Have noticed something on my Fuze today-
My screen is starting to turn yellow right where the little keyboard icon is between the soft buttons. There is also another small spot 1.5 inches directly above that.
You can really only see it when the screen is showing bright colors- in landscape entering a text message, during boot when the AT&T world phone splash screen is on...
Seems like it is starting to get a little darker day by day.
Is anyone else noticing anything like this on their TP or Fuze?
Tnx
No way man, that's definitely not normal. In years dealing with pdas I haven't heard of burn-in.
Sounds defective- I'd take it back and exchange if I were you.
the technology behind lcd result in burn in never being possible at all
it's a thing only located in crt and plasma screens
Burn in isnt the right terminology, I know. It's not burn in like a CRT, its more like after the screen has been on a while, I start to see discoloration in those two little areas.
In other words, if you look at the keyboard icon in lower bar right after you turn the PDA on, it is white.
After 15 or so minutes of use, the white outline starts turning yellowish.
The longer the screen is on, the more yellow this spot gets.
It's almost like there is a surface mount LED right under that spot that is heating the LCD and causing it to discolor.
Does that make any sense?

I just noticed today a rectangular area on my lcd screen where it looks like oil on water. It's basically a rectangle w/ a half inch border of the "Normal" screen. I can see it from any angle as well as when the phone is turned off. The phone and the touch screen both appear to be working fine. The distortion will react to pressure on the distored part of the screen as well. I'm thinking some moisture got in my phone some how (although I can't for the life of me think when I could've gotten moisture in there). Is there an easy way to fix this or should I call up ATT support to see about sending it in to have them fix it? What's the general next step? I'll post a pic when I get home to my camera. I've had the phone since the first of the year and am currently using EnergyROM 2.0.
Thanks a ton,
Patrick
I haven't seen anything like this before but if it it was you say its probably moisture inside or even oil. Wait a little and see if it clears up, failing that give AT&T a call.
Holy Crap
Dude i have the same problem with mine sometimes, and i thought i was the only one!!
Its almost like the LCD screen is getting some burn-in. Even on a black screen you can see the shadow of an image, using touch flow 3d/2d its about half of the slider bar on the bottom of the screen. Did you also notice that the screen is flickering VERY slightly in the same area, but not on the rest of the screen? You have to try REALLY hard to see it. Almost like when you use a camcorder to see a CRT monitor's refresh rate. I had a feeling from the beginning that it was moisture causing this, because i do have the bad habit of taking my phone in the bathroom when I shower. My LID has turned pink because of the steam.
What makes me think it could be screen burn-in, is that I always keep my backlight as bright as possible, and once i see this start happening, i can turn my phone off for a few minutes, turn it back on and it works just fine with no image shadow.
I actually have been thinking about using my insurance to get a new phone because of this, and making sure i don't shower with the new one.
It's a known issue of the phone. I was able to get mine replaced, but I had it less than 30 days. You should be able to manage to get them to replace it if you make them look up known issues with the phone.
Sorry for the inactivity, I've been spending my days pulling Cat 5e in attics and haven't had much computer time at work / energy at home - I'm going to get in touch w/ ATT sometime this week and see about arranging a replacement, I'll post my results.
i have the same problem. near the corners i see very slight flickering as if the refreshrate can't handle the tf3d.
it most likely because of the themes. when using all of those non-original themes, it' shaving to load all the images, causing it to have very very slight lag. maybe?
it's rediculous, with the price of this phone, you'd expect higher technology for the screen.
Your digitizer is touching the LCD because too much pressure has been applied to it, probably in your pocket.
What you are seeing are Newton's rings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_rings
I think we're talking about two different problems here.
First, you have the rectangular area like the topic starter described and may indeed be what bubble said. However, they are not rings... its a true square (at least for me).
Second, you have the flickering issue. I have this myself sometime at the position of the menu bar. Opera seems to be the only app that triggers this for me though - then i get flickering Opera 'burn in' like effect. This will eventually disappear again after keeping the phone off for a few hours, then on with the screen off. This effect does survive soft-reset and such.
Newton's rings is the name of the observed optical phenomenon. It has nothing to do with it's shape.
