GPS Not found - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Since yesterday, I am unable to connect to internal GPS on Touch Pro.
TomTom, iGo, google maps say "No GPS Device found".
It has happen after upgrading ROMeOS to 1.21 and restoring with SPB Backup using "Rom upgrade mode".
Other side effect is that QuickGPS update goes to 70-80% and then says "Unable to connect". It happens either by GPRS, WiFi or ActiveSync connection.
Do someone have an idea what happen?
Thanks!

I had a similar problem after I tried to upgrade TomTom on my Touch Pro...no GPS found...After I restored a back up fromSprite back up (latest version), the problem was the same! I did a hard reset and started over.
I'm currently looking for back up software that will allow you to back up the registry to a file that can be applied after a restore. I'm not fully convinced that this is the problem but I'd like the option anyway.

If your phone has Google Maps installed, try uninstalling it.
I was having the same problem with Destinator 7, but it was solved by doing that. I found this solution in some thread here, but can't remember exactly which.

You don't have to uninstall google maps. Simply go to GPS settings and from automatic, set the GPS port to 4.
Also check your external GPS port is Settings--System. I set mine to 5 and the GPS wouldn't work. I set it back to 4 and it was ok again

For TomTom configure your GPS reciever to "other NMEA" COM4 and 4800 Baud.
Works great for me.

I tried it, com5, com6...no positive result.
It was working fine before ROM upgrade and no changes were made to GPS settings, it just stopped working.
It seems that hard reset is needed unless no other possibility with changing config, registry etc.

Tilt with HTC ROM - GPS Issue

I have a Tilt (8925) with the stickied HTC ROM. Everything has been great, but I am having issues with GPS. I have downloaded both Google Maps and Live, gone in and checked the GPS settings of COM4 and Baud 4800. Neither of the two applications recognize that I have GPS. Am I missing something? Do I need to enable something on the device that I do not have active?
Thanks in advance!! Best Forum on the NET!
go to settings> System > External GPS settings
Programs should be COM4:
Hardware should be (None) and 57600
Access should be "checked"
Kaiser's GPS works differently from the others (I was using the Trinity) and the GPS Streams does not update like like the trinity.
After that, go to an open space, and get a sync first.
Thereafter, its all ok.
Thanks for the input. I have made the suggested changes and will get out in the open and try again. I'll post back with results.
When on the 8925 firmware, I manually set com4/4800 in google maps. And it never could get a sync in time, despite me running quickgps. I had to use another program to jumpstart it, which would take anywhere from 1 to 4 minutes the first time.
Now that I'm on htc firmware, I just let all the gps settings at default. Didn't configure them in google maps (default there is to use windows settings). Ran quickgps. Google maps gave me the couldn't do it message 3 or 4 times. But I was just playing around still and one time it just locked on. Ever since, it gets a lock in about 5-10 seconds.
After going outside, the GPS finally enabled and I was able to use it with Google Maps and Live. Before today, I had tried to do it inside....thanks again for the tip!
I tried this; clicked okay. I tried soft reset/hard reset and neither keeps the new setting (from 4800 to 57600).
Any ideas?
Note: I just upgrade to 2.0.0.12 from 1.00 so let me see if that solves the problem. Will report back.
Note2: That solved the problem (who knew that upgrading could actually fix something).

GPS / Google Maps Problem After Helmi Upgrade

After I upgraded to the helmi rom my GPS seems to have stoped working. Google maps attempts to get a fix for about 20 seconds, then throws an error that the GPS is not responding. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have installed quickgps and downloaded the update with it, didnt seem to help.

I also have a problem. I was using helmi then upgraded to helmis big storage rom. I was geting gps fix in 20-30 seconds now i stood outside on different options (built in gps, other com 4) and waiting 5-10 minutes, nothing just searching for gps signal
Use a GPS test app, like GPSTest to "warm" up your GPS receiver. If it finds satellites, exit and try running your GPS software. I've had success at this point.
If that does not work, note the settings used on the test GPS app, and plug them into your GPS software.
If that doesn't work, start off with fresh settings by doing a hard reset.
This is already covered in a thread or two, btw

Was able to find GPSTest, and after that all is well. It must need to prime the reciever
I experienced issues at first but once you get it to connect to first time all is good.
i couldn't get a gps fix on anything until i installed TomTom. Now TT works perfectly and so does every other GPS. I believe that GPSTest will work as well but for some reason google maps and WLS won't "warmup" the gps until it's already be initialized by something else.

