WM6 ROM Postings - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Is there any possible way that we can create a thread that pertains ONLY to ROM releases, rather than the comments and issues that are involved with them? It's somewhat irritating to filter through 1000's of posts, just to find rom releases. It would be much more convenient to only have a single area with releases.
Does anyone agree?

Uhmmm, yes I do agree. Thats why I made it...its a sticky at the top of this forum...called ROM Ratings, Reviews.....yada yada...its got some of my impressions of the ROMs, and the links to em.

hey ashasaur!!!!
POLL....... Does it must be a Thread where we can said everybody to search before post????
If you think that YESSSSS!!!!!! so please post behind and type YES!!!
if not... you are one of this guys that dislikes to read.

I didn't understand a word of what you said. I think some conjugations got lost in translation.
Nonetheless, I saw the rom ratings and programs thread, but it still had a bunch of babble after the first couple posts... then it turns into yet another yap fest. I'm not trying to be a ****, I'm just giving a bit of constructive criticizm. I understand there are quite a few people putting their heart and souls into this, and it's greatly appreciated. But, it can be a bit tough to navigate and find what you want.

But... so... please post your "constructive" criticizm thoughts on that thread cause this kind of threads makes too hard to find that roms and begins the problem you are talking about, and to get answer, and dont seems like a fool, and to be heard i mean...

I still can't understand what you're trying to say. It's as if someone threw a bunch of words into a bag that dealt with ROMS and Criticizm and tossed them into a paragraph.
The reason I made this post was because the other was long, and I wanted to address the fact that it was TOO LONG. After a certain point, the ROM post was no longer functional for what its specific purpose was. For me to post in that thread, would be going against why I wrote this, and why you ran your mouth in the first place.
The ROM list thread needed to be locked to only admins or the owner. Have a different thread for ROM recommendations to post on to that LOCKED thread, so you don't have casual conversation and questions thrown into it. This "Constructive" criticizm is meant for admins and for others to ponder, so it's easier to navigate. Unless you have those powers, please quite pissing about this ****ing post and do something worthwhile. I'm not here to waste my time with some moron who has a broken translator program.. I just want to point out that there MAY BE A BETTER WAY to assist people if you would quit arguing with me.

Lordy, what is it with all of these new users goin off like this? A trend begins to form!

Can you parent up and take a look at the legitimate question I asked before having someone jump on me, only because they had no idea what I was trying to accomplish? Because I've been on this site since June, and haven't had anything to say except for a recommendation, I don't have the right to defend myself against someone?
I didn't ask any other questions, because flashing and creating roms isn't exactly rocket science. The point I was getting across, only dealt with the way they were posted on the site.
Please, tell me you wouldn't feel offended if the same words were said to you, when you were trying to help and have a tiny bit more experience than rom building. I find the site interesting and think it's cool that everyone's creating their own. I also have respect for the admins, because I did this type of work years ago. The thing I don't have respect for, is some kid telling me to do a search in a condescending manner, just because he's posted enough garbage on a website to consider him a "Senior Member" though he obviously hides behind admins like the little chihuahua you see in cartoons, jumping around the big bulldog.
I'm through with this post, and I'm sure you're pleased about it. You can post after me, knowing that the pansy (and probably incomprehensible) comment you leave will be without a rebuttle. This isn't at "Ashasaur", and I'm sure he'll understand what I'm getting at.
Just because an old veteran in programming decides to mess with his cell phone and help some admins with their website layout, doesn't mean he should be treated with disrespect because he JUST created a user on the site. It's like ****ing Juan Valdez walking into Starbucks and asking for a black coffee, only to be laughed at because he didn't know they didn't serve it.

oh ye ya boy luv the way you bashed him ,these seniors think cos we new to this forum we durh or somthang and btw with your post i totaly agree

i would like to have a wm6.1 kaiser rom

hi,guys,
i would like to have a kaiser wm6.1 rom,
which rom u recommand?
I recommend you read the sticky at the top of this forum. Then do a search on WM 6.1 roms, there are lots. Then when you understand the process you then flash away. See the links in my sig...they will help get you started as well.
Each person likes different things in ROMS, so it is very subjective. You should have done some research before posting...
Good luck.