I know that in this case it appears on a square section of the screen (I face the same issue and I already ordered a replacement screen).
Is there a solution to the flickering and screen burn problem? I didn't notice it until I had loaded a 6.5 rom and was using the light colored R&R theme. I could then see flickering in the bottom portion of the screen. Then I notice the screen burn of both soft keys.
It went away overnight with the phone off, but came back by the end of the day. It's really upsetting as I love this phone, but hate having something that isn't working right. Any suggestions?
I've had the same issue a couple of times although it wasn't nearly the entire screen. It was just a small blob in the very center of the screen. It happened because it was in my pocket. When it occurred initially it was summer (30-40 degrees celcius here in Perth) and would fix itself after about 5 minutes of being in my hot car (temperature hot, not awesome hot =D ). However (more recently - it's colder now) it stayed for half a day or so and only fixed itself after I sat it in front of the cars heating vents with the heater on for about 10 minutes (not too hot). I'm wondering if the digitiser separates from the LCD when heat is applied. It makes sense to me but I'm not sure I'd recommend anyone trying my solution ... especially if you've got the big square issue.
You also have to be aware that this phenomenon is only visible under artificial light.
That's why some people report it to disappear/reappear.
True ... but when the "phenomenon" disappears (i.e. as the lcd seperates from digitiser) it makes a clicking noise and the screen behind the blob flickers (like when you push on a normal LCD with your finger) indicating that the pressure of the digitiser pulling the screen upwards has been released. Once this has happened the blob has gone. It's not visible under ANY light.
If it happens again ... I'll get some footage.
I found another thread regarding the "Oil Spot" that comes and goes on the LCD that I'm experiencing if others are interested:

Oops - double post
Hi guys, I have the solution for you! I see burn-ins on my screen and I was able to get rid of them with a simple video that switches fast the main colors (Red Green Blue). Here is the link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liMySLZkF5o
I have the video pulled from youtube as mp4, and 5 minutes of playing on full screen, the display got back to normal, clear and without any burn-ins.
If you need the mp4 vid, let me know so I can send it over (email)
Regards to All
If I look at an all-white screen at certain angles, I see a subtle effect where the top inch of the screen (in portrait mode) looks slightly darker/grayer than the rest of the screen with a sort of faint line dividing it. It's easiest to see it on the lowest brightness setting for me (which is what I use most of the time indoors).
Does anyone else have this issue? Or is it likely that my Charge's screen has a defect? It's something that I can live with, but still bothersome nonetheless.
An easy way to get a full white screen is to go into a browser and browse to about:blank
I don't see that at all, I think you've got a bad screen.
OK thanks, was pretty sure it couldn't be normal. Will probably actually go and exchange it now that I can't stop thinking about it.
i had this same issue with my infuse 4g!
I have bought an asus infinity a week ago and it was the most exciting device i have ever had untill a white dot poped up in the middle of the screen .
Im afraid now that more dots will apear and it gets worse. so,do i have to exchange it specialy ,that i dont face any other problem with it.
ps. iam using stock rom and serial no starts with c8.
exchangeing it is very diffecult for me if it is not impossible
Could someone who has had "Bleed" problems describe how these actually look? I would like to know what to look for. Is it ambient light from the outside washing out the picture, is it blotches where the black colors are washed out, or is it something else? I notice a slight degradation in black/white transition quality when I boost the brightness to 100%, but I would consider that a normal affect.
Based on the complaints here, I feel very much in the minority of people who are content with their tablets, though I suspect the content folks have less to talk about. I am not crazy about the "looseness" of my power or volume switches, but my screen fits, the software moves within normal limits and everything else is sound.
Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can offer about the "bleed" issue.

Light bleed is a little hard to catch at times.
What to look for are bright areas around the edge of the screen.
If you hold the tablet at a low angle when the screen is presenting a gray or an off white color it will be visible (if it's there.)
Light bleed is most visible when cold booting (tablet all the way off-then powered back on) and screen is very dark.
Just about any device that has an LCD screen has varying degrees of light bleeding.
Some tablets have bleeding at all times, some just during boot and others none or it disappears after warming up.
I have sometimes noticeable light bleed from right edge, luckily it goes away after warming up..
