Wife is Jealous.... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

We both bought TyTn II's (AT&T TILT)when we were avalable for upgrades. We both have loved out phones.
Well I messued up my USB port (thinking about sending it out to get repaired just for the resell value - and so I can mess with ROMS) any suggestions? Is there someone here on the forums that can replace the USB port professionally - I rather pay a forum member that is recognised than some SHOP - If not what shop do you all recommend (im in USA) don't want to go outside USA?
She still has her TILT and I went and Got a Fuze (upgraded again on another one of my family lines) - I've been in the raphael forums for a few days now and been messing with my phone for a bit over 24 hrs. IM using the new RomeOS2 1.40 1ENG rom and it is awesome.
Well she is jealous of my new phone. I don't feel like droppping another $350 to make her happy. There isn't many things the Fuze can do that the TyTn II can't do that she would use. As long as she has a Camera, Ability to call (contacts list) Google maps and messaging + use of her keyboard - it's basicly the same phone - Now I know the Fuze does alot more (but she will never get into it like I do). She basicly like the new interface and such.
I have been readingabout Kaiser roms now and it seems like there are a ton of choices.
I see the Hyperdragon III looks the most like the Fuze in terms of its interface - how well does it run on the TILT? I know there are performance issues as they never used the right Librarys to get the proper performance out of the processor. WIll it be smooth and will she like the experience compared to stock?
What Rom can I use that is the MOST STABLE, has all the features of the original rom and looks the most like the fuze rom (touchFlo3d and such?) Im thinking Hyperdragon III but point me to other good ones (links apprecaited) so I can figure out how to make her happy....(no jokes please... )
All help is appreacited in advance...

HyperDragon III Raphael is GREAT on the Tilt, That's what I'm using after several and it's so fast makes my Fuze feel a little slow, LOL. it's a great rom.
Hope this helps you get out of that 2nd Fuze.
Beachboyde

+1 for Hyperdragon
runs super lovely on my tilt
smooth as butter

With something like L26's latest rom u can get the manila 3d interface - the hyperdragon rom is the 2d version which is different to the fuze's...however...manila 3d is still in process of being ported so dont expect it to work perfectly.

The ole upgrade...

I current have a old Sony Erickson...gay...and a Cingular 3125...love it...when it stays on
Im getting my upgrade....like im elgible now...
I want a smart phone...here is my list
ATT 8525 129.99 Refurb
BB Curve 99.99 Refurb
Palm Centrino 99.99
Palm 750 199.99
Palm 680 149.99
I am only 16....text addict...so i want good texting...My friend has a palm 680(that was supposed to be mine) and i love the threaded text/chat freature that it has. So i found an app for wm5/6 that can do the same. I want to mod my device..so that gives a lean to wm. I like wm b/c of the similarity to my computer. BB seem to be very stable compared to the wm devices. and i hear palm has an outdated os...but thats pretty irrelevant to my life...lol. But the 8525 has wifi...and i would love to have that...but which route would yall go?
anybody...i need some opinions...
Those are pretty much the same phones I looked at when deciding what to buy.
My thoughts were, Blackberry - add on software to expensive and little of it.
Palm OS, Not multitasking
Treo with Windows Mobile, ok, but I have large hands and keyboard kinda small.
HTC 8525, my choice. Best of all worlds. Not perfect, but close for me.
My son just got a blackberry perl, and he loves it. Does lots of texting, but keeps asking me where he can get the games and stuff I have on my 8525. Most aren't even available.
I text quite a bit too, but not like my son, and most of the time I don't open the keyboard to do it. I use a program called Calligrapher, and just write on the screen and have it converted to text. Works great.
Final choice is up to you. Go to a few of the stores in the area, and see how each device feels in your hands. That will help you make the best decision.
Good Luck.
Thanks...and can somebody explain to me how to mod this device...because i just want to put a couple of apps on it..maybe a few games and such...nothing major...i wanted to do some iphone similar interfacing mods...but i probably wont.
so can somebody explain how to upgrade to wm6...and what all this ROM stuff means to me and the performance and customizability of the device?
anyone else
Installing apps and games is very easy. You have 2 basic methods, you can download a cab file directly to the phone and install from there or download a windows installer and install to your phone from the PC through the activesync connection. Most of the applications or interface customizations you talked about would be done in one of these two manors.
Upgrading your device from WM5 to 6 will require to to flash a new rom on the phone. You have many options to choose from when picking a new rom. You can use the generic version from HTC, or go with one of the many custom cooked roms on this site. You just have to read each of the threads for each of the roms to see the pros and cons of each. Just like the phones, there is no perfect choice and you are the only one who can decide which rom is right for you.
These phones can be as easy or as complicated as you want them to be. If this is all new to you, try starting off with the Generic HTC rom, or the official WM6 rom from your carrier, if one exists.
To get started, read the wiki for the hermes and start reading the posts in the hermes forums, and as always, ask questions, but try searching first.
Hope this helps!
anymore opinions as i am very close to my purchase...

