I have suffered a lot of ' out memory' problem
I am running Dopod 700 with the upgrade of WM6,
ROM Version: 5.70.11 WEE
ROM date:11/1107
ExtROM version: minihanhtran.PV
I have tried to install application with .CAB from SD and always select
'Storage card" option.
But every time I did, I can see the main memory is consumed, for example, I try to install M2D (with Update_19b all devices), it almost eat up my main memory.....(see bellow )
Check the memory status:
Storage: Program
Total :60.3MB Total :109.12 MB
In use :56.84 MB In use :42.02 MB
Free : 3.46 MB Free :67.10 MB
I try to un hide ExtROM, but there is error message, seems I have no ExtROM...
Can anyone can give a guide to solve this critical condition ? Thanks!

Hello,
Plz do'nt install M2D, it slows the wizard. Just flash to a precooked M2D with ROM like WizFlo, Wizard M2D Brushed 6.1, SimOne M2D or etc.
WM6 is little bit slower then WM6.1....
I also tested M2D to install in SNN diamond or TNT but the wizard became slow. Thats why, I flashed to WizFlo ROM, It runs great and fast.
Bye 4 Now
Thank you so much!
I will try your suggestion !

I would like to update ROM for BigStorage same as it is writed here.
But I can`t understand what exactly version of BigStorage ROM from ftp.xda-developers.com I need take
I tried different versions with "1.12" index, but in all cases I have "Chek sum error". Qtek doesn`t reboot and can`t exit from ROM upload mode until I reinstall my original old ROM.
there are alot of guide here...just pick one & follow the steps..
that what i did & just 2 days ago upgrade to 1.13rom +radio+big storage.
Look for the 1.13 rom.thats the latest so far
Blatant self-promotion aside, I recommend this one.
...well you can at least take the FTP links from the top of the file!
Hey there,
I tried searching, but still did not find a guide which correctly explains what exactly is the big storage rom.
I would be obliged if anyone could point me tothat topic.
Thanks.

umm wel from a fresh BigStorage rom Installer what i did was follow the wiki thats posted here and used the preivious guide that toomuchdogur mentioned for that extra help and i used the tmobile1.13 rom to upgrade i just downloaded the rom extracted it hexedited the rom as the wiki and guide says ( i didnt play with the device id thing and i had no problem) then uploaded it by first going into bootloader mode and using MaUpgrade_noid.exe and found no problem

BigStorage: In short, its hacking your Magician's ROM so that the measly 5MB of Storage that it usually has (NOT Memory (RAM), Storage - check it under Settings > Memory > Storage Card > Storage) is upped to 27MB.
Obviously 22MB of flash memory doesn't just materalise from nothingness - 22MB of the Magician's 27MB of Storage is usually reserved for all the customisations your operator may put in the ROM, which ranges from useful (Smart/Intelli Dialer, PhonePad, ClearVue Suite, GPRS and MMS settings, JAVA support and Camera software) to utterly useless and annoying (Provider's themes, wallpaper, colours, etc, where T-Mobile's grey and pink is especially crap). The BigStorage process hacks the Magician's ROM, ordering the device to ignore and delete the provider's customisations (called the Extended ROM), and remove the locks and restrictions placed on the reserved 22MB so that it can be used along with the default 5MB of user-accessible Storage allocated.
Hi guys (and gals)
First, thanks to c_shekhar for the Himalaya WM5 roms. Top Job
I'm quite new to WM5 and it has taken a little while for me to work out
how the XDA memory usage has changed from older PocketPC versions.
I thought I'd share how I think it looks for others, like me, who are using WM5
for the first time, thanks to the great ROMS on this site.
I've probably got bits of this wrong. Feel free to correct me
1st we need to understand what memory is in an XDAII:
128MB RAM (non-volatile after soft reset | volatile after hard reset)
32MB Flash ROM - Integrated with CPU (non-volatile after soft or hard reset)
32MB Flash ROM - Disk On Chip (DOC) (non-volatile after soft or hard reset) *
* All or part of this will get formatted if you select YES on the FORMAT STORAGE option on hard reset on WM5
The 32MB DOC Flash Rom is divided into two 16MB partitions by default:
Half goes to extROM
Half goes to persistant storage
Pre WM5 the memory map looked like this:
PRE WM5 - MEMORY MAP
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
...................| Storage (Installed Program Files, My Docs etc
128MB RAM.| Programs (running apps)
...................| Pocket PC OS (i.e. running state)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
32MB Flash / CPU..| System ROM (i.e. where the ROM .nbf goes) (/Windows folder?)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
16MB Flash DOC.| extROM (hidden by default. Contains vendor specific apps / hard reset - system startup)
16MB Flash DOC.| Persistant Storage (/Storage folder on pre WM5)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pre WM5 pocketPC versions allowed you to dynamically select the amount
of (non-persistant) storage / Program space via the memory applet. Obviously
a hard reset would lose any programs installed into this RAM area of memory. Also the file system had a /Storage folder so you knew where to put impotant files that a hard reset wouldn't wipe out.
Things have all changed with WM5. Thus: (Based on c_shekhar 3.50a ROM)
WM5 - MEMORY MAP
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
...................| 37MB Programs (running apps)
...................| 40MB RAMDisk Storage (Non persistant storage /RAMdisk folder)
128MB RAM.| 24MB PagePool (PocketPC OS Cache ares (?))
...................| 27MB Pocket PC OS (i.e. running state)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
32MB Flash / CPU | System ROM (i.e. where the ROM .nbf goes) (/Windows folder?)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
16MB Flash DOC.| extROM (hidden by default. Contains vendor specific apps / hard reset - system startup)
16MB Flash DOC.| Persistant Storage (14MB Formatted space)**
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
** WM5 no longer has a /Storage folder. Now /My Document /Program Files etc
reside in this persistant area
Obviously one benefit to this re-arrangement is that a hard reset does not wipe
out your installed program, assuming you don't FORMAT STORAGE in the WM5 hard reset screen.
If you are using c_shekhar's ROM then the extROM area is not used. In fact its
probably is sitting there invisible to you with the old pre WM5 vendor apps wasting space. There are tools to make this 16MB partition visible and merge it into the existing 16MB DOC partition to give you 32MB of persistant storage.
Instructions >here<
To check how much storage space you have:
Start>>Settings>>System Tab>>Memory
Storage Total will be circa 14.60MB for standard Install
Storage Total will be circa 30.53MB for merged extROM modification
There are also ways to change the size of the PagePool and RAMdisk but they are not discussed here. Search for c_shekhar + PagePool + RAMdisk

