Which one is cooler? I've been using XBMod's TF3D2 cooked into my fave ROMs for a month now and I've grown quite accustomed to it.
However, As of the last three days I've been using WM6.5 and the interface is nice. I'm still using TF3D2 but I'm considering moving over to WM6.5 becaue its so much lighter, simpler, and snappier.
However, TF3D2 is more versatile and stylish.
What do you guys think?
hmm I think tf3d2 is definitely very nice but because its not part of the os and it has to run on top of winmo, I'd rather give up a little bit of style and keep things going nice and fast without sacrificing ram and resources. And I kinda like the sliders and other new stuff that 6.5 has to offer although I can't wait for 7
I just realized that WM6.5 doesn't do weather I use the weather tab a lot.
I also use the Youtube/Internet tab too in TF3D2
Im using the default. I like TF3D2 alot, but its landscape mode is buggy
Yeah, thats true. I think I'm going to turn to default WM6.5 for a while after all.
i made the leap and flashed my Fuze for the first time and w/ Da_G's base WM 6.5 rom. i like the new 6.5 today/home interface. i also wouldn't be surprised if icons get added to the text on the home page once the final version is released. while TF3D has a lot of nice features, it's ultimately eye candy. i think the 6.5 interface consolidates things nicely on one screen and is finger-friendly enough. when i was using the stock rom, i was actually using PointUI's Home2 instead of TF3D as that just used too many resources and I really only used maybe 3 tabs.
*rant/aside*
i think microsoft needs to bring WM to a level where the core functionality of the device, foremost it's phone/communicating functions, is solid and can stand on its own without these user-made shells/enhancements. honestly, i think this is where the iphone succeeds--it's core functionality is done very well and for probably 90+% of the market, it does what users need it to do w/o any hassles. on the other hand, w/ WM more often than not, one is always trying to tweak the device as the UI and/or out-of-box experience isn't always pleasant. as for tweaking, frankly it gets tiring and frustrating--i've got other things in my life to do and would much rather be able to have a device that's useable right out of the box. overlooking its lack of physical keyboard and deficiencies w/ bluetooth (which should be remedied in OS 3.0), if the iphone platform weren't so locked down (have to go through apps store for everything and compulsory internet plans), i probably would have gone that route and am still contemplating it as my next phone.
^I don't think you get the value of the M$ business model.
Mac for iPhone is just like Mac for their home computers; its designed the way that the OEM wants it, and since they are the OEM, thats that.
WinMo is designed to appeal to a much much larger range of distributors. Its designed vanilla to keep costs low so that the resellers can tweak it however they want and make their own product out of it. People are happy to use the product as it is. Its mostly just the geeks that get annoyed with it, but all the T-Mobile Wing users out there don't complain, despite the phone running like a smelly piece of ass. Why? Because its cheap and, in the end, gets the job done.
You'll never catch a business mass ordering iPhones for their field workers because that's not what they are for. iPhones are entertainment devices. WinMo phones are work devices.
Its actually very intelligent. Sure, the OS isn't as tight as it could be, but they can get away with it because its such an effective model. Its just how business works.
6.5 does do weather. you install titanium weather. i like tf3d better. its flashier which is always a wow factor and i think alot more development went into it. chome is good but it does feel like a competitor. an iphone user wouldnt be impressed with chome. its up to you what you want to use. the brilliance of windows mobile is you can have it look and do whatever the hell you want.
So I'm back to Wm6.1. Didn't like the random bugs in Wm6.5and there was nothing special about it anyway.

