I have a problem with charging my HTC Kaiser.
When connected to the PC it charges the battery without any problems.
But when connected to the 220volt or 12/24volt, the PDA stops charging after 10 minutes.
With the OEM ROM from Kaiser I had no problems, but now I am running Dutty's DualTouchFlo No.2
Anyone any ideas?
should it be at 115 volts?
You really need to tell us what country you live in.

I am living in the Netherlands where there is 220/240 volts
A couple known issues. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355232
My issue originally presented like yours. It was a result of a slightly broken USB port. Look for bowing or anything other than an arrow straight usb port pin block. May be slightly lower on the right side. Also, if you use a tool like sk tools you can see what the power is doing. My charge light would temporarily come on as yours does, but sk tools actualy reported a higher rate of discharge. This issue requires a return, at least for me it did.

There are actually 11 pins. Here is the chart:
If you click the image, you'll see a bigger pic.
Take a look at this thread.

Your problem sounds similar. If your USB port is defective, it would not charge at all, no matter where it is connected.
I have found problems using AC USB chargers. Many will not work with PDA phones.

That's just wrong. There are multiple pins. See the chart guy. If it's broke on the right side, you may only lose the 5V charge & maybe left audio. Remember this is USB & there is more than just a single connection you're dealing with. Also, I know for a fact that this is what caused mine because I enclosed a letter with my device & the Tech at HTC Repair called me & confirmed.
The pinout on the Kaiser:
- only pins A, B, C, D, E are used for the USB plug.
- take a look at the USB male plug. There are only 5 pins.
- only pins A=GND and E=+5V are used for charging. (I did some research into this when I was converting a camera charger to a USB charger, by adding a female USB plug)
These are the same charge connections that are used, whether you plug it into your PC, or into an AC charger. If the Kaiser charges normally when connected to the PC, and does not fully charge when connected to an AC USB charger, then it is the charger that is the problem, not the Kaiser.
I have experienced the same symptoms on some chargers, and not on others, on both the Hermes, and the Kaiser. I have tried different chargers, and verified that certain chargers will charge the Kaiser, and others will not.
So, GSLEON3, your symptom may be accurate for your phone, in that a problem on the right side of the USB plug may have affected pin E, and caused a charge problem. However, that would have stopped charging from any source, and not just from a USB/car charger.
My opinion is based upon my own experience. I have about 10 different AC USB chargers. Cheap ones and proper ones, up to 3A output. None of them would charge the Kaiser properly. The iPod one would. I can switch back and forth, and get the exact same symptoms described in this post.
If you had the same symptoms as in this post (could charge OK from the PC, but not from other sources), and HTC service told you that it was a defective USB plug, then I would say that they are just taking the easy way out, and telling you something without really knowing what the problem was. This is not an uncommon thing for service groups to do. As somebody who comes from a service background (though not on consumer electronics), I have seen this happen too often, hearing an explanation from the service department that I knew was wrong.
My analysis/opinion is easily proven right or wrong. Just try it on another charger that is known to work. An iPod charger, Blackberry charger, etc. If it proves out, then you have an answer. If it does not, then there must be another reason.
It's not very good troubleshooting to exclude options without trying them. Try them all, and see which one fits.
Okay so my usb port has been a bit annoying the past week - where i had to vigorously wiggle the cable to get it to charge or to sync (and even when it did decide to connect to the computer, it would chop out eventually)
But now it's no longer charging or being recognized by my comp
It's strange because the headphone adapter was working fine, and so was the usb host, but it just wont charge anymore - I effectively now have a dead TG01
Currently, i'll get the orange light, telling me it's charging, but when i try to power on, nothing happens...
So i'm thinking a new USB port which is where I need some help: I'm not sure on what part to get
But maybe This is the one? Comparing the images with the ones found on the net of the TG01 (Yep - I still haven't got mine open yet)
But yeah, just a heads up on whether you think it would work would be epic, or whether you think i should just try a different battery/charger/throw it away (Although i'm almost certain it's the port, as it was working intermitently before - it's now gone altogether)

