Hi,
Things that improve battery life:
- Drain the battery COMPLETELY until the phones shuts off and recharge the battery with the phone turned off. Do this 3 times. Improves battery life extremely.
- Disable repplog.exe in the notification queue with the comment "system time changed" using memmaid or similar tool (don't do this when you sync with an Exchange server OTA)
- Use advance config and enable all the options under "energy"
These are the 3 things I found in the forum that really work for me

BeeJive IM is a seriously intensive IM product that drains my battery very very quickly. I would suggest using Palringo. www.palringo.com It's not as pretty as BeeJive but your battery life with signifigantly improve.
I would also try using different radio's. Radios can help you improve battery life / signal strenth, etc. Test out all of the Raphael radios and available and see which ones works best for you.

I have tested the theory with draining the battery 3 times to it's complete and utter demise before charging. I found that doing it once worked best for me. Since Lithium Ion batteries do not have memory such as Nickel Metal Hydrate. I have found however that if my battery is acting funny to fully let it die then charge it up completely that it will return to it's normal self.
I have done a lot reseach on Lithium Ion batteries and found it's best to keep your device charged as much as it can and not let me battery get below 30% or 20% at the most before re-charging it. When I do this I get the best battery life as possible and my battery seems to last a lot longer in regards to the longevity of the battery as a whole.

ROM with best battery life???? Help me plzzzzz

Hello friends ,
It have been 2 weeks since i got my universal (o2 xda exec) , I have tried most of the WM6 roms here , but most of them dont give good battery life..
Anybody know which is the best ROM with Best battery life? or any tips how to improve the battery life?
I usually read books and rarely hear music and i have 4 apps installed and i find the battery drain fast within 3.5hours. For this reason i turned off the phone and wifi. My uni is a new one , i dont want to have the charger all the time with myself.. I go places , do please help me..
Thanks in advance
battery life is awfull and unpredictable
I have the same problem. I use the same crossbow 2.12.08 version
with update radio ( from 1.15 ) to 1.18
I have a larger battery 3200 mAh, but th ebattery life is never more than one day. Though the battery is brandnew...
Worse is that when charging sometimes it shows 100% but most of the time this drops within a few minutes ( 2-4 ) to 97%
Then after 1-2 hours it is on 60% while usage is minimal. no WLAN, no BT
Also sometimes for some reason the battery is very warm ( during loading ).
When disconnected it turns out the universal is almost empty. Tried to disconnect the battery and leave it outside for 5 minutes then back in. but nithing seems to really improve. Also without memory card the results are more or less the same. Also always I close the applications fully.
Maybe someone can tell me what are the possible reasons...? Is is the software. Does it not see the actual charge correctly? Or is there a "hidden"battery user. Read the article about leds and all that, but this is way out of that league.
Rgds
I think that your battery is no good. My battery is 2 years old, it's the original battery 1650mAh and the battery life is 2.5 hours with WiFi enabled (internet navigation via WiFi)
If you want your battery to last longer, check the wiki:

Before blaming ROMs check the device with another battery. I had the same problem too, checked several ROMs and even downgraded to WM5 and at the end it appeared that my battery simply dies, while my other battery showed far better lifetime.
You are definitely having a battery issue rather than ROM. I am using 2.1.2.08 also and can get 3 days of normal mixed use from my original 1620mah battery.
Why not try "resetting" the battery, as discussed in previous forums, I for one can testify to it's success.

[Q] How can you make the battery last longer??

Is there a tweak out there that stops the stupid battery from guzzling? Im tired of charing it constantly and I swear it takes hours and hours to charge it back to full power. The thing cant last longer than a day without loosing power I cant stand it. Whats making it use all that power? I thought maybe if I switch wireless it would help but I didnt notice a difference.
I can get 2 days out of my battery.
I let it drain to 1% and then stick it on charge over night. When i get up the battery will be at 100% and then 30 minutes later down to 90% but it settles down after that.
I do not have wifi and bluetooth on all the time, just when I need to.

I don't understand people telling battery lost for 2 days..... even if we keep phone idle it will lose power in 24 hrs i believe....try like this try to use ROM with out manila & with manila once you will know the difference other than that there is some tips to save battery in Energy ROM thread in 3 rd 0r 4th post ..
4 days normal usage.
Manila2, GSM
15 minutes call, 6~10 text message, sync exchange, 30 minute ebook reading per day
If I build rom myself from the kitchen. It usually runs for 2-3 days.
However, in most cases when I try decent cooked ROM, for example, Energy - battery drains in about 5 hours. That's been the case with other cooked roms as well.
I suspect that some popular configuration change done by cooks causes battery to drain in certain environments. Would be nice to find out which change is that.
Processes and services often place a strain on the life of the battery; add to the mix a buggy service or application that further shortens battery life and one has an unusable device.
Another habit that can shorten Li-ON battery life is full discharges - near 0%. One of the members put out a thread a while back on research he/she had done on batteries - worth the read if you haven't already.
Cheers,

