I'm looking at getting either the HTC Diamond or the HD (will be my first HTC device .
If I total up the cost of the line rental (over 18 months) and then the extra cost of the phone there is a minimum difference of £80 (£25 month line rental on Orange for both phones) between getting the Diamond & HD model.
I could go for a £20 a month contract as this will cover my call time and txts are unlimited but then the price difference in total jumps up with a difference of £150 over the 18 months, between the two.
So, either way, what I would like to know is in all your expert opinions is the extra cost worth it for the HD model?
As yet I haven't seen either phone in the flesh, so to speak, but hope to get into town on Saturday to take a look.
Oh and finally does anyone use any of these places on line where you get refunds/redemption during the course of your contract making the overall 18 month costs cheaper, or are these a scam?
Any advice much appreciated

Welcome
Well, depends a lot on what you want to have on the device, if you surf the web and watch videos a lot definetly HD, if you only need a phone with nice apps go for Diamond.
Any way, READ here: http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdachooser
And once you have chosen your model go to the WIKI
Good luck

Thanks for the reply.
What is WIKI?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki
on the top menu bar it say XDA-WIKI
which one you want also very much depend on what size device you want
HD all the way. It is basically the same thing as the diamond except with a much larger screen.

Surely this can't be right.
Just checked with Smart Mobile Gadgets, and HTC Diamond are selling at $899.94. Compare to Sony Experia X1, which is selling for $979.94. I am not an iPhone person, but WOW at those price, I may be forced to buy the 3G iPhone instead. Lets hope the price will be lower than what they have there.
Hahahahahaha! That's way too much money for this phone, HTC will sell only a few.
it'll probably drop to $800 or less quite soon after (£400)
it's 'cheaper' with a contracy usually though, free or very cheap (>£100) with contacts <£35/month, that also includes all your calls/texts/internet so it can be quite good.
if you think about it, that has always been the price for the high end phones. remember the Nokia 8890 back in the days? it was about the same price as well.
Yeah, it's far too much for a phone with 4GB storage only and without a card slot.
These are pre-release prices so they are obviously high. When these phones come to carriers, that's when the prices will come down significantly and plus they won't be released in the U.S till the end of the year so that will also give some time to reduce prices.
PLus they are unlocked, Locked devcices are usaully cheaper by hundreds of dollars and unlocking is no big deal.
HTC want us to pay >$900 for Microsoft for using Google youtube and Opera browser?
NO WAY!
I think I disagree.
Keep in mind that it will be available in Europe first so...
900$ is about 600 euros, which seems reasonable for a new WM device with VGA screen + GPS...
Moreover, the old HTC Touch is still sold for about 420 euros..
After checking out the iPhone, it does make sense that the Diamond is way too expensive. In any case, AT&T only carries the iPhone. For now, I am happy to use my 8525 and 3125.
Well I paid 915 US$ last year for a TyTN II with shipping included, so this prices are high but not overpriced.
I like the Diamong but for now I think that I'll wait for Windows 7.

THAT IS INSANE!
I know the mogul is a tad bit under the specs of the tilt, but i paid 500 about a month before its official release. I cant really see the diamond going for more than 600 usd, especially if it want to compete with the iphone (which IMO, is better)
I really hope the raphael is around the same or less.
let's say you have 900$. what are you going to buy? sony or htc?
Stop yer fussin. Thats only the prices they're charging because the phones aren't even out yet. When they come out they'll probably be impossible to find too, but hopefully Sprint lets me upgrade at a discount with a new contract or something.
Yeah, they'll come down after they release. At least I hope they do! My wife and I are planning on getting one of each next year (I like the X1, she likes the Diamond).
If they stay almost a grand a pop we'll be passing...too rich for my blood.
I only paid $120 for my Mogul... I won't pay $900 for a phone.

$120! Where did you pull that off, ebay?
I got my Hermes (two of them, 8525's) for $199 each from AT&T themselves. No contract extension, nothing. I just called up one day and told them what I wanted, and they gave it to me somehow. I think it's because the Tilt was like two months away so maybe they were trying to clear 'em out.
$399 for two 8525's was a deal, I thought. But no way I'm going to pay even five hundred for one phone. That really is a bit high...and 900+ is just out of the question, as far as I'm concerned.