You just did exactly what I was going to suggest you do...
I HIGHLY suggest you try out EnergyROM 2.0 series... IMHO it's the best 6.1-TF3d2 ROM out there: It's fast and furious, no joke.
Rock on.
Is it CDMA-compatible?
I don't think a fair comparison can be made between 2 leaked beta interfaces that may never be officially released for our device. TF3D2 does come off more polished because it's a whole lot closer to release. It will be interesting to see what HTC brings to 6.5. I can't imagine that they won't bring some part of TF3D interface along to maintain their own branding. It's inevitable that everyone here who doesn't jump to another phone will be running 6.5 eventually, whether it's officially released for the tp or not. I'm also interested in what effect the Palm Pre's interface will have on WM devices. I haven't used a Pre, but I have used TealOS on my wifes 755P and it points the way to a superior interface for a multitasking environment. Task managment is not something WM has ever done well and neither 6.5 or TF3D seems to improve that much at all.
Hi i recenlty Sold my Iphone 3G to try a WM phone , and got the Touch HD ( since i'm a big fan of big screen s )
but after trying different Roms , i realized that the device is rather Slow ...
wanted to know if the TouchPro2 Performed faster and if anyone suggests that i should change to the Pro2 ? ( but i read in the spec of both of the Phone that their CPU and RAM are the same )
Thx in advance
yeah they are spec'd the same i believe. I found that after I ran the right ROM on my HD it felt like a completely different phone. If anything hold out for the Leo...its packing snapdragon(1GHz) and a bunch of HTC goodness.
So both TouchPro2 and Touch HD perform @ the same speed ?
528MHz
they both are running at about the same speed just optimized differently...you can find a bunch of Topaz and Rhodium styled ROM's out there
TP is a great device!
if you can change to the tp2 without it costing much i would do that because of the keyboard (I have touch hd), you will go down a bit on screen size whichw ill be a shame and I dont think tp2 has a 3.5 mm jack out which is just stupid but anyway yeah I would try the tp2 for the keyboard.
for speed I would first try out the topaz rom I havent found another rom that seems so speedy 100s of times better than stock. Having a speedy rom really makes you appreciate your phone a lot more.
u mean i can flash any topaz rom to the Blackstone and i'll have a more speedy phone ?
sorry i didnt mean topaz i ment topix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460640
its wm6.1 but its just great
IMHO, i dont think the tp 2 will perform any better than the HD. Of course the keyboard maybe useful, but the HD is thinner and sexier
If you can hold out for the Leo (i want one now!!!) but who knows when it will be released........
As for HD roms, obviously the newer roms (6.5 either 2.1 or 2.5) are beta, due to not being released by MS yet, hence some may have issues/bugs. But dont dispear, they are getting quicker and more stable. Try any newer ones from Dutty, NRGZ or Miri or if you want the very latest try the new build from PDAVIET.
They are all better than the current stock rom, I personally love the 2.5 has a couple of bugs, but we are getting there.
The TP2 is cool, but if U can wait then the Leo will be much cooler

although the leo dosent have a kepboard which is why i wont be getting it, I love my touch hd but ive had enough with a purely touch screen phone. I'm waiting on an android phone that has good processor capacitive screen (large high res) and keyboard or i might just get the nokia n900
maybe they will release a leo pro with a keyboard then I might consider it.
good luck, from what ive seen Android isnt taking off like everyone though it would. None of the carriers seem to keen on supporting it. Tho i did see a topic on PPC where they are dual booting WM phones and running Android on them
The Leo does look pretty sweet, but i agree, it needs a keyboard. It will have a capacitive touchscreen, and 3.5mm jack tho (along with the snapdragon processor) Just add a keyboard and we have ourselves a dam near perfect device. So long as its configured/optimized properly.
It kinda makes me sad, that they announced this after i got my TP2, but its bound to happen. As soon as they release the Leo (whenever that will be) couple months after, a new, better device will be announced. Thats the tech world for ya.
As for the Touch Pro 2, yea ive noticed it does lag sometimes. Tho i haven't installed any custom roms either, which may likely help it (to date, i don't know of any roms specifically for it). Im also a bit worried about bricking this thing while trying.

it's way too early to say they haven't taken off. The problem so far is that a good android device hasn't been released yet. The experia x3 looks nice similar specs to leo but a much better camera, still no keyboard though .
I have a Touch Pro. It's great.
If I was buying now, i'd buy a TP2.
Capacitive screen = DO NOT WANT (give me a stylus or give me death!)
If you're not into trying custom roms I found that even some of the tweaks or Registry Hacks would speed up the phone a bit. Personally I didn't like the Touch Flow and turned it all off in favor of just the plain WinMo look (modded a bit of course). Additionally I turned off the HTC Dialer Skin and used the WinMo dialer that was running on avg about 8m less in memory and was just as functional (minus the reject call w/ txt functionality).
Out of the box my phone had program memory usage up in 38-43% range. Now it's typically 21-28% and running much faster in my opinion.
Thanks everyone for ur time and answer.
I played around with the Omnia II for Verizon last night, not a bad experience. I wish that HTC would put as much in to their multimedia capabilites as Samsung does!!
The video plays like crap on my TP2, but in all honesty I actually preferred the image quality of the video on my TP2 vs the AMOLED display of the Omnia II (un-biased - seriously). Based on this video and a side by side comparisons I did with a video I converted specifically for the TP2.
I guess that just goes to show how nice the TP2 display really is, now if we can just get some decent multimedia playback capabilities (come on HTC!).
SAMSUNG AMOLED DEMO. Enjoy and share your comments if you've seen the displays side by side.
Cyph
I've side-by-side compared both screens, but not with the same video. And I didn't think it was even close - Omina II by a country mile.
Not that the TP2 screen was anything to sneeze at. It's pretty damned nice, too. Beautiful, in fact.
We live in interesting times, with choices like this for a phone!
Now, thanks to Wozzer, we have a new kitchen and some ROMs getting started. So a lot of things should start getting even better with this phone.

