Band switcher - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I want to change my band from auto to GSM with the click of a button. In my house I have no 3G coverage so that is why I want to switch to GSM without having to go to settings and then phone etcetera. Can anyone tell me if this is a registry setting that is changed when I do this or is it some other method which will be impossible to find let alone built into a program by a noob like me? If not, does anyone have a built-your-simple-registry-switch app tutorial . Don't worry I'm not lazy or stupid. I will put my time and effort in it if someone can point me the right direction.

The only quick answer I can find, is that Elite ROM has exactly that.
They added a toggle switch in Comm Manager that does just that...

Hey,had the same problem. Get (Advanced Configuration Tool 3.3) from
http://www.touchxperience.com/en/advanced-configuration-tool/downloads.html
works great on the touch pro
It lets you add a 3g button/switch in your comm manager
run the program, you'll find the option in menu/comm manager
Hope this helps

Could you tell me which option that is? I've gon through all the options and I can't find one that would indicate a toggle switch in the Communications Manager. The only one that makes any sense to me is "Show Band page" but that's not what I want.
Sorry found it Never bothered to look in the Menu

You can find it here

[REQ] Toggle to switch between 2G/3G

Need something similar to the WiFi toggle, but for 3G/2G.
Anyone?
Bump...
Anyone? I can't be alone in wanting this??
Hi,
You can always toggle it in CommManager.
Yeah but the point is like the WiFi toggle - it's easier to have it on the home screen quicklinks rather than having to go into the comm manager
Find this program but not working well, is there any solution? thanks
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L37PKTA2
Looks like no one find it yet.
There are numerous requests on xda, but no real solution
I'd be interested in this too. The 'Advanced Network' program lets me change it, but it also says that I need to reset the device after I change the setting.
I'm looking for something that I can just quickly toggle a few times a day when I'm not actively using 3g.

How To Force EDGE with AT&T Motorola Backflip

It seems that ATT has disabled the ability to make the phone use 2G (EGDE) only in the default settings menus....however after searching the web for an answer and not finding anything but "it cant be done" ....I have figured it out with the app ANY CUT
For anyone who has not figured out how to force your Backflip to EDGE only in order to conserve battery life and if you are in an area known not to have 3G coverage here is what you do:
1. In the Market, download Any Cut. (This is a free app)
2. open Any Cut and choose New Shortcut
3. select Activity
4. Scroll down the list until you get to Phone Info
5. Select OK. (this will place the short cut on your homescreen)
6. Open the shortcut and scroll down until you see "Set Preferred Network Type"
7. Choose GSM only and you are set. This forces the phone to EGDE.
I have also turned the phone off and then turned it back on to make sure the setting sticks and it does 100%.
Enjoy.
DISCLAIMER: Please keep in mind that although I have 100% success with this that your results may vary depending what system tweaks you have already done on your phone. I have received both positive and negative feedback on this method so if it does not work for you i apologize.
wouldn't work
Hey man- I tried this and can see the menu but it keeps "hopping" back when I try to select it.. any other ideas? Thanks!

you are not the only one... he's been posting this method on most of the backflip forums and it seems to work for a minimal amount of people... if it works for ya, great... if you are like the majority, that it doesn't work for... keep trying, and digging for a solution... i've been messin with apn droid myself... but that turns off the data/edge/3g completely... not exactly what i was looking for, but it does save on battery
the one that i am trying to figure out is the operator selection... if i could get that setting from automatic to manual, i would feel alot better about this handset
This worked for me on the Motorola Bravo
I just wanted to add that this method has worked for me as well on the Motorola Bravo. For what it's worth.
I find a new way to set up the network selection.
Your phone must be rooted first.
open the file 'defaults.xml'
in the folder etc\motorola\com.android.phone
and change
<boolean name="network_select_menu" value="false" />
to
<boolean name="network_select_menu" value="true" />
save and restart ur phone.
Now u can change 3G to 2G from
setting->wireless&networks> Mobile networks > Select
network

Problem with Widgetsoid on Android

So I`m new here and if my thread is not on the right place - sorry. And here it is my problem:
I`m using Widgetsoid Switcher Widget and have this very annoying problem that when i turn on something it not works (For example: I turn on my data service, widget indicates that it`s turned on but actually it's not. If I turned it on from the Settings menu the widget indicates it`s turned on and when I stop it from the widget it doesn`t stop). Same with WiFi and GPS... This thing is freaking me out so if somebody can help me it would be great or if you can tell me other app like that one with options for customization. Thanks in advance
Can`t somebody help me?

Hi,
Try to uninstall, install and reboot directly after install (it's important!).
After go to global preferences and check "Disable all apn"
Create your widgets and it will be ok.
Now everythings is fine but Data Service still doesnt't work... Any ideas?
data toggle help
i had the same problem with the data/3g toggle on my htc evo. what you have to do is go to "settings->wireless & networks->then scroll down and make sure there is a check mark in the "mobile network" setting" in order for the widget to control it the setting must first be enabled. it took me and the dev 3 days to find this out.
also if that doesn't work go into the app itself and as soon as it opens it you should see something at the top that says data toggle mode. make sure that setting is set to "APN toggle" and not "APN rename"
hope this helps. remember to rep if it did
Thanks man
No problem