I used to love this forum. I now have the hardest time just peeking in.
I have read the multi page thread about what to do about the redundant threads and none of the suggestions have been implemented (except the heavy hammer by Kyphur). alas, with the fact that our phones are now so common, we have more people than ever trying to flash. I miss the days when the XDA was one of only a few devices that people used and you cuold only find 50-60 users online at any given time.
Andrewsitu, you are one of countless junior members who want to start flashing but can't take a few moments to look around. In some ways I can't blame you, since there are SOOO many threads, many pointless and redundant, it can be daunting. But it is a chicken and the egg dilema.
Maybe we need a senior member forum only so that we can actually be productive. This is nuts. I really feel like checking out . . .

Ditto here. It did help us alot during the Beta testing.
I don't think you could just limit it to Senior Member status though as some people could just post useless info to get their post count up in order to make SM status.

Easily handled if the title was bestowed, rather than just automatic. mods could review and either grant or put them in pending status until useful posts actually accounted for the needed 100. Puts more work on the the mods in some ways, but lessens it in others (fewer closed threads). I'd also have any new thread from anyone with less than 50 posts approved for non-redundancy by the mods.
I just really miss this place and I just seem to get more and more frustrated everytime I log in. And in some ways I can't blame the NooBs, because if aI saw all these threads I'd be spinning and wanting to just take the easy way out. It would be nice to have a senior member lounge or something . . .

Once you've done that, you need to post in the right forum. Since we don't have a forum called "I've recently had my brain smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick...so please hold my hand and answer the same questions over and over and please change my diaper while you're at it" you'll just have to use the Kaiser forum. That's "Kaiser", not "Kaiser upgrading etc". Let me know if I'm going too fast for you. I don't want to have to start over...that would irritate me and I don't think any of us want that. The upgrading forum is what chefs and packagers use to work on, release, and fix ROMs and cabs and such. Experienced members also use it to provide feedback to these same guys (and girls). Think you got all that? I hope so. Because if I have to address this with you again, I'm gonna get mean.
Now, to actually address your question (because I'm in a good mood today...no...really):
Are you serious?? Do you actually expect to get a usable answer from a question like this? Can you even fathom how many different answers you'll get and how many different reasons justifying those answers?? No, you can't count that high. It's more than fingers and toes. What you are asking for is an opinion so you don't have to think. Well here's my opinion...
You can't have my opinion. It's mine. Go make your own.

Personally, I'd recommend looking through the "Kaiser Upgrading" forum for all ROM releases with "WM6.1" in the title. Then look at the list the Chef's provided of what's in the ROM and think "Do I use all those things?", then look again and think "Have I got installation cabs for the others I use that aren't there?". If the answer is "yes" to both, flash it as that's your perfect ROM. If the answer to either is "no", then note what was missing/extra and look at the next ROM. When you're done go to whichever ROM closely fitted your needs and flash it.
Oh, and for the love of (insert deity of your choice) install Hard-SPL first, then a WM6.1 Radio ROM after and don't expect your hand to be held by others in this forum until you've proven you're willing to learn the basics. Once you've proven you're willing to try, you'll be amazed how friendly and helpful everyone is.

Not a bad idea - it's been floating around since the Hermes days and probably earlier. BUT... would you like to sift through the 593872 (and rising) members to see which of us seniors actually qualify as useful.
In my 440+ posts some have been helpful, some fun and some flaming but NONE qualify me as a developer (the main reason for this forum). Would I be excluded?
The only real way to sort this out is to let the guys who actually run the site decide what they want, make new rules if necessary and then we live with it.

When I first saw this thread, I was wondering if u show up yourself here.

To the mods and Admin and general users ...

