Looking for a rom..... With landscape support - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

In a bit of a n00b when it comes to these sweet cooked roms. (my first decent phone in a while)
I currently have the Hyperdragon III rom on my Tilt now, And I LOVE it!! Great work man!
I have spent many a nights at work (network engineer) customizing it the way i like it.
But I am looking to find one that supports landscape as well, as that one gets wonky when in landscape mode.
Whats the best one for my tilt?
Thanks guys in advance.

What do you mean supports landscape? All devices support landscape.
Please, either post your request in that thread or go through the ROMs offered here and choose the one best to your likings.

I think he means which kaiser rom with Manilla 2D, that supports landscape.
Anyway, to answer your question, Solace 1.5 by Mbarvian has a landscape menu, but it takes a few seconds to kick in, and can take even longer when you close the keyboard because it has to re-launch TouchFlo.
Your other option is to edit your XML file(s) to better compensate for landscape. There are a few threads on how to do this. Since Manilla 2D does not support landscape at all, xml editing can't resolve every issue, its more of a workaround at best.

Do you like Manilla2D/3D or not

Most recent cooked ROM's come with Manilla2D, and now, thanks to the P3D team even with Manilla3D. I personally am not a fan of Manilla, for a number of reasons, and I would like your opinion. So vote please!
I'm hoping for future ROM's without Manilla preinstalled. For the following reasons:
Manilla only shows 1 upcoming appointment. That's not enough overview for me. Furthermore you have to jump through hoops to have it directly open your favorite PIM manager's calendar like Pocket Informant
When wanting to call someone while driving a car, the Cube fits best. I can almost call my wife without looking at the screen once. Scrolling to the persons-tab in Manilla takes a lot of precision and attention.
I use the sound profiles tab in HTC Home Plugin a lot, putting my device on silent or vibrating with one click. I haven't found that funtionality in Manilla
I lock my device a lot, preventing buttons from being pushed in my pocket. Device Lock could be on the programs tab in Manilla (with all my other favorite progs). But then again, it is hard to reach that tab accurately, as mentioned earlier for the persons tab
I really must admit Manilla looks way better than the standard Today screen and it's nice to have something new to look at, but I'm not willing to give up functionality for that.
No disrespect is meant to people who spend their time on cooking ROM's and sharing them with others. I really appreciate everything. I'm just hoping I won't be forced to use Manilla if I would like to use a newer/faster ROM in the future.
Hi deechte
I think that this voting not necessary because both of TouchFlo 2D & 3D will dead when the new version of ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5 will release after a few days and I think that all cooker will add it or at lest release the rom without TouchFlo
follow up this thread to see what will be ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5

thx
I really dislike the direction that Manilla 2D/3D takes us. I looks stunning, but like you stated its terrible for us drivers. There is no way to use the phone in landscape with Manilla and it requires a lot of involvement to get where you want to be. HTC Home was elegant, simple point and click, and it worked in landscape also!

Thanks for that information. TL sure looks nice, and I see profiles passing by in that clip. However, it looks as complicated as Manilla to scroll to the tab you want, which indeed takes to much involvement while driving. But we'll see how it really works when it's released.
Btw, just another reason to have a clean ROM, so you can choose for HHP, Manilla or TL yourself.
I agree with deechte. If the ROM comes "clean" every user can install what's best for him/her (in example, I'm used to SPB mobile shell)

at least you will get more development, support and upgrade not "take it or leave it"

I partially agree with you because TouchFlo 2D & 3D needs more tweaks to work perfect which normal user can't do it by self
Ultimately, what I would love would be a custom version of Manilla (or even Throttle launcher) that would enable 2D/3D mode in portrait and then HTC Home (or whatever plug-in you prefer) in landscape.
I really like Manilla2D, I wanted 3D but it didn't work and I had to hard reset my phone by flashing a new (but updated at the same time) ROM to get it to work again.
I would love Manilla2D on any ROMs I get from now on.

You mean that it works better when it's cooked in the ROM?
Well, I don't mind if it's present, if I could just disable it and enable Htc Home.

sure you can disable it from Today screen and working as it not present at all in rom, and if you decide that you will not using it at all. you can delete or backup all Manila graphic picture from windows directory to free space in internal storage

What's your favourite cooked ROM?

