRS WOW
pBar 1.5
Enabled by default to close programs. you will have to personalize the settings by tapping the today screen upper right corner (4th icon from the top right opens up optios)
ESMERTEC JBED 20080222.3.1 (for opera mini. Download from the Opera Website. I recomend 4.1beta)
Today Agenda To be activated in TodayMeny Options. (I left the today screen blank for memory reasons, + I hate to have my phone start up with useless things after flashing.Slows things at first boot)
ArcSoft MMS 4.2.8.1
Network Wizard In Settings\Connections to set up data and mms.
Camera 3(25498) (by the way, I am working to update this thing eventually)
Smartskey Press and hold soft keys to access start menu and exit button without stilus
Office 2007 complete with OneNote and Notes
Internet Sharing (GPRS internet to PC. recomend "...DataWmodemlink")
WM5torage 1.78b2 To use the phone like a card reader (speeds copying files by my observation)
1Calc (replaced standard calc in menu. The old it is in windows directory)
MS Voice Command (enabled by default = button 4)
Touch Scrolling (not cube) allows to close the Xbutton with finger, and fixes a lot of the screen issues.
BlackBars.exe included in the windows directory. (I forgot to disable running it in customizations. It is there in case you want to switch the theme back)
Registry hacks. larger cache and better performance (ate up about 3mb but runs VERY smooth)
FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS:YOU MUST BE CID AND SIM UNLOCKED
G3/G4 Safe
I recommend using the old update utility; however I included the new XP and VISTA.
Plug your phone into the computer and start your choice of update utility. It updates slowly and freezes at the beginning and at the end. This is normal.
Flash with your SD card installed. Customization is set up to install off your card if your card has the nesesary setup.
Keep your phone connected to the computer untill the phone reboots after customizations. (I usually have issues if I don't)
First boot seems slow. Just be patient. This thing runs rock solid for me and pretty quick too. It's worth the wait.
Please report bugs (I don't think I overlooked anything... but...)

Addons
I reserve this post in the name of addons!
I could have added them in ROM, But that would have been a waste of space.
Also, This will be a place for fixes:
In the first download you get:
Fixes:
SRS-WOW registry fix (I just noticed the bug)
ampda_camera Speckle fix (I forgot)
HTC Power Management cab (turns on power management for everything -SDcard)
sd-battery-save cab (Turns on power management for SD card with some side-effects)
Show Sim Contacts cab (if all of your phone numbers are on SIM card and not in outlook)
Apps:
Opera Mini 4 (.jad means that you have to install it through the EsmertecJava)
PocketXpdf (recomend installing on storage card. it can run standalone)
vp3G-HTC_X-Button_1.5 (the usual task manager/today plugin... I don't know why you'd want it)
Windows live (some version. I forgot. stopped using it completely. You should download from M$)
AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0
BatteryStatusExt.1.05.UPXed Beta Overclock/today plugin/many features
Clear Temp cab (I recomend putting it on storage card. it can run standalone)
FlashPlayer7 cab (I hope they come out with a new version soon)
Fring (the most stable version of the all in one messenger and skype phone plugin.)
HTC AudioManager today plugin. (plays music from today screen.)
HTC Streaming media (too big to put in oem. I had to cut it)
OEM Spite Backup v5.1cab (I don't know if it really works. never had to use it. try it before relying on it)
Standalone apps: (no cabs) I recomend running these off the storage card.
magic ss.exe (screenshot utility: make a shortcut to Windows\startMenu\Programs\ ; Then assign button)
Task Manager 2.9 (all in one task manager and registry editor. If I post registry fixes.zip then yoou will need to use it to import those registry settings.
Extended Rom Utility: Unlocks/Locks your extended rom

