My phone was working earlier today and then all of a sudden, the screen started to make everything stretched out and then started flashing from black to the homescreen image. I cant see or make out anything, however when I do receive a phone call, the screen is normal for about 2 seconds and then goes back to wigging out. Also when I restart the phone, the load up screens are all normal.
Is there anything I can do besides flashing it again? Im really bummed because I cant even get to PIMbackup and backup all my info. Any suggestions? THANKS!

Hey everyone,
I seem to be having a weird problem.
My Wizard is freezing on the 3rd splash screen. It's been working fine for the last like....2 months. I didn't install anything yesterday (when it was working fine)
Any Idea's on how I can backup my data? or do I have to do a full reflash =\
?
There isn't any way of backing up data if the phone cannot enter the normal mode of operation. If you have programs such as.. hmm.. forgot the names, that allows you to boot into safe mode, you have a slim chance of getting it into normal operation mode. To check if you have such software, just soft reset the phone when you are at the frozen screen AND around which the phone should have been started.
If not, the only way is to hardreset your phone. And overclocking to 260 is no good in a long run.

Exactly where around is when the phone should be started? At the point in time where the phone should be booting back to the today screen?
Yeah, at the 3rd splash screen...it should load the today screen, but it doesn't.
It just kinda sits there, eventually the screen would stop responding.
I read the "SD backup thread" i did it, unknowing I'd lose all my contacts! Lucky I made a PIMbackup about a month ago...
Still, I wish tehre was a way I could still get back my data.
Same thing happened to me, but then I solved it.
The battery & WM6 weren't being cooperative. Somehow, NBD's WM6 didn't get the proper battery status. My 8125 kept freezing up on the third screen or keep re-booting after the third screen started, particularly after trying a wi-fi spot.
I took the battery out, which of course stopped the freeze and/or recycling. Then I reinserted the batt, plugged in the unit & then turned it back on... no prob!
Weird huh?
OK so weird things started today with my G1....I turned it on this morning like I do every morning after its been on the charger overnight...
Checked my messages, was running really slow...chompsms kept force closing.
Came back about 5 minutes later and it was still flashing the green light, but I try to get the screen back on and it would come on.
took battery out...turned back on...did the same thing once screen timed out...
took battery out again..turned back on...got a phone call while screen was on time out...show nothing just vibrated, no ringtone played either....
took battery out again..turned back on...turned screen time out to NEVER...phone froze about 3 minutes later on Home screen..
What is the phones problem? Should I reflash jf1.42 Rc33 ?
It just keep freezing after a while, everytime someone calls it freezes on call screen (when the call screen does show up, sometimes id doesnt)
getting very pissed at this thing, wanna throw it....HELP....
I took the sdcard out and it has worked fine since.....odd? Im going yto need to put it back in to use newsrob......any help?
I hope someone can help me, I have a Sprint Touch Pro2. Last night it randomly started rebooting itsself, i was not loading a new rom, i was not installed any software, i wasn't doing anything other that texting and IMing people. After i removed the SD Card, there were a few times i got it to load to the unlock screen, but once i got passed that it would say "starting device activation..." or something like that. Then i got it loaded but Touch Flo 3D would not automatically start. So i removed the battery and restarted it again and i went to bed and left it charging, and it kept restart itself again, when i woke up it the phone was dead, and will not turn on. The charging light is on but it will not turn on.
This happenned to me, i ended up having to exchange the phone.
have u tried a hard reset. U can do this by holding power button and call and end keys.
Phone must be off and it will completely erase your data
this sounds like what my phone is doing. is there a fix? i think im sol because i didnt buy it though sprint.
Not Hopeless
This happened to my Sprint TP2 I soft and hard-reset it but it still went back to the reboot loop.
I put it in the tri-boot screen and re-reflashed the stock ROM and all was well.
Same here
The same thing is happening for me right now. Soft-resets aren't helping. It's sporadic, however, sometimes saying it successfully activated and needs to reboot (then going into activation right away), sometimes saying it failed, and sometimes not coming up at all (but I'm pretty sure it's running in the background, even if I hit cancel, because the phone is very warm and the battery drains very quickly).
I took it to Sprint and they confirmed it was already activated. They tried manually activating it, succeeded, and it still kept doing it. However, both them and I were able to place a phone call, text, and visit a website... so basically it was working. But, like I said, this constant nagging of activation was running in the background sucking juice and killing performance. Their diagnosis was "it's acting weird". The main home screen clock has also been stuck at 0:00 ever since this started (though the lock screen clock and clocks in the World Clock screen are correct).
They said I could go to their service shop and do a diagnostic and backup/wipe/restore or they'd replace it under warranty if it still didn't work.
I figured I'd just try the hard reset myself tonight. Will post how that goes. I'm not sure what this "tri-boot" screen is, but I'll do some searching and check that out too.
ok, weird issue.
Yesterday I came back to my TF having left it inmy bag for the day, and it would not turn on at all.
I tried various things and then decided that the battery must be totally dead.
I left it to charge over night, and come the morning was able to watch it booting.
However once It finished boot it goes to black screen. Pressing the power button sometimes gives a flicker of backlight and then goes blank again. sometimes it even gives a glimpse of the screen.
Plugging in the power sometimes gives a longer blink of the booted ROM.
I have tried a cold boot, a full data wipe and I have used NV flash to fully reinstall the ROM (Prime 1.8)
After the full reinstall I go through the Google initial setup process without a problem, as soon as the rom boots I am back to the flicker of screen going off..
Does anyone have any ideas??
Still got the problem, does this sound like hardware to anyone else?
if the screen doesnt work during boot it is hardware problem. flash ur rom again or wipe it

