Sprint - Weather again! - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Since the database that holds city information is stored in ROM on the Sprint TP, editing it to add additional cities would not seem possible.
Would there be any way to repackage the ROM some how so that file is NOT stored in ROM but just in regular storage, thereby making edits possible?
Also, when installing a new ROM set, will a hard reset still restore the original factory settings in case something goes wrong?
Thanks,
Chris

If you load a new ROM, THAT is your ROM. Only way to go back is flash to another ROM.

i added new cities exactly the same way i did on my sprint pro as i did my sprint diamond using weather database editor

How did you get past the error about changing the read only flag on the database? Using Total Commander, properties for the database that holds the city information show that the file is "in ROM" and therefore cannot be changed. I tried renaming or even deleting the file and couldn't.
Perhaps some Sprint models did not have that file in ROM but in regular storage, I don't know.
What is the model id of the Sprint TP that you were able to change the database on?
Attached is what I see in Total Commander when I look at the properties of the database.
Chris

I had the same problem with my Touch Pro. When you look at the properties of the file, you will see the check marks. If you DOUBLE CLICK on them they will go away.

PIE Default_409.htm broke on flash...

Alright, I modded an AT&T ROM & flashed to my device & that's when & now I have a slight annoyance. AT&T changes the default pie home page default_409.htm which shows the favs. & history on the page. I tried cooking the original into my rom & have also since tried overwritting it in the widows directory. However, both times I get the same effect. It does NOT display the 5 recently visited pages on history or favorites & when I click on either tab it open file explorer to the windows directory.
I open the htm in notepad & it looks like everything is correct. AM I missing an xml or something? Or did opne of the AT&T cabs I used move something I need to compolete the function?
Any ideas???

HTC Home Weather - Custom Cities do not work but pre installed will

I am working with NBD 8.3 with htc home and my custom city does not update. I believe i entered everything correctly in HHC but it still does not work. If i choose a city out of the list it will update. I live in the US and enter the correct zip code and nothing. I did have to delete the accuweather thing from the registry to get the weather to update again. Any help on getting the custom city to work would be great. Ive searched but have found nothing to help.
The custom database is only for locations outside the US&Canada.
If you want to be able to set it up to download weather data for any accuweather location in the US read these: (actually I believe this will work for any accuweather location period but I'm not sure)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187
http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/
Basically, on the second link just download the first linked file which is the signatures cab, copy it onto your phone and install it.
###I know on the second link above there is a specific patch for the BlackDiamond ROM but it doesn't say what version of the BD ROM it is for, I would probably just use the universal patch and if that doesn't work then try the specific BD one###
Then download the universal patch, unzip it on your computer, copy the HTCHome.dll from your phone to that folder on your computer, run the batch file, it will create a cab file, copy that cab file back to your phone and install it.
Then you can use any location that has a valid accuweather location code.
Example NAM|US|CA|OAKLAND
As far as I have seen you can set the location name to whatever you want so long as the location code is correct.
You mention deleting the original host key in the registry so I presume you know your way around the reg, I would recommend editing the location name and location code directly in the registry (I use TotalCommander) on my ROM the reg keys "Location" and "LocationCode" are located at:
\\HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings\
You can look up your location code by looking at your local forecast on www.accuweather.com
going along with the example above:
www.accuweather.com/us/ca/oakland/...
The part: /us/ca/oakland is what you are looking for, just put NAM in front (stands for North America), and use pipe-bars instead of slashes "|", and use all caps for letters. Also don't include the zip code at all, the correct location code is sufficient.

Am I the ONLY one having trouble changing cities in the Weather app?

Greetings all. Had my Touch Cruise about 3 days, and I love it. I've got iGuidance installed and working great, the music button added to the HTC home screen (I'm happy with 5 tabs for now), Installed PocketCM Keyboard which allowed me to "register" my Skyfire beta (having some trouble streaming audio from kjram.com though), etc.
So this device does EVERYTHING I was doing on my HTC 8525 before it died. EXCEPT being able to add additional cities to the HTC Home Weather Application. I'd messed with this on the old phone, and managed to edit the HH weather file under Windows, replace that file with my own version, and then I could add more local cities to the application, and then view their info whever I pleased.
BUT on the Touch Cruise, I can only copy the HH*blahblah*.xlm file... not replace it. Not even with Total Commander, or after hiding the HTC Home menu, soft booting, and then trying to un-writeprotect the file. Has anyone else had any luck with this? I found a thread from a guy who has some universal unlocker apps and such, but all they did was corrupt the HTC app and I was lucky uninstalling them fixed things without a hard reset.
Thanks!!!
Everything works fine here.