I am seeing more and more dis-respectful replies to newbies then ever before, and it is getting old, all this does is run off potential new comers to this site who might be the next great cooker and spreads a not so good rep about this site
at the same time I see some mods have be respectful to others in there sigs. I think this should become policy across the forum period and those that are rude and disrespectful in their reply should get a vacation to let them know this is not to be tolerated IMO
This site is about growth and interest in these toys of ours, not about ripping newbies who may ask a question that maybe have been asked many times over, so what, why not just post a link to the search and to the Wiki and say welcome to the forums , instead of bashing them? It would leave a better taste in the newbs mouths and they might become a contributor in the future.
Also think about this, just how many of you cookers have something in your sig asking for a cup of coffee ? or Donate to XDA or Donations graciously accepted. Well if a newbie is made to feel welcomed and comfortable here , They are more then likely going leave you a little something.
Me , If I notice a rom cooker being rude, they are not very likely going to get anything from me even if they had something great and useful.
I just replied to a newbie that asked a simple question, but not before someone posted a B.S. reply, I instead answered it with something useful and promoted the search engine at the same time
This did two things, first the newbies was made to feel welcomed and also if someone was to search the same question, they would find a reasonable answer.
BTW B.S. replies just screw up the search results forcing newbies just ask questions instead of finding answers.
Flame away if you want or become part of the solution .
i agree,
there are times that newbs do need help. some of those who i have pointed in the right direction have tried to search, but either search the wrong thing or don't know what they are looking for.
it does work two ways and some of the mods and senior members are to be commended for their help. ( i can think of about 10 folks who go out of their way to help as many as possible and never rip a newb)
those who are helped are more likely to help others.
I find it often takes longer to explain how to use the search facility properly to yield useable results than it takes to answer the specific question, but there is no excuse for rude replies, if you don't like what you see simply move on rather than posting an offensive reply - Mike
Here is a good example of what I am talking about,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403829
This reply by kspirit did nothing to help this user ,
No , nothing like that runs on the tilt..

.
its these kind of responses that need to be curtailed.
Even though a mod did respond , he/she did nothing regarding the above users response. All this does is give the impression that this behavior is condoned .
I am not knocking the Moderator (I do find him to be very helpful) but they do have a huge influence on how others act on this site, and by not informing this above user that these types of replies are not helpful or uncalled for) they are giving the impression that it is okay.
Mods & Admin , what do you all think ? Am I off track here ?
Just wanted to add this:
If the mods were to take the time to edit the titles like this one " New AT&T Tilt Phone - Help" to something like this...Will software like HTC Home, Mobile Shell, Pocket Informant work on both the tilt & 8525?. or something along those lines.....
This would help with search engine results, Yea its abit more work for the mods to do this but it will help greatly in producing more viable search results .
Just a thought...
i think what drives some ppl to be rude is the fact that the ppl who decided to ask a repeated question were told that they have to search for an existing answer before asking a new question, and that they decided not to do that and just post a new one, i think both are mistaken here, and the one with the question brought it on themselves. i really don't like rude answers, but!

why would I want to donate or promote this site in any form if all I got is ripped on ? hmmm

