Total Commander Registry editing question?? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I have installed Total Commander and I have a very simple question…. Where in the world do I find the registry editor please? I know its probably a very dumb question but I cannot find where it is… when I search for the strings to change, it doesn’t come up with anything…. Am I missing something?
And yes, I am new to this...
Thanks a mil

Here's how...
It took me awhile to figure this one out. In the navigation area at the top, type in "\\\" and hit enter. This will take you to the directory with the registry in it.

By reading about it in the help file that is installed with the program.
Chris

Stupid question, but do you download to your pc then move to the phone? or download straight to the phone?

The version I have has to be downloaded to the pc, then run the exe from the pc and it will put it the program on your phone via activesync.

If you go to the download page, you have the option to get either a Windows-based installer (.exe) or the .cab file that you can download and install directly on the phone. You want the ARM/XSCALE version.

Another route to find it is to go to the root folder (\), there you'll see a folder with the name \\Plugins. In there is where the plugins reside, with the registry editor as one of them.

Thanks guys, got it installed, I apologize for my stupidity when it comes to these phones, but I see posts that say to type "\\\" ....how in the sam hill do you type that out on the phone? All I can find is the / key.

Read the post before yours. There's a "\" button on the top right. You can use that to go to the "root". Then just double-tap "\\Plugins".
(BTW, you'll find "\" if you search a bit in the virtual keyboard: go numeric -> second page. It's not on the hardware keyboard though.)

Thanks ripper, I didn't realize there was a second page on the number keyboard, I was just trying to figure out how to go to any of the HKEY stuff, cuz its not listed with the others.

Going to continue with the noobness in this thead. I followed this tweek.
Boost TFL3D Performance --> HKLM\System\Storagemanager\Fatfs and change key Cachesize from 16384 to 32768
I used total commander and clicked on the cachesize and it was set to 0 when I first clicked on it, not 16384 is that right? Do I just put 32768 in that and close TC and reset?

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ErrorReporting\DumpSettings]
"MaxDiskUsage"=dword:0
"MaxLogFiles"=dword:0
"DumpEnabled"=dword:0
I think this is what you're looking for.
Regarding the Windows Live shortcuts, just act as they are already in start menu\programs and edit the initflashfiles to move them out of there

I have a real simple question....I lost my command instructions for Typho5.exe, and it has totally slipped my mind.
What is the command to to seperate GSM, IPL & SPL, & OS from nk.nbf with out the files being split up?
From what I remember it was - typho5.exe nk.nbf -nosplit?
Is that correct? I'm sure I'm missing something here.
typho5.exe -x nk.nbf

Thats correct!
If you open 'run' and type the address of the folder you can have it run with out opening a command prompt
e.g D:\DEV_WIZcrossbow CLEAN-V2\Dump\typho5.exe -x nk.nbf
Then you just place you nb file in the same folder each time and run it from the run command in start menu. It will keep it there as well for you to use and use!!!
funman i figured an easier way out. just rename the shortcuts and make the changes in the initflashfiles.dat. LOL. Thanks though. I guess your way is correct. Now my only issue is making my ROM have more memory. Im stuck at 23.49 available program memory. Im working off my vanilla rom. Any suggestions?

I did it by making a resource file, placing it into windows and then making an
ico.lnk or icon.lnk ...don't remember and have no time to check now.
Dirrect that icon to the resource you created, make it invisible and put it into the folder you want to change appearence

[AT&T Fuze] Lower Case "e" in email tab

I cannot for the life of me figure out where the setting is to change the text on your tf3d tabs. Out of the box my AT&T Fuze says "email" for the touchflo email tab, I would like it to say "Email".
Sorry if this has been posted already but I searched.

It can be done by editing the 26948339_manila file in windows... If you have no clue what you are doing I suggest you get over you OCD as messing with this file in the wrong way can mess up tf3d.
Detailed instructions on how to accomplish this would be most appreciated... I couldn't find the file in the windows folder in my File Explorer (im assuming its hidden). What programs do I need to install and what steps need to be taken in order to successfully edit this value?
Thanks.

It can also be done by editing 090661f7_manila, which is where the names for all the tabs are defined. Find the line that says:
<trans-unit id="IDS_EMAILTITLE">
and edit the line under it to say:
<source>Email</source> [instead of <source>email</source>]
and then re-start TF3D. Like rymonday said, though, you can really screw stuff up if you mess up an edit in one of these files so do so at your own risk!
Would I edit the manila file on my PC with Notepad? Then replace it on my phone and change the properties with Total Commander or is there another way?
Anyone want to chime in on how to properly edit this file?