I just had the same experience, cooked for the first time and my battery was better than it has ever been!
Since then I have flashed to RRE 21731 6.3 and it seems my battery has stayed the same (Brilliant, 2 Days no problem).
The only thing ive done differently is I have used the new UK Voda rom as my Stock Rom that i flash before flashing custom, and i believe this may have something to do with it...What, I don't Know.
I also believe changing the Radio After a flash can affect battery life, I always try to flash a new radio before a Custom rom.
I have wondered for some time wether the European Touch Pro is slightly different to the US Fuze in its hardware, Since most Cooked Roms are configured for the Fuze maybe that is what it is?
maybe we will find out..One Day
turn off 3G and you will get much better battery.
Get a Blackberry Bold. My phone has been on for 2 days, sent around 150 texts, got in 150, I'm at 85%

That will ****-up your battery, you should never let it drain to 1%, just charge it when you have the time, preferably before it drains to about 20%.
I guess it all depends on the eye of the beholder, I come from the Diamond part of XDA, and we are lucky to get 24 hours on the Diam.
I was happpyyyyy with my new TP battery life -compared to Diam that is-
But ya, turning of 3g and being picky about processes and back light helps.
Greets to all.
Search the development and Hacking thread for Windows Long Life/save your gonads. Chainfire is developing a neat application to automatically switch from 3G when not needed. I tried an early version and it seemed to significantly increase my battery life.
Check my sig....it tells you how to deal with Li-ion batteries...
battery stuff on my site
Check out chapter 17. I cover this pretty thoroughly.

An app that may help is Advanced Task manager, it has a widget to end all running processes/tasks which i tap before putting mine to sleep about 1000+ times a day it seems. go in and exclude ones you may want to exclude always and then its as simple as 1 click. as everyone else said, no gps,wifi,3g when not 100% necessary. also, get widget "toggle disply" from rounded labs and keep your screen completely dim (not like you can't see it...), being able to make it bright when you step outdoors. Also, toggle backlight app for root users keeps the pesky keyboard backlight off when you don't want it on (suggest making keyboard shortcut for quick toggle). last but not least because i'm sure theres plenty more, but yesterday i switched to cyanogen's newest stable ROM and it seems to be much more effective than any other i have tried in the means of saving battery life. had wifi on after a 98% charge for about an hour and a half (30mn usage) and it only went down to 91%... wow. "and that's all, i have to say, about tha-aat"- Forrest Gump
Firstly I don't think this is the right sub-forum for this question since it's not a specific ROM question.
Secondly, try nueDynamicClock, if you use the right settings, you'll extend your batt life by at least 1/2 a day if not more.

It's really very simple. Flash an awesome rom, and the battery burns and burns. Flash a rom you hate, and the battery lasts forever. Don't over-think it.
hi guys.
i was eager to start up this discussion and am glad to find it here itself.
even am really finiky about battery.
tried alot of thing but cudnt find any spcl tweaks.
though i came across some registries from advanced config and other wise also but they seem to be more worse.
;IMPROVE BATTERY PERFORMANCE
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
when i use these tweaks the power consumption of my rom reached to 4.112 volts(as per power detect) which otherwise without these tweaks is 3.992 at startup.
more power consumption i guess means less battery i guess.
and even if its not still these tweaks as per my usage show bad results.
why so?
and arnt there spcl application which can detect the packages which might consume more battery, as i have over 50 packages in my rom and it'll hell to check which eats more.
Some tweaks I do
I have also found for me that disabling these things in advanced config also helps.
Performances
> File System cache: Disabled
> File System filter cache: Disabled
> Glyph Cache: 32kb (advised) I'm not sure if disabling this one is a good idea. I like having a little bit of glyph cache on my device.
Light senor
> Light sensor polling: Disabled.
*Note: If you want to still have light sensor on (this means the auto backlight feature) I would set the:
> Light sensor polling interval: 2000. This will make it poll every 2 seconds instead of every .2 seconds. I would even try setting it to 5000.
The backlight will make a huge difference on how long you battery will last. The brighter it is the more the battery needs to light up that screen. If you turn off the polling all together it will make the battery last longer.
Also running fancy UI apps will also deplete the battery more. Just common sense really as another poster alluded to earlier. The more things you have running and sucking up memory the more battery it will consume. If you disable TF3D or other apps such as this you will get your battery to last longer. Given that these devices are meant to have these types of programs on them you will have to weigh the options of how much you really want to "tone down" your devices to get the most out of your battery.
Also different radios will cause you battery to last longer. I suggest to everybody that they try different radios to see which ones last longer. Also people who live on the edge of 3G and EDGE area will cause the battery to drain faster as it constantly switches in and out of 3G coverage.
WMLongLife is a great app if you don't need 3G while you phone is just sitting in you pocket. It works great for me and when I want to use 3G I simply launch opera and the program will automatically enable 3G once again.
There are many things that you can do to improve your battery life. I encourage everybody to find what is best for them given what they use there device for and try and test things out. The best way to tell which works best for you is to simply try it out for yourself.
**NOTE** I also set all ROMs that I flash with a page pool of 0. I don't know if this has any real effect on battery life but it does seem to make my battery last a little bit longer. Not sure if this is a placebo affect though.