I had a similar problem today, it looks like the data switch in Widgetsoid places a dash in front of your AccessPoint name in order to block data transfer and removes that dash when you click switch again.
After messing with Widget I was not able to connect to net, I installed, uninstalled, etc, and then I noticed that APN list was empty, I had to add the APN again and restart it, I think (as said above) that you need the data to be ON then do a restart in order for Widgetsoid to properly read the status.
If you're rooted, use the new "root method" to toggle data. It doesn't mess with your APN & it works flawlessly for me. It's the first time I've had a data toggle that actually works.
A simple method
FIX = Settings>Location & Security>Select Device Administrators> *Uncheck Widgetsoid
Uninstalled
Thanks to: mr.noobsalot
I know this is an old thread, but where is the global preferences on version 3.4.1 it doesnt appear when I click apply.
Im using a HTC sensation and ICS.
Thanks

Stay FAR away from Widgetsoid. It can slow a Galaxy S5 down to a Crawl. Your Dialer will not function, Your phone will not respond. Its trying to load your phone with Ads or something and keeps your CPU busy, whether its a dual core or quad doesn't matter. Developer does not respond and does not seem to care. After uninstalling this App, the phone feels "new" again.
I believe this app is some type of Spyware/Malware combo. Why does it need access to my Contacts? Something very fishy and the developer never responds. It's a great Widget when it works but certain things about it don't seem right. Uninstalled!

[Q] Easy way to toggle 2G/3G?

Any application tested working with the Note to toggle between 2G and 3G ?
thanks
I don't know anything that can do this. I was searching also for something like this.
This feature is not exposed by Android API like it is in the old WinMobile platform. If anyone know the reason for this, please share.
I've seen an app for this on the market but I it seems it will work with the stock ROM
I use switchpro widget, one tap and you're straight in the correct part of settings. Easy enough for me

I'm pretty sure widgetsoid can do it.

What's wrong with the built in operation - it only requires 2 touches...
Press & hold the Power Button for just over 1 second until the power menu appears, then touch the Data Network Mode to switch between 2G & 3G.
Et voila -
Is it really worth sticking yet another app that has access to your internet connection & whatever else, just to save 1 keypress... Jeez.
This one's completely shutting off the data mode. Not just switching it to gsm.
Selling brand new Blackberry Bold 9900!
2G-3G OnOff
Thank you all for your suggestions I was hoping for something automated that would switch to 2G automatically when the phone goes to sleep or something like this.
This looks pretty much like what I want but I don't know if it will work on the note

[Q] No "only 3G" option in ics roms

I tried several ics -roms in my desire s (icecoldsandwich, cm9, miui) and I liked them very much. But in all of these roms it is similar, that there isn´t the "only 3g" option in the network mode menu. There are only "automatic" and "only 2g"
All the gingerbread roms contains the "only 3g" feature.
It is very important for me, because I live in an area where I can get the 3g signal, but the edge signal is often stronger (I think it depends on the weather and the clouds). When I use my phone for tethering I have to switch it in the "only 3g" mode to get a stable and fast internet connection.
Is it possible to get this option (only 3g) in the ics roms as a 3rd option back???
I like the ics roms very much but because of this missing option I can´t take them for daily use.
In the dialler type *#*#4636#*#* then go into Phone information, scroll down and from the dropdown list choose "WCDMA only".
You will probably have to redo this after each reboot though.
Thank you but wouldn´t it be possible to implement this feature into the ics roms as a third option?
We have our inn sense based ROM's
Swyped from my Desire S waiting for Kernel 3, WAKE UP HTC
As far as I remember this the way it is in CM Roms (and stock). Had this behaviour in all Roms since CM6.
The function you need is installed in CM9 Roms via the Notification power widget.
Go to
Settings /
System /
Notification drawer (acrivate "Show power widget") /
Widget buttons /
activate Toggle 2G/3G /
scroll down to "Network modes" /
select the preferred option.
Sadly its not easy to see which it currently activated in the widget, but you can try it on your own. Maybe it helps.
Thank you for the tip.
In fact you can´t see a change in the status bar and I think it doesn´t really work on my phone.
The tip with the dialler type *#*#4636#*#* works very good. But you have to type it in the dialler for each switch between the network modi.
Is it possible to write or create a widget that opens the same menue with one click?
That would make it much easier to swich to the prefered network mode.

Until someone implements this into a custom ROM, there is no way. However you don't necessarily have to type that into the dialler every time, as after the first time you use it you should see the "phone info" app in the recently used list by holding down the home key. So you can get there quicker.
BlindIce v2 has this option in it. It just doesn't have the notification bar toggle, but that isn't really a big deal, as long as you have the main option in Settings.
Thank you both for the latest posts.
The tip with the resent app list works very well and is absolute usefull.
The BlindIce v3 rom looks also very good. I will give it a try on next weekend.
Are there any known bugs with this rom?? There isn't a bug list in the thread.

I'm not sure BlindIce v3 has that option; I never used it. I went from v2 to v4.1, but v4.1 doesn't have the network option.

I used the dialler method for some days now and it is a very good alternative.
In the appearing menue you can also get some more information about your phone (your usage, battery etc.). But be careful if you decide to do some changes in the alignments.
I use the BlindIce v5 now since last Saturday. It is a very nice rom with two launchers and lots of possibilities to design your phone.
But like all the others ics roms it has only the option "only 2g" in the network menu.
So I have to do the dialler method furthermore.
you can try blindICE v5.5... it has continuous improvements and it works good, I recomande it