No Gps Device Problem!

I have an HTC Touch Cruise and have installed TomTom 6 that came with the device. When I start it up, however, I get the message "No GPS Device!" in the lower left corner. Any ideas about how to get the handheld to see my internal GPS? I really thought this should work as the TomTom software provided on the CD appears to be modified for the Polaris.

1 Run QuickGPS
2 Ensure that in Tomtom GPS is configured as other NMEA, comm 4, and 4800.
I have the same problem. Did you wait long enough? It takes about 10s or more to initialize TomTom itself and then he starts looking for a GPS device. And indeed I ran QuickGPS too, good practice

If you read the HTC documentation, you'll see that you've to first (before installing the TomTom software) run the QuickGPS fix application. After that, install your TomTom SW, your card. Normally you won't have to change anything to the GPS configuration. The TomTom SW come configured with "Internal GPS Antenna" and should work like this.
Of course you have to be outside when you run the GPS
Be patient the first time. My Polaris take about 2 to 5 minutes before initializing the GPS. After that, 10 to 20 secs is generally needed to initialize the GPS (cold start).

I didn't run quickgps before installing tomtom and it works perfectly.
I reinstall TomTom and choose other NMEA, com 4, 2400.
I will also try with 4800.
In my case, the gps is incredible. It fix gps in 10 to 20 seconds.

Hi,
Mine works just fine. However, when I start TomTom I also get the message "No GPS Device!" bottom left. After a while it changes to "Waiting for a valid GPS signal..." This is typical if you are not receieving any GPS info because the device can't 'see' the satellites. On the bottom right of the screen you will see 5 'strength' indicators. Tap on this to bring up the next screen. At the top right there will be a battery strength indicator. Under this there is again a signal strenth indicator (with text 0 satelites). Tap on this and you should get the GPS Status screen. Tapping the 'configure button' should show the 'built-in GPS receiver' - tap Select to return. Once you move your device to a position where it can 'see' some satelites this will be shown on the GPS status screen.
In summary, the message really means 'no GPS signal' rather than no GPS device present.
Cheers
Michael
GPS not working, please help!
Hi my friends!
I can't get GPS to work on my TC!!
I know I have to run quickgps first, but ONCE I did, and since that I always get the message that it couldn't connect, try later. I know that there is a file here that I can install on the device, and I did it successfully, but nothing changed.
I have installed the program on the device, it prompted me that it will replace the existing one, and I ran it after a soft reset. Still can't connect.
What is strange for me, is that I have downloaded a program called sirftech, that can tell on which port my built-in device is listening on, but it couldn't find my gps device. It founds somethings on com7 and com9 but to no avail.
on com4 at 4800 nothing happens.
I also install iGO 2006 which is quite familiar here in Europe, but it also cant nor detect neither use any gps. I have been waiting for 20 minutes with this program to get the satellite data, but nothing.
I am lost here!
Anybody having the same problem?
Or my device may be faulty???

My GPS run well on my TC. First of all, I think it is normal that the program "SirfTech" don't find your GPS because the GPS Chipset into the Touch Cruise isn't a Sirf but it is integrated into the Qualcomm 7200 (processor).
Now to come back to your problem I suggest you to redo the TomTom installation. But before, insure to uninstall the previous version (not apply as an update).
Uninstall TomTom
Restart your device
Run QuickGPS
Reinstall TomTom (from the HTC CD). Install it into the main memory of your device, not on the storage card !
Restart your device
Launch TomTom / configure it
Check the configuration of your GPS (into "Change preferences" => "Show GPS Status" => "Configure" (Select your GPS receiver)
Built-in GPS received should be selected by default. If it is not the case, choose this option
Go outside and wait 1 to 5 minutes (should be less). Normally TomTom will work.
Hope it help.
I had the same problem yesterday. The GPS had functionned well but suddenly it would not start anymore. Once I switched the unit off (press the on/off button for about 5 secs) and on again it worked without problems. Probably you can just do a soft reset by pushing the resetbutton.
Thank you for you answer!!!
I have never installed tom tom, because I already have another navigation software, igo. the problem is that i cannot run quickgps, it is saying "Connection failed. Please try again later."
I already downloaded and installed the quickgps found on this forum, but it is the same.
so does it make any sense installing any program until I can't run quickgps?
or should the gps work also without quickgps just slower at startup?
(offtopic: and why my device sometimes does start charging if I connect to usb cable, and sometimes it does not??)

