On the menu bar to the left of the EV icon there is a huge upward pointing triangle icon. What is it? It appeared after I upgraded to wm 6.1.
I wondered the same thing forever! It only appeared when I used certain WM6 (not .1) ROMs. I privately decided it was product-placement for Egyptian tourism.

That large triangle is telling you that you are roaming. Since you just upgraded your system, you probably need to update your towers. On Alltel and Verison, you dial *228 and select option 2.
dalepl,
Thanks for your reply. I called vzw b4 seeing it and they told me to dial *228 and choose option 1. That corrected my problem.
I just came here to post the solution and saw your post. After reading your solution I wondered what option 2 was. So for the hell of it, I redialed *228 and sure enough the robot lady told me to choose option 2 to update the "Roaming Capabilities".
So in summary:
(on vzw)
Option 1: "Program your phone"
Option 2: "Update your Roaming Capabilities"
Sprint Tower Re-Sync
For Sprint users its *18
is there a way to do this on the fido network in canada?
looks like no.
too bad cause it's driving me crazy and some apps won't work because they think i'm "roaming"

I was downloading a file on my TYTN from the microsoft site "framework 2.0"-something... using the phones network GPRS on "G" mode. The download took a long time and then it blocked the device. After a soft-reset, I could see the signal bars, but no "G" sign, just a "no connection" sign. Can't do/recieve call, sms or gprs... When I enter a 3G zone, all comes back to normal. But in G zones my phone is useless.
But if I'm on a 3G zone, and I chose the phone option to just use G, it connects fine! the G sign appears and I have no problems.
I upgraded to the last radio version, upgraded to WM6 and the trouble continues.
about 2 months ago I had a broken screen and change it myself. The phone worked fine for I month after that, I think it's not related but I opened the phone again just to see if I could had done something to cause this, but saw nothing wrong or burnt.
I've searched the forum and found nothing like this, can someone help me?
Thanks.
Sorry, I posted this in here too becouse this could probably happen in every model
Hello? noone? Help please.
Try clicking on the Signal Strength icon (those bars near the antenna icon), go Settings -> Band. And check AUTO there.
nope.
If I'm a 3G zone, and "band" is in "auto", I get 3G of course. If I'm just on a G area the problem arrises.
If I'm on a 3G area and "band" is set to "GSM" I get the G icon and the phone works fine...
Flash new radio upgrade.
I allready said I did that. no sccess.
Hi all,
I know this is probably a strange request and so I'll have to give a bit of background. Recently I changed my mobile provider to 3. 3 have their own telephone coverage in certain areas and if you are outside those areas you go on roaming with Telstra. The issue is 3 charges huge $$ when roaming on Telstras network for data (voice and SMS is fine).
My question is that my TP obviously knows when I'm roaming as it displays the service provider as 'Roaming'. Is there a program that will stop my data (and only data) use when I change over to the 'Roaming' service and activate again when I am in the 3 network?
Thanks for you help!
Trent
Hi, another aussie 3 user here...
I agree with the TS as this is one of the major problem we as 3mobile user face, is there any kind soul out there that could help us with this as my knowledge on PDA is limited.. Thanks for any1 who is willing to help in advance.
With the Sprint TP, I can go to
Settings>Phone>Services>Roaming
and set an option called "Data roam guard" that allows me to choose whether or not data connections will be allowed while roaming. I'm not sure if this option is available for you, but give it a try.
I myself would like to have an automated function for this. Until then I will have to manually switch to my dummy data connection.
Normally it doesn't connect on roaming.
and if it will, it asks first.
isn't this the case with you?
I have an app called NoData
Works really well and lets you enable/disable any data connections

