HTC Audio Manager and Back Light - General Topics

Hi. I got a question and I've done searches and can't find the answer too!
Recently, my Amp in my car stopped working so all my speakers do not work. Yes I know it sucks! Anyways, I love my Tilt for being my sound system for my car! These are my 2 questions tho!
1) How can I keep Audio Manager on without the screen going out? I do not want to go into my Power/Backlight settings each time I want to get in and out of the car. The best example for this is Google Maps. It stays on for no matter how long without dimming/standby.
2) Is it possible for Audio Manager to search through ''Mp3 Folders'' instead of All Songs/Artist/Album/Genre etc? Reason is I have a random folder with singles and it won't show whats in that folder. Its all spread around!
K I got to stop typing now... My second time typing all this. Opera mini sucks with the ''Cancel'' right soft key!
Thanks!

Couple ideas/requests

Figured I'd post this where some developers might actually see it. Please let me know if anything already exists to do what I'm looking for.
I Just got a new 8525 (USA carrier: Cingular, slightly modified HTC TyTN) and love it so far. BUT there are a couple things I'd love to change...
The FIRST is disabling the flashing notification LEDs, there's two around the front earpiece, the one on the right flashes green for cellular network connectivity and is on solid when charging (orange then green when charged). On the left is one that flashes blue for BT but green for WiFi.
There's already an effort at MoDaCo BUT it also disables vibrate. Need to keep vibrate and ideally would like to keep the ability for the phone to use the LEDs for notifications (voice mail, call missed, etc). Even in my shirt pocket the flashing is always catching my eye.
Next, I'd really like a way to send all audio to a simple BT earphone (i.e. not an AD2P stereo jobbie) for listening to podcasts, audio books, etc unobtrusively. There's something out there called BTAudio, but it doesn't seem to work on this device. When I run it there's noise audible in the earphone, but audio through media player still comes out of the speaker, not the earphone.
Seems this would be useful for all HTCs (and any others?) with slide out keyboards: a way to disable the popup of the onscreen keyboard. An example: I'll open something that requires text entry, the keyboard pops up, I slide the phone open, the onscreen keyboard goes away, I enter stuff into the field then go on to the next one, and the d_mn onscreen keyboard will often popup again, which is very annoying because if covers much of the screen especially in landscape.
--Maybe a way to link disabling the popup to being in landscape?? Would just as soon keep the on-screen button for the keyboard though, with it's notifications for shift and blue dot...
Well, is there any hope?

Did you read my related article ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1398&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 )?
Bluetooth Audio is reported to work with the Hermes / TyTN. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278778
BTW, do you want me to relocate the thread to the TyTN forum?
I figure it applies to more then just the TyTN, which is why I put it here. These forums are so segregated now...
I think I FOUND a solution for popup onscreen keyboard annoyance:
http://personales.ya.com/beemer/dow..._WM2003_WM5.zip
you don't need any new soft to disable popup keyboard. first of all, it disappears the moment you start typing with slideout one, and stays gone until you manually activate it. another thing, also found here without any effort tells you about a registry tweak to disable it permamently. search.

Yeah, the popup goes away, then pops back up as soon as you move to the next field, possibly covering it, then goes away when you type, then comes up again next field... Especially annoying with the gmail midlet (which has problems of its own relating to selecting fields in the first place).
Would appreciate a link for the registry tweak, haven't seen it in any of the Hermes/TyTN tweaking threads, and there doesn't seem to be a way to set nullKB to be the default.

try this out for the sip problems... personally don't know how it does, as im fine with ignoring the virtual keyboard;]
I'll have to try that, thanks Banannq.
So I came up with a few more things I'd like a way to do or would be eager to help somebody beta test
The first two relate to being able to unlock and show off the phone to friends and co-workers while keeping some things private...
1: Except maybe for replying to an SMS I really would like a way to make it so I have to enter a password to run the messages/email program, or even better to enter certain folders within it. Love the way Hotmail works on the PPC, but without some way to keep my private email private I just can't use it.
2: Ability to set a default filter in contacts, for example I'd use the 'no categories' filter, but others have many other uses for this. Not sure if I'd want it to apply to quick dialing or caller ID in the phone app, but an option for that too would be nice.
This is just a general one I've heard many ask for:
3: The ability to set the Calendar application's default opening view, for me it'd be 'month'.
Any of these things possible? Anybody else have some small changes/options they'd love to see added?