Screen works fine during boot
Done both of your suggestions unfortunately, as I stated in my original posting.
I am going to try going back to Stock, and assuming its an app NOT restore any during the rebuild process.
TL: DR: Screen sometimes is totally black, but otherwise the screen seems to work fine. Sometimes the phone acts completely normal. Sometimes the phone acts completely normal, but the screen is tinted green, but only after it's booted up. I can access download screen with no issue, most of the time I can get into recovery with out a problem, but not always.
I'm brand new to the GS3, but I purchased it last week on ebay (described as fully functional) since my other phone has been giving me troubles. I received it last Thursday (5/15/14), and it seemed to work fine. I have not been able to activate it yet since I did not have 4G sim card, so I've just been playing with it around the house to make sure it works until I get my 4G card from Verizon in the mail.
So Saturday comes along, and I notice that the screen is all black, but makes the usual sounds when you touch the screen. I pull the battery, and boot it back up. The Samsung logo would come up, but none of the boot animation. Nothing after the Samsung logo. It seems that if I push the power button, the phone seems to be functional, but nothing comes up on the screen. Sometimes if I push the power button a bunch of times, I can get the screen to come on. The screen looked normal, and everything worked fine, until I hit the power button. Back to the black screen. I booted into recovery, cleared the cache and did a factory wipe, and it seemed to be completely normal for a while.
I've noticed that sometimes phone acts completely normal (proper colors, screen turns off and on as it should), sometimes it works normally but the screen is tinted green (power button turns off and on the screen as it should), and sometimes, the screen is totally black, but the touch functions work normally.
Since the screen always works at boot (I can see the Samsung logo clearly and with no color distortion, but sometimes the rest of the boot animation is gone, even though I hear the boot music), and there is also no color distortion in recovery or download mode, am I likely looking at a software issue?
It is not rooted, and completely stock on 4.1.2. EDIT:Baseband is VRBMF1.
I have tried to make my problem as clear as possible, but I will clarify anything if necessary.
Thanks.
I downgraded to VRBMB1 with ODIN, and I still seem to be having the same issue (screen goes black, won't come back on), although the green tint problem hasn't happened yet. As long as I leave the screen on, it works fine. I'm thinking that this might be a problem with the power button, although I don't understand why it would allow me into download mode with no issues, but trouble doing much of anything else. I'm probably going to be sending it back for a refund, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm more than willing to listen. Thanks.