Weather cites
I have been able to add any US city I want changing the buitilt in home plug in for the modified 6 tab package that is offered here.
http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/
Get this modified package and you have an up to date home plug in that you can add cities to
http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/htchome-2.1-n2a.cab
Remember to uncheck the htc home in today settings before you try to copy the modified xml weather files back onto your phone. If you don't it will not copy back
Thanks for the replies. I'm still having trouble so I'm linking to a pic of the problem here.
http://merkman.spaces.live.com/photos/cns!4355EB455D027302!133/
As you can hopefully see, the HH weather file on my Touch Cruise is read-only. And no program I've tried will change that property. What you see here is AFTER unchecking HTC Home from the Today page, doing a soft reset and confirming the HTC Home plug-in is NOT loaded, then connecting with Activesync and trying to change the properties of that file.
I've also used applications on the device, such as File Explorer and Total Commander, but neither of those worked either. Wonder what I dorked up that I can edit the file like others can.
N2A's Weather Patched Files
Go to N2A's site
http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/
He tells you how to do it. If you still are having problems let me know what city you want in it and I will make one for you.
You might also need to disable the HTC Home plugin, if you have one running already, from Start -> Settings -> Today -> Items After doing this you should be able to copy the file to your pc modify it and the put it back and over write the file there.
mpf54 - I know exactly what your saying, disable the plugin BEFORE trying to uncheck read-only, or before overwriting it with a copy I edited on my PC. But I can't uncheck the read-only on the device, as the option is greyed out. And when I copied the file to my PC and edited it (as I did on my AT&T 8525), I couldn't paste my copy onto the Touch Cruise for the same reason (would NOT let me overright the file).
As for N2A's site, I tried following these instructions. But I've been unsuccessful put a copy of my DLL into the directory he specifies and "unlocking" my ROM. And when I tried his "Touch" rom, that didn't seem to work on my phone. I had to uninstall the software so the HTC Home screen would show up on my device again.
So I'm guessing I need to "unlock" my ROM somehow so I can edit the HH weather file that is a part of it. But I have no idea how to do that...
Weather
Get this file.
http://weather.not2advanced.com/file...me-2.1-n2a.cab
It is a repacement htc home that also has the 6 tabs. It is also modified already to be able to get other cities not on the HTC list. After you install this cab file then go in and modify the Weather cities list. This has worked for me on a Touch, a sprint touch and my touch cruise.
mpf - Really appreciate the help, and finally understand how this works.
The version of the weather app on my device seems to be part of the ROM, so I can't edit the HH weather file.
However, when I installed the ROM you suggested, it installs ANOTHER copy of the Weather app, and that version stores a DIFFERENT copy of the HH weather file I CAN edit.
So I just need to copy a version of that file to my PC, edit it with Notepad, and copy it back. Should be golden after that.
Thanks again for your assistance. Just couldn't understand what was wrong previously.
Weather
Glad you got it working. Took me a while to find the solution but that new plugin made it easy.

No, I don't think you are the only one. I am too having problems with my weather. I am living and working in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. i followed the instruction, but when I tried to get the weather for the city. It could not find it.
I'm having trouble with my weather also, but not in the same sense. My problem is the weather report, temps and such is usually wrong by as much as 10 degrees with what the local weather report says which is more or less correct. I usually update manually to save battery. I think I might trial some other weather app and see how that goes. Anyone else with with this problem?
German Tool for HTC-Weather
Hi I'm a german and sorry for my worse english.
I had made a little tool for the german Orbit2 / Polaris-users but i think it may also work for others (link to original post).
Translation:
1. deactivate HTC-Home plugin:
go to "start -> preferences -> today" under "elements" disable the HTC-Home2. Location-Code:
get your location-code under
http://www.accuweather.com/world-ind...her&traveler=0
in the addressbar it should looks like that:
www.accuweather.com/world-forecast.asp?partner=
accuweather&traveler=0&locCode=EUR|DE|GM012|TRIER&metric=13. Change the HTCWeather.dll:
install the CAB-File (N2A Patched Home Plugin DLL.cab)
4. Install my file (HTCWetterXML.cab)
start the program "HTC Wetter XML" and insert the above data (see picture original post).5. activate HTC-Home plugin
6. soft reset
7. test it
the data is entered directly in the registry not in the "HH_0407_WeatherCities.xml". So if you change the city over the plugin the data are lost. You have to restart my program and push the insert button again.
here you can get the files.
hope i could help

