[Q] Touch Pro landscape redraw issue? - Touch Pro, Fuze General
Hmm.. I'm the only one who found a weird issue in landscape mode while dragging?
I've recorded a video. Both in landscape and portrait mode. Portrait mode is ok..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8_fbUfVRZg
(see right upper corner)
First I was thinking that's a Opera fault.
I've tried 3 different ROMs, 2 Opera versions.
I've encounter this in all browsers, Google Maps...
... If none replied, I conclude that's just mine .
I've got something similar as in older pocketPCs (I don't know how to call this, diagonal sync bug?!). Comparison with HTC Himalaya scrolling in Internet Explorer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5nK4XcsBjo
(chose "watch in normal quality")
Later edit: it seems that's a general issue?! because I've got 3 more confirmations (1 from a TP user and 2 from diamond users). And nobody talks about it...
Come on.. really nobody feels this redraw issue?
This delay does not appear just on dragging. It appears also on menu popups and it's not limited to that.
See:

You are not alone. I have the same redraw issue. I have already reported it to HTC Support. But they do not answer my requests. I have already issued four service requests, but no answer so far.
I will report it later, still colecting information. More users (on other forum) have this issue. I think they didn't even observed it till I posted those videos.
For example, Samsung Omnia doesn't have this issue. So i guess it's a driver issue..
I have a few issues with this.
1. Opera sometimes takes ages to redraw (showing the white and grey chequered background in between)
2. When it isn't doing this, the page often tears in diagonals
3. If I have MP3's playing on TCPMP, the music jerks or stops completely whilst I scroll in Opera. It's fine again once I stop scrolling though
Also happens on Diamond
You're definitely not alone, I've got the exact same behavior when using Opera in landscape mode.
It has persisted through several different radio, rom, and opera versions. Unfortunately I didn't really notice it before I HardSPL'd and loaded my first rom, so I can't say if the original OEM setup did it as well.
Honestly I'd be more surprised if someone came forward and said that theirs DIDN'T do it.
just picked up my fuze
it does it
Thank you guys for replies!
Just test http://clickgamer.com/download.htm?pvid=15358 (fre trial) and you'll see how smooth are all the stuffs NOT.
Laso, there are games suffering from "music gap" (call of duty, obulis tse... haven't tried so many games). All graphics suffer of lag or bad refresh/redraw.
So, it may be:
- sh*ty crappy qualcomm chipsets
OR
- bad drivers
It seems that history repeats (see htc tytn ii graphics related issue).
What to do?
- Contact HTC.. tell them about this... and if they do not care, then http://www.htcclassaction.org/ should add new devices in the "portofolio".
Lags here, lags there, lags everywhere (gps lag, system lag aka poor performance when playing music, graphics lag, bla bla..)

I think it still breaks down to some video driver problem where it's not respecting the vertical blank interval somehow when redrawing the screen. This means you end up seeing the previous and next, and next and next, picture being drawn at the same time. It happens on the Kaiser too.
i've also noticed the problem. I'm glad you brought up this thread cuz I was starting to get worried. Has any of you gone back to the store and checked if any new ones still do this?
just came back from exchanging my fuze. the new one also has the same problem. looks like it's a universal problem. most likely due to driver. hope this help.
Thank you guys for the feedback. At first I was thinking that I've got a defective unit.. but now it's more clearer to me (& others in the same situation), here we got a general issue. HTC TyTN II has this issue too. Samsung Omnia doesn't have it. I really cannot understand htc after ..
Strange that people in general don't talk/care about this issue. Before buying the TP i've read/watch some reviews and none of the authors said anything about this. They just praise touch pro
I wish that HTc actually work and fix this.. i really whish.. I've send an e-mail - no response yet. You should try too..
I'm using the sprint touch pro and i have this problem too. I did infact notice it, but i just didn't think it was that big of an issue... if its affecting other programs than it is a big problem than.
Foolish of me to think htc got their drivers working on this thing... i also think the video acceleration is terrible
Ok soon after you raised the issue I tested and couldn't reproduce it with my factory (3 - Australia) rom.
As soon as I updated it to RomeOS and used Opera I got the drag issue. I am not sure if its to do with the Opera provided in the RomeOS rom or the rom itself.
Try landscape in other programs. Also try the Samsung Omnia drivers (which do work with TP). I don't have a TP as yet.
I also noticed this little issue. But haven't really looked into it as of yet. Anyone tried converting dvd movies to fit on your fuze and see if it happens ? I am gonna try that.
Wow...I' was going crazy with the same issue!!!
Tryied:
-HardSPL: Olinex 1.37/1.93 and Jocky 1.24
-Radio: .05/.07/.08
-Rom: Panosha 1.9/shimple0.8, Dutty 2/3.1 SwiftBL 7.5, Swtos Vanilla1.0/1.1/1.5/, Wildberry.....
Always the same matter...
I was beginning to think that the real problem is relate to an hardware fault...and finally, today, I've found this thread...so:
NO WAYS TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE?!
I think it's really ugly to see our screen like a church fractal glass...
PS: I've got a Diamond.
No solution yet! .
@intothevoid movies aren't affected by this annoying redraw issue. you got poor results if you try to play movies at full resolution DIVX/XVID...*, but that's another thingy..
*for better results you can try coreplayer 1.2.5 with Qtv and Middle quality (on High it lags). However, even on middle quality, on action scenes, you will get some dropped frames.
@nuke1 tried that. ATI driver too. But that's for D3D, so, useless..
@fawaad this was and is present also on the oficial rom and every ROM I've tried.
Anyohow, from what I've understood, you exclude the chance of an hardware issue...right?
This sounds and looks to me like a simple Sync to VBlank issue (i.e. video is updating at 60 hz and lcd is updating at 59.97 hz, and syncing is not occuring so you see this 'tearing')
If that is the case, it's gonna require a driver update from HTC.. Anyone with a tilt knows how quick HTC is to hand drivers out..
Samsung Omnia doesn't suffer from this because they are accelerating more functions in their 2d drivers. HTC seems to use the equivilant of Windows 95/98/XP/Vista's default VGA video card driver (which if you've ever used it, does not accelerate anything but the most basic functions, and performs similarly)