In about a month or two I will be putting aside my Kaiser and make way fo the Touch HD so what better way to spend the remainder of time with my Kaiser then to flash cooked ROM's!
So for the past few weeks I have been testing several cooked ROM's and here's my current favourite ROM's in no particular order based on speed, stabilty and appearance:
- SJ' HD ROM's III (shortly will be testing IV)
- PDACornerUltimate.V4
- Garmin.DK.4.Manila [OS 19971.1.4.0] - v4.4a/b/c
- MBarvian's Solace v1.5 BETA
- L26_KaiserTouch_V1_M2D
I think in there own way they are all great ROM's cooked by the finest Chefs!
If I had to choose one for my own personal permanant use it would be between SJ' HD ROM's and PDACornerUltimate.V4 I think they are both on par in terms of speed and stabilty but I think the coloured icons of PDACornerUltimate.V4 do it for me
To all the cooks well done guys and thank you!!!!
more flashing and more testing to be done........
I'm using mbarvian's Solace V1.5 beta at the moment and i'm very pleased with it. I've used the Hyperdragon III rom's and they are great too. I don't have a favorite. I'm trying new rom's when i feel like it.
PDACornerUltimate is my favourite rom since the coloured status icon. LOL
And also it is very convenient because it has all of my need.
sorry for my question ... which ROM is "SJ' HD ROM's III" ?

i just got a kaiser and im gonna flash my first rom, hyperdragon is getting a lot of attention and looking good for me. i have unlocked it just fine and was waiting for a thread like this to confirm that that rom is one of the best
any other recommendations??
For me it's NATFs ROMs (AT&T, not Manila).
This Manila stuff is way too inflexible. I spent hours and hours testing Manila ROMs (two by NATF and Hyperdragon III) and trying to configure them to my liking. But Manila is inflexible to changes/customization, and even the fledging utility found in the forum - is not enough.
Next week I'll test another "regular" ROM.
NATF ROMs here too.
I'm running V4 Manilla Laoded right now on my mian phone and ATT Loaded on my older "back-up" phone. The each have their positives and negatives.
- Can't change the fost key in Minilla.
- Can't run anyother other home screen plug-ins with Manilla running.
-Manilla allowes you to have multipal cities in it's weather vs. just one in HTC home weather.
- Manilla allowes you to have more contacts in it contact launcher and many more apps in it app launcher then HTC Home.
But I hae found them both to be excellent ROMs.

Use SecondToday cab (look it up in the forum).
It allows you to create a duplicate Today screen, where you can place all your Today plugins (either WM standard or s/w that you installed).
Then you assign it to any h/w key (I used the PTT button in my Tilt) - and voila! you're (almost) back in business regarding Today screen versatility.
But I didn't like the lags and REALLY didn't like the lack of customization abilities in Manila

its all about the simplicity of "today plugins" and the easy customization and manipulation of the today screen...
once "manilla" came in....THAT went out the window...and like u said the whole 2nd today screen was supposed to solve that but still....it isnt the same...
im glad i found a couple of ppl like me...who arent big fans of the manilla revolution lol...but as you can see in the listed roms in the 1st post...they all are manilla based...and in the last month or so...there hasn't been any regular cooked roms excluding 888's roms...
i haven't flashed in a long time and the reason is the lack of these non-manilla based roms...hoping any chef out there will cater to the needs of myself and the others in this minority
Well, there's the NATF v4 ATT ROM, and soon I expect there'll be a 3G version of aruppenthal's 3.57_19214 RR Edition V3.7 (he's already published the 2G versions).
I really don't understand how people are willing to sacrifice easy of use for a facade...
(and I really put a lot of effort to try and adapt to the 2 Manila ROMs I tested).
Currently using MBarvian's Solace v1.5, I find it fast, stable, and has landscape! I love the manilla 2d. Not much of a fan of the regular Home screen. I have only had my tilt about a month and I don't use it for the PDA functions. A little email, a bit of text'n, mostly I wanted to stream Sirius Radio at work as they shut down internet. I love the Theme customization available for M2d. Its awesome.