Exactly. I got my Wing for $326 off eBay. $900 is not worth a phone especially when it's going to be like $300 in the next 6 months.
Just checked pricing here too and it's £480 unlocked without a contract and £200 for T-mobile flext 25 which is what I'm on. That's quite a bit more than I'm usually willing to pay - I haven't paid more than £60 for a phone on contract. As others have said though, the price will come down when it's been on the market a few months, plus we'll know all it's little bugs by then
I couldn't wait for a new phone though as I've just bricked one, so I've ordered a LG KS20 unlocked without contract (managed to brick my phone 4 months before contract is up).
Looks like I'm going to have to pay myself out of my T-mobile contract and go vodafone.
I see on their website that they are throwing in a bluetooth headset + in car holder. Am I likely to be able to get anything else if I phone up or go to Vodafone shop such as in car charger etc ?
Only paying £30 for the Flext35 with web and walk and looks like it'll be around £38 for the Vodafone deal with free phone.
Cheers,
Andy
Hi Andy, Make sure you sign up with quidco.com first. Clear all your cookies from your browser and them go through them. Should be able to make 90 or 100 quid from signing up.
Any reasons to not go Vodafone?
I've been waiting for T-Mobile to bring out the Touch Pro for what seems like so long I've nearly had enough!
Even though I'm on a good deal with T-Mobile, might go Vodafone with this.....................
Anyone got any ideas why I shouldn't??
Charging over 500mb data a month??
Any other downsides??
I think coverage is better than T-Mobile in Scotland?
JamieMag: Legend, hadn't even thought of that. £90 quid pays for almost half of buying out my T-Mobile Contract, top work fella!
/Edit: Just had a look at the T+C's and they don't cover business purchases of which the Touch Pro is one. Any ideas on how to get round this issue?
/Edit2: Should really read more closely, according to Quidco, a business purchase is worth £100!!! http://www.quidco.com/vodafone-business/ Awesome.
Roblpm: I've not found any downsides with vodafone. Of every network I've come across they have the best coverage down south / in London. Perhaps this will encourage T-mobile to get their testing expedited or treat customers better.
One further thing, if I want to sign up online for this phone online with Quidco cashback you have to go to via the business site. Is this ok?
Voda is terrible. Coverage around here (Nr Manchester) is awful. Flat out doesn't work around Manchester Oxford Road, didn't work for me when I worked in East-Central London and signal varies a lot in Lytham - even in areas where the website says I should get full 3G.
I only have one other friend stupid enough to be on voda and we joke that we can never get hold of each other because one of us is bound to have either no signal or 'network busy'.
I get 'network busy, try again?' about 1 in 5 calls I make. We joke that 'the other person on voda in Lytham must be trying to make a call'
Can anyone comment on coverage in south east? Everyone at work seems happy with them. Cheers

From London, Maidstone and Ramsgate/Margate I've always had good signal and usually HSDPA. I'm going to upgrade to the Touch Pro tomorrow
Hopefully £35 for 600 minutes, Unlimites Texts and Unlimited Data. The phone better be free too! (I believe it will be!)
I live in the South East and work in London and the reception is brilliant. There are black spots for every network and this seems to get greater the further out into Kent you go, but this is probably level in comparison with other operators.
Never had an issue with Vodafone myself and have had service where others haven't (of course this works in vice versa).
At the end of the day I feel it is just personal preference and I am happy to have been with Vodafone for 10-12 years or so.
Great stuff, thanks for the feedback. As you say all networks will have their strong and weaker areas.
Just wanted to double check that this quidco thing worked for you guys ? and also what deals did you get with voda there are 2 almost identical deals which appeal to me
1= £40 per month for 750 mins 250 texts and unlimited data (phone = £150)
2= £45 per month for 750 mins 250 texts and unlimited data (phone = £ free)
deal 2 is cheaper over the 18 month period
PS all prices are after VAT
To those that have a voda TP, does the phones shell have Vodafone branding on it, or is it a standard HTC phone case (no voda logo)?
I got a vodafone touch pro a week ago.
Has discreet branding at bottom of screen in white font and on back case.
Phone comes with vodafone rom with red/white touchflo interface and only omission from HTC advertised spec is youtube prog is missing! However using coreplayer instead.
I got a better deal by going direct to vodafone than by using Quidco and the standard internet offer. On £35 for 500 mins / 100 texts and unlimited internet. Phone was free. Got 2 months line rental free and a bluetooth headset thrown in. Got this deal by going into vodafone store and then chipping away, threatening to go to O2 etc. They tried to get me on the higher price plan but this is perfectly adequate for me. You can also downgrade/upgrade after 9 months.
My first HTC handset so have only been brave enough to change the icons to the HTC 3d so far. Actually quite like the bright vodafone touchflo so will keep it for now.