This would yield better results .
by "told" i meant that for example in the kaiser forum, the only sticky there is titled "**BEFORE YOU POST START HERE**" and it says "Read and search before posting. Reply to an existing thread before creating a new thread. Redundant threads will be closed." so, if somebody decides that he/she wants to just ignore this, he/she brought it on themselves. i don't do bad language, or encourage it, but, sometimes some ppl can be really so lazy to even do a search
Just my personal opinion....
I've only been here for a few months and I have to say, I've seen more useless threads then ever before! Now, don't get me wrong, I love to help, and do all the time, but at some point, you see a junior on their first post asking something like, "How do I uninstall an app?", or "How do I turn the phone off?" So at some point of seeing these threads, someone will be a bit frustrated and point them to the search and wiki fetaures located on the top bar instead of a full answer. I fully understand your point, but like I said, these members who join just for a simple answer then after 10 minutes ask why nobody is helping can aggrivate all of us users who come here for new information on a daily basis. Especially when they start a thread, get an answer, and never return.
Look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404065
Now in this post, this user was looking for a specific dialer, and of course it's impoosible to search for an image, but I did help. Actually at first, I was a bit mad at the fact they posted the image, but didn't ask in the thread they got the photo from, then realized the image wasn't from here. But after I saw that, I tried to give some info on it, but I can't spend time looking for something they want, but I can help, so I did.
I think I'm done typing , but I'll say this, when I first joined, actually being my first forum, I had a bunch of questions, I didn't feel a need to post a thread for one simple question. I actually spent about a week after work searching and going through a bunch of pages looking for info, and I found a lot!
Also, a suggestion, I asked this in the SPAM thread, how about putting a block on junior users poting new threads? It would prevent SPAM and these simple question threads.
It seems that mods and Admin are strangely silent regarding this topic......wonder why..
I don't think they aren't responding for any unknown reason, this topic has been discussed so many times, there is no interest in tackling this issue anymore.
Just wanted to say that F2504x4 put the problem very articulately and I totally agree with him. Pointing out a mistake (such as not using the search facility) need not be done in a rude and dismissive way.
I will just remind us that we were all noobs one day, and also that some people are more technically minded than others. What may seem to us a simple and trivial question is obviously not so for the one asking it.

They should be taking a interest in this.....if they are becoming numb to it , then they need to take a hard look at why they are a moderator, Sorry if this sounds harsh . Moderators are the leaders that others look to for guidance, they help set the tone of the community.
This is a great site, with a lot of great talent , but it will not take long before it becomes over shadowed with a darker side.
Continued growth is key to any forum and community , and running off new comers with not help with that.
Fact is you will always have newbs ignoring stickies and search engines , nothing will ever change that.
All this site can do is maintain a positive atmosphere , and continuing education to those that join .
So i ask again , what say you Admin and mods ?
Thank you pedmond for this , very well put.

Don't really think the issue is with Mods and Admin. I do see a lot of evidence of them cleaning up threads if they're getting out of hand and sorting out users that are really getting obnoxious. But the problem seems to be that certain people feel their post count is a license to have a go at the newer members. And certain new members seem to think the world is their private helpdesk and that the purpose of these forums is to instantly deal with their every need. Well in any large group you'll always get those that are unpleasant to deal with - that's life. There are just as many, maybe more, who're a real pleasure to deal with and try their best to help. I think if new members read the forum rules and were prepared to lurk a bit before posting, then they'd quickly get an idea of what types of questions to ask and how to get help.
So while I personally totally agree with your views on decent behaviour etc I don't think its an issue to get wound up about. If you can filter out some of the fluff, this site is still the best resource for our phones by far.
(But I've only got about 80 posts, so maybe I'll change my mind when I hit 100! )
What are the Mods/Admins supposed to do? Ban every user?
I often tell people to search for things when they have one post, and have a very stupid question with a blatant answer. When they do that, they don't deserve to be treated with a great amount of respect.
When someone who has evidently searched around, and has clearly tried to solve their own problems and then as a last resort asks for help, I'm far more inclined to be generous with my time, and try to help them.
Some people are obnoxious and post without searching at all, but the admins/mods can't go and ban people because they were once an idiot.