cbreze - Afraid not. After loading the "new" HTC Touch app, I needed to set the weather back to F for the temps to make sense to me. But I've been able to add several local cities to my phone now, and its working really great!
The one thing I'd kinda LIKE to change, but I'm not going to sweat it... is the new HTC app I installed uses WMP for the music app on the 5th HTC Tab. I kinda liked that the Touch Cruise ROM version used it's own media player, but that's a minor issue I'm happy to live without.
Add cities
If you want to add cites to the weather app keep in mind that the htc home plug in that is shipped with the phone goes to a site that HTC has set up to get the weather. It does not have every city for weather. If you read previous post here you will find a link to a new HTC Home plug in that has been modified. If you upgrade to this plug in you should then be able to change your city and then Get the weather for the city you want.

So finally I got it working, one question remains, is it possible to have two different locations at a time?

Unfortunately no. The app simply isn't made to show multiple cities at once. You'll just have to switch between them as you like, at least until someone makes an app like the iPhone has. Anyone know if such an app has already been written? Would be SWEET on our Touch Cruise phones.

[Fix] Facebook in HTC Album

There is nothing wrong with eitheryour HD2 or Facebook; the problem is with a particular tweak that I find irrevocabley pernicious across my phones! It ALWAYS causes my ELF, Diamond, and HD2 to behave erratically and without adding the alleged performance boost everyone is convinced it does!
I have tried it, it caused my album to lose the ability to load Facebook photos, fixed that, recreate the problem and saw the same result, and finally fixed it again!
NOTE:Most of our tweaking apps apply this legacy em3.w tweak mindlessly to our wm6.x systems.
The fix is simple:
After you have applied all your performance tweaks, go into your registry and:
1. Navigate to \HKLM\SYSTEM\STORAGEMANAGER\FATFS
2. Change the DWORD value "CacheSize" to 0
3. Reboot
4. Launch Album, goto Facebook albums, load your favorite one, browse the pics
5. Rejoice!
Cheers
:
Go into your registry
Or you just download the hotfix at the official HTC site....
Hi shirreer,
thanks a lot for this, unfortunately this seems not to be the problem I'm facing. This Reg is on 0 already.
I've been using a lot of Manila versions (currently 20142924)
But also 2011 and 2012 had the same issue.
Maybe its the FacebookSDK build in the ROMS I used so far. Dutty once issued an different one, but with this album works, but contacts doesn't any more....
Thanks although.
Oh hey, that works nicely. Guess there is such a thing as too many tweaks. Heh! Don't generally use the feature, but it's nice to have it working anyway.

I don't have a Leo, but this fix works for me on my Raphael & Rhodium: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=268518&d=1263662460
It simply creates a folder called "PINET_ROM" in the root of your device. The FacebookSDK.dll is hard-coded to look for Flash Storage there, but for some reason, the driver that's supposed to create the folder (OEM_FLASHDRV_1.DLL) doesn't mount the drive properly (or something like that). So this should get the online Album working. Also, make sure these registry keys are set so that you see the option to view FB Albums for linked contacts:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila]
"EnableOnlineAlbum"=dword:1
"Facebook.Disable"=dword:0
(The latter value shouldn't actually be there at all)
The downside here, of course, is that the Facebook Online Album cache is going to take up quite a bit of storage on your device, but for you Leo users, I assume that's not a big deal, right?

I dont seem to have a problem loading any friends albums anywhere, in the app, in the htc albums or where ever.
THE problem i have is, i cant get my own album to load in the fb app normaly .....
I can see my wall and all that, but when i go to my album tab to tag or whatever, in the fb app, it just sits there loading forever.
The only way i can get it to load, is by adding the fb app to rotate i bsb tweaks and rotating the app to landscape and they show. It wont load any thumbnails though.

The Facebook app is an entirely different animal - that's an MS app. You'll have to search around to find fixes for that issue. My response relates only to the Sense online Album integration.