It does not have IPL/SPL
the partitions it does have:
HTC_logo.nb
Splash.nb
OS.nb
I believe that is G4 safe, But ask on the G4 forum fist before flashing. Please let me know what the answer is so that I can adjust accordingly and upload the OS.nb only.
Thanx for flashing

i will try this rom =] looks very good
What's your favorite collor/Wishlist?
HRUDKA : You want it in bubble gum pink or baby blue?
(you can always change the theme and the phone background)
I stuck to black for this reason: the immage takes up less kb in ram and the os. to make it load the gui faster and smoother. If peple don't like the collors, I will try to change it to something lighter; but there have to be enough people asking.
Eventualy, I would like to make it more of a designer's rom... more art than tech. However, I want to make sure that people really like the functionality of this rom, that everything works and is at least as stable as the original wm5rom. (although 2.25 had a memory leak and had to be reset every other day)
The Wizard was dubbed "The communication powerhouse". That is what I want to take it back to.
Tomorrow while in flight I will be working on it some more
In the mean time, I want to ask you this question:
What do YOU think would make this the communication powerhouse? and What would YOU like to see in this rom?
I haven't made a rom for my self yet. mine will include a multilanguage keyboard, and Photogenics which are both pay software and I can't post here.
If you know of any free programs like these, please let me know, and I will make an "artist" rom as well.
Yes, I got kinda sick of all black all the time. but try asking hundreds of people: "What's your favorite collor?" LOL.
anyways, if you don't like the collor, change your theme. [email protected] knows there are plenty out there!
please let me know what does not work so I can fix it (eventualy I hope to be surpassing Faria's work)
Thanx for flashing
Hi SVI,
I downloaded and tried your original version, and had no issues to speak of. Was a solid, quick rom that met my needs. While not a super user, the items I use such as wifi, tcpmp - yahoo go, etc worked flawlessly.
I will gladly download your latest back to black version, and give it a go - although, must admit, not really worried - if it just the next step to your first release - should be a good one.
You have piqued my interest with your "artist" rom idea, and am eagerly awaiting the progression of this concept. Being a airbrush / mural artist - this concept is right up my alley.
While relatively new to this rom flashing, etc - the cooking process is completely foreign to me. Whereas most of the roms have a little this, or a little that to make them different and stand out from the rest, the software and add-ons are basically the same, or available for all to install. But a visually different concept, or base software available for graphic content is very interesting......
Okay - way off topic here, will download now, flash as soon as I can, and update accordingly.
Happy Birthday Sir - and thanks for your efforts
Have a good one
Bill

lol im not a noob i was just curious to what it looked like. ps. how come everyone uses rapidshare? i think http://www.zshare.net/ is a better option you dont have to wait.
This is a nice Rom. I like the Graphics. The Comm Manager is Brilliant. UC compliant has T-mobile settings set up to install, and I am AT&T, also, The windows live is the newer useless one. It has no messenger. It is for OEM Roms that have there own messnger. I flashed the rom and have been running it since you posted it. Out of your addons, I only installed the Power and battery Tweaks, although I can do that with a Reg editor.
I am in the Minority but I really do not like UC Compliant Roms because when given a choice, I will add what I want and I do not mind all the un-usefull addons. the more you can cram into this rom the better.
This rom is Fast and dependable, but slows down when adding the HTC Home plugin. sometimes it has to think when trying to open Messaging, takes a Few.
I have it overclocked with omap to 240. last rom I didn't need to overclock at all with HTC Home plugin.
Will give more feedback in a fewdays..late Happy Birthday SVI
just got on the plane. I will be adding the att provxml and the network wizard in connection settings does not work?

Just verfied, same issue... I dont usually send MMS so i never exeperimented...
i guess i won't be sending out any **** pics this weekend! sorry ladies.
Nice
I put this on yesterday and am loving it. Thanks for this new ROM.
Can't seem to install HardSPL on my phone. Keep getting error 260!
Hopefully I can get it to work (might have to try another computer with XP, on Vsta x64) and test out this rom.
I'm new here, so I've been doing some searching to figure out my problem. I feel like it's a Vista issue, though.
Thanks for the Rom though, hopefully I get it up and running in a few days on my phone.
picture mail not working here too
Been trying the rom out a few days now. Multimedia messages dont seem to work correctly. I can get sound in them, text, and video, but no jpg's or gifs (reports file type not supported). Is there a cab i can install that'll just write over the one installed or does this have to be fixed in a rom build?
Kitchen
Any chance of a kitchen to build our own ROMs?