Battery drain in standby issue?

Hi all,
My 6 days old Sensation (Vodafone contract UK) discharge a huge amount during Standby (200-350mA). I got the number via Battery Widget Pro 1.65. For the first few days I did deplete the battery fully before charging it to full. Today I have factory reset it to the original condition at around 4pm with 58% battery full. Now at 9pm, it is only 18%. During this time, I spent about 1 hour with the phone, the rest is standby. I set the widget to monitor with 1 minute interval and when looking at the log file, it can be seen that the phone consumed from 200-400mA during the standby time. Coming from HD2 with Android modded 3-8mA standby consumption, this is a huge huge dissapoinment!
Is this because of my battery or is this my phone? Should I ask for a replacement? What about you, did you see similar pattern?
Thanks,
Duong

Ditto!! So annoyed since I too am coming from HD2 where HyperDroid's consumption had dropped to a flat 2mA in standby. This is insane for a native android device. Not to mention the heating while playing games and most importantly, the front facing camera producing upside down image during fring video chats.. grrr!
Dunno what the cause OR solution is (besides switching over to a custom rom if and when the BL gets unlocked and people like pongster develop for this device)...
Overall, sexy device but disappointed with such major holes left unattended..
A little offtopic but was a battery related questions and did not wanna start a new thread so posting here -
Does anybody know of if there's any app which can get the battery percent to show in the top bar instead of the default indicator?
Thanks

Any ideas on how I can do that? I tried using current widget but I guess because it's not rooted, current widget showed me a log of 0mA all throughout (yeah rite! hehe)
when I figure it out myself I'll let you know.
Current things I found that killed my battery over night: VTOK & Google Latitude
I went into Settings --> About Phone --> Battery --> Battery Use and checked, and it says display is eating most of my battery.
As far as mine, I get about 12 hours of battery life with standard usage, with the display eating most of the life, so if you're saying the screen is off, you might get different results...
over my 8h sleep battery dropped like 10%, nothing special (count in : wifi on, sync with gmail, weather) guys. new phone, fresh unoptimized kernel and radio. it'll get better. my prev phone (desire) was like sh*t at beginning in relating to its current spec rom ... and btw for checkin consuption : system panel (not lite), there is monitoring and u can see which apps running again if ya shoot them, check sync-s etc. many many thing to do, hard to tell in a single post

well it certainly sounds like a part of it is specimen issue.. here's my latest experience... last few times i have let it completely discharge and then charge back while the phone was off so i dont mess with it... once 100% charged, i switched the phone on and received a call.. a 25 minute conversation ate away 15% of my battery... LOL...
then, (now it gets better)... in 2 hrs of standby, the phone was at 60% which means it lost another 15% battery in 2 hrs of "standby".. im not sure if i can even call that state a "standby" anymore...
anyways... im wondering if its worth pinning hopes on rom development on our forum or should i just return this and go with something like nexus S which, O well, I can live with... atleast it has a 3300mA batterypack available... what's the use of kickass speeds and features if i have to use a phone like a desktop..
Hey, I have pretty bad battery drain during stand by as well I recommend trying to adjust the sync accounts, esp HTC hub and how often it updates that should improve it...I have a bunch of HTC widgets set up so im suspecting that being the reason for battery drain during stand by also adjust your email update setting accordingly. Every little bit helps!
Battery gauge stuck at 100%
Another one slightly off topic - but why start another battery thread.
It is the second day with my Sensation, and since I took the phone off the charger this morning, the battery gauge has been stuck at 100%. All other apps reading the battery status (e.g. Battery Widget) show the same number. I rebooted the phone multiple times, replaced the battery - nothing - permanent 100%. Has anyone had a similar experience? Did I get a perpetuum mobile ?
BTW the readings were fine yesterday.