Sorry to ask you silly questions... I am a newbie about PDA. And I stil didn't understand clearly concerning why extROM exist in PDA.
1. What is the real function extROM ?
2. I read from your writing, If I used c_shekhar rom it means extROM doesn't have any function anymore. Is it true ?
3. What are the risks if I merge extROM to storage ?
I hope you would like to be kind to explained this for me.

...again I could be wrong here, and c_shekhar would know more about his ROM, but I think the general idea was:
1. XDA Manufacturer (i.e. HTC) provides main system ROM i.e. the pocketpc OS
2. The network supplier, or distributer (e.g. O2) provide the extROM ROM
Then when you hard boot the OS loads and autoruns and installs the branded
applications from the extROM to give you a clean branded install after a hard boot.
The extROM is readonly and invisible so you don't mess it up and can always
get back to the standard installation O2 or other supplier provided in the box.
My understanding is it is only used during a hard boot to install branded apps.
If you decide to install a ROM like c_shekhar's then he installs all the software
you need into the main system ROM. He doesn't use extROM to provide any
other applications that would install on a hard boot. In fact I assume he
takes out any call to the autorun in extROM which is why there are no app loads
when you hard boot his ROMs.
So you have a choice. Leave extROM alone and let 16MB of nonvolatile flash
rom sit there with O2 apps you'll probably never use again. Or, merge it into
the 16MB of storage space and get circa 32mb or storage.
There are always risks from flashing a pda device and messing about with flash
memory, especially from a non-official source. But then there are huge benefits from
c_shekhar providing us with a fantastic WM5 ROM that we otherwise wouldn't
have.
Hope this is correct and helpful.

Wrong thread to be asking in. But SD slot works ok on my XDA with 3.50a.40CS
I'd suggest you go back to an official ROM version and verify its not a hardware fault.

Good Sutdy and informations for the newbees. appriciations for sawyer_family. There exists the autorun program for installing the third party S/Ws and configurations at the time of hard reset developed by buzz. But, I have not provided it in the ROM. It can install the S/Ws and configurations from the resrve space into the RAM just like it used to be with the ExtROM. Here the advantage is that ExtROM can be placed on the Storage card. Like I am using it on my device to install the third party S/Ws and all the stuff at the time of hard reset. I have placed all these stuff in folder called "Storage Card/ExtROM". May be I provide it in my next release If people require. ......

