Why, why! AT&T - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I just went to a local AT&T store to look at the newly released Fuze. I am not sure why AT&T has to ruin things every time a new HTC phone is released. The manager handed over his FUZE and it was covered with fingerprints and finger oil. I was so thrilled to see HTC change the design of the chassis to matte finish from the glossy cover of Diamond. Then, AT&T commits this hideous crime. I had a full intention of purchasing one, but walked out of the store empty handed.
My question, now, is this.
Can a 900/2100Mhz version of Touch Pro be converted to work with US 3G network (850Mhz) by flashing it with a AT&T radio? Or is this a hardware issue?
Anyone shares the same feeling?

the back makes that much a difference? thats just kinda ridiculous
and no the only way to get 3g is to use the att one or wait for the na unlocked which will probly be 800

Yup!
From the pictures, I didn't think it would be so such a big deal, but when I saw it, I just lost all desire to upgrade.

ha! i had that. Gone to a doctor in houston, tx

I wonder if the euro back cover will fit the fuze..? Hmmmmmmm, solution..?

the piano black finish is actually really nice. Just gota get some clear coat/invisible shield on it to keep it clean.
as for the 3g...hasnt it already been established that it's a hardware issue and that the only way to use it on AT&T network is to buy fuze!? this must be the 5th or 6th thread asking the same thing...well..half of this thread asks the same thing

covers....?

I know the pic looks NOTHING like the euro touch pro but I don't think they put up the correct pic yet as it states in the listing.

ok ok peep this, would this work...
grab a spray can of laquer and lightly mist the back cover
it would give it some texture and it would give it a duller, matted look.
but really, it's the back of the phone so whats the big deal? and you can always nonchalantly (yeah i cant spell) wipe it on your buttcheek

Did that earlier, it works!

Be smart use your brain, first off it's only a back piece. Second of all simply buy the phone and buy a replacement back piece for an unlocked Touch Pro version and snap it in, it's the same back piece! No need to spray pant your phone, LOL.
I didn't get mine yet but not because of the back finish I simply don't want to wait for rebates and all that garbage I'll get mine when BBY Mobile gets them, if they never get them then I guess I'll just never get the phone. To be honest I lost 99% of my interest in this thing waiting for it to come out, now it's like I don't know if I even want it anymore.

true dat, but, if you have a decent phone then you can wait. as for me, i've been using a t-mobile mda with a failing keyboard so i've been watching the release dates like a hawk. then when i went monday to play with a demo before the big release, the guy said yeah we had these for a couple days now. DOH

Agreed. If the back was enough to completely turn you off of the Fuze, then you clearly didn't want it that badly to begin with.

Well..
Is this the perfect device (that is really subjective) Do I dislike the fingerprint aspect, Yes, Can I live with that, Yes. will someone come up with a fix for that (most likely).
Cheers
BR

I've found the butt cheek wipe works (wipes?) better if there is fabric covering the butt cheek.

Wow, i have to agree this thread is really lame.

There are many names I could call you, but I'll keep them clean... Negative Nancy, Debbie Downer, take your pick, there's no reason for a comment like that. You're always the first to tell me half of my posts are arguing, yet 75% of yours are scolding others for what they do on the forum. If it's such a crime he'll be admonished by a moderator, let them judge.

While the glossy black fingerprint sucking evilness of the device IS a huge turnoff, I bought it anyway .
It's a shame it's glossy though. You'd have thought electronics companies would have learned their lesson after PSP, but apparently not. I *hate* glossy black electronics with a fiery passion. Still...the Fuze is a damn nice phone

Indeed, I loved the gray the pre-release had, I don't know why they wrecked it. They had the choices of either matte black like the unlocked version or gray like the pre-release, and they picked glossy black like the Diamond, ugh. The Diamond looks really sharp... until you touch it. Same goes for the Fuze now.