I've gone for deal 2 via Quidco. I've used quidco with dell before when buying a laptop and got the cash ok after around 3 weeks. I think the contract has to run for at least 1 month before they credit you though.
Enjoy

Is this a 12 or 18 month plan? I intend calling Vodafone and using this info to get the same deal
I just got a cracking deal from Voda in store, BIG THANKS to thebearhack for the suggestion
***£30*** per month for 750 mins 250 texts and unlimited data (phone = £ free)
+ I got a free nokia headset worth £30 + a free pay as you go sim
The only downside is that it is a 2 year deal, but TBH although my last three contracts have been 18 month I have ended up staying for 2 years as I waited for a new phone to be released so I dont mind.
My deal was 18 month 'business' plan. The fact that I don't have my own business was ignored! I am new to vodafone as far as they are concerned last phones were in my wife's name.

Have you considered selling the wife instead?
VERY low price !?? got mine for £200 inclusive of phone and contract costs over 12 months on the first day it was selling in the UK !
stunno's suggestion makes sense
yeah i agree dump the wife.
no way she can be as useful as the diamond.lol.
proberley be easier to replace as well.
hummmm
my low and your low are too diffrant things i think
just read your sig....diamond and pro...your just greedy
Knock £100 off that price and you might get somewhere.
you won't sell it second hand for that much

I think your right - I'm just greedy - hence the presure I'm under from "her" to sell one and the Pro is much better of the two so sadly its the Diamond thats on its way????
I did research the prices on Ebay first of all and its still as new - nothing other than the phone came out of the box and its had less than 8 hours exposure - Rom's all reset and the phone is as good to go outa the box now as it was when it arrived - will it sell? Who knows - hence the "best offer" option..... but I'd expect you guys to push the price - of course we would but I'm sure someone will want it un-branded, no contract and original HTC.....
I did look for a catagory for listing "wives" on Ebay but apparently its not legal??? Shame???
.
Guys... As seen on my other thread, I have a dilemma of going for current best phone - HTC Desire HD or wait for the Nexus S/other dual core phones.
BUT....
When I search for contract today, I found a HTC Dersire HD deal which is best for me.
Network: Orange
Monthly price: 30
minutes : 500 anytime any network
text: Unlimited (althought I dont text much)
Internet: 500MB (I think 500mb will do because I will use wi-fi at home)
Contract: 24 months
Cash Back: 7months half price, equals to GBP105.
That means, my effective cost is only 25.63 per month and full price for over 24 months is only GBP 615.
It will be around GBP 550 if I choose only 300 minutes but in case I over used the minutes and get charge at high price, so I would rather pay 3 pounds extra to get 200 more minutes.
Now, my big concern. Have anyone got a better deal than this which could persuade me to sign a contract for Desire HD rather than to wait for Nexus S?
Open for any suggestion. Comment are much appreciated. Thanks
Come on.. Posted a week no one give opinion.. Dead site
Hi,
You are asking a purely subjective question, ie someone else's opinion will be different to yours.
Do you want someone else to decide for you? If so, you probably wont get many answers on here.
If you have found a deal your happy with then go for it, if not wait
The reason for opening this thread is to discuss any other better deal than this, and also we can exchange opinion on other thing.. wait go go for the deal and possibly cite the reason behind.
I am looking to replace my HTC Desire with a One S when my contract ends in 3 weeks time. The best deal I can currently find is as follows:
200 min / 3000 sms / 500 MB @ £21.50/month (24 months)
Phone cost £39.99
On O2 network being offered by Phones4U
Anyone know of a better deal around?
Wait a couple of weeks until T-mobile get it and ask them to do a price match (or better it). I just did this with the Xperia S and they beat the current £21.50 O2 deal by nearly £100 (over a 24 month period).

Yeah that is my plan
Have already refused the retention department's current offer. Just waiting for them to start stocking the One S (after April 5 presumably) and I will try again.
Yeah, as always the case, the first offer they make you isnt usually even tempting.
The second person I spoke to said "they were from a slightly different department" and therefore were able to better the original offer...hmmmm, nothing to do with the fact a competing provider had a better deal - oh and of course the customary threat to leave
I like the look of the One S but the screen resolution and 16GB limit on storage is off putting. I have to last the phone for the next two years so need to look ahead. The One X is simply to big (4.7") for me.
Not seeing many reviews on the net for either of the S or X.
What a difference a day makes. All the O2 £21.50 offers have disappeared today...!

There are still a couple of places doing them, although o2 direct is not one of them. Seemed a bit strange as to why they were much cheaper than all other providers. just a one week promotion i guess.
I meant the HTC One S offers, not the Xperia but thanks anyway...
Oh, I must have missed all of the £21.50 offers on the One S...