I don't know. That doesn't make any sense. The CAB doesn't even contain any files, so there's no reason it shouldn't install. There's also no reason you shouldn't be able to create a directory. I assume you have an HD2? Can you provide your device ROM info, Manila version, etc? The best to allow people to help is to provide all those details.
Yes I've an HD2.
The rom version is 1.66.408.1
Manila 2.5.xxx

If it's not letting you create the folder, that likely means the Flash Drive is actually working, so I don't think you need this fix. Do you not get pictures when you go to Facebook Online Album?
When i go to create the folder, a message appear: impossible to cerate folder, the folder already exists.
When i go on facebook on line album... i see nothing (only the list of my friend)
when i touch on refresh (on a friend's name) appear the message: the customer doesn't have an album to visualize

The problem you're describing isn't the problem I was attempting to fix. Did you try the tweak from the first post regarding the CacheSize?
Are you sure the friend you're looking at has Facebook Album pictures? I can get to Online Album 2 different ways - either going through a link Contact's page, or selecting the Facebook Tab in HTC Album. From there, you should see a list of the linked friend's FB Albums. if you're not getting that far, then you have no way of knowing if the picture preview is working or not.

[Q] How to backup and restore provisioning xml file

Hi guys,
I have LG Quantum which I converted into C900K (Australia ROM) using instructions from one of the teds here. Now, for various reasons, I want to go back to original C900B (Bell) ROM but I would like to first backup provisioning xml file from current ROM and add it into phone once I convert back to C900B (Bell).
How I can do this?
Thanks
OK, first of all, what do you mean "backup provisioning xml file"? The phone has dozens if not hundreds of provxml files on it, plus whatever ones you've personally added.
If you want to back up the system provxml files, they are generally in the \Windows folder. You can use the Mango Webserver app to download them, though it can't put them back (can't write to \Windows). Note that most of these files are processed invisibly and the user never calls them.
If you mean "create a provxml file that backs up my files" then you're out of luck; the provxml processor available to apps on LG phones doesn't permit operations on files.
If you mean "backup my provxml files from the DiagProvXML app's isolated storage" then you can use a tool like Isolated Storage Explorer or similar to do this.
If you mean something else, you're going to need to be a lot more specific.
As for restore, the only option available on LG is to put it in an app (such as the DiagProvXML app), either in the XAP file directly or into the isolated storage using something like Isolated Storage Explorer (I believe Windows Phone Device Manager can do this too). You can then process the provml using DiagProvXML or a similar app.
Again, if you want to do something else, you're going to need to be way more specific.
GoodDayToDie, thanks for detailed reply.
I'm not expert, but I'll try to explain. I bought my phone from Bell, unlocked it and moved to Speakout (Rogers). Problem was that data and mms never worked over the air, only wireless. My understanding is that provisioning xml file holds necessary settings and unfortunately I haven't had one for Rogers.
My only solution is to follow instruction from one of the treads (specifically written to help with this issue) to convert my phone to Australian version C900K which has necessary software to request and get xml file. I did that and finally I got xml file from Rogers and data working.
Now, I have various problems with C900K. For example I'm unable to install xap files, I have to update my phone manually, etc... All that was working just fine on C900B (Bell) version.
I was hoping I can export Rogers xml file out of phone, revert my phone to C900B, and then import xml file again, enabling data in process. Basically I would like to have C900B version working with data on Rogers using xml file I obtained from C900K version.
Does this make sense? I hope you understand what I'm trying to achieve.
You want to export your network configuration, so you can restore it on the original firmware. Note that while network configurtion can be set using provxml, it is neither stored that way internally once set, nor is that the only way to set it. Provxml is also used for a great many other things, which is why your original request was far too vague.
I assume LG has some kind of "network setup" app, and that you tried it but found it didn't have settings for your carrier? That most likely *does* use provxml, but extracting it will be a neat trick. It's probably stored in a database of some kind under the \Windows folder. Odds are that you can download it using the Webserver app, but I don't even know what files to look for on LG.
Your best bet would simply be to find the APN settings you need (that's basically the "Internet service provider configuration" for a phone) and enter those manually. Typically, your carrier is happy to provide you that info if for some reason your phone doesn't find it automatically, and you can find the option to select your APN, or add a new one, under Settings -> Cellular. That should enable data, hopefully including MMS (which uses data).
If that doesn't work, you could also try running AutoDataConfig; by setting a few registry values (easy on LG) you can force data config to run at the next time the phone boots up, which will try to set up neccessary configuration for your carrier (obviously, you must have the SIM card in at the time).
Hope that helps. It would be good to know what things you tried prior to the (generally quite excessive) step of re-flashing your ROM.