I take your point on board, with manila 2d it's a case of either you love it or hate it! however in my case I do not have any lag issues when using SecondToday combined with manila 2d it fits my purpose, of course this all depends on what ROM and tweak you use, as I have noticed with certain ROM's the SecondToday doesn't run smoothly!!
My absolute favourite is HyperDragon. No other ROM (and I've flashed 'em all!) comes close to the responsiveness and stability (sorry Leo )
Besides, I do not think that the Kaiser is really compatible with the Manila kind of touch interface by design (ever tried to scroll thru the index bar of Random Access with your finger? ). That's why I still stick to good old HTC Home.
Sleuth 3.0 - fast? I dont really know cause never tried other cooked ROM, but I know it is reliable and stable ...
AthineOS for me. The home V2.2 version. Stable, fast and ALOT of free ram.
Tony
AT&T in SE USA
I f you are in Southeast USA, then without a question, the best Rom is PDACornerUltimate.V4 with Radio 1.65.24.36
I should know, I have tried every new Rom since I got my Tilt (Year ago).
PDACornerUltimate.V4 got my vote.
hyperdragonIII (11-10-08)
I flashed hyperdragon yesterday. I liked it but there were too many bugs and no landscape just completely killed it for me.
Today i tried solace but ended up not liking it. The landscape wasn't really how I was excpecting it to be but still at least it had landscape even though i didn't really like it. there weren't as many programs as other roms give you on it. Also manillas are too hard to customize for my linking at this point. When they are further developed then they will probably become the only kind of roms I use.
Right now I'm using duttys diamond v1 and i seem to like it. I liked the looks and stuff of the manilla better but I like duttys rom performance better.
I'm going to check out a few of those NATF roms because I've heard they're really good.
It doesn't matter where you are in the country or the world...The ROM has nothing to do with it...its the RADIO!!!
And being a former Chef on here, I have to say HyperdragonIII is by far the most stable, responsive ROM out right now.
Simple things like...
On M2D if you go to another widget you can press the END key and get back to home!
The dialer is perfect and easily changable by skins. WIth a few minor AdvanceConfig changes by battery lasts easily 2 days with moderate use.
Just my info, but HyperDragonIII is the way to go right now. I have tried to build my own ROM lately, but keep going back to his!!!

Flipping Clock for manilla 2d

looked around a lot and saw that it was not possible because of the driver issues, but i currently installed fe widgets, and noticed that the flip clock works perfectly fine on there. just wanted to know if at all possible to get the sotware from that and incorporate it into manilla 2d. they also had animated weather which worked fine.
You can't put flash in M2D as it's not built for it.
You can use Throttle Launcher 0.9.5+ to have both the visualization (and many more options) of M2D and have a lot of the TouchFLO3D components.
Also, dig a lil to find out about the ported TouchFLO by Chainfire. I don't know which device you're using but you might be able to use it, as it is developing now.
thanks for the quick response. im have a sprint vogue. stock sprint rom, and i have been following chainfire's development, but i dont believe it's working on the vogue yet. well last time i checked it wasn't.
Don't try TF3D.
Either use TF2D or try FEWidgets if the flipping clock matters to you.
You can also use Ultimate Launch to have a shell that has a few tabs and put FEWidgets as one of the tabs.
If you are not a very advanced user i would agree with nir36, Touch flo3d is still in development and is very unstable (obviosly not unstable for devices it was meant for, i am refering to porting prodjects) Its not completely ready for every day use but it is slowly getting there. If you would like to try it anyways you can grab it from here, but expect to do a har reset to fully uninstall it.
ps here is link for a qvga standby fix
thanks once again. i am fairly new. only on my 2nd windows mobile device, but the website is really helping me learn. i'll wait until 3d is more stable but in the mean time i will try ur suggenstions. thanks once again.

M2D Question and WAD2 Question

Two questions:
1. I have read in a few m2d threads that there is a good chance m2d will never support landscape mode. I was just wondering why?
2. Anyone know any really good wad2 themes? I wanted something similar to diamond (w/ the text, email, since I use that alot) or something else that is really cool. I just got wad2 and wa3 and they are really fun to play with.
Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I am not a programmer. Just a huge fan of these phones like the rest of you guys.
why manilla 2d will not support landscape
Manilla 2d was built by htc, therefore everythingw as hardcoded by them (and we don't have the source code to modify it) everything we do to manilla 2d (hacks and tweaks you see everywhere) area accoplished by editing resource files (which are not hardcoded in) There are work arounds available that kill m2d and opena diffirent program in landscape, but then when you return to portrait you have to wait for m2d to load again.

I love M2D, but landscape is something I need so hopefully something comes out in the near future.

Sense Landscape VGA Final Answer

I'm using a Fuze right now with one of Tael's Sense ROMs, with Manila 1921 on it. What is the answer on the landscape deal. I've searched it and found a registry setting here and a download there. I've heard that Manila 1922 was a little better with it. I'm getting ready to go to Afghanistan in June and taking my phone because I'm supposed to have wirless access so I would love to get this strait before I go. I really like sense 2.5 and just dealing without landscape for right now but would love to have it fixed before I go.
Any suggestions? Maybe a good ROM that has it fixed? Thanks All!!