Is there a pre-made kitchen that he is sharing like some of the other cooks do or are you just speaking in general terms.
The one thing that I like about my TP2 is that you can download kitchens that are already set up and make you own roms, like what caulkulin and some of the other cooks have
done at ppcgeeks.com
He made the kitchen and released it to anyone who wants it. He is still working on the automatic XIP and SYS porting part, but basically it is a fully functional kitchen. Pop over to Modaco and check it out.

Thanks Omega, I will be checking it out tonight.
I just picked up a LG IQ (Monaco) from Telus, but I am not sure what to do....I posted a similar list of questions over on ppcgeeks, but then relized that the LG IQ is sort of a GSM phone (Telus seems to be migrating to a GSM G3+ system from thier CDMA system) and thier might be more interest over here.
I did have a Rogers GSM Apache prior to my Touch Pro, so I was watching this sight quite a bit years ago.
I have just come from a Touch Pro, so the LG IQ is a smokingly fast device, both from a responsiveness, and web surfing point of view. The 1 GHz realy DOES make a difference!!!
But that is my problem...
For what it does, its great, but the interface is far behind the latest Sence builds ( I have mostly used Energy CDMA ROM's on my Touch Pro - thanks NRG!!).
So I have a phone that does stuff FAST, but I miss all the bells and whistles of the new HTC software.
1. What to you guys think..should I keep the device, or go to a Touch Pro2, a known but much more limited hardware platform?
2. Do you think there will be enough interest to open it up and start building kitchens/ROMs?
3. Should I just live with it and put Spb shell or something on it?
Sadly the TP2 or the Omnia (1) really are the only WM options available directly from telus right now, and I am quite a committed WM user (I started with the original CE PDA's)
Ready to hear all thoughts.
If there is interest I will post a miny review in a couple of days...are you interested?
keep your 1G phone! everybody say window mobile is sluggish, maybe on 528mzh cpu, but on snapdragon 1G i dont feel any slowness, it quick! and load/render web pages really quick too! if the phone is hot/popular, people will make custom rom for it!
i love my Acer neotouch with 1G cpu, it' so fast!
i tihnk u should keep it. i would love to hv the lg expo as my 2nd phone. mostly because of the keyboard.
right now im on acer neotouch which also has the 1ghz snappydragon and it feels really snappy compared to my old wm phone (X1).
however it also lacks a custom interface likes htc's sense but i hv installed PointUI on my acer just to cover up some of the default windows stuff. maybe u can try that.
i think there will be enough interest in the lg expo that some smart ppl will start developing custom roms for it.
just like my acer neotouch. i was surprised a couple of members here hv cooked custom roms with htc sense for it. though i havent tried them out myself. maybe in time.

1) No, the Touch PRo hasn't been out that long either. There will be plenty of goodies for the LG soon enough once it gets a bit more market penetration. I myself have the phone on order but won't be getting it until next week or later (hoping it arrives before christmas x (>.<) x [fingers crossed]). Just give it some time.
2)Most assuredly! The eXpo has quite the winning combo of hardware features. I'm most excited about the touch sensor, no more trackball nightmares! Nevermind the cool stuff that can be done with the projector.
3)I think you just need to be patient. You are on the bleeding edge of tech, it's going to take the community a little while to catch up esp considering the holiday season. All these wonderful programmers and ROM chefs have families too.
dude r u serious !!!
offcourse keep the lg iq ...
sooner or later there will be a port ..
wait until att release it...
2c
Keep the IQ and please do a rom dump of it quickly too! PM me and I can help you if you need. Thanks!
u might not get custom roms unless spocky12 plans to cook one.
either way, the snapdragon makes up for the sluggish WM.
u'll still be able to install apps made by the wonderful people here at xda.
i say keep the phone!
Once you have snapdragon, why go back to anything with less cpu...Keep it!