I held the Fuze today!!!! share your Fuze story

so today was a good day. for one i was blessed to wake up this morning and to top it of i held a ATT FUZE in my hand. it was the best 10 plus minutes in my life while i was wearing clothes lol. yes people i was at the store today in Milford, CT. the sales associate there had a test model. and i must say it is everything you would have guessed it would be. first off both the stores i went to in the Milford, CT area said the phone will be available the first week in november. so the oct. 23 date is a farse. the guy at the store named weel call "joe the plumber" (cause he is so famous these days) said he had his training on this past tuesday. and most likely the phone will be in his words. "the same price as the tilt when it came out or price competativaly with the iphone. with the rebate if u get the data upgrade." im probally not going to say any thing about the phone you dont know but it reafems the fact that it is real and is as good as advertized. and in the Milford store i was told i was the only person to ask about the phone so i should be the only one with it for a while. im the 1st person in the list for the saleperson. i cant wait for that call in november.
the phone= it self has the diamond back like the unlocked version. i dont know i asked why cause sprints diamond has a soft touch back and he said "the test group didnt like that feture." but i said if ur typing on the table the phone will wiggle cause of the uneven back. i think att was lazy and told htc to change the keyboard and ship the phone out. lol. and the phone is so light. the tilt is a brick compared to this phone. i currently hava lg cu500 and it is bout .25" taller and not much thicker. and that is good cause you get a ful keybaord.
the keyboard= lost the upper top row of just numbers. but it has a lot of quick bottons for text and internet and such. also has a phone style number pad on the keyboard. the keys felt nice and the sliding was smooth. and the screen responded nice. though the accelerometer was not as resposive as he iphone when you moved the phone when viewing webpages. but the zoom was sick.
the camera= i didnt really take pics but the pics he toke and had on the phone was clear. he also showed me the card reader program. with this program you take a pic of a bussines card and it scans the info and make a new ocntact on your phone. it toke like 15 sec for it to scan i thought it froze but it was understandable and still amazinfg when all the info was pust in the correct name, address, etc. sections on the screen. the touch flo with pics are amazing and the screen is so nice. the phone had a led flash if i remember correct. i was so distracted by the pretty screen and touch flo i didnt take time to look much at the buttons and such on the phnone. but i temember a white/yellow thing below the camera lense.
what the phone comes with. the phone i looked at was a test phone so jow said all he got in his black unmarked box was cd, phone, usb, and charger. i know when i went to the sprint store in Hamden, CT where i live and looked at the diamond it came with that and a holtster, air buds, screen protector. i hope att add these things cause for the price i kinda expect it, and htc makes them for the unlocked phone so it should happen.
touch flo was sick. it works as adverticed. they obviously added a att store tab. the pics scrooled nice, and the music player was cool. the contact was scroolable too. i mean everything that you already know is there.
so in closing. the 1st week in november is the date to look for. not this oct 23 but im ok with being proved wrong lol. please excuse and grammer errors. the price should be $300- $400 with the rebate. its not the iphone so they are not going to make there money of volume. and if i remember correct it is a dark red color. i hope this was helpfull to someone cause i was excited when i saw it. though i played it cool. lol Thanks

I don't know if he was trying to be pejorative with his reply, but I enjoyed your long post and its little details.
I'm a bit disappointed with the ATT version of this phone from all accounts. There are really two big things for me. First, the top row of keys would be far more useful had it been left alone as numbers in my opinion. I'm sure I'll get used to it if I end up buying the Fuze, but it's still a disappointment.
The second issue is really just an annoyance, which may end up being completely null in the end. It's the Diamond back, and how prone to wobbling it seems it will be. However, without a tilting screen it is unlikely I would ever really be typing on it while on flat surface anyway (in fact, I normally pick up my Tilt to type even with the tilting screen). And ever since discovering Pocket Controller Pro I'm even less likely to even touch my phone while it's on my desk. So maybe the positives of the aesthetic Diamond back actually outweigh the probably minor negatives of its functionality.

It's odd, my Fuze actually sat on a table and stayed in one position, didn't lean either way, just sat there with the way the back was. I had no problems with it. Also, I'm surprised to see you didn't like the symbols on top, most people I've spoken with (myself included) like the functionality of the symbols. Oh well, to each their own.
Which store in Milford? I used to live there but i'm in college in NYC now. At the Post mall or next to the Starbucks and stuff?
yes the one in the mall. the one by starbuks had a guy that was going for the training but as far as i know there was no test phone at that store. which is weird cause that is the bigger store.
and also i did test typing with the diamond back and it in fact did wobble when typing on a flat surface. though ur right u probably would just hold it rather than type on a flat surface.