Htc leo music player lockscreen - request

I've been looking around on the forum and googling for a while for an application like this. But would anyone mind creating an application where when we lock the phone we can still change the music and shows what song is playing. I get tired of unlocking my phone just to change my music.
Much gratitude!

Hi mykewillz48,
I agree with shu8i. Use Co0kie's Home Tab v1.8.5 .
It will do what you want perfectly and is probably the best app available.
i'm ok with DINIK, Cookie home tab 1.8.5 is excellent ! and you can listening your music in lockscreen. but you can't change album or (my selection) when you are in lockscreen, play, stop, next ect... it' ok
Yip, Cookie all the way!! Its ace changing music on lock screen
I really don't want to flash my HD2 i'm not very good with things like that. If there isn't just a cab file to do it, I probably would just deal with it. I like how my phone is besides a few things. Maybe in the future I would want to flash it but right now I like mos things about my phone.
CHT is just a cab you install. Preferably make a backup of your phone, just in case because you never know. After installing CHT you just restart the phone and can customize everything. You should install CHTEditor of course!
btw is anybody expierencing the fact that, if you put the music player on the lock screen, sometimes when you unlock the phone it seems like it has played a few tracks on it's own? Sometimes I see that I'm 3 or 4 tracks ahead in the middle of another track without actually doing that. somebody else who had that?
Yeah Cookie Lock is awesome, I missed that option from Android with Sense. You can adjust the size of the player and everything
Is there an application that will allow music player on the lock screen and will also allow for a passcode?

I would kill for a good program that does this... cookies always crashes on me and either unlocks when it shouldn't or wont unlock when it should, or just gives me a sleep of death and becomes unresponsive... it's annoying because it looks awesome and I want to use it...
(tab hangup and answer a few times whilst the phone is locked and you can make a call to the first person on your recent call lists without touching the slider onscreen to unlock... which was happening to me in my pocket, also occasionally I would hit the hangup key to unlock it and the home screen would just appear, not even trying to lock the screen )
S2U2 does it if you have S2P installed but I find S2U2 blows through my battery really fast for some reason... and my system regularly becomes unresponsive.

List of my problems with phone: post if u have some of the same

1. Gps. Connected once but since then just uses cell tower. Inside our outside with the longest i let it try to connect would be 10mins while sitting on porch.( no roof on porch clear sky and all.
2. Face book sync. Set to every hour but if it does it on its own it has error. But i i reselect sync it works.( samsung contacts face book ) not the Marketplace app.
3. Volume is very low. My iphone was louder than this phone.I checked all settings and turned to max. Barley can hear it when it in my hip case.
4. No matter what i set the Email notification ring to it just uses the Call ring. Again this is with the Email app not gmail app. Changed the setting from withing email but wont play what i select.
5. Wont play any of my 1080p MKV.( seen post elsewhere that they played avatar 1080p) Will play a 720p i have but wont play sound just video. Thats with 2 diff samples...
6. I get notifications saying ill have xx number of email. But when i go to email there is nothing new, even if i click the actual notification . Either way i check the email either apps or browser. Very weird. Gmail email.
Phone is stock with no Root installed but do have the Launcher app instead of touchwiz ui.
If u have any of these problems or have a solution please post. :Love the phone hate the problems.. Wish some one else around me had this phone so i could at least tell if mine is just a lemon or its what ill have to deal with.
Having trouble using to open G Cisco Wifi APs at work. Connects fine, sometimes works, majority of the time says connected and shows IP but wont give data to any applications.
Poor battry life
Low ring/notification volume.
Hoping these issues can be resolved :-(
Trying to decide if I'm keeping it, love all other aspects of the phone so far. Havn't attempted MKV playback.
Video recording is great, camera is good but may leave some to be desired :shrugs:
i wouldnt worry much most of those are just software issues
My captivate hasnt had any problems with GPS yet but ive read of some who have. Try this trick to enable Skyhook