Wow what a way to start off a reply Ban every user ?
I think you should re read what has been stated, I did not hint or say ban anyone..but if that is what it takes to effect a change then maybe it should be considered but it should be directed at those that are creating a un-friendly and less then helpful place . IMO
First off I have no problem with someone being told to search, its how they are being told and some of the un-called for comments that are becoming more and more common and is the real problem, go read the example I posted earlier.
what do you consider a worthy response in this thread ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404065
As to the stupid questions , Idiots and respect, ahhh I thinks its way past beer thirty .

while I agree with a lot of what you said, In the example I gave , its even the low post count members that are posting these less then helpful responses, so that is telling me that this a is trend that is spreading and the bad thing is that a mod even replied in the thread, and did nothing about the response given, they only quoted part of my reply about searching.... ( I am still wondering why...)
Btw I only started this thread after a lot of reading and seeing this trend become more common place.
It's not about being against Noobies...
Too many come here from other sites for the wrong reason. Many of the questions that get jumped, closed & merged really should have been asked at the AT&T or other carrier support forums.
I'll quote this post of mine:
I think what a lot of people forget is that this is not a "make my phone neat & kewl" place.
As implied by the name this is technically a Developers forum/community.
Now what does that mean? Well first off it means that there is an expectation that if you are here then you want to customize your device but rather than just installing something that someone packaged you want to understand how it works and maybe even enhance it yourself.
When I first came here with a Blue Angel it was a different environment. PDA Phones were not embraced by the general public because of the expense and complexity (I paid over $400 for my BA). A $400 phone 4 years ago was expensive, today the Tilt is $300 after rebates but with inflation & the rise in the cost of other devices and the fact that there are other sources out there giving them away for $150 our neat bit of kit has become popular with mainstream users.
Now we have a flood of new users who are asking not "How can I do this myself" but more like "Give me the quick fix" without caring to understand the process. See if you read the threads then you get to experience the learning process, you see how the issues were investigated and confirmed. Then you get to watch the different attempts at resolution and learn why some failed while others worked. That is called Development.
The NooB backlash is coming from users who have walked in the development shoes and is directed mainly at those who don't care for the journey but just want the end result or destination.
As a Development Forum we are just as much (if not more) about the journey. I've read so many comments like "I don't have time to read all of the threads" or "I don't care how it works, just that it does". These very statements are contrary to the heart & soul of XDA-Devs and that is why the backlash is so strong.
Let me be very clear on this: IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE JOURNEY THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
XDA-Devs is about developers & hackers helping each other and working together to get the most out of our devices by understanding them better than most.
XDA-Devs is not about helping everyone who wants a "Kewl bit of kit" make their phone better than the guy next to him.
Now do we go kicking users off who never contribute anything, NO. We tolerate it to an extent. Where the toleration ends is when these users start diluting the usefulness of the forum by repeating the same questions over and over again.
You ask us to understand your position. Well if you want to benefit from our experience and time then I think it is only fair that you understand our position.

For Whom The Bell Tolls (thread for waiting Garmin's New ROM)

So there, I started a thread, hope you all happy to be here and quits polluting the ROM thread with rants and anxieties. Just trying to accomodate and vents the air a lil bit here, so please don't take everything too seriously either.
Let one by one speak their own piece of mind, since I can sense it's more than just the waiting that bothers some of you, sounds like something has quite off-course for quite some time, the tip of iceberg is getting larger for some reasons.
So let's chitchat here, maybe it would help many if they can speak their feelings and thinkings. I dunno.
My intention is only neutral, Garmin is a friend of mine, but not for too long I must admit. Yet I cannot agree that some are directing their feelings towards him alone. This is a big community, and we're supposed to collaborate and be helpful to each other with minimum prejudices. If one is considered wrong,it's our job to rectify things in positive and constructive manners.
So be it. Speak up. Mind your language though, we're adult here.
I would like the Mod to close this thread once the waiting is over. Thanks for your kind attention all. Cheers!