Thanks for the pointer.. I will surely try that and see if it makes a difference..
That being said, call me crazy but it just occurs to me that HTC should be putting in some minimal efforts to check off basic quirks like battery consumption and QC. I mean all of us are spending a buttload of money on these devices year over year and then we rely on our devs here to give us basic functionality. Back in the days the reason people joined forums was to tweak devices.. Now it almost feels like we might as well expect only the hardware for the price we pay... disappointed!
Anywho...
I fully charged the phone before I went to bed last night. Eight hours later, the battery is at 10%. Is there something wrong with the battery?
Try using the Spare Parts app to see what's really using the battery in detail.

Unique Battery Problems

Hi guys,
Here's one for you!
After I performed the widely reported HTC Desire battery calibration on my HTC Desire S I was easily getting about 40hours usage from it. I was extremely impressed by its long battery life.
However in recent days I have been getting just a fraction of this. Perhaps 15hours at most. My usage hasn't increased or decreased and I'm struggling to find an explanation as to why the battery life has been slashed. I recalibrated and still no improvement.
Can anybody shed some light please!?

You need to run some battery monitoring tools to see whats actually eating the battery.
I'd recommend battery monitor widget this should show the amount of battery being eaten at a given time and record history, so you can determine if its a rouge application or a duff battery?!
After you install it it change Settings->Monitoring->Battery Capacity to the correct value of 1450.
Try to think about what applications you may have installed around the time the consumption changed or if you have recently added new accounts to sync.
Indeed you need a battery monitoring tool to see exactly what is going on but for me I noticed that running a GPS application and after that stoping GPS module never release completly the resources and the battery is discharging faster.
All indications shows there are no GPS connections and the module is off but the battery discharge at 2x speed than usual. I had to restart the phone and the problem is solved until the next time I start any GPS app (Navigon , iGO ..).
I use stock ROM.
You could also try, where is my android power.
It's an app that shows you which app consume how many % of battery.
Maybe the problem is related to an app you downloaded lately
Thank you for all your comments so far guys. Unfortunately I am no closer to finding out what has started to dissolve my battery.
I have done a factory reset today to rule out any rogue app causing problems.
Just seems odd that I can go from getting 36-40 hours usage down to about 15 without dramatically increasing my time spent using the phone.

[Q] Heavy battery drain issue - help troubleshoot

Of late, I have been having heavy drain of battery on my Atrix 2. I am running JB 4.1.2 (672.300.404.ME865.Retail.en.05). Trying to troubleshoot it (including recalibration) since the last few days without luck.
The symptoms...
- Sudden shut down - Have had 50%+ charge levels. Goes down to 5% and shuts down within minutes. (You can see the random drops in the charge levels in the pic)
- Completely drained out battery charges from above 40% when plugged in & charges to 100% in no time. (that 67% charge in the attachment is within 5 mimutes of power plug in)
Does the battery need a replacement?

Try changing battery... even i had same problem with Custom rom. Battery used to last only for 10 to 12 hours but now its more than 17 hours on JB 4.1.2 leak,,,,...Use stock rom. and remove any unncessesary apps and installl ROM again if u want :good:
How old is your Atrix 2? If over a year then battery surely begins to give lesser performance. Disable any other task killer / memory manager & just let OS do its thing. See if installing Media Scan disable from play helps & do not keep using random chargers, make use of original charger as received with phone. Finally see Better Battery Stats. It is said battery stats should never be wiped but see if it helps you and finally search for Apex's better battery life guide for many handy tips.
I disabled notifications, sync, froze higher wakelock apps & my battery life improved a bit but then it is no fun existing in a bare bones environment.

The phone is just about a year and half old. The drop in battery performance is just too drastic, sometimes it doesn't even last an hour after the charge. Will try to go back to original ROM and see if it improves else will probably have to go for a new battery pack.

Think mine is clearly a battery issue. Replaced the battery with a new one yesterday and now the phone lasts 6 hrs at least on a single charge.

I couldn't write to developer's forum so I'm asking here.
I've recently firmwared my AT&T A2 CM 10.1.3 and battery drains really fast! The previous build was CM 10.1 (25th of June). I wiped cache and dalvik cache and firmwared CM 10.1.3. At least 3 people report that thie batteries on this ROM drain slow.
What did I do wrong???

Battery life varies so much from user to user that it is impossible to answer your question without A LOT more information.
Go here:

Download the app and follow the directions in the op. That and reading through that thread itself should tell you everything you need to know about what is using up your battery.
That being said, everyone has different habits and expectations when it comes to their battery. What one person says is good battery life, another will likely say is bad. So just keep in mind that there is not a right or wrong, just what is right or wrong for you.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
Thank you fro your answer. When I used previous version of CM the battery lasted 3 days with minimal using and turning the flight mode at night on.
As long as I installed newer version with JBX kernel the battery lasts 20 hrs max.