I know about the NoData. However, you still have to enable/disable data connection manually. I'd like to have it automatically disabled when I am roaming.
For example my IM client (QIP) does not ask me whether it should connect or not. So it is very easy to have an "accident" with data connection :-(
I'm another Three user in Australia, looking for something like this as well. I often use my phone while on a tram and it might switch from 3G to Roaming while I'm browsing the web. I'd like for it to warn me so I don't download heaps while roaming (I think it's $1.65 per MB or something crazy like that).
Hi, another 3 Australia user here...and yes, I've been waiting on this sort of function for years now.
Part of the problem here is that 3's "roaming" is not actual roaming in the traditional sense. Normally, the phone detects a roaming signal when on a foreign network and displays a roaming indicator (looks like a little triangle) at the top of the screen. You'll find this is the case if you ever take your phone overseas and use International Roaming. Telstra's network does not give you this signal, and hence even the few roaming aware apps we have (e.g. pocket outlook) don't detect when you're on Telstra's network and turn off their automatic schedules.
The best way I could think of to do this automatically is with an app that detects either Telstra's network ID values (the phone detects these and translates them to the text "Roaming" at the top right of today, much as it translates the real value "3Telstra" to plain old "3" - 3 and Telstra share the 2100MHz network in a joint venture, much as Vodafone and Optus share theirs...you will see the real value if ever you use a non-3 rom) or the network connection type and then runs that NoData app (I haven't seen that before...credit to the guy who posted it).
I've often though some sort of even responder app would be useful. Something like Gyrator, except that read network status instead of physical hardware status. Anyone know of anything like this?
Then you could set up something like:
* On detect EDGE/GSM switch off data connections
* On detect HSDPA/3G switch on data connections
OR
* On detect network ID of Telstra's GSM network switch off data
* On detect network ID of 3's/Telstra's 2100MHz 3G network switch on data
Look at phoneAlarm.

My HTC TP says 'H' up the top when I'm in 3 coverage and 'E' when I'm roaming. Just near the top it says '3' when I'm in a Three area or 'Roaming' when I'm not...
Don't you have the same phone? What does yours say?

I think that perhaps paying 15+ pounds (around AU$40) just to switch off a data connection is a bit steep...any other suggestions around?

My point exactly. You will not see the real roaming indicator in Australia as you never actually roam here. While three call it "roaming" when your phone is on Telstra, the way they have set it up prevents the phone from knowing this is the case so the few roaming aware programs will not be able to adjust for it.
The phone shows G/E when on Telstra as Telstra provide a GSM/EDGE network. It shows 3G/H when on Three's network as Three are providing a 3G/HSDPA network. Hence, you can work out if you're roaming by looking at this even though it's not actually a roaming indicator.
If you look at your home screen though you will see either a "3" in the top right corner of the clock or "Roaming". That's what I was talking about before. It's not a roaming indicator either; it simply shows the network name (with a translation applied from the actual network ID in this case).
thanks caeci11ius, I'm glad you could explain this is better detail then my original statement. I am presuming that this form of roaming and charge to customers is quite rare.

You wanted a program which can automatically switch band when roaming.
This is the only program I know which can do that.
Program to disable Data when E or G is shown on taskbar

This is Exactly What I need Also. I have looked everywhere? I Dont believe anyone else has come across this issue before and has written something to fix it.
Need a program to detect when the Phone is in 3 or H area (displayed at top) and disable DATA ONLY when G or E is displayed. My work around at the moment is to select HSDPA only connection but this makes the Voice Calls dropout whenever I cannot recieve Three's Network. Can anyone help. There is many people who would be in this same boat.

