transfer contacts and sms's from TYTN to Fuze? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Ok I'm having some problems with this. Ive tried to use PIM backup and it sort of works. It backups and restores (sort of) all of my sms's but none of my contacts.
The sort of part is that the sms window is really slow and its not threading together the messages. When I turn off threaded messaging all is well.
when I went from wm5 to wm6.1 on my tytn I used spb backup and it worked perfect all the messages threaded no issues, it took a few mins but when it was all done all was well.
Ive tried the spb backup again but SPB dosent allow you to use a backup from one device on another type of device.
On the contacts issue I did the same thing on my tytn when I went from wm5 to wm6.1 I used spb backup and like magic they were all there with pictures and other info.
So you gurus out there any ideas?
Many thanks in advance!!

Activesync will do that? It has a use?! I thought it was just some annoying program I had to use to install non cab file programs, thanks I never thought about it.

Does this copy SMS messages too?

Is it possible to copy over non-threaded SMS to threaded with any of these programs? I've got an 8525 with WM6 going to a FUZE.

Yeah... Didn't work for me. I copied pim.vol (4.5MB) from my 8525 to my MicroSD card, then put it in the Fuze, renamed the Fuze pim.vol to pim.vol.fuze and copied the 8525 in its place (using total commander). I shut down and restarted as well as pushing the soft reset. No SMS messages show up.
Did I do something wrong or miss something?
[Edit]
I guess it's called patience. It looks like they just take forever to load or thread or whatever. I ended up using PIM Backup though as I only needed the messages. Also, there's no "Multimedia Messages" folder to copy to on the Fuze. I'll have to move those somewhere else.

there is no mms folder with threaded turned on if you turn it off there will be a folder. the mms messages are threaded too

Can I go back and forth (non-threaded to move them then threaded to join them)? If not, is there another way to get the MMS messages from one to the other?

Okay, I took the plunge and tried turning it off and on again (using SMS Tweaker 1.5). I didn't lose any messages, but the Multimedia Messages folder never shows up. I'd really like to keep my old MMS messages. Anyone got any suggestions?

anyone know a cab file for separating sms from mms?

im using wrcx3 rom and its really good, but i cant restore my messages. ive tried pim backup, spb backup, sprite backup...still cant..
i noticed the other rom i used, tnt5 touchflo, had separated the sms from mms....and i could restore my messages on there..
i thought maybe its cuz the sms and mms were together.
anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
You can't seperate them once they're put together. The only way to do it is to flash a ROM that has the seperated version included.

Now I want to remove it but have no idea where it has stored all of my texts and i want them back in poutlook where they belong!!
Anyone know how?
Thanks
Doh!
I'm stuck in the same boat here. Could you please tell me how you solved this?

...in your Messages app.
Normally txts go into your SMS/MMS...Inbox.
After SMS-Chat installs, more folders are created.
Move them out of the SMS-Chat...Inbox and back into your SMS/MMS...Inbox
Move your SMS-Chat...Sent itmes back into your SMS/MMS...Sent folder
Same for Drafts
Finally delete the SMS-Chat folder and you're done

WM 6.1 - unable to restore all SMS

I have received the MDA Vario III this week and started to backup all SMS, etc from my old Vario I.
Before that, I have simunlocked my Vario III and put on the official WM6.1 ROM (ROM 3.03.405.0.WWE, Radio 1.64.06.04),
I have backupped my old SMS, etc on the Vario I with PIM Backup (but also used HTC Data Backup) and trasfered the backup-file to my Vario III.
There I did a restore.
Contacts, call history, etc was restored fine.
Only problem is that not all my SMS was restored.
PIM Backup said to have restored 25 SMS (which is correct), but on the Vario III is shows only like 10 SMS in my inbox.
Does the Vario III automatically hide some SMS or something ?
Someone had the same problem ?
This has been discussed on the PIM backup thread. Have a look there for answers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
I had to restore twice. Once missed half of the messages I received. The second time they all appeared. I think I used the SMS/MMS software to clear all messages before the second restore.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction....I guess I completely overlooked it
I have tried several restores already, even only messages restore (or even only inbox restore), but I keep having only 10 messages where the database clearly says that 25 messages are in it.....
Strange....but I will discuss this further in the right thread.
change the sms WM6.1

this is only my personal opinion, for me the performance of WM6.1 is superb however the only thing i feel disadvantange/a little disappointed about WM6.1 is the way of sms program showing the message. i still like the old one style. really appreciated if you have the software to change it to the old one.

Problem with PIM Backup!

I used PIM Backup to backup my text messages before hard resetting my phone... this is an example of a threaded message before:
Code:
Me 1/1/8: Hey mate how's it going?
Bob 2/2/8: Good, whats been happening?
Me 3/3/8: Not much ... just work
Bob 4/4/8: Ahh ... that sux
When I restored the messages they appeared as follows:
Code:
Bob 2/2/8: Good, whats been happening?
Bob 4/4/8: Ahh ... that sux
Me 1/1/8: Hey mate how's it going?
Me 3/3/8: Not much ... just work
... I use PIM Backup 2.8
... this really sux.. is there anyway to "reindex" the messages or something to get them back in order?
Let me know if this has happend to you or how we can fix it.
Much appriciated,
Kris
Same happened to me and I solved it the following way:
You need a registry editor, I use resco, but anyone should work.
In "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Setting" you create a folder called OEM where you make a non threaded SMS setting, (reg attached to save you the hazzle) when that is done, softreset and restore the messages with PIM Backup, remember to set it to delete all previous messages and now you have all your messages the old fashion way with no threading.
Then you go to "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Setting" and delete the OEM folder created before, softreset and voila your messages is back to threaded format with right order.
a little work but apparently the PIM Backup for whatever reason cannot put them in right order when restoring

My registry doesnt have the setting folder ("HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Setting") has "HKCU\Software\Microsoft" though ... am i missing something?!
Thanks,
Kris
No, you didn't miss anything, it was me that was too quick when writing, it should be:
HKCU\software\Microsoft\inbox\settings
I forgot the inbox, sorry
Garcia
thanks alot
So many whoas solved in such little words.
Dude, I know this is an old thread, but this worked like a charm. Thanks so much!
Maybe someone should update the PIMBackup official thread to edit this in so other people having the same problem have something to refer to.
also, the key for those that don't want to install the .reg file:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM]
"SMSInboxThreadingDisabled"=dword:00000001

WM5 to WM6.1 - Backup/Restore SMS Msg's

Does anyone know how to backup SMS messages on WM5 and restore them to WM6.1?
Here's the rom I'm using (Sprint/version 1.2) http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showthread.php?t=397134
I tried PIMBackup it can backup and restore the messages fine on WM5 but it can't restore them to WM6.1. I do notice that it seems to have a seperate SMS client rather than just using "Messaging" like WM5 did, maybe that's why it won't work?
It's strange, a few will show up then stop. If I delete some of those a few more will come up. If I soft reset a few MIGHT come up.
It seems to be random, I can get anywhere from 10 to 100 to show up after a restore.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Kenny
I think I got it, don't know how...
I decided to try "SMSBackup" to look at the app I ran a backup on WM6.1.
And it backed up all my messages.
When the backup was complete my phone was counting up messages.
Up to 160 right now....
backup
Pimbackup is the simplest tool. find the attached enjoy more than you needed
Thanks for the reply that was actually the first thing I tried.
But I couldn't see the messages after the restore. It caused the behavior above.
With SMSBackup I can now see my inbox.
Still nothing in my Sent Items, but I don't really care.
Funny thing is if I do a backup it backs up all my sent items.
I guess it's just some more buggy palm software.
Thanks,
Kenny