Not a completely useless thread, just in the wrong location. Word choice is important. Maybe consider some words that are not as harsh. I understand your point; however, the meaning gets lost sometimes because people take the strong words to mean that you are attacking them, even when you are not meaning to be
Hail Schizo,
Wonderful thought, my friend.
Maybe all chefs should start a deletable announcing thread and release the rom in a separate thread. Upon which the announce thread could then be deleted.
Then again, maybe chefs shouldn't announce at all until they are actually ready to release. Keeping the number of threads down.
Either way, both easier editing of "redundant threads" or preventing them all together, would definitely enhance the readability of this forum.
Anyone else? Please voice your thoughts here.
Reflections
Don't feel bad towards me, I'm used to strong arguments. Please feel bad for Garmin, at least we must the least do something for him, which we failed, and now I'm afraid of losing him.
If only:
1. I (or someone else) started this thread sooner, before the original one became so polluted, which sparked the fire0 in the end. I remember this has been done before
2. People are growing up and be more patient. Cuz patience is a virtue (Skat sez, u're da man!)
3. Mods are being more proactive so when Garmin came he didn't have to see all the mess. But hey, they're busy and don't want to be labeled as dictator either. It's us who should behave in the first place
4. Garmin is not so talented that many are so anxious waiting for his new creation. On which, I hardly found it's his fault either...
Oh well, oh well, I can only hope that he will get a grip on himself and didn't turn his back to us. My hope also goes for other chefs too, that they all be given more patience and big heart to face all of us, little kiddies.
In my opinion, too many "kids" and not enough "adults" on these forums! The ROMS are FREE. If you're miserable about life, go see a shrink, cos i can guarantee no-one here is qualified to help you with that. So, if you're HERE, you must be looking to flash your Kaiser or find out how to fix issues with it. For anything else, phone 555-PULL-YOURSELF-TOWARDS-YOURSELF (he says in a cheeky tone)
I agree with Skatdawg. This thread of "chit chat" belongs elsewhere. Not in Kaiser Rom Development. We aren't developing any Roms in this thread, now are we?
hey schizo were you the guy that wanted to unite all noobs....and you were complaining about mistreating noobs...man, if someone did mistreat you,i'm not suprised after seeing posts like this one
and i checked on you....you are a spammer...you have 110 like "the thread is amusing", "i'm learning from all of you, masters", "noobs, let's unite"... and 1000s of useless comments
the whole forum has a point and as i could see you miss it all the way,you just wanted to gain posts and numbers to be.... let's say more respected
man chill out...and be usefull
My only fault that i'm too late, and posted in wrong forum? Just think that the thread sould be near the original thread, and I asked to be deleted anyway.
Someone has requested this thread to be created but I didn't, just because i knew that only seniors can create silly thread without getting bashed. Proven, now that I take the risk, bashed. Hahaha... 'sokay for me, getting used to it though.
Anyway, i dont want to pick a fight, but if u read more carefully I have joined this forum for 15 months now, spend my time only for reading, only post to show some praising and gratifications for some useful items, seldom even raised questions. I just reach 100 posts in recent days. Is that what you called spammer?
Lately i have some ideas for this forum, and they are coming from my own observations . But if many found them silly, 'sokay, at least i only want to speak up. If speaking up considered spamming, no probs, i knew the risk. Called me anyway you like.
My only grief for this forum is only why it always insisted to be All-HTC-Devices forum. I have to live up with it, i think, for the moment.
Please do not reply to this one, let it be buried,or deleted by mod.
-edit- this guy report me as spammer.. so sayonara guys... i'll be banned soon... dang...

Apologies ahead of time for my rant.
Where do you get off saying that people shouldn't have the right to request in the very least, the latest ROM. Understandably though, the greatest ROM will always be based on the user's opinion. And if everyone just followed your advice and cooked one themselves and gave it a rest, where would the current ROM cooks be in this world? You would essentially put us out of a job if you had your way. Heres the way I see it though, since I do understand where your point is coming from. Cooking takes a lot of time, a lot of patience, and a lot of understanding. Now given that not everyone on these threads has enough time on their hands, they need someone to create a ROM for them. Possibly to a level that they couldn't cook themselves at their present state. Just because they don't have all of the time necessary to cook their ROM doesn't mean that they should be punished by suffering with a stock ROM (especially the T-mo one, ). So that being said: I, as a cook, need to know what people want in order for me to make the best ROM that I can make. And to me, the best ROM will always be the one that makes people happy and content.
End of rant.
hehe did i strike a nerve or something? last time i checked i've got a thing called free speech (refer to the 1st amendment of the US Constitution) i'm not saying that everyone should cook their own roms. I am saying that ppl should stop buggin the cooks for the latest rom. I don't have the patience or time to cook my own and I am not going to bug the cooks for a rom... geez
oh yea and i was meaning the latest build of wm 6.5, been seeing allot of requests on the boards for "when is a rom with that build gonna be released" I am addressing those ppl