(make sure u replace * with t)
Facebook sync just sucks ass. A buddy with an HTC Evo 4G has problems with it and the FB app sucks pretty bad compared to iPhone.
As far as battery drainage mine is doing pretty darn good. Check out Android System app. Its free and under tasks itll tell you what cpu usage is being taken up and u can monitor ur battery life.
Are you running FW 2.1-Update1.
And as far as volume I have no complaints on mine (switched over from 3g iPhone)
As far as the weird email xx counter, i'd remove all your accounts and then set up the default email app as an exchange server for your gmail.
Calibrate Accelerometer
Posted on AndroidForums with no results...
I tried playing Raging Thunder (driving game) and my car pulls badly to the right. Also, tried the "Bubble" leveling app and when it shows my phone to be level I'm clearly holding it at an angle.
My friend has the HTC Incredible and he can do a quick accelerometer calibration by placing his phone on a flat level surface and hitting a calibrate button. Can't find any such tool on the Captivate. Anybody?
I had no problem playing a720p movie on my captivate. Sound and video both work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

I saw a bunch of number sequences you can dial to get into all kinds of crazy menus. If there is no way to do it in the settings you might be able to do it from one of those setting screens.
Not sure where I saw it. It was on XDA around here somewhere I'll see if I can find it for you.

[Q] G2X: First Day Issues

Just got my new G2X this morning. I came from a N1.
I generally like the phone and got it to address a couple of problems I had with the N1 (handset speaker went out and I only could talk via speaker or BT, sticky buttons, and continuous switching between EDGE/3G).
I can overlook the display bleed, the fact that I HATE where the power button is located, trackball, LED notifications (boy, will I miss those) and can (I think) tolerate the lack of early android updates.
There are couple of other things that REALLY bug me, though, and was wondering if anyone else was experiencing it and if there were any solutions. (Yeah, I searched the 'net today but haven't come up with any thing elegant). I don't have these problems on the N1 so could probably tolerate it and return the G2X until more appropriate hardware was out. (Maybe sensation? Although I don't like large screens on my phone)
1. Bluetooth lag. There is a significant (sometimes 1-2 seconds) lag between the time my phone generates sounds and when my BT headset picks them up (Jawbone Icon).
2. BT/Handset simultaneous sounds. I liked the fact that when my BT headset was connected, the handset speaker would mute and all sounds would only come through the headset. This does not happen that way with the G2X - is there a way to change it?
3. So I have two places for storage and by default, most of the apps point to the internal one and can't be changed to point to the external (I was able to point the camera storage to external at least, whew!). Any known workaround?
4. Task killer can't kill certain apps. I get a message saying that 2.2 didn't allow 3rd party apps to cancel processes. Never noticed this on the N1.
5. Car Home - I'm sure a lot of people find this useful, but I don't. Is there any way to supress this from coming up? Sometimes I get it when I connect my BT headset. At other times it doesn't show up until I get a call.
I really want to like this phone, but aside from 4G, it seems like it isn't much more than a minor improvement over my N1...
I can't help you on 1-3, but...
4) Task killers on android do more harm than good.*
5) Root the phone. It's REALLY simple. Download some drivers for your PC, download the program, connect your phone, run it, boom, rooted. Download Titanium Backup, find Car Home, freeze it.
more info on rooting
I myself coming from a N1 I keep looking at the N1 wanting to reach for it and throw my SIM back in and cry holding it. Wish I could put new guts in it and make it more update.
1. the track ball my thumb keeps reaching for and its not there
2. Two storage places I dont like either
3. The bleed isn't bad on mine but Im going to wait a week and take it back and try another g2x out before my buyer's remorse period is up.
4. I'm very surprised at you coming from a N1 that you use task killers very surprised and I'm gonna keep my eye on your.

I have a BlueAnt Q2 and have no issues with Bluetooth. Phone to headset and headset to phone are almost instantaneous.

My G2 used to work that way too. The G2X and my headset work like yours. It drives me crazy but I don't think there's a fix. Oddly, in my car, it play signals through the car's speakers when I wish it wouldn't. So that seems to indicate the connected device has something to do with it.