Wall charger, but i tried USB, and still no luck
It just wont charge at all, regardless of the orange light when plugged in now that it's off (though i wouldn't get it when the phone did still have charge left and was therefore still switched on...)
BUMP: Any ideas you clever people? Just some guidance would be nice...
I'm still without my beloved TG01, I'm having to use a **** old Samsung G600
I do have some problems of my own with my USB cable. I believe the problems are due to the cable, though. The wall charger works fine. The USB cable that I use, has to stay somehow "forced"... imagine having the cell laying face up on a desk. The USB cable gets out and is forced by a small pen that stays right near the cellphone, to have a 30% slope upwards, so pushing a bit the cable onto the upper part of the USB port. I do know that you are telling us a different issue, however, maybe this way you could check whether it's just a broken connection and not a completely dead port.
No, this sounds like the exact issue i had...
It was like this with the Charger and USB - where i had to force it to be recognised or charged, and it would still cut out after a while - and wiggling it or knocking it wouldn't actually affect it, it would be of it's own accordance...
But it was strange because the headphone adapter worked fine...
Nothing happens at all now though
Are you try: Settings- Connections- USB to PC- unmark Enable advanced network functionality
I can't turn the phone on because it wont charge, so it's not that
Battery may be defective. Try with any 5V charger, connect directly to battery pin in 10 min
Hi
It vaguely remembers me of something I read on the forum about different micro usb (explaining my different cables do not connect just the same, some easy, some bit forced); I think there also was a drawing. (but I don't have time to search for the exact thread; it was not the "solving usb port mistery one))
Maybe your earphone adaptator don't have exactly the same as your charger? And if it is not battery trouble, find a charger with the "very right" micro usb plug?
Thank you both so much for your response:
I understand why you say it could be the battery problem with the charger - but it doesn't explain the intermittent connection with my computer when using the USB cable. Which is convincing myslef more and more that it's a port problem
One solution for now would be to buy one of these cheap external battery chargers from eBay, but it would mean i still wouldn't be able to use sync using the USB cable and i'm a bit conscious on whether the charger is safe and wont fry my battery
Which is why i'm leaning towards having a stab at reparing it myself
It'd solve the issue directly and it'd be a safer and more secure solution too... (the external charger would have to be ordered in from Hong Kong eBay)
I'm having what seem to be exactly the same problems. I have used 2 x usb based chargers on it - and neither work (whereas they had been working for the past 6 months). Got a mains charger last week - was working for a while - but as of right now, no longer works.
I'm not sure what else to do. I will try later to use the other adapter I have for connection to usb keyboard. The strange thing is - this will probably work but charging won't!
So....is it the micro usb port that's broken? (strange if it is but still works for data)
OR
could it be the battery?
So, I'm traveling (for a long period of time) with my TF. One day, it stopped charging.
I took apart the power brick and put it back together, I even tried to freeze it (on advice from some older "not charging" threads), nothing helps.
When I connect the TF to my laptop via USB - it recognizes the TF. When I connect my iPod to the power brick (with its own cable obviously) - it charges just fine. So what broke?!
I hate this, the local stores here don't sell the power brick separately and I don't even know if that's the source of the problem.
This sucks
Sounds like the power pin in the TF port has bent/broken or just has some detritus/dirt/foreign matter in it and is stopping it from charging properly. Have a look, but you might need to check the port with lots of light and a magnifying glass, so not easy while you're on the move.
If you are in the US Office Depot sells the charger and USB cable for $30.
strange thing is that sometime my transformer doesn't charge.
i have to reboot and it start to charge again.
Same happened here. Asus tech wanted me to wipe the device. After trying other options to get it to charge, I did but it didn't wipe... Go figure... But it booted up normally and now it has been charging.

Apparently charging has some history of issues on the TF101.
I just had mine act up on me, went around the house trying different wall sockets and checked that it worked fine via USB to PC. Ended up taking a can of dust-off to all the pins, then shoving the plug hard into the TF101 socket. Now it works.
Should have mentioned I have a dock as well, which doesn't charge either (so problem is probably with cable/brick)
I'm trying to get new ones (nowhere to be found here, but I'm trying to get one sent to me). I tried looking for dust/dirt and different wall sockets, no luck.
Weird thing - I left it plugged in to the wall overnight and it grew from 5% to 15%, so looks like some electricity is trickling.
I had the same problem with mine after I had it for 5 weeks, I just RMA'd it and everything is fine.
Im having the same exact problem. I left it charging over night by mistake the night before yesterday. I only let it charge 3 hours the most because I know the Transformers have known issues.
I tried to charge it this morning and nothing. I plug it into my PC. The PC recognized the Transformer but no charging. Turned it on and off, nothing.
Just put the power brick in the freezer, waiting to dry up to see if it works .
Although the tf charger and cable has a usb connector it is not usb compliant. the charger brick looks for a gnd signal on pin 7 of the usb connector ( normally a usb 3.0 data line) to determine it should supply 15V to the positive charge pin vs standard 5V. The slow charge you are seeing is from the 5V supply . check to see if pin7 is seeing the gnd signal. Are you using a usb 2.0 extension cable as it doesn't have have pin 7 conductor. be careful connecting your ipod as it could accidentaly see 15V vs the 5V it is designed for.
I've buyed an auto charger capable of 2100 mAh, but with gps and data connection active, however, the battery drains quickly.
Can anyone help?