You do have a right to free speech, however, I haven't been bugged by any such questions. Weird. Thus far I only saw one thread asking that. And i posted a reply. I will be creating FingerMe Prototype Series which will be a base ROM of some of the latest builds. 23031 should be up tonight, 23034 I am still working on.

I agree that people usually treat the cooks as if they're working FOR them. No one gets paid to do stuff on XDA. People are always like....Tell me how to fix that, or, do this for me, or give me a link for this...
People need to realize that we DON'T work here. We just help. We're glad to help, but, we really appreaciate it if you do your own searching and find things yourself. Then, after some decent searching, if you don't find anything, please ask us.
But don't feel threatened, Dr. Gonz, say what you want. Yet, people will still expect XDA members to do everything for them, lol. You can't break that habbit.
I've gotta say, though, the Herald forums are pretty decent. Most people here try to do things for themselves, instead of just asking, and I like that.
I was always one that would just read XDA, I never used to post. Then, after a long time of reading, I gained experience, and started posting. That has worked well for me. It's always best to read first.
But everyone, just remember that no one works here. We're here to help, but we're not obliged to help anyone. If you ask nicely enough, we'll try to help you out. But try to read for things, too.
I agree with the cooks. The only reason why I replied to that thread like I did was cause I didn't like the way he was asking...like he thought that it was his right or something to get the newest build. Theres a big difference in "hey, any chance we can get build XXXXX anytime soon?", and "when is build XXXXX coming out, cause I want it like right now.". Anyways enough soapbox from me, thats just my opinion.

Apparently you get huffy puffy if someone dares to disagree with your omniscience.
If I may be frank, I read about two sentences of your post before concluding that your opinion doesn't matter.

First of all I just want to say that I always respect the rom cooks just like I respect a real cook in a restaurant. If I may quote the movie Waiting, "Don't f**k with people that serve your food."
There will always be dumbass noobs that are here for the instant gratification, that will only change if XDA becomes invite only, which isn't a bad idea. While I agree that nobody "works" here, on the other side of the same coin, nobody is forced to stay here and serve either. If you are fed up with the demands of users, don't complain about it, just don't log on. If you don't like what's on tv, do you complain to the cable company? No, you change the channel. But honestly, it is a community here. You don't have to like your neighbors, but you could at least tolerate them. To clarify, I'm by no means on a high horse here. I've had my moments of weakness, where I lost my patience. I think ace has been the one to say chill out a couple times lol. But seriously, there needs to be some humility around here, especially from people like the OP.

I have to agree with you. I like people requesting things, because some things are really great ideas that I may have never thought of including on my own. I'm not all knowing, I don't know everything everyone wants. So to help serve you better, I need input. So new people reading this thread, please don't be scared to request something of me. I wont always say yes, but it's better than not trying at all.