Did the phone make that shutter noise when you took a picture?

Even if it does, you can remove it.
With 3rd party software or with a feature that is built-in?
There are countries passing out laws that a camera on a phone must make that noise so people in the area know a photo is being taken. I was just wondering if AT&T Fuze was on that list.

if the phone is on silent it wont or im sure you can do a tweak or registry change anyway
all right, thanks!
A friend of mine got the nokia n82 with a 5 MP camera. The problem that he finds with it is that the camera makes that noise through the speaker when he takes a picture with it. Even when his phone is on silent or when his headphones are plugged in. I don't think he's found a tweak for it yet.
I was just wondering if it was the same with the Fuze. If anyone who has it can confirm it, it will be greatly appreciated.
when "Joe" toke the picture for the business card it did make a flash sound. though i dont know if the feature can be turned off. but like posted before im sure someone here will be able to fix that no prob.
and on a side note has anyone got any new on the android OS working on the fuze.

Damn, just googled Milford, CT, and it would be an hours drive... Guess I'll have to wait until release to play with the Fuze
P.S. To the guy with the camera questions, every HTC phone that I know of has had the option to turn off the camera sound...

yes i do mean a dark red like the black jack II. it was ruby, dark burgundy color. i maybe mistaken cause i was blinded by the sole fact that i has the phone in my hand. lol

Well there are two reasons I would prefer the numbers. First of all, it's more like an actual computer keyboard. That would make it more comfortable and normal feeling - at least in theory. Second - and more importantly - I type numbers more often than I type symbols. Having the convenience of not needing to press the function key would be very nice.
I suppose it could go either way though. I'm definitely going to try out the keyboard before I buy, and I'll likely try out the Sprint version (or unlocked HTC version, if I can get my hands on one for a few minutes without purchasing it) also just to make sure. With a fifth row, I'm sure it's an improvement over the four rows on my Tilt no matter which configuration though, so it's not even close to a deal breaker. Just a little disappointment.
Out of curiosity, why would you prefer symbols? I really can't think of a reason why they would be better than numbers, so I'm wanting to know from someone who has that opinion.

i think most people don't mind the number PAD because you can press Fn twice to do a number lock. And since the numbers are grouped together, theoretically it's easier to type series of numbers...ie. phone number
i didn't like the fact that 5th row # was removed (they added that 5th row for THAT REASON!), but then I can see other people's point as well...oh well, i've come to accept that fact, as long as Fuze doesn't make us wait any longer

hey guys, i really dont like the back cover on the fuze, and heard that the touch pro back cover (gsm version, not sprint) is a rubberized one.. is that true? if so, does anybody know if they're interchangeable? if they are, where can we get them.. i've searched ebay and cnn.cn, and neither one has it right now.. thanks

I would prefer the matte version of the cover as well, but not to the tune of $31.00 + shipping. For that amount of money, I can put up with a lot of fingerprints!

It's the wrong picture; the site says, "The product image is for illustration only, not the actual bettery [sic] cover."
I sent them an email a couple of weeks ago asking if this (http://www.windowsmobilenow.com/us/p...er=wmusfroogle) would fit the Fuze and was told in so many words "no".
i'd actually prefer this one:
http://www.windowsmobilenow.com/us/p_wm_acc1.aspx?i=172018
but not as an "Extended" version. the picture is hard to make out, but it's looks flat at hte back. I'd rather have that than teh stupid diamond back design lol
All the guys with the Sprint CDMA version complain about their backs to. Minus the fact that Sprint stupidly went with a non-matching colou,r I'd actually prefer the CDMA backing, it's matte, smooth, and IMO looks better

Confirmed, the one sent IS the original touch pro cover. I love it!

Is there a film on the buttons?