Just check and verify your MMS Settings. Not sure why WM 6.5 would break them. Is there a *??? number to call to get your phone set up like with Verizon?
No, with sprint I never have to dial any number to activate the phone even when I had the touch pro, it activates by it self. I was looking at the MMS settings but there is not much I can do there, it wont let me see the settings, change them or even create new . No, with sprint I never have to dial any number to activate the phone even when I had the touch pro, it activates by it self. I was looking at the MMS settings but there is not much I can do there, it wont let me see the settings, change them or even create new . I can only change the retrieve mode and the picture resolution.

I've confirmed this, no #info, sprint does auto activation.
There is a way to force a PRL and Profile Update, all you have to do is go to:
Start - Settings - *Find Device Management* and do a PRL (Prefered Roaming List) update and a Profile Update.
I got an error 1012 when trying to do that, so i called my rep who is going to re-provision my account asap. I'll post back with an update.
sms / mms fix?
okay. the sms program in this rom is an arcsoft variety. You have to run the sda application unlock program (from a pc with the phone hooked up). next you have to download a sprint arcsoft mms cab file (dont know which one i got off hand but it was dated later than feb 09) . i tried to run a removal program before that but it wouldnt instll. anyrate i installed oveer the old one and can now send and recieve picture mail. havent tried other media types yet. composing them is still kinda hard but not to bad if you choose the soft keys to add a contact or file. only problem im having now is they dont show up on the bar that shows missed calls, emails, and texts. the phone still beeps when they arrive though and you can view them. the bubble alert comes also. just the unread conter not working.

[CAB] [8/13] HD2 Android Launcher 4.0~One Icon launches CLRCAD and Haret instantly

Do you hate having to manually launch CLRCAD before you launch HARET? Hate how you can't create one link on your Home Screen that launches Android?Well, now you can! With HD2-AndroidLoader! This application launches HARET and CLRCAD with one click! It does so in less than a second!
Just one icon in the Start Menu does both Jobs at the same time. If you would like, you can even ad that single link to the Home Screen, so you can launch Android in One Click! No user interaction at all (besides clicking on the icon .)

Careful Mode ON at install.
This mode is for those who want to be asked "are you sure you want to boot android" before launching the applications. This saves you from having "Accidents".
"Get Right To It"
HD2-AndroidShortcut-4.0-GRTI.cab
Careful Mode OFF at install.
This mode is for those who want the icon just to launch HARET and CLRCAD without being asked any questions.
Interchangable Modes
If you install the "Get Right To it" CAB, you can enable the accident protection mode by simply going to Start > Tools > Android Launcher > Careful Mode ON.
The Same goes for the Accident Prevention CAB. If you want to Enable the "Get Right To It" Mode, Simply go to Start > Tools > Android Launcher and tap Careful Mode Off.
Why Two CABs?
I made two cabs so users may easily get straight to what they want, without any extra configuration. You still have the option to change modes without re-installing CABs, therefore its easier and more convienent for the end user.
Also, this enables users to install my program using XDA-UC or any other Custom ROM Configuration service (upon install of the ROM).
What's Compatable?
-Android ROMs that place HARET and CLRCAD in /Storage Card
-Android ROMs that place HARET and CLRCAD in /Storage Card/Android
-Android ROMs that place HARET and CLRCAD in /Storage Card/andboot
99% of Android builds are Compatable with this Launcher!
Any Device is Compatable
Install Instructions
1) Install the Android Launcher CAB TO the Device. NOT THE STORAGE CARD
2) Reboot. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
3) Launch Android from your Start Menu

Nothing to argue like a baby, ThaDeanesta. You talk about mskip loader in previous post and I mention Cloudy loader in later post. I myself don't like mskip loader too. But I think Cloudy one is good bc it ask if you wanna start Android, that's all (well, sometime we accident touch the button and your app make it go straight to Android). Except that, it won't ask "ANY THING", the SD card name or something similar.
Ok, it's your thead and your app. You can do whatever you like. I just point you to the same functional app that working.

I understand that. Its just that the other dudes are getting all at me.. its a free app, and they should just take it or leave. Thanks for the suggestion, though! . I made one with a question and one without.
Great App, thank you. ....Dont let the others bother you. ;-)
What do you guys do about the android folder in the root dir ? I have to cut, paste then delete before anything will boot.... Is this just me ?
Thanks to ThaDeanesta for giving us another loader.
I believe all the devs are happy to see some (at least) agreement with their work.
Shame on those who just do nothing contribution except picking this is good/bad...
Nice1. It works, it's free. If people want more they should write their own and let us try it out.