I took a look around and didn't see anything similar, but it seems like the bottom left corner of my screen is brighter than the rest when it is grey. It's not super noticeable, but you can kind of see it when the nav bar changes in the settings menu.
I assumed it was backlight bleed, but I don't see it when the screen is black, only grey.
Does anyone else have any experience with this? I don't know if I am just crazy or not., i.e. is this even a possibility.

Try a screenshot, and a photo. Does it only appear on one of those?
Doesn't show in a screenshot. However, I went and looked at a display model and it was somewhat similar... At this point i think it's minor enough not to mess with. Especially since I don't have any of the other issues.
e.: It looks like its the back light shining. I guess the weird part is that I don't see it on a black screen.
The same here. The phone is Rev.2, 10.10.2014. This issue is on many Z3 phones, because i had at least eight Z3 phones in my hands for the last 2 monthes, and almost everyone has an uneven grey (white) or some kind of shadings on bottom of screen. I don`t know what`s the problem, i`m a little bit hate Sony for that, i buy a expensive phone, and it have such a problems, maybe this is not so much critical, but for me it is unpleasant thing.
---------- Post added at 03:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 AM ----------
And, by the way, for those 2 monthes i still didn`t found a "perfect" Z3. Everyone has an other issues: if the screen was ok, it has a uneven gaps between screen and frame, if there`s no gaps on the screen, there`s a caps with gaps, if there no gaps at all, there`s a problem with the screen, and, as i wrote earlier, almost everyone phone i looked has a uneven grey (white) on bottom of screen, but some of them has a gaps problem in addition to the problem with the screen, and some of them didn`t, but from those 8-10 phones i looked in a last 2 monthes, noone has no problem at all! This is sad, but it`s true. Or maybe i`m so lucky
I went in and got it exchanged as it was bleeding light from the gap, and now this one is worse, and on both sides. I was told by the sales rep that "All of ours are like that, it must just be how its made", and they wouldn't give me another. This one also has a pink spot on the camera. I am going to another store tomorrow. At this point I can deal with the uneven grey, but not this. I'm going to tell them Sony said the light in the gaps was a manufacturing defect... even if they haven't directly said that.
Got a third one.... better, but same issues. It is lighter in the bottom right corner of the screen, but since you have said that seems to just be how most are, I'll probably just try to get used to it.
same issue
I have exactly the same problem but with the colour white, the lower right hand side of the screen is a tad bit darker than the left when the screen is displaying a white colour, one has to really observe the screen carefully to notice it,however it is a bit irritating after you learn that you spent so.much on a phone with this kind of problem, Sony should really step up heir quality controls.
For me it's the lower left corner that's slightly darker (or the lower right corner that's brighter, whichever way you want to look at it). I've had so many Z3's in my hands and this issue is pretty common. Though it has to be said that grey is a very difficult color for displays in general as it points out even the slightest non-uniformity. It's not surprising that a solid grey screen is recommended for TV's if you want to test for clouding or DSE.
I think in the end we should just let it be if its a general problem, it shouldnt spoil our experience with such a great handset.
Anyone else experience anything like this? I've just started noticing that there are faint lines all up and down the screen. There doesn't appear to be a reason they show up, and they don't always stick around. In fact, they seem to fade in and out.
Once you notice them you can't un-see them though. I doubt this is something that would come across in a screenshot, but I will try to take a photo with another phone and post it.
Well I finally have some pictures to show what I'm seeing. Hopefully I'm not the only one?
everything fine until now here
did you contact the xiaomi support ?
Check that it's not just colour banding in your wallpaper.
Absolutely not just my wallpaper. I notice it most on my keyboard, but the lines are up and down the entire display regardless of what is on the screen.
Since I bought the phone from an eBay reseller in the US, I highly doubt they'll consider my warranty valid.
Hi, yes, I have the exact same thing happening. It started like half an hour ago, I've been on a walk, with a headphone plugged in for 2 hours. When I got home, I noticed the stripes especially on colors that are not entirely white, like the notification shade pulled down on a white background. Now it starts to fade away and is barely noticeable. Did it go away on your device, or it still persists? Did you do anything about it?
