Global Address Lookup (GAL): Why not working for SMS ? - General Topics

Hello,
on my old Qtek8300 I can write a new SMS and also select the number of an adressee, whom I do not have in my own phonebook, from my company's phonebook via Global Address Lookup (GAL).
The Qtek8300 has Windows Mobile 5 (Smartphone Edition).
However on Windows Mobile 6.1 devices the Global Address Lookup is only accessible when writing a new email, but not when writing a New SMS !!!!
(Tested on a Samsung Omnia i900 with WM6.1 as well as on a TyTN II with WM6.0.)
Has anyone else also experienced this ?
Does anyone know a solution for it ?

WM5 - More than one mobile Number per person?

Hello,
I have the following problem: some of my contacts have more than one mobile phone number. In my palm, I could have 2-3-4 mobile numbers under each name, but transferring over to the Pocket PC I only have the choice of 1 number.
This is not an issue if you are just calling them, but I can't send them a txt on their other numbers unfortunately - only the main mobile number appears.
I've tried adding more Mobile number categories into Outlook, but they don't transfer through to my PocketPC (T-mobile MDA Vario)
Does anyone know a way around this? I need to:
1) Have more than 1 mobile phone number per person
2) Be able to transfer these categories back and forth to Outlook using Activesync.
Thank you,
Loukas
I have more than one mobile number in my contacts, they get stored under things like work number, fax number, pager number (because nobody has any of those anymore!)
I think you can have mobile number 2 etc as well, ive not had a problem with it ever.
What version of outlook do you use? You should try the latest one, its better anyway.
Hey Pyrofer,
The problem is that if you have them installed under Work, or Home etc, they do not appear when you want to send a message to that number.
I have the latest version of Outlook on my machine (Office 2003) and WM5 on my PocketPC
Anyone else found a workaround to this?
Thanks,
Loukas
on my kjam to send a text to another number when writing a text click on the "to:" bit to bring up all the concacts, click on a contact then you can choose what number to send to. if you just start writing there name in the to: bit tho you do only get the choise of there 1 number

Popup Contacts in WM6 Standard like WM6 Professional

So you know when you're entering in contact names in email/sms messages in WM6 Pro and names popup as you're typing? Is there any app to enable that sort of functionality in WM6 Standard?
wm6.1 standard adds that feature... I just upgraded my Blackjack to TX Caeser's WM6.1 Standard beta 3 and that feature is now present.

[solved] Text message account cannot be used to send email messages?

I recently upgraded my HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125) from Windows mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6.1.
Everything is working OK, but I just learned of this... on WM5, I could send an SMS text message to an email address. On Wm6.1, I get the error message "Text Message account cannot be used to send email messages". Is there another way to send SMS messages to an email address? Or, is there a setting somewhere (in the registry) that will allow me to select an email address as a SMS text recipient?
Thanks!
sms is std only a thing you can send to a telefone number
but an network can offer the service to pass on sms's to email address
so i suspect you need to get what ever 3th party program did it on your
wm5 rom and install that and it should work
if the program is not there you cant do anything with the reg as it's not std wm functionality

hmmmm... thanks for the hint. I'm not really sure what program I had under WM5 -- like I said, I have a Cingular 8125 and the WM5 was the "factory" installation.... does that give you any clues?
As far as I know I'm not running any special 3rd-party messaging client -- I assumed that the SMS stuff on my WM5 was the default Windows Mobile Messaging client... the interface on my new Windows Mobile 6.1 looks pretty much the same (except I can't select an email address as a recipient for an SMS message).
thanks

I found my answer... the HTC Diamond ROM that I had downloaded, was missing some registry settings to allow SMS-to-SMTP thru the AT&T phone network.
the answer was already on this site, sorry I didn't find it sooner!

[Q] WM 6.5 SMS doesn't reach me

Hi together.
I've bought a new phone and using WM 6.5.
Now I receive not all SMS. From some special sender (e.g. banking service) the sms doesn't appear.
Change to another phone solves the problem.
Is there any registry hack or whatever which blocks special sms??????
Thanks a lot!
Naish
solved!!!!