Slow, always having to soft reset..
Hi all, I am really disappointed with the performance of my Orbit 2. At least once a day, it slows down and eventually grinds to a halt - a problem I never had with the Artemis. In particular he seems to hang when using the RSS Hub program (although I have tried numerous alternatives including News Gator and the SPB Insight). Sometimes accessing the Internet, or even creating an SMS causes the hang. I have read through the tips in the forums here and recently upgraded the ROM to Bepe's 0.66, but still have the issues. Is anyone else suffering from these problems? Any ideas for possible fixes? Tim
Nope. I have over 30 apps installed a couple of today screen plug-ins and the TC runs just fine. Perhaps you were not closing your applications (just minimizing)? Or maybe you needed to use a tool like MemMaid to clean your device? I am using the stock rom.
On the stock ROM and use RSS Hub a lot. Can't say I ever had those problems either.
cant say i have a problem either use quite a bit of software on a regular basis and i dont ever shut mine off or restart unless i want to escape my wife.....
NetFront is the culprit OK following some further research (read "tearing hair out"), I believe I have found the culprit to be NetFront. This otherwise fantastic browser appears to hog CPU at around 99%. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour with NetFront? Its a real shame as its by far the best browser I have found. Opera would be great but doesn't work with the HTC keypad. So next task is to find a decent browser!!

If you continue to use it, just make sure you close (not minimize) it before leaving to go to another app or even your today screen.
Pocket Informant is extremely slow
Hi, One of my few complains on my new Touch Pro device (compared to my previous Tytn II) is the terrible performance of Pocket Informant. Am I the only one who experiences extremely slow UI reactions with this application? To make things a little more objective - by "slow" I mean about 2 seconds when switching to a different day in the month view, about 5 seconds until the appointment edit window opens, 4 seconds to open the categories list from that window etc. The WebIS support were very nice but eventually couldn't help, so I'm wondering if it happens only to me.
I'm afraid this problem is somehow specific to your device. Maybe a problem with the ROM you are using? I also use PI8 and it's actually quite fast. At least as fast as it was on my TyTN2 if not even a bit faster.
It may indeed be my specific ROM, or the 3rd party Hebrew support package that I'm using (installed on the device by the the supplier here in Israel). I was hoping it's a somewhat more generic problem, it had better chances to be fixed that way
maybe not. I have similar problem, not indeed in PI8 (don't use it), but in another programs.
I assume PI tech support suggested this, but get rid of note icons on contacts. It slows it down big time because it has to check every contact for a note. (And I have about 1800.)
I'm working great with PI8 also. I think it's running faster on my ROM too.
Manilla2D Speed Boost
I dunno if this is a ROM isolated thing, (I'm running NYG Pro) but I find that if I leave a video running in the background after selecting it under the "Photos and Videos" tab, regardless of the video duration, it'll give me a boost with anything 2D until I close Album. Manilla 2D and TaskFacade run a lot sexier now. The only thing that seems to kill it is Audio Manager. lol As soon as I run it, it goes back to normal and the only way to get that extra framerate is to restart Album with the same or another video and leave it running again. Sorry if this had been posted before, but is there anyway we might be able to incorporate the, what seems to be, "2D driver" in startup like what taskfacade has to do? Just like a crippled version of Album for the speed? I don't know exactly what's giving it the boost here, but this seems pretty important if it's not isolated to the ROM I'm running.
I just tried this with my Kaiser and it works consistently on a Hyperdragon 3 ROM from November, so it seems to be fairly universal. I don't know how or why this works, but I'd sure like to see someone figure it out and find a way to have it work all the time. Edit: I assume this has something to do with the video drivers that may or may not actually exist, and with the built-in video playback somehow turning on 2D acceleration, but I'm no programmer so I can't really go into detail. The more I play with this, though, the more excited I am to have smooth response in Manila and iContact and things of that sort, and the more I hope someone can find a way to build this into a ROM or make it a standalone program.
confirmed here too, now this is wierd
It's not so weird During early days on UIQ, we also found the phone UI works a lot faster when there's a background Video running / being played .. seems to be the same factor.
Hi all, actually, its nothing to do specifically with M2D ... actually, been noticing that with everything ... say, PointUI Home 2 for example , .. leave your video on paused state, and try playing around the Home ... seems a marvel ... but then, its been there since my UIQ3 days, on my P990i ... graphics performance boost up whilst leaving a video running .... i hope this will trigger some wise minds in here ...
Yeah actually tried this trick with a Gameboy emulator. Works pretty well. Eliminates page tearing so that's pretty cool. Here's to hoping something gets done with this!
Will doing this kill the battery life?
It may affect it slightly since it is still running a program. As far as i can tell there isn't much of a change in the real world though.
From what I have read, attempted to understand, and barely grasp, this likely works because it opens up the 3D and 2D driver sets so that programs that don't have the "call" code built in but support 3D and 2D drivers are able to utilize them then. Not 100%, but it seems like this is where the driver developement is stuck at in general, with finding out how to get all programs to use the drivers all the time even if the drivers are not native. I have very limited knowledge of all of those, though, and half the driver stuff goes over my head, but what I have grasped is that they don't seem to have, to use an analogy, the "phone number" for the drivers, but some programs do and some do not type thing.