hello at all
what ist this for an icon on the left side of the USB icon?
I never see this bevor. i know whats the icon for, but theres no way to make the icon invisible.
I flasht a new rom, and there is it too.
3 roms i tryed, on 2 is this icon.
i dont like it, because it was never there
is there a way to make this invisible?
i hope you can help me
The Line 1 icon represents that the Line 1 on your SIM card is the currently active line.
The actual Service Name is called 2-in-1 Sim Service. See HERE for more info. Though that article is quite old, it seems many providers now support 2-in-1 Sim Service for Business customers that wish to have a Business Number AND a Personal Number all on one device.
If you'd like to remove the icon, I'd recommend talking to your provider about the service to see if you can disable it.
the strange thing is, i have this icon only on 2 roms.
On the other roms i have this icon not. I never change
any options at my provider and have not 2 nummbers,
i only flash a other rom.
thanks forn the help
Hello,
How are you all? I have been a lurker in the past but this is my first post. I see things on the LG expo but nothing on the Verizon LG Fathom (VS750) so I decided to post my questions here.
I recently won a new in box LG Fathom from a local raffle. It was locked to Verizon. I have AT&T and I decided to unlock it as it does have at least one of the AT&T 3G bands (along with quad band GSM and CDMA) I tried two well known online code unlockers and they failed to find the code. I then called Verizon to see if I could buy or obtain the unlock code and they said I had to be a current customer in good standing for 60 days. So having nothing to lose I gave it to a friend to put on their account to get it unlocked for me and with in 5 mins of being on the plan, Verizion gave them the code and it was unlocked.
Phone works well for calls, texts and with wifi. However here are two problems I am having with this phone.
1. I am not able to put in AT&T WAP settings. On the top of the connections screen it says the following "This connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified.
Is there anyway around this? Can a new ROM be flashed to give me access to new settings? I see nothing on the LG Fathom (WinMo 6.5)
2. Phantom Voice message indicator. There is no voice message in the system. I have called and left new voice messages and then deleted them the indicator still is there, I have soft and hard reset the phone and left the battery out and the voice message indicator stays put. I have made sure the VM settings are for AT&T and still the VM indicator stays put. I have did a full erase and restore and it stay put.
Is there a solution to getting rid of a phantom voice message indicator? Is this a WinMo 6.5 issue? Is this a product of using a Verizon phone on GSM(the phone was unlocked by code from Verizon so it should mean it is good to go) Is this something I am going to have to live with and check my VM regularly?
I am only into this phone for $20 (the cost of tickets) and a pineapple( a gift to my friend for taking the time to get it unlocked) so as long as it gets and makes calls and texts I am happy
Any help or tips would be most helpful
Thanks much
Hi.
1. Don't worry about this. Verizon settings cannot be changed but you don't need to use that settings by default too. To configure the AT&T settings, you can choose 2 paths.
1.You can find a cab and the cab will configure everything for you. That cab should be like that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337481 look at the bottom of the page.
2. You can configure it by yourself manualy. To do this, You should fist tap to menu, than settings > Connections > Connections, then tap "Add a new modem connection". After configuring that "new modem connection", you should go to "Advanced" tab from the same place than tap "Select Network" button and choose your confured network settings.
2. If I understand correctly, you want to erase Voice Message line from the home screen right? To do that you should install this cab to your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497232 than disable the voice massage section from this installed application.
Hope I could help you a little
Hello,
my service provider displays the roaming triangle always on the top of the screen. Even if I am not connected to the 3G/Data.
When I checked it with another provider, using a different sim card, it dissapeared.
Does anyone have any idea or a solution? I selected the "don't roam" also, it is always there and in front of tiles and programs its really annoying.
I don't mind if it's always hidden. Thank you!
maybe a registry tweak?
I had a similar problem with the call forwarding icon. all i did was enable call forwarding and then disabling it and restart. the icon went away.
Thanks but is not my solution... I guess a registry edit will give the trick
Dumb question -- Did you try a battery pull?
Also, maybe in your area you're always on an alternate provider's network. Some cellular companies sign agreements to carry each others traffic. I'm not sure if the phone can be programmed to still use these alternates in "Don't Roam" mode.
I think my company works like this. So i thought of a registry tweak
My phone gets the triangle allot, when I hazy evo I wouldn't . What gives? I think its a bug....
Sent from my T7575 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
that means evo is buggy...