Help me pick new smartphone!

Right now I have a T-Mobile dash, known as HTC Excalibur. I do llike the phone, however I have had it for three years and I just found out that the USB port on the phone looses contact and makes the phone difficult to charge.
I want to get another HTC smartphone running Windows Mobile, with Querty Keyboard. The phone must be able to sync to ms Outlook, and read/edit ms Word & Excel files. Also the phone MUST run off a SIM card.
Just by looking around this site, phones which come to my mind are; Blue Angel, Wizard, Hermes, Herald, Kaiser, Titan, Raphael, Wings...
I was looking around and I can get HTC Wizard for $140 on ebay. Is the wizard a good phone or should I look elsewhere? I dont want to spend more than $150...
I appreciate any inoput...
Don't get a Wizard at all, get at least a Tytn or Tytn II.

I just got T-mobile G1, wasnt bad for $160 new from the store...
So far I am very happy with it...
Let us know how u like the G1 3G? I'm waiting on the tmob Touch Pro2 due in July...
Love my G1, even more so with the custom ROMs available as it has made the mobile much more complete. When it was originally released it felt rushed but everyone knew it had potential to improve and grow, due to the nature of Android - And boy has it done that!
Everything has improved from responsiveness, battery life, quality applications, louder external and internal volume for calls, A2DP support for Bluetooth stereo headsets, video recording, vastly improved camera software and more. The only thing that's missing (which is currently being developed) is Bluetooth OBEX support so users can finally send and receive files via Bluetooth.
As soon as that's implemented it will be the most complete smartphone I've ever used.

Welcome to forums
Rhodium is a great device if you get rid of the stock ROM that is full of crap that makes it slower, also if you stay with Rhodium you´ll have the great support from this site.

