I hope this hasn't been asked. I searched but couldn't find anything. Basically, I love MS Live maps for my TP, but it seems like it is not made for VGA screen since the text in the maps are way too small to read now. Google maps is much better on the TP. However, I love Live maps for it's ability for speech recognition and better functionality for the directions. Any ideas as to how to increase the text size in the maps?
thanks in advance for your help!

I just got a Touch Cruise this weekend and love it so far.
But I find that I would really like to get 2 things for it:
1. a better keyboard. I know there is a learning curve, but I am not sold on any of the keyboards that came with the device. I heard there is a freeware keyboard that is much better. Anyone know of it?
2. is there an application like google maps or google mail that you all use to track stocks and see how your portfolios are doing? Something like this would make the device even more useful.
thanks,
Try out this keyboard: It's a little bit bigger than the standard one. I use it and it works great.
pocketcm keyboard
Google Maps can be found here: Google Maps Mobile v2.0.1.17
for the second one you can search for google2go... it's a hotlink collection for the IE. It launches as a normall app, and does include the mobile google finance
PocketCM keyboard is great. a lot of good skins for it too.
For a maps program Windows Live Search Mobile is by far the best. Seriously one of the best apps from Microsoft and it's for free. It includes movie times, gas prices, maps with gps, speech recognition for addresses and business locations. I think it's only available in the US & UK though, so really depends on where you're at.
As for stocks I use Pocket StockCenter. You can setup your portfolio, number of shares for each symbol, amount paid, etc.
or you could try Vitos' Zoomboard which is quite good
While I agree PCM is a great keyboard, I have been using TouchPAL and have been happier.

I just installed PocketCM keyboard but my Polaris continues to use the Old Keyboard. When I select PocketPC keyboard and then options, it says PocketPC keyboard must be the SIP inorder to Configure it.
What is SIP and how do I get the PocketCM keyboard to work?
I've seen that as a bug sometimes, when you hit the small arrow by the keyboard icon and select PocketCM and it gives you that standard keyboard with the really small keys. Try resetting and selecting the pocket CM keyboard. Then you should be able to go into options and modify it.
Also search for SIP changer, there are tons of threads and the file is floating around. Allows you to set the default SIP on startup.
By the way SIP is "soft input panel" or something like that, it's basically the app that pops up that allows you to input characters whether it be the default HTC ones, default Windows ones, or something like PocketCM.

I am using Pathaway GPS5 right now, and it does what I want, but is very clunky and old. Tracking is nearly impossible and just a hassle. Menu layout is poor. But I have yet to find a GPS software that can display coordinates in MGRS format. Im in the Army (US) and I need my GPS to be able to show me MGRS. Pathaway has the ability to display your coordinates in about 20 different formats, which I love. I wanted to know if TomTom, Garmin, or any other newer**** GPS software has this ability. Thanks in advance guys.
I use TomTom7 with TomTom6 maps with my Elfin and it doesn't display in MGRS. What you should be looking at though is a custom solution like Bing/Google maps with a MGRS Overlay.
anybody know of a winmo prog that will display maps that are in .rik format?

There is a progam called 'Pocket Kartex'. You can find more about it on the Swedish Lantmateriet-site. Rik-files are used for Swedish maps. But with GlobalMapper you can transform them to Oziexplorer-maps. This Australian-program is a lot better than Kartex. OziexplorerCE does work on HD2.
thanks! i'll give it a try.
took a look at GlobalMapper but they wanted 300 bucks for it! a little expensive to reformat the maps. but i got pocket kartex and it works good enough. gps functions well and the maps scroll with the gps location centered, it also had some simple tracking and way-point features and that's pretty much all i needed. the prog was free as the maps were what they were selling. stupid expensive, too. lucky for me that i already have a bunch of fairly recent 1:50000 swedish topo maps, perfect for extended hikes/camping.
thanks for the help,
now my hd2 is absolutely perfect!
Hi! I installed Global Navigator 5.6 on my HD2 on stock WM6.5 ROM, and it doesn't download maps - it kust shows my current position on a low-res world map. Zooming in just increases the size of the pixels.
I used an earlier version before and I could download maps. It seems there were lots of complaints on the web that the maker pdafun.net does not answer support queries. I'm still waiting for their reply.
If maps could no longer be downloaded, I propose that we post the imagedata.da and tileinfo.da for pre-downloaded data for different cities for sharing?
i agree with you.. same problem with me for low quality of maps download.
but i found an alternative.. Now i use Garmin. it is best and much better than global navigator.
Try Garmin and use your city maps.. and m sure u'll never use global navigator back..
I know google maps has navigation. but i need offline maps. cant always guarantee a connection where i go.
I was wondering has anyone tried the onboard locations maps? particularly has anyone got the premium features? live traffic and wot not.
I have been using copilot 8 on my hd2 and its pretty rubbish. was hoping for more from locations, i read somewhere that deep inside it has a tom tom connection.
Have a look here :
sygic

or here

or here

Hope its help dude.
I like the look of that sygic, but have to admit am curious about locations. I wonder how deeply integrated it is, and if the traffic system is any good.
Does anyone know if the premium traffic is connected to the tomtom HD traffic system? According to the spiel from tomtom it tracks user traffic flow in real time and adjusting routes accordingly.

I can't comment much on this but one thing I can say is that a nice bit of integration according to the Sense tour on the HTC website is integrating the call screen with the Nav system so that calls don't interrupt your gps functionality while driving.
I saw that and liked it. Just wondered if anyone had tried it indepth.
I try nearly all on my WM6.5 but as far as i know tomtom isn't for android platform. for others gps soft, Sygic and Ndrive are quite nice, but by far I prefer IGO and if u have RDS u got in real time all informations ...... etc etc.
Personnally I havent yet the HTC sensation, waiting to be totally bootloaders unlock.
Its up to U, to see whats your real need and Google is your friends to have all informations needed.
Hmm... but which Navis are really working for the Sensation Display?
As far as I've ready, just the Copilot and anotherone, not the iGo?

Can't you pay for Locations on a monthly basis? For a pretty small fee you can try it out for a month and see if it suits your needs. That's what I plan to do once I get my hands on the phone.
I read that too. Anyone using any others with any measure of success?
last sygic version does not (yet) work on sensation. It automatically closes. Hoping for a fix soon.
One of the PC Mags (UK), PC Pro from memory, has just done a sat nav comparison. For a separate system go for TomTom (their conclusion) but for a phone-based one go for CoPilot Live 8.
They're also about to release CoPilot Live 9 and, from the brief review I've seen it fixes a lot of the shortcomings of 8.
Dave - not used either, just going from what I've read before any flames start ...

No flaming, just reporting my experience. Just used CoPilot 8 on a recent trip, and the map was bad. Directed me to turn onto a bridge when there was no road to do this. I've found other map errors in my local area for road segments that have been in place for years. Of course, any GPS can have map errors, but relying on updates a couple of times a year at most, rather than online, increases the likelihood. Hopefully if and when Google implements maps stored on the phone updates will be available anytime.
yeah, but this here is about the sensation...
I've had alot of different navigations on my phones and pocket pcs. but right now, it seems just the copilot is working well on the sensation (which btw, I hate, its too bubble-gummy for me, looks like driving through disney world). the iGo and Navigon don't work to my knowledge for example (so far, I found iGo the best, Tomtom and Navigon tied).
but the OP just wants to know: who uses the built-in Nav with premium service, and how good is it.