Beautiful app.
I personally use Mskips, as I got it when it first came out, and liked how I could choose where my android is located (i.e. root or android folder).
The good thing about this is choice, and I was thinking about changing the Icon that mskip uses. I commend you on your app.
Just and idea, screenshot of the icon you use??
I can post the icon in the first post

thank you for your hardwork to share with community.. congrats on making it to XDA frontpage too..
I have been using chuckydroid rom and Mattc leo 1.5 froyo.. i use chuckydroid because some people say it eliminated SOD 100%.. I agree.. but now I feel like I can't use Winmo anymore like I used to.. I like to still use full power of winmo and switch to android whenever I want... my question is do you know if I can use full winmo rom with your app to launch android without SOD?
I might be asking in wrong place.. but it seem you are someone able to help me with it.. I appreciate your work and keep up the good work..
thanks.
What about integrating a function into your launcher to turn off telephone function before booting Android. because i realized that you'll loose incoming sms or call while booting. so i normally first turn off telephone (with the button from cookies home tab) an the start haret. would be nice to skip that also . greetings

[Q] currently in the middle of researching....

ok so my wife is getting frustrated with the bloatware/sense reboots on the mt4gs....(I have stressed to her the importance of backing out of apps the correct way and not task killing but I guess old habits die hard...)
At any rate I'm researching/reading through the threads on here and I've got just a few questions that I haven't seen come up yet (in the same iteration that I'm thinking of)
- How much different is this phone from the Sensation z710e? (aside from screen size & physical keyboard)
- I'd like to just root and remove the bloatware and keep the phone stock (no rom install) [ok, she would like it to stay stock, I'm leaning towards bulletproof myself] so the question is:
Is it possible to stay with factory settings after rooting (s-off)/de-bloating this phone so that she can continue to receive o.t.a updates? (odds are though that o.t.a updates may put her to s-on again, possibly)
- Is there a way to exit the internet browser and have it reset, i.e: press home screen after browsing, then go back into internet and have the home screen come up and not last viewed site?
- sorry for my long winded statement/questions I just kind of think of way too many things at once.
- FWIW, the h-boot is 1.44.0007 so I'm fairly certain I'd have no issue using alapharev and the walkthrough guide on here to s-off and root.
- titanium backup is not recommended for the bulletproof rom? that sucks, but Blue must have his/her reasons. ( I think I'm misreading this but I'm not sure yet, there are a lot of 'link-to' posts in the first post of that thread)
- anyone know if any of the following apps aren't working with the themes or the rom? (yeah I know this would be better geared towards the Bp rom thread but why make two separate posts)
+handcent mms (used in place of stock messenger service)
+beautiful widgets HD
+live wallpapers in general

I don't think you will receive ota updates unless u are not rooted, however there are countless apps that will let you remove anything you want once you are rooted.
I would imagine that if you delete the stock messaging app and you are only left with handcent, it will take over everything automatically and you should have no issues... However I wouldn't try that until you made a nandroid backup in clockworkmod recovery

Ota updates will always be posted onto the forums. The latest one turned the phone s-on and unrooted though, so I didn't try it

I think on this one, the only way to solve it will be to stop using a task killer. You shouldn't be having any problems like this, certainly not to the point of being 'frustrated' with it, so it's pretty conclusive that the task killer is your issue.
The problem is that apps don't get to shut down correctly, any data in use either doesn't get cleared or becomes corrupted, and the longer this process continues the worse it gets.
I know it's hard to kill old habits, but she will continue to have a worse and worse Android experience on any device with any ROM as Android grows unless she stops using a task killer.

Yep, you should have no issues, it's pretty straightforward. You can just run the program, flash superuser and be done with it, but I would also recommend installing Rom manager from the market and updated your clockworkmod to the official one for the device.
Might as well update superuser too, but you can then leave it alone and call it done.
Will be stock and fine until an OTA is applied, then you'll probably lose root and possibly the ability to get it back.
You can install bloater and busybox (as per the bloater thread) and be able to remove stock stuff easily with it once you get root.