I'm actually waiting on mine too. I was told I should get it on Tuesday. I've read everything I can on the eXpo and that was what made me choose that over the Tilt2 (TP2). If anything just for the 1ghz processor. I'm using a Tilt right now with a sakajati hyperdragonIV Mega rom and it runs ...ok I guess. I'm running SPB mobile shell on top instead of manilla and it's running a lot faster. If the S-Class interface isn't to my liking (which I'm sure it will be) I'll probably just install the SPB mobile shell if I can. I'm sure it would look pretty sweet on the higher res screen.
Keep the Monaco. Like others have said before me, it's a great phone and more "goodies" will come out in (hopefully) not too long. It's so new here in the states that I can't even find accessories specifically for it. Not even a case. Hell I can't even find where I can buy the projector. I'd get that now if I could. lol (Cubicle movies at work lol )

Totally Jealous. I bought mine from amazon full price, they say I won't get it until at least the 23. Just ditched my G1, Android is crap IMHO. This will be my first WinMo phone and I'm looking forward to it. I'm new to this flashing thing but it looks like a lot of fun, I've allways held off getting a smart phone until the browsers improved and they certainly have come a long way recently. Looking forward to winmo7 and IE9.
Did this ROM get dumped yet?
I was going to go to the store and dump one of the phone's roms from there for MightyMike and Juggalo_X at PPCGeeks. If this guy is doing it then I'm sure Astain will pass it on to those two.
Trust me don't go back to a sluggish msm72xxx cause your going to regret it, just be patient rom cooking will come, probably in the coming months, so just keep it and try installing htc cabs on it.
If you really miss touchflo, look for throttlelauncher with a skin, its free and does the same thing, and is more customizable. Of course, the touchflo tweaks will not work for it

thanks for the tip...but as time goes on I am getting to like the S-class UI better and better!
This is a phone that was hard to like at first, but grows on you FAST!
I will jump in there and say I will be working for custom roms as soon as I get mine so damn I cant wait to get it... Hows the rom dump coming?
setimpson got some errors when he tried to dump it.
it may not function the same way as the htc phones.

Mine is shipping out tomarrow! Can't wait! Should be getting it Monday.
hey folks! tomorrow (or hopefully tonight since i'm impatient) i'm finally getting my Tilt 2!!! yay! been waiting a while for this one! i've stuck with my Tilt waiting for the Tilt 2 for a while (no money), but i'm finally getting it! does anyone know if it comes with WM 6.5 or WM 6.5.x?
also, it comes loaded with touchflo already, but i haven't gotten my hands on one yet other than the store model, which isn't even the real phone. anyone know if the touchflo it comes loaded with has weather on the home screen? it doesn't appear to on the box, but i have no clue how close the pic on the box is to how it actually looks out of the box.
and last, but not least, any suggestions for must-have apps or tweaks? i'm no slouch. i've modded the ever-living stuff out of my Tilt. touchflo with custom icons and tabs, all sorts of software, Shifu ROM, etc, etc. just not sure if all this stuff is going to work on my Tilt 2. i assume that depends on the WM version.
i read yesterday that it has dual speakers now and that to activate the speakerphone, you just flip the phone over. does that mean i can play the driving games (and others) that you tilt the phone to steer? i don't bother with solitaire or bubbles on my phone. too boring. but a driving game might be worth having on there! well, time to start ROM hunting so i'll be prepared as soon as i get it. thanks in advance for any answers you might be able to provide me.
Waiting impatiently,
Chris
AT&T's HTC Tilt 2 comes with 6.5, and so far, no indication of an update to anything more recent (at least not officially).
The stock ROM's clock on the home screen also does not display weather at all.
As for ROMs, you may want to look at the Rhodium/Tilt2 forums for something that suits your needs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=490
The phone does have an accelerometer, so it can detect tilt and motion, and if the game supports that fucntion, can be controller with it.