Which ROM are you using ?
Thank you for your post, but I have already tried both the restart and the reset button, but nor helped.
I am getting nervous.
But I have found a solution to my off-topic question: There was a check marked saying "Do not charge the device when turned on and connected to PC" In settings > Power. After I unchecked, it charges from usb even turned on.
I hope that my gps problem is so easy as well, but I just simply can't get it to work...

SOLVED!!!
Dear friends!
Thank you all for your kind help!
I have solved the GPS problem.
I am so stupid that I couldn't find this solution earlier...
So, Under Settings there is an option called External GPS.
It was not set up correctly. Now the GPS program port is set to COM1, the hardware port is (none), baud rate is 4800, and checkbox is checked, this is important. And igo is set manually to use com1.
Now iGO is able to seen 6 satellites from my desk near to the closed window!!
It is not yet found the position but it is working on it (i am patient as quickgps is still not working)
Thank you all and I hope I will help someone else later.
Moire
What device are you using? I have an HTC p3300 and have had this problem foreverr.
NO GPS Device!!! Please help
I bought my HTC TC yesterday. I previously used the Kaiser.
I've flashed to Bepe rom and then installed Tomtom from the CD.
I have not not been able to get any GPS signal yet.
I have read this thread but it still does not work. The yellow and blue icon on the GPS status screen doesnt move either. I have updated the quickGPS software but it didnt help.
I hve off course chosen internal GPS antenna in the configuration part.
Should I configurate the external GPS application or is it irrelevant anyway since I am not using it? and if yes how? What should be the settings (if this is relevant)?
Should I maybe change my Radio version? Can it help?
Please help
Thanks
Edit: After 2 days of trying it, no it works, I was ready to hard reset and installed sprite back-up. I have no idea why it did not work and why it is working now...
Anyway
my first polaris had the problem to get the position after 10-20 min outside a building , and then the sat-Bars on tomtom sat-konfig jumps around with every satellit forever. sometimes my car goes 347km/h ))). so when i press with my fingers hard on the back near the camera, it fixes the Position on gps. This seems to be a contactproblem between the gps-Antenna and the Receiver. I send it back, got a new one, now it runs like it shut.
it shut also run without quickgps, it only starts slower. Quickgps is just downloading a little database with the sattellites what are now in sight.
otherwise the gps-rec has to wait, to get all sats what are now on the horizon .
i think you have a connectionproblem to the internetserver from witch qgps get the data, if you can surf the internet with the polari, qgps shut download.
hope it helps

Problems detecting GPS service with iGO8 (or anyother SatNav program)...

Hey dudes,
im sure many of you already know this, but i figured id post it for those who may not be aware of this possible fix.
for the last few days ive been playing around with igo8 on my HD2, and i have been a little disappointed with the way this program performs. i have had lots of trouble getting a GPS lock, and frequently getting the "gps receiver cannot be found", message while trying to detect the devices GPS.
i think i may have a solution for any of you experiencing the same issue.
my solutions is to disable AGPS, in the HTC's Locations seetings menu.
after doing this, i have had great success getting a GPS lock - even indoors.
hope this helps a few of you.
cheers.
------------EDIT-------------
ps: i also have my GPS settings (in igo8) set to Port 4, with a Baut Rate of 38400.
i get a GPS fix within half a second of opening the igo8 map screen.
good luck.
no problem man. i figured id just make a post for those who may have been searching (or googleing) for "igo8" or "gps receiver cannot be found" rather than the specific "AGPS" setting. i spent quite a bit of time searching for everything excpet AGPS... seeing as though i had no idea AGPS was the cause of my problem.
so i thought i make the post for peeps in my situation, and also just to confirm that this AGPS thing might be an actual fix.
thanks for the reply dude.
ps: i dont mean my reply to sound like an A-hole, just wording it as simple as i can.
cheers.