You should change the name of this thread to somthing taht will atract more attention liek "possible graphics driver fix!" cause honestly I think you discovered somthing very usefuil if someone made a cut down version of this app and just had a pause short medai clip in the backround this could be a step closer to our driver solution or mabe THE solution and honestly I think this is amazing, and I think if you changed the titl of this thread it would attract A LOT of more atention
Could it be the Q7200 having some sort of speed step running and playing a clip is bringing it up to its default max of 400 MHz...? Which would simply speed up everything but consume more battery... If it really enables drivers to run, that would be simply amazing and some of the smart heads here should take a deeper look into it. Very interesting find!
Maybe its also worth posting in more general forum? not in Kaiser Rom development? maybe try to send a message to someone from the HTCclassaction team?
Hi, isn't this video player actually a separate app that is spawned from manila?
Any handy people out there who could make this happen with a .cab? (install small video player, make it autostart and run an included, very small, video, all while running invincibly/exlusively in the background?)

Shifu v1.1 Seems to speed things up on this rom as well. Does seem more than a placebo effect.
Sorry. I don't know if this is frowned upon on this forum, but I'm bumping this for great justice. move zig lol

Samsung Omnia HD Problem...
Not sure if anyone can help - go easy on me - its my first post!! After swapping and changing my phone from HTC touch HD, Sony Ericsson Xperia, Samsung Innov8, I decided to get a Samsung HD Omnia. I am really pleased with the phone and all the features but have got one niggly problem that is REALLY starting to annoy me. Whenever I download anything from the web, (widgets, orange maps, or anything that would be installed to my phone) I am getting lots of small icons that would be used in the program ive downloaded going into my media album viewer/Media Browser. This is making it an absolute pain in the backside to try and differ between my own photos taken and the stupid icons that it has downloaded. An example is downloading orange Maps - I now have over 200 small icons (arrows, signs, MPH limits) that have fallen into my media browser. Ive looked through all settings and cant see how to turn this off.. I usually come here to find all of my solutions but so far havent seen this problem. . Can any of you clever people assist?!!?
As this is an HTC devices only forum yo won´t get too much atention, however in off topic there is a thread regarding samsung, perhaps there you can get more help. Good luck,
???? wrong post!
[Q] Mango Bugs
Yesterday I updated to Mango on my HTC HD7 and already had a huge dissapointment... First of all I live in Israel and surf in few Hebrew sites. The new IE does not support any of them!!! Even not Google.co.il. The screen just splits in half or the IE goes crazy (I will post a video that demonstrates it later). You can't even zoom in or out. It wasn't like that in NoDo version. The second problem is that the hebrew keyboard I installed previously is not freezes in Marketplace and some other aplications, and i can't write anything. If anyone knows about this faults (especially the first one), and how can I fix them, please let me know. Just check it yourself by entering some hebrew site like, kama.co.il and see for yourself IE go crazy... Thank you.
anyone? can anyone help me?
No problems here pal. I tried both sites in samsung focus and they are working ok. I can zoom, I suggest a clean update from scratch or a hard reset.
Yeah it looks funky on my DVP
both sites act funny. google doesnt load and chops half the page; kama bounces around until it's done loading. I wonder the language/script has anything to do with it?
I'm using Spanish in some languague settings, here is a proof.
Thanks but its really a mess on my HTC HD7..