Thany you sawyer_family, you help me much to understand this topic.
hello,
i installed PDAVIET with 1.14 radio rom, BUT : my pocket became very
slow. with spb pocket plus and sbp dairy avv ram is only 12-13 mb. any ideas why ???
i am with PDAVIET rom 2.01.08PV, radio 1.14 ext rom 1.30.176 and my ram memory is not over 13mb why ???? please help me. whats the meaning: ext rom: unlocked ??? 10x in advance
* try to disable the plugins, check if that speeds up the device.
* Check if you have the latest updates for the programs you mentioned.
Ext. Rom Unlocked means you can use the extra space, about 10MB, for your own files, instead of ROM only files.

re
i use the latest versions of sbp dairy 2 and spb pocket plus 3. another apps which i use are: aek keybord and resco kbd. thats all. after soft reset memory is about 25mb, after launching and closing some apps - like PIE, expolorer etc... memory decrease to 10-12mb and cant increase anymore. also i tried to use hibernate app, but it makes around 800-900kb free mem.
please help ? what to do ?
and how to unlock my ext rom ???
10x in advance friends
The 2.01.08 PV ROM is the fastest Crossbow ROM I've ever used , what's the version are you using ?
Hi All,
I am trying to source the latest and best Radio, CE ROM, and EXT Rom for my XDA Exec G4 64Mb.
I have updated to a new WM6.1 ROM but yet the O2 Ext ROM remains untouched and auto runs after a reset which crashes the device.
So what is the best way to completly erase the XDA, and what is the best ROM, Radio and EXT Rom available for a G4 64Mb, which is what I think I have details below.
The Flash chip says it is 128MB and the ram 64Mb so is this a G4 64MB as I only have 39Mb free storage???
Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks Again
I'm expecting a fixed 6.1 in the next few days - Snapvue in the Darkforce one was a bit buggy but the rom is fine when it's disabled (just like wm6, but with threaded SMS, nice but not amazing, and a zoom function in IE).
As for the Radio version, I, along with many, prefer 1.17, check out the latest discussion on this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366263
And for the ExtROM? Well, unlocked and empty of course
I took an empty extrom from an old ROM and it works great every time.
Good luck!
Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I have updated my radio to 1.18 and also unlocked and emptied my ExtROM.
My problem is that after flashing the CE ROM and Radio I am still getting the offical O2 boot screen?
When I empty the ext rom and then reflash shoud I have more free storage available, also from the sepcs I posted above am I right to say I have a G4 64Mb XDA?

Boot screen
Hi,
I know you can change the boot screen, my question is more related to why it was not changed after flashing with new rom and radio...?
Also can someone confirm that since I deleted the contents of the ExtROM should that give me more free space for storage when I reflash with a WM6.1 rom?
Thanks Again,

Flashing a new ROM doesn't necessarily change the bootskin, when you flash an official ROM (e.g. one from T-Mobile say), it'll most likely flash the bootskin.
As for ExtROM, you need to flash an empty one, then run a program on the uni that unlocks and unhides the ExtROM, which will appear as another storage medium in file explorer.
My Latest Official Flavour Rom
Tabish Rom v3.3.6.1 is here. The OS core is based on an extract and port from latest official HTC release (Opal ROM) which is closest to the HTC Touch sys folder. Base ROM remains 2.20.456.1B for OEM part which is the latest HTC rom for Elfs. This ensures 0 bugs, fast stable Rom which is VERY much what an official HTC Touch WM6.1 Rom would have looked like had they released one for us. Ofcourse mine would still have the advantage of being BIG STORAGE
Features/Updates from Tabish v2.x to v3.3.6.1 Rom
1. Wm6.1 (19971 Base from OPAL)
2. Esmertec JBed updated to 20080610.2.1
3. Default Pagepool to be Elf and Elfin friendly (though dsixda's EXCELLENT PP changer attached)
4. Task Manager updated to 2.1
5. HTC Random Access for contacts added.
Changes included from 3.3.6.1
6. .NETCF 3.5 (upgraded from 2.0) (Some people swear speed improvement, plus compatibility with new programs like Adavanced Config 3.x)
7. Bluetooth Activesync problem fixed
8. MSN connection fixed
9. Full Cities list (or atleast I think this is most complete list available)
I have also now included RUU files with download for people who are new to this.
PAGEPOOL and Memory
Rom is released with default 8mb PP setting but dsixda's excellent universal PP Changer is attached. I would like to give a disclaimer at this point that though the PP Changer works well with the ROM but I am NOT responsible for any damage caused by using the PP changer or my ROM for that matter.
Rom works very fast and very stable with 4mb PP with Elfs. Memory after first boot is as follows (for Elf with the default 8mb PP)
Storage
=======
Total: 47.94mb
In Use: 6.26mb
Free: 41.68mb
Program
=======
Total: 47.65mb
In Use: 25.44mb
Free: 22.21mb
But program memory quickly drops to
In Use: 28.39mb
Free: 19.26mb
after Cube is loaded in memory.
If you want more, you should shift to 4mb Pagepool but memory management for this build is very good and I have included the task manager screenshot below that shows 91% memory used while Audio manager, JBed, IE, SMS, connection manager and File explorer were open. For the record I was listening to a song, connected over wifi, downloading Opera Mini 4.1 on PIE and running Opera 4.1 on Jbed which was browsing facebook. I had the threaded SMS open and so was connection manager and file explorer (and ofcourse the screen capture program was in memory) AND cube was loaded n memory and I still had about 4mb free AND all this with the 8mb PP so you can imagine how it would be with 4mb PP.
Recommendations and Misc.
I strongly recommend installing the excellent IPL 2.27 and USPL 2.28 by htctouchp with this ROM. Its also recommended that you softboot and restart the phone once after first install before using it full time (works best after 1 normal restart)
Also I have attached a cab file for those who want to disable thread sms feature for whatever reasons.
Discussions, comments for this Rom starts on Page 10