Hello
can't find disable AGPS, in the HTC's Locations seetings menu
using miri 6.5.X V6
can you explain more or screen shot
hey mate. just gotta go to htc settings screen > location > then hit the on/off switch on the right. check the screen shot.
The agps part is missing on my 1.66 wwe rom. Is there something I am missing?
not too sure mate. if its a custom ROM, the ROM chef may have removed the AGPS feature. otherwise its possible your ROM simply does not contain the AGPS service.
if you cannot see it, and your ROM does not have it... then it shouldnt be causing any problems. are you having difficulty with your SatNav program?
I also don't have that setting in my official htc 1.66 NLD rom. Is there any other way to disable it? I kind of am curious if it improves my iGO8. Although I don't really have a problem. Only sometimes it takes a minute or two to get a fix.
Port Issue
Hi all,
i have an issue in finding the GPS signal as when i go the customize the external GPS under settings i assign the COM2 under Programs and the port to COM9 with Baud Rate 4800 and under access clicked the Manage GPS Automatically, then when i press on ok and go to get the GPS signal on iGO it cannot be located ...
i go back to external and found that the port is NONE...put it back to COM9 click OK and check it back ...it turns to NONE............installed new official ROM, cooked ROMs, other radios and even other GPS like Route66 and navigon but always the same problem cant get the GPS signal.......
any help
Cobrav... in your "external gps" settings, try set your GPS program port to COM4, the hardware i believe is irrelevant, because you are not plugging an external GPS device in (so set your GPS hardware port to 'none), and have 'manage GPS automatically' checked in the access tab. this is how i have my device set (having igo8 set to the port and baud rate from the first post), and with AGPS disabled... igo works like a charm. let me know if you have any further problems.
Cenobite_ & Agoattamer... not too sure why the AGPS service is not visable or present in your ROM. but if your not experiencing any crippleing problems with your SatNav apps... i wouldnt worry about it. the problem i was having with igo8 before disabling AGPS was making igo8 almost unuseable. one thing you can try though... in a file explorer, navigate to your devices windows folder (having all show hidden files settings checked) look for a .EXE file called AGPSSettings.exe. if this exists, run this .EXE and disable the AGPS setting. if this .EXE does not exist, its probably pretty safe to assume that there is no AGPS service on your phone, hence it will not cause any issues for you.

thank you,
don't have this setting in miri 6.5.X rom
any way I turn around this issue by launch OZI and after GPS locked I close OZI and launch IGO
Actually I have no issue connecting with iGO8. Just curious why the setting wasn't there in my official 1.66 rom. Phone is labeled as having agps but not one setting for it. So I don't know if it is off or on. Now I don't live in a big city but it would be nice to be able to enable it if entering a big city with many tall buildings.
What rom do you have, that you have this setting?
im using the stock Telstra ROM - 1.49.841.1 (71528) WWE.
so it seems my ROM is older than yours.
Thanks. I actually have a T9193. HTC must have felt the need to do away with that setting for some reason.
agreed. i also have the T9193, but it seems theyve omitted the AGPS setting/feature in the more recent ROMs. good call HTC.

[Q] No GPS signal on Navigon Select app on HTC HD7

Hi Guys,
I have installed Navigon Select on my HTC HD7 as explained in "Navigon Select GPS Navigation for WP7" but for some strange reason I am not able to see my current location, when I navigate to in the application I go to "GPS Info" it always says 0.0 and 0.0
My GPS location in turned on in the settings.
I get a pop-up message when i lunch the application that "Mobile Navigator" uses GPS data to locagte your position.
I thought that my gps might be broken but no... on the bing maps it shows exact location based on the GPS not on the mobile network signal.
I also tried "TA Maps" google maps and it shows location correctly...
I have reinstalled the navigon app but i got same results...
any help would be much appreciated,
ps. i wasn't able to replay to the post "Navigon Select GPS Navigation for WP7" because its my first post.

problem resolved...
For anybody else who might have the same problem:
I got my gps on navigon working after uninstalling some of the apps which were also using GPS it seemed for me like there is a limit of how many apps can use GPS signal. I must admit I had about 20.