Ok, i've flashed the 2.3.4. I the next days will try the behaviours.
Any news? have you tried?
The battery charging so slow. It may take more then 4 hour for full charging. Can this problem solved after flash to 2.3.4?
With the new rom 2.3.4 flashed, the battery consume seems to be much linear than before, moreover maybe i've find the solution in the usb cable used in the car: a quick test by using the original usb cable with gps and data connection active has incremented the battery charge by 1% in a 10 km path.
Maybe the original cable has some special terminals configuration?
More extensive tests in next days.
Any improvement of charging time required after flash with 2.3.4 rom?

I know this problem from my HTC Desire, it's was the same and the reason was that a orig. charching cable from HTC had a special pin which says the phone to charge like ac with full power and not only usb power! You can check this in the menĂ¼. There is an entry for charching which says "AC" or "USB" charching. If it shows "USB" it goes very slow! But i don't know that there is a special charching cable for car charching from samsung available too.
Where is the menu entry that shows if is charging USB or AC?
Thanks
Hi,
You will find it there:
Settings -> (telephone) Status -> Battery Status
There it says charging AC or USB
With AC it charges with full power, with USB it charges with 500mAh only -- which is not enough power for GPS and Screen on.
(At least it's like that with HTC devices)
I have a HTC Legend -- my solution to this problem was to short-circuit the Data pins in the Micro-USB-Port of the Car-Charger.
The Original HTC-AC->USB Adapter also has the Data-Pins Short circuited.
If you buy the HTC Car-charger you will geht a special USB-Cable that only works for Charging and not for Data transfer.
So HTC Devices recognize the Original charges by detecting the short-circuited Data pins.
I don't know if it's the same with Samsung devices!
I hope it helped you a bit!
Any link on how to connect the circuited Data pins?
Yes, probably a connection scheme would be useful.
I bought today a car adapter with 1000 mah Power and micro usb port. It charges with "AC" shown in the system
It was very cheap only 10,- EUR from Germany Company "Hama" a great hardware
Yesterday i've tried with another cheap charger, and AC charge is here, by using the same cable of 2100 mAh charger.
So my conclusion is that the trick is in the charger port, not in the cable.
By searching on google, seems that the two central pins need to be short-circuited...
Hello everyone, I hope my English is understandable.
To avoid damaging the cable, I have modded the charger.
Generally the chargers are very simple to dismount: simply unscrew the ring that holds the spring and the fuse and remove a couple of screws.
Usually the data pins are soldered on the circuit board only for mechanical reasons (increase the endurance of the connector), but they are connected to nothing. Short-circuit the data pins with a solder, directly on the circuit board.
Now i see AC charge.
My old Toshiba TG01 required the same trick.

Anyone try this modification? Can it work?

Guys I have a problem.
Recently, the phone is charging only using the original cable supplied.
If i use other cables (I have tried 3 4), which first went well, attacking the phone to computer now tells me that "the device is using more energy than he is given, not charging" or something similar.
The problem is that I was using in the car a retractable cable and the original was a bit of trouble. If you know for what could be the cause?
This because of usage some power eating application. As far as my experience I've used phone for data connection and as Wi-Fi modem. And if I'm charging through plug it's ok, buy in case of USB charging phone note me with a same alarm as you.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Another possible cause of this problem (I had the same issue) is the charging port on the phone itself has been bent so the charging cables dont sit inside there very well. Therefore a cheaper cable (3rd party cables that didnt come with your phone) might not get a very snug connection limiting the amount of power your phone recieves.
If youve dropped your phone while its been charging chances are thats what the issue is. If you look at your charging port on your phone you should be able to see if the metalic charge port has been bent and all it might take to resolve this is carefully bending the port back into shape (careful not to apply too much force as this is very risky, If you are not comfortable with this then please dont attempt as I am not responsible for any damages this is just 1 possible solution)
Also if you're charging by USB from your computer make sure its a USB port from the BACK of your pc as front ports are usually only USB 1.1 which does not provide much power at all. The ports in the back are USB 2.0 or if its a new computer it could even be USB 3.0. both which provide lots of juice to your phone.
