I feel bad that I have to re-open this thread but I was unable to get the device for that price listed below. Looks like it's going to cost $500. If nobody would like to contribute further I completely understand. I will try to cover the cost some other way for GSLEON3. If you still want to contribute, then I thank you!
In case some of you don't know GSLEON3 Tilt died a violent death.
Now, he no longer has a device. He has contributed so much to the Kaiser / Tilt community and in fact to XDA as a whole.
I would like to propose that we donate to get him a new device. Considering I can get a great deal on a HTC Fuze ($275 USD) I would like to start a fund-raiser to raise the money for him.
I will be collecting the money for him and will keep the thread updated on the current amount raised. Any amount of contribution will be gladly accepted. PLEASE remember to put your XDA name so I can credit your on the thread.
Total as of 8:00pm PST -8GMT

Okay, somebody just IM'd me a link to this thread & while I had heard a rumor, I never really expected to see this. I am overwhelmed to see the support from so many. I want to sincerely thank all of you. I am truly humbled by the depth of caring & generousity found in these forums. I wish I could truly express my gratitude, but words seem to fail to express the degree to which I am thankful.

exactly..
give him your phone, Subliminal Aura

Keep downloading and never donate.
just give him yours if you need him to have one ASAP. he's going to be getting his back from repair at some point in the future.
you're the "cheap ass leacher" one, wanting him to have a phone now so that you can have your updated dutty rom!
All Us must donate if we like his work

Leave Britney alone!!!!
Dutty will let us know if the repair center won't be able to do anything for his phone. If that's the case, he will ask for donations at that time to cover the cost of a new phone. However, that is no reason not to donate to him if you appreciate his work.

Its $700 not bloody $70,000 so it's not stupid. Only stupid little people think 700 is a lot of money.
The cost of it is not an issue but being without a PDA/phone is a big issue.
Well lets seperate the wheat from the chaf here...
Dutty I'm based in London so if you want my phone for a couple of weeks let me know.
Cheers.
Lol dont be a jerk, judging ppl for not donating. Donation is something optional, and done by ppl who really want to do it with pleasure and of course they have the money.
We cook ROMs 1st of all for our pleasure, personaly I dont like at all that "donation" thingie.
If ppl start thinking like you then we 'll see users showing up and selling their Cooked ROMs.

That must mean that nearly all of sub-Saharan is a bunch of stupid little people. You know, because millions of them don't earn $700 dollars in a year, let alone enough to contribute to Dutty's ROM cooking efforts.
That amount of money would save their LIVES. Even if they are, as you said, "stupid little people."
How about this: You just quit saying things about which you clearly have no idea.

All,
I have just received a question via PM and thought that it may best be answered here in the open forum. Mods, pls move thread if it would best be located in another forum. I have posted the original question and my reply... Any thoughts, extra comments or general discussion would be appreciated... The name of the sender has been removed for their privacy...

Hey, thanks for the great advice. I want to donate to some of the developers whose ROMS i have used, but i wasn't sure how much to give...i don't want to give too much, but also don't want to offend by giving too little. Also, i am curious at what point do you feel like u should donate...i didn't think just from trying a ROM i should feel obligated to donate, but if i have used it for a month or so or more than yeah, maybe kickin something down is the thing to do.
So, you think better way to get the keyboard problem addressed is post in the thread for the rom you want fixed, as opposed to creating a new thread asking specifically for it. See, i think some devices maybe don't have that problem (it's an ATT PTT thing?), and so some of the chefs and users aren't getting it...i THINK...or else it just surprises me how it doesn't bother more people more...i guesss maybe i actually use my phone to talk on more than some here

Donations are always a tricky item... I completely understand about the "not enough to much" dilemma... This is how I approach it: You are not purchasing anything, you are donating to a person that shares a common interest as you... To that end, think about a small favor that a friend of yours does for you... What type of thanks would you give that friend...? For my friends, I may buy them a couple beers... I think you see my point... Any donation, is appreciated... I would check on the conversion rate for where the recipient lives, so that they can get a decent donation... I don't think that 5 or 10 of whatever their native currency is, is to much... So, if I wanted to donate approx. 5GBP to someone, it would cost me 10USD... That is enough to buy almost 3 beers in the US, not sure about the UK ratio though... I think you also have a good handle on when you may wish to donate... a month may be a good time to donate to the cook... or however long you take to decide the rom is a keeper...
As for the keyboard fix, the comment should be posted in the thread of the rom where the problem exists... Some roms do not have the problem, it really depends on which base rom the cook used and whether or not they are even aware of the problem to begin with... There are many roms that have the fix already taken care of, and many that do not... It's really a hit or miss, when you find one that you like, you can always ask the cook to repost it with the correct dll cooked in, if you really like the rom, you can always let them know how much you appreciate their work and that a donation may be forthcoming...
Debonairone...
hmm
I'd say 10-15 USD is the right donation value and I feel that one should donate if they find that the ROM is perfect for their needs
If you were to donate, i'd say the minimum would be the cost of a pint of beer in your own currency.
a small way to say thanks online.
Moved to General subforum as this isn't really tied to a specific Rom or device.
FWIW, as someone who has both sent & received donations I think that the average is from $5 - $20 depending on what efforts you are supporting, how much value you feel you got from the efforts and finally how deep your pockets are. I've received a few donations that were much higher and it is always appreciated but nobody is trying to live off donations.
In the end it's really something that changes from user to user, project to project, and even month to month as your financial situation may change.