Some things I see people doing, though (this is on the TP2 forums), is that people say..."Why are my keyboard symbols not working???".
Ok, that's a valid question...but then, when you visit The Wingster for that ROM, you notice, oh hey, there's some bolded red text, maybe that's important?
People overlooking the obvious things like that can REALLY get chefs unhappy. I usually just link them to an obvious page like that, but other chefs will get upset.
Now, requests for features in ROM's, those are a little different. You can ask for requests, just don't make them like...I want (5,000 apps)...or I want (this certain app that maybe 1/20 people use)....But, there are some cool requests that maybe the chef didn't know about, or just forgot. So, try to be reasonable with requests.
And back to the obvious things that people overlook, just try to read a bit, that's all. If you didn't see anything quickly on the first page, then yes, you can go ahead and post, asking your question. Hopefully, the chef, or someone else on the forums will answer you. They will probably also remind you to read better if it was on the first page or something.
Basically, to prevent yourself from getting flammed, you gotta read the first page of the ROM a bit, and then, if your question still isn't answered, read a few of the last posts, and then post your question.
And keep requests reasonable. Try to request things that everyone could benefit from. If it's something that the chef doesn't wanna do, they will probably just ignore it, so don't go posting it again, unless you think it's a brilliant idea, lol.
Remember the golden rule...treat others the way you would like to be treated.

That's exactly my point. The original poster to this thread was saying that people shouldn't ask when a new build for the herald will be released. Unfortunately, you can't find the answer to that anywhere on the forum. So they have to ask in order to get an answer.
So long story short, when you're making requests from a cook, choose your words carefully and be sure and tell them how much you appreciate thier work, even donate if you can. Otherwise, THIS can happen. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448839

This is a flaw of text based communication, you can't really infer tone/intent/feelings unless it was blatant flaming. I agree with you. I don't flame at all, but I have read over a lot of these threads. With that said, I think some of these developers are just overly sensitive about remarks on an internet board. I think you have to assume there will be assholes participating on open internet forums and prepare yourself for such...this is just how it is.

There will always be people who are rude and obnoxious, and that is what banning is for. However, some people don't even realize that they are being rude. That is who this is for.
Its kinda sad how much drama we have now. But like always xda will keep on keepin on
I like the little spats... keeps things interesting... Especially the weekly Axura dramas
I also believe when a trillion billion people say... "SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH" it helps most of the time..
It is a message board, you will have people being dicks...and you will have people that aren't dicks. We have a report button for a reason, however it seems to take a little while for things to happen even when reported. I know I have reported threads and people before and nothing changed. I even asked for a PM if what I was reporting was incorrect. But it isn't just about people flaming. It is people taking words out of context. I like to joke around and if I put a JK after a normally demeaning remark to me it makes it a joke and playful. However at least twice have people gotten on my case as if I was being an asshole because of the comment even though it is clearly stated in the post as being a joke. It is everyone, and it is our job to police.
Adam seemed to do a decent job with Axura, after Master created it and Hansmrtn continued the project. I don't know what he did other than what most other people seem to do with these and piece together components they like and package it into a zip. It does seem like some do more than others but you have to take criticism. Now, badgering and cussing at a person has no place on the forum, and those that do need to leave. That is the Moderators job. Adam left because either he could not take the fact that the Rom he took over had issues he could not control, or because we were not doing our job policing and having Moderators take care of people going out of their way to berate an individual.
And no offense to you but you seem to be trying to become a Mod with all of your threads created. What exactly are your motivations here, is it to question the people on the board and how we act, or are you trying to show that you can do a better job than those already in position?

So I have done that by creating guides to both help struggling users and keep the forums clear of useless questions. I am in no way trying to prove anything, I am simply trying to help other users. I would have to agree with that and yet it still goes on. I don't get the big deal you are making about this post. I was just trying to get my message across being:
"don't be obnoxious on the forums"
Rule of thumb i use, if I do not like a rom, I flash another without commenting. If I do not like an aspect of a rom and I change something and feel it is an improvement I post but say it in respect. Who am I to criticize those who create here? There is plenty to say but discretion is an overlooked virtue

So I have done that by creating guides to both help struggling users and keep the forums clear of useless questions. I am in no way trying to prove anything, I am simply trying to help other users. I posted this specific thread because I was sick of what was going on and the moderators weren't doing enough.

he may not actually create content, but he does put effort into organizing it ( from what i've seen in his wikis and whatnot ). whether or not thats worth donating for isnt anyones decision but those using his guides.