You could disable it under settings with HTC phones. Settings on the G2X take you to Android settings. I kill the process when I reboot the phone.
Thanks for the info!
lance713: yeah, assuming this phone makes it past the return date, I'm going to have to root it. I was never really was into custom roms, but I think I may start soon.
lance713/wondercoolguy: btw, I don't use task killers for much ... but coverage is spotty here (Hawaii) and I kill things when they get interrupted mid-task because they wait and "search" for awhile, killing my battery. I also kill gallery and messages when they have the occasional hang.
Guess I'll have to get used to no trackball/pad. My only other consideration was the Sensation (I really don't want most of the Sense UI) and that doesn't have one, either.
Rooting and flashing with different rom, will not fixed the screen bleeding problem or charging problem, that causes the phone to reboot. Those are hardware flaws
I can help with one of your issues the LED Notifications. Check out NoLED Settings in the Android Market by a fellow XDA developer member. It works great and highly customizable.
Came from an N1 myself.
Solution: Flash CM7
You'll feel right at home!

try lg2/black notifications from the market place.

Advice Needed: Turn the D850 into a dedicated MP3 Player.

I'm upgrading phones in a few days and would like to turn my D850 into a dedicated MP3/Media player. For the past few years I've used a donated D415 as my go-to device, but my son needed a wifi-connected device to use in class. I've got a few questions as my D415 could have been "done" better and I don't want to repeat mistakes.
When I pick it up I want it to be...just a media player. Like...I don't want any indication that it is or ever was a phone. My car has a tape deck, and no CD player...I've gotta control everything on the phone without the luxury of Bluetooth.
1. I'm running RR nightlies right now. I can stick with that, but does anyone have any super light-weight suggestions for a ROM?
2. Does there exist a launcher that would give the appearance and functionality of a MP3/Media player? Just to avoid the need to launch any apps....turn on the screen and it's ready to rock.
3. Any app suggestions for...
a. hiding notification bar, SIM status, clock, etc.
b. car friendly full screen music app
c. general purpose media center app
3. Any suggestions for maximizing battery life? Background services I can disable? There is no use for any phone functionality.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

As far as ROMs go, if you are going custom, just install one without gapps and sideload a music player you deem worthy. You can just leave the player running and just turn the device on and off without exiting the app (just pause or stop the music accordingly). I would disable pretty much everything that is not required by Android to operate.
As far as hiding status bars, etc, some custom ROMs may have these options baked in but if you get a media app that covers it and leave it running, it should be good. The good news is that if you plan on only using this phone as a music player via the 3.5mm Jack, Bluetooth, camera, and and any other problems that may appear with a custom ROM should be negated.
Get poweramp it costs when the trial is out, but this set up will be worth it.
So get poweramp and go through the tutorial. Now disable the equilizer and all tone settings and direct volume controle. Tone and eq setting can be accessed from the now playing screen but Direct Volume Controle will be found under Setting/ Audio/ Advanced Tweaks.
Now once all of that is disabled, go to the tone settings and turn on MusicFX.
Then, your gonna wanna flash this all in one audio suite. It has an advanced version of viper4android and can make almost any mid to low end speakers or headphones sound great. Credit goes to the makers of the programs in the zip file suite and the the one who compiled them together.
Audio Suite Link - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4FtiSFGCyvHdkEtWFB3WE1Oa0k/view?usp=drivesdk
I dont mess with the beats audio programs but if you cant get viper to work, you may need to go to its settings and run it in compatibility mode.
Sweet! Thanks for that audio suite link, too. I was looking around for a flashable this morning, and this one sounds better than what I would have settled for.
I've actually been using Poweramp for a while and am pretty familiar with it. I find myself leaning toward jetAudio, though. I'll have to put both through their paces.
So far I've disabled most of the phone features and apps. So far battery life has been better than expected. Goes from 5AM to 10PM with around five hours of mp3 audio output through 3.5mm jack, some streaming through Pandora/Slacker on wifi, and a couple hours of YouTube and still 80% left to go.
Thanks for the help, folks.