Some people have used titanium and it's been fine, i'm still on the fence about it.
Issue was I was changing a lot of things, and when people restored app data to things i've changed it caused problems - so the best way to handle that was to say don't use it.
I know the thread is long now for the Bulletproof ROM, but in it there are some pretty detailed instructions on how to use Titanium with the ROM that people generally agree upon. I've never tried it so can't say personally.
I'll eventually put it back in, but i'm pretty busy with work right now and getting time in my dev chair is hard - hopefully i'll get a break in my schedule so I can get some work done soon. You should be able to use it, just don't try to restore any data from another ROM or previous version of Bulletproof and you should be alright.
----
Beautiful widgets HD and live wallpapers work fine, never used handcent so can't say, but don't see why it wouldn't work.
If it ends up not working, post in the thread and i'll fix it.
That right there is what makes xda great. ^^^^^
Thank you.
On a side note, the megaupload site was taken down....so I'm daring to ask the following question: the 'how-to-root guide >>>XDA LINK<<< said to d/l other files instead of the ones from alpharev's site.....they were hosted on megaupload. Now what ? lol
Why can't the files downloaded from alpharev's site work?
I see that in the link, the Op said that it is the adb tools for the MT4GS, why wouldn't the current adb tools I have work/ones d/l from alpharev's site?
I've always used the file from the author, I got it from them when it was first available, and just recently when a friend of mine got this phone.
Always works fine for me, and I would rather use the tool from the original author anyways generally speaking.
When you run Revolutionary tool, either install clockworkmod or not at your choosing, it doesn't matter because when you're done with it all you should go to the market and download ROM Manager. Then you can use it to upgrade or install your clockworkmod to the most recent version ( 5.0.2.7 ) directly, it will find the phone, download the right version, and install it for you. Couldn't be easier.
You do have to have superuser (root) access to use ROM Manager, so make sure to root it after running the Revolutionary tool.