* Disable TouchFLO from Settings>Today>Items
* Use Total Commander (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2286376) and find the "090661f7_manila" file. Change the attributes (remove Read Only flag - have to tap twice to get rid of the "ghosted" checkmark). Click OK to save the file changes.
* Then edit the file as ITNV posted (again, with Total Commander)
Find the line that says:
<trans-unit id="IDS_EMAILTITLE">

<source>Email</source> [instead of <source>email</source>]

How to change file extension using the Touch Pro

Hi all, my first post!
Obviously u can tell by my nickname that i'm a long time symbian user, trying wm for the 1st time in a long long while.
Anyway, i was wondering if there's a way to change the file extension usingi the phone itself. Im trying to change a .zip to .theme but i cant figure out the proper way to do it. I know i can do this easily using a pc but im at work and cant do that stuff here, so im wondering if there's a way to do it using the phone without downloading another application to do it.
Oh, and yes, i did do a search for this already. Couldnt pinpoint exactly what im looking for.
Thanks!
Use resco explorer
i downloaded 2008 Resco Explorer, but cant figure out how to change the file extension...
oh well, i guess this is one not too many are familiar with.

No, it's just too obvious for most people to bother with. Go to the file you want to change, hold the stylus or your finger down on the and a menu will pop up. Scroll down to "rename". Then name it whatever you want.
Not so obvious if you read the entire question.

Renaming the file is not the issue. It's the extension.
I don't use resco, but it's trivial with total commander.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it .That ★ is pretty special.
What you could do as a workaround:
1) keep the symbol somewhere convenient (e-mail, webpage or MS Office document stored on phone)
2) copy-paste it for each site you're trying to log in to.
3) tell Opera to save the username/password
Better than nothing, I guess...

Only after pasting, or is the one you're trying to copy also being displayed like that?
If the original is also displayed as a rectangle, most likely the ★ is not present in any of the default fonts. You could try addin an extra font that contains the character somewhere on your HD2 and using font linking.
I have no idea where to look for a solution if the original ★ is displayed fine, but is just not pasted correctly though.

would you care to elaborate? it wouldnt let me copy it, and theres was nothing in the windows>font folder on my phone to start with
Just copy the file from the font folder in your computer to your device, and then move it to \Windows using Total Commander or Resco.
Another possible solution - try to log in using this as your username:
Code:
[&#9733!]
Replace the exclamation mark (!) with a semicolon (;)

That's the HTML code for the star. I doubt that will work as it won't be decoded from HTML before the login process takes place.
Just one thing that comes to mind - when you copied and pasted it and got the rectangle in the login box, did you actually try to log in? I assume you did, but I only ask because it shouldn't matter whether you have the font or not - you just want the correct character. The font is only for visual purposes, but software will still read the character as exactly what it is, regardless of what it looks like.
thanks nsider, that did work but john now I think about I think I didnt bother trying to paste the square in, oh well, its sorted now ;D
I didint try it but maybe its the solution you are looking for.
1.Install finger keyboard and MyMobiler.
2. Connect your phone to your pc using active sync. My Mobilers should start and you can control your phone from your pc.
3. Open Finger Keyboard's config screen and at the shortcut tab chose one and rename it (lg for example).
4. Copy the star symbol from your pc into My Mobiler, in the value field of the shortcut.
5. Apply the changes to the finger keyboard, disconnect your phone and try using it.
Shortcuts in finger keyboard are activated by a long press of a button.
Let me know if it works.

Windows Shell Ext. For Apk's?

Looking for a simple small windows program that will simply show correct icons for .apk's on my PC

Was really hoping this was out there for .apk's

Not anymore, i might have a solution for you
first get the image you want to use as an icon and resize it to be EXACTLY 256x256 and in .ico format
then click run in start menu and type regedit
allow UAC if needed
make backup of registry
if you want to just change the icon to know what it is, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.apk
if it isnt there, right click on the folder and create new key called .apk
check if the (default) entry is blank, if so, then create a new key in the same place as .apk and call it something.Assoc.APK (not tested)
in the new key, create a key called DefaultIcon, and in that create a REG_EXPAND_SZ and put the full path in quotes of the .ico file
tell me if it doesnt work and include screenshots
Thanks for the reply...whats I actually ended up doing is making an .ico of a droid and basically setting the file extension within windows to use that ico with any apk...thanks for the info above though