Not just ROMs but all Apps should be considered. There is a whole lot of great creativity in this forum.....
I have to say thnxs to those that shared their thoughts... Hopefully, someone has gained some insight as to how much they should donate, if they feel the urge to do so... I agree, as already stated, that shelling out the amount for a couple beers will always be appreciated, but as mentioned by Kyphur, your financial situation should be the final factor as to how much you want/can donate...
Thanks Debonairone
This was indeed very helpful!
Hi my friends! I've written a private message to vilord, dzo and mssmison to report the current status of Android for our devices and this is what mssmison answered:
I'd love to help man, but my phone died a couple weeks back and I've been unable to get a replacement
Vilord and I had planned a lot of work on the Polaris, but without anything to test on it's not going to get done.

As you may already know, he is one of our best bets to a fully working Android. He has helped a lot, along with other wonderful people that bring us the best of their knowledge.
Well, I don't know how many of you donated money for this project, but it's definitely necessary to provide our developers with test devices.
I make a call to all of you that could help with a small donation for the cause. If you know where to buy a Polaris or you don't use yours anymore, please, notify us using this thread. The community will appreciate your help.

It's great you are supporting him! If only we could get more people to find him a good device... It doesn't matter if it's a very little donation. Many a little makes a mickle.
He's from Canada. Do you know anybody from Canada that is wanting to sell a Polaris? Maybe we could send one to him if we get enough donors.

maybe we can look on ebay

I received a message from mssmison. I have just realized that his original device was a Vogue, not a Polaris Sorry, I misunderstood it.
Well, I'm going to change the topic of this thread to fit the reality. My proposal is this: now that a donation link is set up, we could use it to raise the numbers enough to buy a Polaris, too. If you make a donation, specify that it is to buy a Polaris.
I trust that mssmison will be honest and he will get one once he gets the money. I will send him a PM to inform about it.
He told me that he's going to use it as a test device and extra phone to develop for. This could make possible to fix things quickly!
You've got to take into consideration that Vogue and Polaris are similar devices, but not the same, and we have way less developers... I think this is the only mean to keep the dev scene alive.

I noticed a very cool thing that you guys/gals are doing for morfic's dev fund. If anyone hasn't noticed, they are attempting to get the dev a G2x.. Kudos to jdkackley for getting this going, see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058039
When I evaluate the # of people that TGA_Gunnman has helped on these forums via the help guides, responding to questions, helping the n00bs with the same questions 1000 times, and the all famous - One-Click CWM Nvflash (you know you used it!), I have to toss this hat into the ring and recommend a small token of appreciation towards this hard work.
I think a drink costs around $5. Some of us pay close to that much for an app. Scroll down and click the glass here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2341153
At any rate.. I'm not affiliated.. A first time smartphone user actually. But I do have many years in the service industry and I think gunnman deserves more recognition than a click of thanks. If you agree, buy gunnman a drink via clicking on the shot glass..
Thanks gunnman.. Your hard work is recognized and appreciated.

Now that's cool... Donating twice. That's what I love to do.. help out those that do this out of their own free will, expecting nothing in return. Just to help out..
If you used gunnman's help guides, One click CWM, or gained info from an answered question.. consider a cheap drink at least.. $3 gets the cheap stuff.
I'm kinda shocked by the lack of support on this thread in comparison to the other one for donations to the developer. Hmmph, go figure.
I have witnessed 100s upon 100s of people helped by gunnman.. if not 1000s. Maybe a direct link would help? Click the glass! http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2341153

i guess i don't understand the importance of the "thanks" :good: button. is it incentive based? prize money for the top thanks earner. woo-hoo! or is it just an expression of gratitude? forum etiquette? or somehting else?
unfortunately, thinking i havent used the dang thing enough. nor have i made fair use of the pay pal button either. sorry to those from whose work i benefited. i'll be certain to hit both the donate and thanks buttons in the future.
thanks
Its more of a gratitude thing. It also shows on the users profile. It shows good reputation on the forums, and that they are usually helpful. The more thanks, the more helpful people find your posts. That's why usually at the end of a mod or ROM post, you'll find lots of thanks. Its a free way to show gratitude. I've looked into modding and theming and I know how crazy it is. I don't take a second to hesitate when I see something I like. Of course, if you're feeling extra generous, a donation doesn't hurt at all. Like Andy said, he made over $1,000 making mods on the inc2. I never got to donate for anything of his, as I'm a broke college student so I can't spare anything at all. However, I know his is some of the best in the business. He was an insider on many teams who have uber talented devs. A little thanks or donation always helps.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
As mentioned above, it's all about respect and grattitude. Not everyone can donate money, and sometimes things deserve a little recognition but not quite the monetary kind
From the developer standpoint, think of it as street-cred and they want to earn it.
got it. thanks

kind of rude to make a thread about me rather than just PM me..
but whatever..
I don't get paid for someone hitting the thanks button.
It's a sign of respect within the forum.
When you put your free time and effort into a product that someone else is using and enjoying, the least they can do to show they are appreciative is to hit the thanks button, it's exactly that, saying thank you for your work.
I guess it's hard to remember what it's like to NOT know and understand.
I try to put myself back in that position, but when I spend countless hours and many late nights, leaving for a ****ty next work day to put out a theme that I don't even use... I was just kindly asked by someone, so I got to it when I had the time.
Yes I rant time to time, now being one of them, but to all those who truly know me, I think would say I am an alright guy. I can and will be a **** to you if I think it's deserved, but that's me. There's only one andybones lol