S7 Edge Android 7.0 (Nougat) Performance Guide

Some of this guide may apply to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) as well. I've honestly forgotten what 6.0 was like since I have been on the 7.0 beta for so long, but some of this is possible on the older software.
So the reason I decided to make this guide was because I recently almost sold my S7 Edge due to poor performance. When I first installed Nougat it was great, but over time the phone got worse and worse. I realize this is an Android thing in general, but it just got to be so annoying that I couldn’t ignore it any longer. I have a vanilla android tablet that flies and when I would switch back to the phone it was almost unbearable. This guide will help out significantly with that issue.
First off you'll want to enable "Developer options". Go to Settings > About device > and then tap on "Build number" 7 times to enable Developer options.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After that go back a page and scroll all the way to the bottom to find Developer options. Click that.
Once in Developer options scroll about 3/4 way down to find three entries that say "animation scale". Change all three entries to "0.5x".
Next we need to go to the Playstore and download an app called "Package Disabler Pro". Yes it's 2 dollars and yes you want/need it.
Before running the app download the .XML file I have attached to this post called "XDA.xml". Now go ahead and open the app and let it load. Next click the three dots in the top right and select "Import from xml". Select the xml file you downloaded from the previous step. This will disable some of the pre-installed apps that you don't need. I encourage you to look through this entire list and click on each item that you would never use, this will permanently disable that app from running or appearing in your app drawer. You can easily undo it at any time by clicking the apps name again (taking the check out of the box). Just to let you know I have 33 additional apps disabled other than the ones in the "XDA.xml" file, I have all kinds of stuff disabled that I don't use; gear vr, gear manager for watches, android pay (I use Samsung pay), S-voice (I used google dictation for everything). I really encourage you to go through and get rid of anything in there that you don't use, it will help the phone out a lot. Once you're done reboot the phone.
When the phone boots up go to the "Device maintenance" section of the settings menu. I at first ignored this section as I felt that it was gimmicky an unnecessary, but then realized that it's actually very useful.
First let’s go to "Performance mode". There is a ton of stuff you can do with this, but I am only going to address one of them. Click on "settings" and then "Screen resolution". Change it to 1920x1080 (FHD). You can always change it back if you really need something such as VR, but most of the time you will not be able to tell that there was a change in resolution.
Next go back to Device maintenance and select "RAM". This menu allows you to close out things from RAM that you don't want running. The problem with this is that Linux (Android) prefers to have apps stay in RAM instead of having to reload them each time you open them, so closing them is kind of counterproductive. Not only that but almost everything that you close from this menu will re-enable itself in the next few minutes anyway. This menu, like the "Battery" section, gives you a look at things which are running that you may not know about. I went through this list and uninstalled apps that I didn't even use so that they weren't just hanging around running without me knowing. A lot of the apps on this list were running and I never even opened them to begin with, that kind of bugs me. I got rid of the ones I could and then used Greenify (more on that in a minute) on the others. Any apps on this list that you for sure never opened, need to be added to Greenify (see next section for instructions) because they are running themselves and using resources.
Now for Greenify. Go to the playstore and download the "Greenify" app and follow the instructions to set it up. It takes a few steps to setup but you only have to do it once. Pay attention as some of the steps are a little tricky and they all must be enabled for the app to function properly. Once installed you will use Greenify to hibernate the apps that you found from the previous section (ram manager) that you don't want awake all the time. Some apps just run themselves without asking you first and sit there consuming battery. I would first decide whether you even need that app to begin with and if you do, then go ahead and Greenify it. Something to note here is that if you Greenify an app that NEEDS to stay awake to work, such as a chat program or music apps, they won't work properly. These apps are easy to spot because they have little blue "gcm" icons next to them, so be careful. To add an app to the "Greenify list" (auto hibernation) just hit the + button in the top right to start adding them.
Once you're done with all that, your phone should be flying. It's not even the same phone anymore really. One thing I want to point out is that the Samsung keyboard on Android 6.0 was trash. It was a completely unusable piece of non-working trash. The auto correct couldn't keep up with any reasonable typing speed, so no words would be corrected at all and you would be left with a mess of a paragraph. I solved that with Swiftkey originally, but for some odd reason it was never blazing fast on this phone. It caught every single mistake, but when you were typing there was just enough lag to kind of throw off your typing speed and it looked like crap. I am happy to say that on Android 7.0 the new Samsung keyboard is the best keyboard I have ever used. They FINALLY got it right after all these years. Honestly all of their keyboards have sucked. They could never seem to get them right, whether it was lag or just plain non-functioning auto correct, it was always something. This one is perfect and if you're using Swiftkey I would uninstall it as it continually reruns itself even when you force close it. It's also a resource hog, so if you don't need it, get rid of it.
There is it, you should be good to go with these small adjustments. A lot of you don't even have 7.0 yet, but when you do at least you will have a head start. There is nothing worse than paying $800 for the latest smartphone only for it to be a laggy mess. Hopefully this helps somewhat with that problem.
Good advice. I just got my S7E the other day. I was (am) so disappointed there is no root for this device. My other android is a note 4 and there is a huge development community, so that's what I've been used to for the past 2 years. I'm missing little things that you can do with root... Ad away for 1, and honestly 3minit battery and 3minit clock. Like I said little things.
And to be honest, the S7E doesn't feel "that" much faster than my Note 4. Which has got me scratching my head. It's faster but not the night and day difference I expected.
Well I look forward to nougat. And using these tips. Thanks!

I've disabled animations and disabled or removed bloat apps for years. I find I have to do a complete reset every couple weeks or so since being on beta. It gets HORRIBLE lag that no amount of cache clearing fixes.
PDP can actually ruin battery life as dependent apps are constantly running, searching for and not finding other apps they're tied to.

My phone has been amazingly smooth for 2 weeks now, night and day difference. I agree, if you get carried away with disabling packages it can be counter productive. I've gone through and just disabled anything I didn't recognize, like 200 things disabled LOL Yea getting carried away with that program can cause some serious problems. I only disable things that are clearly apps that I wouldn't use and a couple others that I know for certain are insane battery hogs like the tmobile carrier IQ service that logs your every action (I forget the name at the moment but it's disabled in my XDA.xml).

Force the app, and clear it's cache and data before disabling it. I was ready to deal with the root issues to Uninstaller a bunch of apps when PDP failed to extend my battery life, but someone in another thread suggested cleaning the app and it worked wonders for me.

Sounds like the right thing to do, but since we have no real backup of our ROM, what does one do if the changes made by this app are not to the liking of the user? How can this process be reverted back to prior of the making of these changes?