Touch Pro 2 Newbie

Good Evening all!! My TP2 for sprint is on the way (hopefully tomorrow but possibly monday)! I have been out of the upgrading game for a few years now. I am coming from a mogul and even in the last year I haven't done anything to that because I felt like I have explored everything in the previous few years. Will anyone point me in the direction of some good links? I feel like I am starting all over with this whole process. anyway... where do I begin? I've been looking for stickies for sprint unlocking but it seems even the basic terms are beyond me....PLEASE HELP!!!
P. S. I formerly used and loved DCDs' ROMs.....what out now is similar to those?
Hi, welcome back to XDA. Seems like you enjoy custom ROMs and personalizing your phone. Everything you need will be in this forum because we use CDMA phones. Seeing as how you are probably going to use a custom ROM, you will first want to check out the Hard SPL thread here.
Once again it is very important to make sure you download CDMA versions as the GSM version can possibly brick your device. The same goes for downloading custom ROMs, which i suggest you download from PPC Geek's CDMA TP2 upgrades.
Below is the configuration that I use. To review different benchmarks on some different custom roms check out the PPC geeks ROM Showdown.
Best of luck with your device and always remember, if you don't know, READ IT AGAIN. If you still don't know, Search the forums. If you still don't know ask one of the experts here
thanks you very much for your response. i'm going to begin "studying" tonight. My TP2 is scheduled to be here before 3 on Monday (so excited). is it all everybody thought it would be and more? I've been out of the upgrading scene for years
hey, i recently did the same thing (upgrade from mogul to TP2)
as burtonsnow linked, HSPL is stickied in this forum
personally i use NRG's rom (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86489)
i used to use DCD because it was lightweight, but the TP2 doesnt have the same RAM issues as the mogul, so i found i can indulge in a rom with some more eye candy
anyway, hope you like the TP2, im loving mine all my iphone fanboy/girl friends who thought my mogul was "nice, but not as good as an iphone" nearly **** themselves when they say my TP2 (they all want one now lol)
radios and such
is there a list of what radios work best with certain roms (and works well with gps)? when i had the mogul i used to use garmin mobile xt...is that the best program to use for the TP2?
i dont think there is as big a selection of radio roms for the TP2, ive really only seen the sprint stock radio around
i use TomTom on both mogul and TP2, so i cant comment on garmin

HTC Touch Diamond2, any good?

Hey, I've been looking on the Diamond2 on different sites where they sell used ones, it seems to be a cheaper version of HTC Hero but with WM 6.1/6.5, same processor, same RAM, camera and similar displays.
So I've been thinking of getting one and install XDAndroid (Which I had on my HTC Touch Diamond too) since its being updated and seem to be more and more stable, but I need your opinions first
XDAndroid on TD2 is not ready for general use at all in my opinion. Its quite slow and has to run off sd card, so you can't use it. For me it tends to freeze or just has horrible lag, not sure which. It also seems to mess up WM when I boot back up into it, but that might have just been a one off.
However, if you are at all into WM, you will find a very capable phone. But if all you want is android, I would say no deal. Not yet anyway. If you want android, go for an android phone.
ok because I saw the XDAndroid thread and they said they had fixed those problems with the latest rootfs and zimage, and I guess its as fast as XDAndroid on Touch Diamond?
I havent actually used XDAndroid on Touch Diamond so I can't compare speed. But the fact that the camera isn't working and it cant be installed to rom is really the only reason I haven't switched. Plus they say the battery life isn't the best but I can't confirm since I havn't really used it for any period of time.
If you are used to how it runs on TD you may not find it any different. But I will still stand by my previous statement in that if you want android, get an android phone.
i have used XDANDROID on my diamond 2 for a few weeks, its ok, still not stable enough and too many issues to be used daily,
if you want to use android on a daily basis and have full functionality then i have to agree with LordVarkson, as there are way too many issues with android on TD2
although WM on the diamond 2 is really stable and works very well and is more than capable of running HTC sense (in fact HTC released a stock rom with sense on it )
ok thanks for the answers
the problem is the price, a HTC Hero cost about $300 and the Diamond2 $180, that I have to pay more for a free os feels, well, what the f*ck, but true true, Android works way better on Hero than on Diamond2 but is it worth the price? Since WM feels old fashion but its cooler with a phone with Android that not many others have. I will look for a cheap Hero if I can find one though, but my economy isn't very good since I can't get a job (too young)
Yes, I understand you problem. Before I could work, I just scraped together money from whatever I could do, and bought second had of sites like ebay. If you are sure to get from a reputable seller, they aren't that bad.
I´ve owned a Diamond 2 and can say it´s a great device, never got any problem.
Of course after getting rid of the stock ROM and flashed with one from XDA

Today I decided to test my custom rom compared to a stock TD2 in the shops. I was devestated when the stock rom outperformed my high speed titanium rom. It was really fast, opening messaging in a second max, where my device took as long as 3 seconds to open