DOWNLOAD & DONATION
Before you download and install the Rom think that if HTC offered an Official Wm6.1 upgrage for $5 for our HTC Elf/Elfins would you get it? What about $1? If yes, consider making a contribution for my work after you have tested and used the ROM because this is as close to an HTC Official Wm6.1 Rom as anyone could hope to get for our Elf/Elfins (and countless hours went into this)

What kind of memory leak are you talking about? How long until you run out of memory?
When I reset it in bootloader mode it says SPL 1.11.0000 - Am I concerned with this possible leak?
I know that memory tends to diminish in time, but since I installed the auto-hibernate tool, it's better (even though it still runs down).

Zeflash if you have 1.11 SPL then you are probably using the 1.11.707 version rom which does not include the new keypad etc or one of the cooked roms.
Memory runs down on all Pocket PCs but with the new 2.20 series there was a leak where the memory would disappear for no reason till it got to low memory warning in matter of seconds specially after opening IE.
This ROM is intended for people who want the original ROM feeling, speed and stability with the new keypad included and want additional storage over the measly 25 mb offered by original Roms and are sick of the memory problems.
Regards
Ok.
Just a note, I believe it's quite anormal to provide a SPL in a cooked ROM. Usually it's only the system segment, sometimes the radio is included. Anyway. I'm fine with my SPL.

The older SPL is the actual fix for the 2.20 Roms and thats why its included with my original Rom and seperately for those who dont want to reflash the whole OS but want to get rid of the memory problem can just flash the SPL part that I have uploaded
For all those who try please give feedback

I am currently using it with a 6mb Pagepool using the attached Activesync PP change (was originally at 8mb) and so currently I have
Storage:
Total: 49.18 mb
In Use: 5.12 mb (after installing a few programs. was more after immediate flash)
Free: 44.13mb
Program:
Total: 49.72 mb
In Use: 27.43 mb
Free: 22.29 mb
After leaving it on for DAYS it runs down to 19.81 mb but I can easily launch Audio manager playing mp3s over bluetooth stereo, Wifi connected running IE and Opera mini 4.1 in Cloudyfa's Esmertec JBed and still have a 1-2 megs ram free...
good work i get the same RAM config using the old 1.17.. ROM the touch Diamond keyboard. But will try your ROM have been long waiting for a good original ROM.
Thanks, very nice work, i am using ShadoW_2.1 WWE and after aplaying PP 4 mb Psgepool
I have:
Storage
Total: 57.18
In use: 25.18
Free: 32.00
Program

In use: 29.12
Free: 22.55
Working with SPB Mobile Shell V2.1.0.3363 with diamond skin, fast and smooth
I gess it suits for me.
One thing, can i flash fimmware to my htc if i have Mac OS X? Cuz i dont know how. Or in Server 2008 i simply dont have active stink.
pagepool change to 4mb. works fine to my elf. with 21mb free program for stable.
note: i have installed some games(4 games) with apps like opera, diamond keyboard, srs wow, mobile nero, htc stream & wisbar advance 3.

Cloudyfa is one of the most talented cooks EVER so of course his work is VERY good. This rom is more for people who like original roms. This is an original rom just with ext.rom removed for big storage and patched spl to fix memory leak experienced on Elf with the 2.20.xxx Elf/Elfin Roms

Thanks for the feedback
I prefer 6mb PP cuz I think it works faster than 4mb PP for things like touch scrolling through programs etc. And I like HTC keypad better than the diamond keyboard. But whatver you prefer, I am just glad you are using my ROM

Yeah original roms ROCK in terms of speed and stability. This SPL fix can also be used with the Australian Official HTC 2.20.710.2B ROM or any other 2.20.xxx Elf/Elfin ROM for that matter but if you get sick of running out of STORAGE memory as well, flash my full rom which is exactly like the original rom with just 1 difference that it will have 40+ mb free and if you miss the programs in ext.rom then ZIP is attached with ext.rom included cabs

Thank you so much. This is totally original ROM flavour with no add-ins. Tell me how it works out for you. For all those who dont like ROM's original midlet manager, I am attaching here Cloudyfa's excellent Esmertec JBed that seems to work without hitch on all platform roms I have tried