Hi. I really am confused now... There is a film coming off from the main buttons (below the screen) I didn't put it there but it really seems similar to the screen protective shield. My question - is it replaceable part or is the device getting broken? If yes, is it a specific material (to let the touch to the buttons)? The point is I have a place to get custom screenshields and I'd surely make one for the lower part also
Thanks in advance.
InvisibleShield is the way to go

Woo man thanks BIG time. This is really worth the money. But as I mentioned I have friends who have the precise tools to produce the shield. It is called "rock/stone-proof" if you translate from estonian. Just wondering if it wont block the touch capability of buttons (they are touch responsive, not pressure responsive like the screen)
you can also get the ones from Bodyguardz which is just as good.
OK. Great replys.
And now the big question:
Was there supposed to be a film AT FIRST on the buttons? I never put it there. It seems a bit fatter than the notorious screenshield. But the surface below it is smooth and the homekey "house" also doesn't seem affected so i think it is separate part. I haven't dared to rip it entirely off yet. But I want to know if I can replace it because the open corner is really ugly for noe
youre talking about the laminate coming up on the navipad buttons. its a common problem and there are many threads about it. http://www.fuzemobility.com/keys-peeling/ if you have att they will replace you with a new "fixed" phone. if you dont then htc probably wont do anything for you. you can pull it up but you may have a problem getting the glue residue off.

Thank you big time. This was the best reply. Of course the situation is making me a bit nervous... Well I have decided to pull it off anyway and am going to replace it with the shield I mentioned before.
Thanks. End of thread I think.
SOLVED!
The custom shield is working. Made with Adobe Illustrator. Based on scanning. Just put the raph into a scanner and redraw the outlines. The output came from Roland plotter/printer/slicer/whatever it is. For free.

myTouch 4G paint falling off from the frame

I had the phone for two days and got the phone permrooted and simunlock, I was so pleased with the phone until I see the paint on the metal frame is started to peel off. I have to admit I never had good luck with HTC phones. I've been using htc phones since HTC Magician, from WM5 to Android 2.2, none of them worked right out of the box for me. Previous HTC phones I owned either LCD had lots of stuck pixels, scratches on phone, phone won't boot, or dusts under screen. This time, the paint peels out on the mytouch's metal frame. I guess I will send it back for a warranty replacement... maybe in a month or two. I wonder if HTC is just not good at quality or its me having bad luck with their phones. I'm not angry or pissed at all, I guess I got used to this happening on me with HTC phones now.
If it has an obvious manufactor defect then why not revert to stock and take it back, all states have buyers remorse time. It just sounds dumb to hold on to defective device
Yea I know... but I got the phone from a good friend of mine who works at T-Mobile authorized dealer. He knows all about the history between me and HTC phones and he warned me about it. I insist to get it anyway. So I just don't want to bug him to return another HTC phone for me this time.
Mines not pealing and I even dropped and scratched the chrome trim right by the genius button.

Like I said earlier, I admit had bad luck with HTC phones, I don't see how difficult is that to understand. If I do think they make poor quality phones, I wouldn't get them in the first place. If you think this thread should be deleted, then we should start with your posts. Don't convince me that HTC phones never had manufacturer defects. If you don't like it then move on.

Mine isn't peeling but I do notice the chrome trim to be very sensitive.
I don't encounter much problem with HTC products...
US SDA (metal frame peeled off)
US MDA
6800 Sprint
TP Sprint
TP2
HD2
nexus one
MT4
Most of them worked right out of box and I don't/didn't have much problem.

No I don't think they makes poor phones. I don't see it happen to any other mt4g phones but it happened to mine.

My chrome bezel chipped off in one small area too. I don't care; you can barely see it. Which product nowadays is without a flaw? You get what you paid for....

I'm not angry or pissed at all, I guess I got used to this happening on me with HTC phones now.

you don't have to return it to t-mobile. you can go to any t-mobile corporate store and they will exchange it for a new one, right out of inventory. you don't even need your receipt.
This may be a dead topic but I personally am ripping apart my phone and custom painted it. Going with some chameleon paint or pearl paint, stuff you use on cars and going to professionally spray it. Tired of black and it's peeled off on the back and bezel, looks ugly.
Why get a new phone when your current phone works fine, just change the rom out or port a rom from a phone that you really want, save up and then get the dream phone. But by then.. a better phone comes out
That's what started happening to my MyTouch4G. I got it from my cousin since he didn't use it anymore, and before you know it, the paint started chipping. I wanted my phone to look nice and not janky, so I just ordered a new body and had my friend it it all back for me and voila! It looks brand spanking new. You can either do what I did or paint over it, or go to t-mobile and they will replace it if you're still under warranty.

[Q] Removing dust under the screen

Got another One X last weekend. I checked the screen thoroughly in store to make sure it was flawless. I have now however noticed that there is a spec of dust under the screen. It was definitely not there when I checked it in store, spent ages on a solid white background making sure.
So is there anyway I can try and get rid of it. It got there on its own somehow so I must at least be able to move it off the side of the screen one way or another. It's no big deal if I can't get rid of it as its hardly noticeable in every day use.
I have tried gently tapping the screen and knocking it on its side but it hasn't moved so far. I don't want to try to hard encase I damage the phone. Don't want to try and take the phone apart and attempt to separate the touch component from the LCD and try either as the phone is so new.
Att will exchange for dust under the screen. But. When the phones been on and in use allowing the screen to get warm about 30 minutes lightly tap in the opposite direction. Should move the dust out.
Work on my iPhone back in the day. :/

pretty sure the glass is glued to the lcd and stuck there forever!
Thanks for the reply's. I'm in Australia so now ATnT for me. This is my 9th. Very happy with this one. Won't be returning it for this unless more gets under there. I must be able to move it. I'll try leaving it on max brightness as you suggested and go from there.
It must be possible to separate the digitizer from the LCD because you can buy a replacement -

Cloths dryer?
Its not worth exchanging unless more gets under there. I'm getting tired of setting up new ones so I can live with this issue unless it gets worse.
Since the panel is laminated to the glass (right?), forget it. Exchange.

Bugger. Wonder how it got there then. Haven't been able to move it at all. Who knows maybe it was there and just didn't see it when I bought it. I have 30 days to take it back so I'll hold of and see what happens.

Um not to be a complete **** but after working retail for 6 years as a store manager for At&t and several years in I.T / EE / and project management. The chances of you running into 9 defects of a single model and brand new replacements are are probably slimmer than you getting struck by lightning and winning the lottery together. I would start asking myself am I OCD, do I have dementia, should I be ruling out Delirium..
Ok, sorry I'm being an ass. Just saying.. you either have the worst luck in the world. I read your post completely wrong, or; its you. Either way hope you get it figured out. This phone really is something extraordinary.

My first had dead pixels and a yellow spot. Second had creaking and a rattle. 3rd dent in the lcd panel under the digitizer. The next 5 I unboxed in store. Some had dead pixels and the others had bad dust under the screen.
I didn't tell them were the dust or pixels were, just that there was something wrong with the screen, they pointed them out. The dust under this one is nothing like the ones I unboxed in store a while back, some specs were almost as big as the dot on the letter i which is why I'm going to stick with this one.
I don't think it's to much to ask to get one without dust under the screen seeing as how there are many out there with defect free phones. I feel like I am entitled to the same experience as them, paid the same hard earned money as them after all.. I suspect though that many probably have dust etc but have either not noticed or choose to live with it.
Your right about the phone being extraordinary, which is why I haven't stuck with a refund. Really no going back after you have had a phone like this.
Edit: check this forum out. I'm not the only one with issues and multiple returns. It's a shame so many are having repeat issues.

LOL
This guy worked in retail & engineering and the bases of his argument is the fact he thinks dust and imperfections are ludicris for someone to complain about! Now if he worked at the HTC manufacturing plant where they made these phones and can honestly produce manufacturing data depicting margins of error of defect in the manufacture of these devices in several respective categories then we can break the odds down mathematically and prove whether this poster is full of $hit, delusional etc!
Until then I'll keep lolling @ the response It was good
He's got a point... Say the odds of you getting a messed up screen is 1 in 1000... Multiply .001 by itself 9 times. Those are the odds of you actually getting 9 broken phones in a row.
Edit... It's 1x10^-27.... So yeah, you'd win the lottery a couple of times.
